Hi all. As always, I don't own these lovely ladies, but do like to have fun writing about them
Maura rinses her hair and prepares to get out of the shower. She had waited for Jane to join her in the shower, but something must have kept her. As she turns off the water, she hears raised voices coming from the first floor.
That is what kept her, a visit from Angela. It doesn't sound like a very pleasant visit. I should hurry down and rescue Jane.
Maura pulls her hair into a loose bun and slips into jeans and Jane's BPD sweatshirt. She walks down the stairs in time to hear Angela.
"... take too long, you could lose the best thing that has ever happened to you! I don't know what you are waiting for!"
Maura rounds the corner in time to watch as Jane points to the back door.
"That's it, Ma. Go home. Now. Out!"
Angela sees Maura. "Good morning, Maura. Let me just tell you that I tried my best and that I love you."
Maura doesn't know the correct response to make. "Thank you?"
Jane gives Maura an exasperated look and Maura raises her palms and gives a slight, apologetic shrug.
"Argghgrrrrrrrr!" Jane gives a half groan, half growl, stamps her foot and points to the door again.
Maura is amazed at Jane's ability of non-verbal communication. Although, she isn't sure if a growl is considered verbal or non-verbal.
"Mmphf!" Angela turns and heads out the door. She gives Jane one last eve-brow-raised look and shuts the door hard.
Jane puts her hands in her hair and literally pulls her hair. "I don't believe her!" Jane paces back and forth.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No!"
Maura looks hurt and Jane feels horrible, even in her frustration. She knows she can talk to Maura about anything, but this is different. The fight with her mother was about Jane's failure to 'pop the question'. Could she explain that to Maura?
Jane continues to pace. "She's interfering!"
"Jane, she always interferes. You know this."
"Yes, but this is different!"
Maura waits patiently. Jane seems too agitated to hug.
"She's nagging me. I thought I was in the clear after the major holidays, you know, Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's Day, but she was disappointed that I didn't make an Easter Egg Hunt with a special egg for you or give you an extra special Easter Basket. She thinks I'm taking too long and I'm going to lose you!" Jane stops her pacing and her rambling.
"Jane! What are you talking about?"
Jane walks over to Maura, takes her left hand and kisses it. "I haven't proposed to you yet. After every major holiday, she looks for a ring on your finger." Jane looks a combination of agitated, nervous and ashamed.
Maura places her hand under Jane's chin and gently lifts Jane's face up. "Jane, are you happy here with me as we are?"
"Of course, Maura!"
"Then, don't let your mother's expectations put any pressures on you and your actions."
"But, Maura, I do want to marry you. I do want to propose to you. I want to do it how I want and when I want."
Maura nods. "I do understand, Jane, but who's to say that I won't be the one to do the proposing?"
Jane does her famous fish impersonation. Her mouth gapes open, shuts, and open again a couple of times before any sound comes out. "I kinda thought I would be the one proposing." She runs her hand through her hair as she contemplates the possibility of Maura proposing to her.
Maura watches Jane's facial features as she processes Maura's statement.
"Jane, you know that it is acceptable for us to propose to each other. Let's enjoy what we have here, now."
"I was planning on enjoying the here and now, but Ma ruined that with butting in. I missed showering with you." Jane puts on a pouty face.
Maura saunters over and wraps her arms around Jane's neck. She nibbles on Jane's neck as she whispers in her ear. "I may not have washed my back, so I should go back into the shower. Care to wash my back?"
Jane finally relaxes. She kisses Maura deeply. "Hmmm, could I check your front also? Just in case you missed any spots?"
Maura smiles as she takes Jane's hand to lead her upstairs when both cell phones buzz with a text message. The ladies look worriedly to one another as they check their phones.
Frankie: May the 4th Be With You!
Jane groans and rolls her eyes. Maura looks confused. "I don't understand the reference, Jane."
"It's a play on words, Maura. You know the movie Star Wars?"
"Yes, I have made it goal to watch culturally significant movies. Star Wars is a set of movies that produced in threes. The first three to come out were actually the middle set..."
Jane interrupts her, "That's good Maur, and you are right. Do you remember what the Jedi's say?"
Maura thinks for a moment, "They say, 'May the Force Be With You. Oh, I get the play on words now. Clever. May 4th - May the 4th Be With You."
Maura laughs at her understanding of the joke and continues to pull Jane upstairs. The Force will be with them on this forth!
I hope you enjoyed this short chapter. I know I have to move them toward a closure, but hate to see this story end.
Thank you if you are still reading! All my love to Belgium!
