Hi everyone. As I always say, I own none of these lovely characters, but I do love to borrow them and play!

Jane is scouring crime scene photos on her desk when she hears the distinctive footsteps of her girlfriend. She looks up to see a bag being offered to her.

"Hey, Maura. What's this?"

"It's your favorite muffin from your favorite bakery." Maura smiles at the surprised look on Jane's face.

"I thought we were trying to eat healthier breakfasts and cut down on this sort of stuff."

"We are Jane, but today is World Kindness Day and I know that you really enjoy your breakfast muffin, so this is my act of kindness to you."

Jane did not believe in Public Displays of Affection at the workplace, but she got out of her chair to hug Maura and give her a chaste kiss on the cheek. "Thank you, Maur. I'm REALLY going to enjoy this!"

Jane puts the bag in her drawer to snack on later. She thinks for a moment and locks the drawer.

"Now, Jane, you should help spread the kindness by doing a random act of kindness for someone else."

"But, Maura, I don't have time to run out and buy anything." Jane whines.

"It's not about buying something. It can be holding a door open for someone, giving a compliment, NOT saying something negative."

Korsak laughs at the last suggestion. "If Jane practices THAT kindness, it'll be a real quiet day in here!" Frankie and Frost laugh. Jane crumples up a paper to throw at Korsak, but stops.

"Does it count if I don't throw this at him?" Jane asks Maura.

Maura raises an eyebrow. "Maybe to some, but I expect more of you, Jane. I know you can DO an act of kindness." Maura levels a look at the surrounding men, "And the same goes for all of you." She turns and walks out. Jane watches in appreciation the sway of Maura's hips as she walks away. Just as she was about to enter the elevator. Maura looks over her shoulder and winks at Jane. Jane realizes there was an extra sway in those hips just for her. Maura appreciates Jane's appreciation and rewards her for it.

Everyone was quiet after Maura walks out, lost in their thoughts of what they could do as an act of kindness. It was hard to try to think of something nice to do!

Jane looks back at the photos on her desk and up to the board. "Korsak, I think we should take a ride back out to the neighborhood and talk to the guy in this house." Jane points to a nondescript gray house next to the crime scene. "Frankie says that the guy works the second shift, so he should be home."

"Sounds good, Jane." Korsak grabs his jacket. "Frost, could you pull the phone records of the deceased?"

"Of course." Frost is focused on his monitor, his fingers busy clicking.

Jane and Korsak drive the 20 minutes it takes to the crime scene neighborhood. They get out of the car and approach the house. "What are you thinking, Jane?"

"I got this gut feeling that this guy isn't being quite honest with us. He seemed a little edgy."

"Well, if he works second, he should be home sleeping right now."

They ring the doorbell, but no one answers. They can hear a dog barking in the back yard. They walk around to investigate.

"Aw, Jane, look at that." Korsak opens the gate they find to enter the backyard. A dog had tangled it's leash around a tree.

"Korsak! You don't know if that dog will bite you!"

"Jane, look at that face! And she is wagging her tail. C'mon girl. Follow me. That's it, let's get you free." Korsak finishes untangling the dog and pats her on the head. They decide to head back to the precinct.

"Wonder where he could have been. Kinda early for him to be out and about already."

"We'll come back and ask him that."

Back at the precinct, Frankie puts down the file he is working on. "Yo, Barry. I'm going down to Ma's cafe to get some coffee, want one?"

"Ya, sure, if you don't mind."

Frankie heads down and finds his mother standing on a chair hanging garland that looks like autumn leaves.

"Ma! What are you doing? Get down from there!"

"Frankie! I'm just trying to make the cafeteria look more seasonal."

"Let me do that."

Frankie gets on the chair and stretches out the garland and puts up a couple of posters for his mother. She pats him on the cheek

"You're a good boy, Frankie." Frankie puffs up and smiles. He gets the coffees and goes back up. He sees Barry bent over a phone with a uniformed officer standing next to him.

"Ok, Now see? If you double press this button here, the 'home' button, see how all these pages open? Now, all you have to do is swipe up, like this with your finger, and you are closing them. If you have them all open like that, it kills your battery."

"Thanks, Barry! I thought I was going to bring it in for a new battery or something!"

Barry grins. "No, problem."

The day progresses with information gathering and finding more clues pointing to the neighbor as a suspect. It is decided that a court order would be needed to look in the house for hopefully the evidence that would tie him in to the murder that happened next door.

Jane gathers her things to leave for the night. She stops and turns to the guys, "Thanks for the hard work you've all done so far on this case." She nods and continues out. The men turn to each other with incredulous looks and grin.

After dinner, the ladies are relaxing on the couch. Maura is reading the newest medical journal and Jane is playing on her laptop. She puts the laptop down and looks over at Maura and pats her lap.

"Put your feet up here."

Maura quirks an eyebrow at Jane.

"Oh, you know I don't have a foot fetish or anything! I know you spend a lot of time on your feet and I only want to give you a foot and calf massage."

"Is this your act of kindness for the day, Jane?"

"So what if it is? I like to do nice things for my girlfriend."

"Oh, I'm not complaining, Jane. Maybe I'm trying to tease though." Maura smiles.

"Well, as a matter of fact, I made sure to say, 'Thank you', to the guys before I left tonight."

"Very good, Jane. I bet it made them feel very good."

Jane chuckles. I'm pretty sure it shocked them. They were kinda speechless."

Maura purrs under Jane's fingers. "I think we should practice acts of kindness more often than we do, so it becomes second nature to us."

"You are very noble, Maura. I can make no promises, but I agree with you and will try my best." Her fingers continue their massage.
