Hi everyone. As I always say, I own none of these lovely characters, but I do love to borrow them and play!
Jane looks down at her torn pants.
"Shit. Maura's gonna kill me."
Frankie looks over. "Ya, but that was an awesome tackle Jane!"
Jane gives a cocky grin. "It was, wasn't it? But this is the second pair of pants I've ruined in the past two months!" Jane lifts up her pant leg to discover a bleeding, scraped knee.
Maura walks around the corner with a file in hand. She stops and places her hands on her hips.
"Jane?" It's amazing how much can be conveyed with one small word. 'Are you OK? What happened? Did you catch the suspect? Really? We're going to talk when we get home.'
Jane heard the last part loud and clear. Her reply was quite eloquent, "Uh."
Maura responded with a raised eyebrow. Frost and Korsak started to shuffle papers on their desks. Frankie was still high on the adrenal rush from the chase and subsequent questioning. He blindly stepped into the line of fire.
"Maura you should've seen it. Janie was awesome. I mean, he probably outweighed her by 75 lbs and she took him down with this beautiful, flying tackle that kind a knocked them into a wall and then boom! The guy didn't know what hit him! She held him down..." Frankie trails off when he feels the icy glare on him.
Maura has always been very concerned and protective of the detectives in homicide, particularly HER detective. Now, the feelings are magnified.
"That big of a man, Frankie?"
Jane is frantically shaking her head no at Frankie, holding her finger in a 'shhhh' gesture.
Frankie looks from Maura, to Jane, back to Maura. "Well, uh. maybe the situation made him look bigger."
"And where were you when this 'awesome' tackling took place?"
"Uh, I was going around the corner to head him off."
"Hmmm."
Maura turns her attention back to Jane and Frankie breathes a sigh of relief.
"Here are the files you requested for the trial detective." Maura's business like manner frightens Jane more than today's suspect did.
"Yes, thank you, doctor. I appreciate you bringing them up to me." Jane thinks for a minute. "Did I mention how your dress brings out the green of your eyes? It's very pretty, Maura." Jane does her best puppy dog, forgive me look and is rewarded with a thawing in Maura's eyes.
"Do you have any clue what time you are leaving tonight, Jane?"
Jane looked at the file open on her desk, then at the clock. "I will be ready to go in about 45 minutes. Is that ok with you?"
Maura nods. "That sounds acceptable. That will still give me time to do some shopping."
Jane is beginning to feel tired and the last thing she wanted to do was to go shopping. "Shopping?"
"Yes. Shopping. Is there a problem with that?"
Jane shake her head, "No, none at all!"
Maura nods and walks away. Jane knows she is still in trouble when there was no extra sway to those hips she loves so well.
Jane finishes her paperwork in record time. She sends Maura a text to let her know that she was done and headed down.
"Good night, guys."
"Good luck, Jane." Frost chuckles.
The drive home is filled with holiday music on the radio.
Once home, Maura gets down to business.
"Jane, did you clean you knee at all today?"
Jane hangs her head. "Noooo."
"Are there any other injuries?"
"Uh, I may have bumped my shoulder when we bounced off the wall. The perp did take the brunt of the impact."
"Mmm. Go change into your sweatpants and meet me in the bathroom."
"I thought we were going shopping."
"Please listen to me and we can do both."
Jane does as she is told and is soon in the bathroom.
Maura is waiting for her. She motions for Jane to sit on the toilet seat. She takes a washcloth to make sure there is no debris left in the knee. She then takes an antiseptic wipe and pats the scraped knee.
Jane jumps. "Hsss. Ouch!"
"Oh, Jane. It does not hurt that much."
"It stings, Maur!"
"Jane, you've been hurt much worse. You've been shot!" Maura blows on the knee. "All better?"
"Thank you, Maur."
"Go sit on the couch and I'll be right there."
Jane is confused, but is willing to go into the living room. She sees the TV trays set up with Caesar Salads on them and their laptops on the coffee table.
Jane turns to look at Maura. "What's up, Maur?"
"Well, Jane. You know that we don't normally go online while we are eating, but today is Cyber Monday and I don't want to miss any deals!"
Jane is so relieved that she laughs. "THIS is the shopping you wanted to do tonight?"
"Why, yes, Jane."
Jane opens up her laptop. "Well then. Let's go shopping!"
