The guards stationed around the walls of the great capital looked up in shock and fear as the mighty fire dragon god, Ignia, blazed a path through the air towards their great city.
"Sound the alarms! Possible threat inbound! Aim all cannons at the flaming comet in the sky ASAP! Approximate location 80 degrees from the center west wall!" A captain screamed out. Soldiers ran to their stations, and holes began to open up in the walls of the city. Magic circles were trained towards Ignia.
"FIRE ALL JUPITER CANNONS!" The captain roared. Each and every cannon began to charge up with so much magical energy, that the color of the air at the front of each barrel became distorted. Various beams of raw, magical energy shot out into the sky, tearing through the clouds and heading directly towards Ignia, the resulting explosion was so powerful, it blew many of the clouds away, and covered ignia in a massive cloud of smoke.
"Direct hit sir! We got it!" A soldier yelled.
"Magic signal not decreasing though sir! Actually it's just, INCREASED HEAVILY!?" A soldier yelled in disbelief while checking a scanner lacrima. The dragon tore away from the cloud of smoke unscathed, looking very angry.
"So they wish for the mighty Ignia to fight with them do they!? Very well, they shall all turn to ashes!" Ignia roared out in fury. Fire began sprouting up from every corner of the city, civilians began to panic, and Ignia smiled at his handiwork.
"My shop just exploded!"
"What's going on!?"
"Mommy I'm scared!"
"Everything is alright dear, no need to be scared."
Ignia roared again, and this time he landed directly in the center of the city. He flapped his wings, and the force blew away countless buildings around him before he got onto all fours and let out a roar so devastating it tore through the city and caused the southern wall to explode in a wave of rubble. Bodies went flying everywhere, like they were nothing but ragdolls. Hundreds of innocent lives, ended in the span of a mere second.
"There's the dragon! Kill it!" Some soldiers yelled. Mages too began to appear, and soon everything from spiked balls of iron to waves of scalding hot water were being shot at Ignia. The god dragon didn't even flinch from a single one of their attacks.
"How amusing. To think humans still believe their weapons will work on a god amongst dragon kind!" Ignia roared. He then stood up on his two legs, reared his head up to the sky, and released his power.
The flames that came afterward, would be remembered in history.
The entire city was engulfed in an instant, The walls all melted away from the sheer heat. The flesh on civilians too close were seared away, and any and all magic fired at Ignia burned up before it could even touch his body. The only ones that managed to make it out were those by the Southern wall, who fled earlier on and were being protected by the generals and mages all working together to form a magical barrier. The heat was still so intense, that even with five of Seven's mightiest mages working together and an army of mages, the barrier was still beginning to crack, and they weren't even close to the dragon at all. The sky was red, the flames were so intense that they were shooting into the clouds themselves and causing the clouds to light aflame.
"Th-this power! It's unreal! I think we underestimated these overgrown lizards Skullion!" Kiria exclaimed in utter awe. To think she could feel the heat even when she was miles away from the city, that the dragon's power had turned the entire sky red, and he didn't even seem winded at all. He had destroyed the largest city in Seven in no time at all.
"We stick to our plan! Although I'll admit, I wasn't expecting this level of power either!" Skullion yelled.
"This heat is so intense, I can feel it even underneath my armour!" Madmole added.
Bahamut looked on in shock, it had all happened so fast. First, they shot the cannons, then Ignia and landed, and then, pure destruction. Destruction in its rawest, purest form. The destruction did not care if you were rich, poor, sick or strong. It was a force of nature at times, and Ignia seemed like just that right now. A force of nature, a force of destruction.
'Is this what Fairy Tail saw and felt, when they were dealing with Acnologia? With me?'
'This...reminds me...of four hundred years ago...I don't like remembering those days. I don't like remembering, the real, ACNOLOGIA!'
'C-could I have stopped him? Why am I not reversing time right now!? If I had just leapt a moment sooner then maybe-"
'This is no time to second guess yourself! This is no time for any other emotion other than RAGE! RAGE against the dragon who did this! RAGE against all dragons who-'
'Is this, what we were like?'
'...'
'...'
'...Kill...Ignia...destroy him...and those people...will be avenged. Even someone as cowardly at yourself, must know this.'
Bahamut's hand shook slightly, but it stopped as soon as he saw the survivors vacating the city, and Ignia looking straight at them.
'DISTRACT HIM NOW BEFORE HE STRIKES THEM AGAIN!'
With that final thought, Bahamut leapt off his perch, and sailed towards the ruined city.
The generals of sin used every ounce of magic they had. From the primordial powers of Fire, plants, Earth, winds and ice, they put everything they could into the barrier.
"This isn't looking good, not good at all." Sloth said.
"I hate how calm you can always be Sloth! Not even my fire compares to the shit this overgrown newt is producing!" Wrath exclaimed.
"Where is Pride, why is he not aiding the evacuation!?" Envy cried out.
"He's with the Great Father, defending what remains of the palace and the lord himself. He's the strongest of us, but his power over the sea could be useful. I wish I had it." Gluttony explained.
"The barrier's about to crack wide open!" Lust yelled, sure enough the barrier was about to fall. Despite most of the civilians and lower tier soldiers having gone almost a kilometer away at this point, if the barrier fell, they would all feel the full force of the dragon's flames. Wrath looked into the flames, and even he, who wielded the power of primordial fire, could barely see through the flames that the dragon wielded. He could though, and he saw the yellow eyes of death gazing back at him. The dragon opened its jaw wide, and he felt magic build up around its white teeth.
"THE FUCKER IS GETTING READY TO FIRE OFF AN ATTACK!" Wrath yelled. The other generals had no time to even react to his statement before a stream of fire the height of a church came barreling towards them. They all braced themselves for the worst.
The worst never came.
Wrath was the first to look.
A man in blue, with a black burning cloak, stood in front of the barrier. He didn't know how, but he had somehow made an invisible barrier around his own arm, and was blocking the attack. The man's feet tore into the ground as the pressure of the attack weared down on him, and soon the roar subsided. When the fire vanished, and Wrath got a better view, the barrier nearly cracked apart, but he focused on the man.
'Acnologia.'
Bahamut stood in front of the flames and checked on his arm, it was smoldering, and it had been burnt quite a bit by that attack. Seemed immunity to magic itself didn't mean too much when dealing with a god amongst dragons. When they grew powerful enough, they could burn magic itself away, so it kind of made sense in his mind. Still, even as his forearm stung horribly, and he discarded his almost non-existent cloak that had burnt up in the flames, he walked forward.
'This will be the first real test we've come across. Are you prepared to face not just a dragon, but a dragon god?'
'No.'
'Good, no one ever is. Stay focused, this is the first fight you can't win by just letting attacks hit you like you're invincible. His attacks will hurt you, and he's one of the few beings capable of possibly even ending your life.'
'....I….I can't run from this.'
'No, you can't. For the first time in your life, you can't simply give up and move on. It's do or die, now choose WISELY.'
Ignia looked down upon the person who had somehow managed to stop his roar. Ignia sniffed the air, and felt the magic around him. His eyes widened in shock, and the dragon roared into the sky before a large cloud of dark smoke and embers overtook his body. The smoke dissipated, and what remained was a muscular, lean man with flowing, red, spiky hair atop his head. He had markings over his body, a black sun on his chest and more markings going down his left arm.
"Well, well, well. Colour me intrigued. I've finally found…wait...my...my god you're...youre actually that old geezer Acnologia aren't you?" Ignia asked with a mighty grin.
"I am Bahamut, Acnologia died a year ago," Bahamut said. Ignia quickly lost his smile and looked disappointed. That disappointment gave way to confusion, and soon his hair shadowed his face.
"So what you're saying is…you're not really him…" Ignia said slowly.
"I am, I am what remains of his-"
"No…NO! I cannot STAND this! No! I won't stand for this, I won't! The perfect opportunity to test my power and my efforts were wasted on nothing more than an IMPOSTER!? I will enjoy tearing you apart, fake dragon king."
"I am not a fake."
"The king I knew of, was ruthless. Only the strong survived under his reign, until he was removed by none other than my own little brother. To think he was defeated by the likes of such lowly creatures disgusts me to no end. I was the one who was meant to kill him, not a group of lower lifeforms! Humans are meant to be pests beneath a Dragons foot, and once my power grows I will make sure that day comes again."
"Why?"
"The Acnologia I heard about, wouldn't have even asked that! The Acnologia I knew about, wouldn't have protected anyone but himself! You. are. not. him! Acnologia was many things, but a deceiver wasn't one of them! What reason is there to deceive anything when you're at the top of the world's pecking order after all?"
"As I told you before Ignia, I'm not a faker, but I'm not completely Acnologia either. I'm what remains of his soul and body, I am what recovered from the fight one year ago."
"...I looked up to you, father was always so caring and gentle, it sickened me to see that kind of power go to waste, but you, a human at that, knew how to act like a true dragon should! You were an inspiration to most of the god Dragons actually, in a way, you were the first god dragon there ever was! To see you reduced to this, facade, is an insult to everything I strove towards! You are NOT Acnologia, and you never will be, you are nothing but an imposter, a false idol. Now, it's time to show you your place in this world." Ignia said with a scowl plastered onto his tattooed face.
Without another moment of hesitation, Ignia flew forward and coated his fist in fire. Ignia hit Bahamut before the reborn black dragon even had time to react, Ignia's fist went into Bahamut's gut causing him to keel over and spit up some blood before Ignia coated his foot in fire and kicked Bahamut in the jaw so hard he went flying into the sky.
Bahamut's eyes widened in disbelief.
He was feeling genuine pain right now.
In two hits, Ignia had done more damage to him then any other being he had encountered thus far. Ignia soared above Bahamut in a stream of fire, and he balled his fists together, before throwing an axe-slam down onto Bahamut's gut, creating an explosion of fire that spread across the sky for miles and caused the very clouds to part away. Bahamut sailed to the ground, and upon impact, his shockwave tore apart the remains of buildings around him. Bahamut heaved as he struggled to breathe. Ignia had knocked the wind right out of him, and he was already feeling woozy.
'Acnlogia's body would be stronger than this dammit!'
'It is, but mental fortitude is just as important as physical might. You are not used to physical pain, but I AM! We will never be at full strength either, until we fully merge together.'
'Not gonna happen!'
'Then die instead. It's your choice.'
'You mean you'd be willing to-'
'My time in this world ended a year ago, and yours ended the moment your mind went into this body. Neither of us can ever go back to who we were before, instead, we can focus on creating something new, something powerful-'
'A legacy.'
'Precisely.'
'Well, fuck it, how do we-'
Bahamut's thoughts were suddenly cut off, as Ignia flew back to the ground and drove his foot into Bahamut's gut. Bahamut spat up more blood as his body was pushed further into the ground. His mind was hazy, and he was starting to form burns around his body. Ignia's eyes were glowing red as he stared at him, and Bahamut stared into the face of death right there.
Something about it all felt oddly familiar to him.
Something in him knew what to do.
Bahamut fought through the pain, and grabbed Ignia's ankle, ignoring the pain that shot through his hand from the sheer amount of heat that he felt from coming into direct contact with the Fire dragon's leg. Ignia seemed unsurprised until Bahamut tightened his grip and Ignia flinched.
'This strength-'
Bahamut roared in anger, and in a burst of strength, he leapt up and tossed Ignia into a pile of rubble, before he crashed through the Northern wall. Ignia was surprised, very surprised.
'Perhaps he may be worthy of some effort after all!' Ignia thought. The Fire dragon god stopped himself from flying away any further by shooting fire from his hands and feet and using them like thrusters. Ignia flew into the air, and roughly one hundred orange magic circles began to pop up in the sky before facing down towards the ground.
"Rain of fire!" Ignia shouted. The magic circles all glowed, and fireballs the size of houses shot out of them and towards Bahamut. Bahamut leapt back right as one hit the ground where he had been standing. The explosion was so intense that it could have wiped an entire town clean off the map. The fireballs landed all over the city, destroying all that was left of it. Bahamut looked towards the palace as a couple of them shot over towards it, and was surprised to see a massive torrent of water weakening the fireballs before they landed, resulting in some of the towers crumbling rather than the entire palace at once.
A fireball landed on top of Bahamut, and the heat was even worse than Ignia's roar from earlier. That's when he realized that Ignia had been holding back before, this was a dragon that toppled entire countries for fun. What was one large city compared to that? It was a miracle his pants hadn't vaporized from the heat.
'I had those enchanted centuries ago. Those pants might be one of the most durable things in the world.'
'Thank god.'
Despite that, the heat still burned. When the fireball dissipated, smoke was billowing off of Bahamut's body. He was sweating, and panting with a little blood dripping from his mouth. Ignia saw this.
"The true Acnologia could've taken more of a beating then that! You really are nothing but an imposter! I haven't even used half my strength yet! Why don't we change that!"
Bahamut's mind flashed, and he thought back to the time when he had fought with the Fire dragon king Igneel. How he lost his arm, in exchange for Igneel's life. He saw Ignia's whole body go up in flames, and everything began melting. The city itself melted underneath the heat, and not even the mysterious water around the palace could protect it from melting away. The forest nearby was lit aflame instantly, and the light from that fire illuminated the sky. Combined with the setting sun, it was truly a sight to behold. He watched as Ignia placed one foot behind himself, and looked forward.
"Wrath of the fire dragon god!" Ignia roared out. Bahamut saw a flash of light, and then he saw Ignia flying at him at speeds so incredible a jet would be jealous. Ignia looked like a comet of pure, raw energy. His right hand was coated in flame, forming a white hot claw as he sped up. Bahamut reacted to this, he reared his fist back and swung it forward to meet Ignia's flaming clawed hand. The resulting shockwave caused whatever remained of the city to be blown away into nothing more than a crater, the clouds blew away, and the ground split apart for miles, creating a cloud of ash, dirt and rock that spread around them for miles. It was like a nuclear bomb had been set off.
Bahamut had no magic protecting his hand, and he gritted his teeth against the intense force Ignia was throwing at him. It was taking everything he had to fight back, his skin was peeling away with every second that passed, but somehow, he started to push the dragon god backwards. Eliciting a shocked expression from him.
'He's...still...physically...more powerful!?' Ignia thought.
So, Ignia let Bahamut win the clash, and side stepped out of the way. Bahamut used his foot to keep himself from flying away, causing the ground beneath him to crumple away even moreso. Bahamut looked to his left, and remembered he had no arm to protect himself there. The last thing he saw was Ignia's flaming hands flying towards his face.
Then nothing but pain erupted around his face, blood flew into the air, and his lip was pulled upwards. He could no longer see out of his left eye, Ignia had torn it to shreds in one solid blow. The force of Ignia's blow sent rubble flying into the sky, and flaming boulders crashed down onto the ground miles away with the force of real meteors. The sky of all of Seven was red that day, and the capital had been erased from existence.
Bahamut fell to his knees, he couldn't think straight, and he felt a hot pressure on his back. He howled in pain as Ignia's foot made an indent on his back.
"I'll admit it, you surprised me for a moment there. However, I am a god amongst dragons, the highest life form in the world, and you, imposter, don't even compare to one at all. You aren't even worth killing." Ignia said before removing his foot from Bahamut's back and kicking him in the ribs. Bahamut fell to the ground, holding his bleeding face as best he could. In a flash of intense fire, Ignia morphed back into a mighty dragon.
"If you ever grow enough backbone, find me in Guiltena, where we'll finally settle things." Ignia growled before taking off into the sky. Bahamut laid on the ground, now down to one eye and one arm, battered, bruised, and ultimately, defeated. He grit his teeth in anger as he watched the wings of Ignia flap away into the sky.
"Get...back here...you...bastard...I...am not some...being to be pushed around like this." Bahamut said slowly, and through agonizing pain. He looked at the fire all around him, the fire that had burned him, and walked up to it.
"Magic should have no effect on me...on a king of dragons...I am...not Acnologia...I am the new king...right?" He asked himself.
It didn't feel that way.
Slowly, he opened his mouth, but no fire entered it. He tried to suck it up, but nothing happened. Bahamut fell to the ground, and fell unconscious.
The generals were helping the civilians flee, they were often tasked with protecting them from sudden heat waves, shockwaves, falling meteors and random bursts of fire as they ran towards the border of Fiore to hopefully seek asylum. To them, it looked like the end of the world. The apocalypse, ragnarok, had finally arrived. It happened so quickly, so suddenly, without warning, bias, agenda or hesitation.
It was how destruction worked, pure and simple.
It was horrible.
They ran, and ran towards the border as fast as they could.
To think the man who had been labelled a prime target, was the whole reason they were still alive.
"Citizens of Seven! Halt!" Gluttony screamed out. Gluttony rose the ground in front of the group so they would slow down faster.
"Gluttony are you out of your mind!? What-" Wrath began yelling before seeing why Gluttony had stopped the group. It was a massive group of mages all clad in White robes, with a young-looking girl at the front staring them down.
"Why have you stopped us!? Don't you know the whole kingdom is burning up!?" Wrath yelled.
"I don't like the looks of the girl in front." Lust added. All the generals were now standing in front of the survivors, protecting them from the mysterious group in front of them.
"I don't like the looks of a single one of them." Sloth said slowly.
"It seems Acnologia engaged the fire dragon god, I do hope the fire god managed to damage him enough to be easily swayed." Touka said cryptically.
"Swayed?" Envy asked.
"You see, all of you shall also fall under my command. For that is my wish for this world, for the world to turn White." Touka said before raising her hand, the generals were confused before they felt their magic be sucked out of their bodies.
"Generals!" A captain yelled. He threw a spear at Touka, but Gajeel intercepted it with an Iron pillar and knocked out the captain in three blows to the head. The generals were trying their best to fight back, but it was too late, she already had them caught in her spell.
"Try to resist it won't matter, not even a god amongst dragons could resist my power, why would any of you be able to?" Touka mocked. The generals stopped struggling, and they looked up.
"We live to see the world turn white." The five said simultaneously. Touka smiled.
"Good, now because I don't exactly desire mass murder for no reason, you, pretty one, take your people to Fiore."
"Of course, m'lady." Lust said before resuming her duties. The army didn't like the fact that they had to follow around a possessed general, but she was still a general, and after seeing how easily the group had handled one of their captains, none of them were in the mood to argue. Once the group left, Touka looked to the remaining four generals of Seven.
"Take me to where your capital used to stand. I wish to get up and close with Acnologia." Touka ordered. They nodded, and soon the group started heading into the burning lands of Seven.
The members of Diabolos looked down from their mountain perch, towards the ruin that was once called the capital of Seven. Now all that was left was a massive, melted crater, still red hot from the battle that had ensued earlier. Their eyes landed on the one remaining, intact body lying on the ground.
"He lost too easily." Madmole said.
"Agreed, he did better than any human could ever dream of when it comes to defeating a god dragon alone, but I expected more." Skullion added.
"It doesn't matter! He's still got lots and lots of power! Let's wrap him up. Nice and good, and take him to master Reizen like he was takeout food!" Nebaru exclaimed happily. Skullion smiled and was about to transport them all before feeling a large amount of magic power to the west.
"There's a group of mages, strong ones, heading to the city." Skullion said.
"What!? Why would anyone besides us even DREAM of coming towards this wreck!?" Kiria argued, although she knew it was true for she felt it as well.
"I don't know, so let's hurry before they get to Acnologia!" Skullion said, he turned them all into ash and they went sailing towards the city.
Touka sensed some magic approaching the city, and decided to act fast before something happened to her ultimate prize.
"Laxus, Racer, Jellal, run up ahead. Someone's approaching the city, don't let them get close to Acnologia!" Touka ordered. The three raced off to the city, and Touka forced the others to pick up the pace. Panther Lily grabbed Gajeel and flew him to the city, Sting had Lector fly him to the city as well. While Erik, Ultear and Meredy lead the charge for the rest of Rebellious.
"Acnologia belongs to me, and me alone. With his power at my side, I will become unstoppable." Touka muttered.
Team Natsu plus Rogue watched as flying ships with the symbol of Alvarez sailed towards their location. Seeing that symbol reminded them all of the war between Alvarez and Fiore just a year ago, and it reminded them all of how lucky they were to have somehow come out on top of that war at all. Alvarez had every advantage, strategy, more powerful wizards then they had ever fought before amongst the ranks of the Spriggan twelve, an army numbering in the millions, everything, and the empire still lost. Sometimes it felt too good to be true.
The ship landed, revealing Ajeel standing there in a black robe lined with fur, holding a large scepter in his right hand. Behind him were Invel, Neinhart, Jacob, and Dimaria. Brandish was still a ways off.
"Ah! Fairy Tail! Never thought I'd ever see the likes of you again! It's been far too long!" Ajeel said, none of them could really tell if he is being sincere. Invel rudely stepped ahead of him.
"Any update on the situation?" Invel asked.
"The White Mage probably made it into Seven by now, and I swore I felt some intense magic coming from there earlier. We felt an earthquake or two as well." Rogue explained.
"That matches up with the reported sightings of a flaming sky near the capital of Seven we saw in the sky earlier. We must make haste, with your permission emperor Ajeel, I would like to take charge of the leading force." Invel asked.
"Sure, sure, just don't fuck it up, I know war's your thing and all." Ajeel said. All of a sudden they all felt a hot wind, and looked up to see a flaming comet soar past them. Natsu's eyes went wide.
"That, that was a dragon!" He cried out.
"Was it one of the God dragons!?" Erza asked.
"Probably Ignia! Dammit, we waited too long! Who knows how many people those two killed during their fight!" Gray yelled out.
"Then board our ship, we've made it so that dragon slayers don't get motion sick on some of our ships."
"Why? I thought God Serena was dead." Lucy asked.
"That is our business , not yours." Invel said with some spite.
"Hey! Watch what you say pal!" Natsu yelled.
"Hey morons! Stop fighting each other already and hop on! Do you wanna get to Seven already or not!?" Dimaria yelled out. Natsu glared at Invel for another moment, before looking back at Lucy who gave him a reassuring nod.
"Fine."
Deep in the tombs of the one great palace, the Great father waited patiently. Having used the power of the ask to shield himself and the etherious from all harm that resulted above. The Etherious groaned and growled as they waited to bash in anything their master wished.
"Sir (cough!), the fire dragon has fled! But, the (Hack!) City has been vaporized! There's nothing left of it! I barely made it out alive!" Pride yelled from the stairway. The Great Father froze up, and his head twisted towards Pride unnaturally.
"Truly? Your primordial waves could not even protect the castle?"
"As formidable as my magic is, even I lose no pride in saying that these flames were of another scale. One similar to the sun itself." Pride explained.
"What of the other?"
"Defeated, and still lying in the city."
"Perfect. He is weakened then! Now is the time to correct the error." The Great Father yelled. His voice was changing unnaturally as he spoke, and it frightened Pride.
"Sir? Are You alright?" Pride asked. The Great Father's head literally snapped backwards one hundred eighty degrees, and his torso hadn't budged an inch.
"Never better, my son."
