Tutoring Chapter 27

4 Hours after the crash

Paul, Sally, Jason, Nico, Hades, Persephone, and even Poseidon sat in the hospital waiting room, each of them anxiously waiting to hear some kind of news on their two family members who were still currently in emergency surgery.

"The least they could do is come and tell us how the surgeries are going. We've been here for hours and they've told us nothing, all we know is that they were hit by a drunk driver who ran a red light. I want to know what's happening behind those damn doors" Nico said shooting up from his chair and anxiously pacing around the small waiting room.

Sally stood up from her chair pulling the near hysterical Nico into her arms "I know sweetie, but we have to be patient so that the doctors have time to heal Percy and Bianca. Everything is going to be alright Nico I promise" Sally said comfortingly. Nico buried his head into his aunt's shoulder letting the tears finally fall.

"I'm going to get some coffee, does anyone want any?" Paul said standing up.

Jason shot up from his chair "I'll go with you".

After everyone told them what they wanted Paul and Jason took off towards the cafeteria, both of them finally relieved to have something to do other than wait in the hospital waiting room.

Right when Jason and Paul got back from getting the coffees, a doctor came out of the double doors wearing dark blue scrubs and a hair net.

"Family of Percy Jackson" he said looking at the group.

Sally and Poseidon immediately stood up "I'm his mother, please tell me he's alright" Sally said.

"Percy's fine he made it through surgery wonderfully, he's being moved to a room now, you'll be able to see him shortly. Percy had a serious head wound but as far as we can tell it hasn't caused any serious damage, other than a concussion and some stitches. He'll have some scratches and bruising from the broken glass and the pressure of the seat belt. Percy was admitted with a large piece of glass lodged in his stomach. We were able to move it successfully but it damaged some organs, which is why he had to go into surgery. We were able to repair all of the damage, he'll need to be on bed rest for a couple of weeks, but other than that he should be perfectly fine" the doctor said smiling.

Sally and Poseidon both smiled relieved "Thank you doctor" Poseidon said shaking his hand.

With tears running down her face Sally spoke "When can we see him?"

"I'll have a nurse come and get you when he's settled in his room" the doctor said getting ready to leave but Hades stopped.

"I'm sorry but do you know anything about my daughter Bianca, she was in the same accident as Percy" Hades asked.

"I'm sorry I don't, but I can have a nurse come out and talk to you, to give you an update" the doctor said.

Hades smile sadly "Thank you that would be much appreciated".

The doctor smiled sadly at them as he entered the double doors again. Sally stood in the hallway hugging Paul as tears of relief ran down her face. Poseidon sat next to his brothers Hades setting his hand on his shoulder.

"She's going to be fine brother" Poseidon said comfortingly.

Hades sighed closing his eyes "How do you know that?"

"I don't. But what I do know is that Bianca is an Olympiad, and if we Olympiad's are anything it is extremely stubborn. She'll fight through this, it's not in her blood to give up" Poseidon said.

Hades smiled sadly at his brother as Persephone intertwined their hands "He's right Hades; she won't give up that easily".

"I hope so" Hades said smiling at his wife.

"Family of Percy Jackson" a nurse said from the doorway.

"Yes that's us. I'm his mother, can we see him" Sally said walking towards the nurse.

"I can take you to him now, but only two people at a time for now" the nurse said.

Poseidon looked at Paul not sure what to do or say but Paul beat him to it "Go ahead, you should see him first" Paul said smiling at him.

Poseidon smiled "Thank you" he said before following Sally and the nurse down the hallway.

The minute Sally's eyes set upon her son tears of relief and sadness sprang to her eyes. Percy's head was wrapped in a thick layer of bandages; he had a black eye, and countless scratches all over his face and arms.

"Oh my poor baby" Sally said as she moved towards Percy moving the hair away from his eyes and kissing his forehead. Poseidon walked towards the other side of the bed setting his hand on his son's shoulder.

"The thing that matters is that he's alive and that he's going to be alright" Poseidon said.

Sally didn't say anything as she set her hand on top of Percy's staring at her only son, hoping to see his green eyes soon.

Line Break

Back in the waiting room Jason and Paul sat together along with Hades and Persephone waiting for any news on Bianca.

"Family of Bianca Di'Angelo" a doctor said walking towards them.

"I'm her father" Hades said standing up along with Nico to meet the doctor.

"Bianca made it through surgery just fine. She had a pretty serious head wound but as of now we can't tell how much damage it caused. She had some internal bleeding from pieces of glass going into her body but we were able to repair it" the doctor said taking a break.

"Oh thank god, when can we see her" Hades said relieved.

"There was one other thing we noticed. We aren't sure how but a piece of glass managed to insert itself near her spinal cord. When she was being moved from the car it must have moved because when she came here it was cutting into her spinal cord. We tried our best to repair the damage and we won't know for certain until she wakes up but we think that the glass may have caused paralysis" the doctor said.

"Paralysis, you think she won't be able to walk again" Hades said shocked.

"That's what we're thinking as of now; we won't know the full extent until she wakes up. There could be a slight chance that it's temporary, but it's a very small chance" the doctor said.

"When can I see my sister?" Nico said not caring about anything the doctor was saying, only caring about seeing his sister, to know for certain that she was alive.

"I can take you to see her now" the doctor said. Nico didn't say anything as he followed after the doctor not even bothering to see if his father was following behind him.

Line Break

Annabeth and Thalia had just finished touring UCLA campus. Annabeth, Athena, and Thalia had gotten on a plane from Oregon early that morning making it to Los Angeles by lunch time. Annabeth hadn't hear from Percy all day, but she hadn't called or texted him either. She was so absorbed in the tour of the school she had been leading towards since the beginning. The history behind the college was amazing, and the architecture was constantly drawing Annabeth's eye to it. And the architecture program was absolutely amazing, even though she'd only spent a day on UCLA campus she knew this is where she belonged at.

Annabeth and Thalia had just sat down at one of the many café's on the campus when her Athena called.

"Hi mom" Annabeth answered.

"Annabeth where are you?" Athena said sounding slightly frazzled.

Annabeth frowned "Thalia and I just sat down at a café on campus, why?"

"What's the name? I'm coming to meet you" Athena said.

"Umm it's called Kerckhoff Coffee House. Mom what's going on?" Annabeth asked again.

"I'll tell you when I get there it shouldn't take me to long. Just stay there" Athena said hanging up the phone before Annabeth could say something else.

Annbeth set her phone on the table frowning "That was weird" she muttered.

"What's going on?" Thalia asked as she texted Luke.

"My mom called wanting to know where we were, she's on her way here now. She sounded really stressed out and panicked" Annabeth said.

"It's probably nothing, your mom freaks out if a paper clip isn't in the right spot" Thalia said shaking her head "Luke says 'Hi' by the way".

"Tell him I say 'Hi' as well. He still upset you went to a party last night?" Annabeth asked.

Thalia rolled her eyes "No after you told him I was a good girl and didn't do anything stupid, he was fine".

Annabeth laughed but before she could say anything her mom rushed through the café door searching around frantically for the two girls.

"Annabeth there are you. We need to go back to the hotel right now" Athena said rushing over to them.

Annabeth frowned "What, why? I'm taking a more advanced tour of the architecture building in thirty minutes".

"I know but we'll have to reschedule with them" Athena sighed closing her eyes "I didn't want to do this to you two in public but I think it's the only way I'll get you two to listen to me. There's been an accident. Percy and his cousin Bianca were in a car crash last night" Athena said sympathetically.

Both Annabeth and Thalia's eyes widened "Are they alright?" Thalia said able to find her voice before Annabeth did.

"They're both out of surgery, Percy is awake and okay, but Bianca is still unconscious, the doctors think she may be paralyzed but aren't sure how much of her body is affected" Athena said.

Annabeth closed her eyes trying to absorb everything that her mother told her. "We need to go back" Annabeth said opening her eyes to look up at her mother.

Athena nodded her head as she typed furiously on her phone. "I'm having someone pick up our luggage from the hotel, they're going to meet us at the airport were getting on the next flight to JFK now".

Annabeth didn't say anything as she and Thalia followed her mother to her car, she didn't say anything as they drove to the airport and Thalia talked to Jason on the phone. Who told them Percy had picked Bianca up from a party and was taking her home when a drunk driver ran a red light and hit their car. Jason had yet to see Percy but Poseidon told him that he was awake and alert but the doctors needed to run some test's before they allowed anymore visitors to see him. And that Bianca was still unconscious, with Nico refusing to leave her side.

It wasn't until they were on the plane and heading back to New York that Annabeth spoke "Thank you for taking me back mom".

Athena smiled at her daughter "I know I can be a hard person to get along with and that you're nervous of me meeting Percy but I can tell that you care about him. I know who his father is, neither Poseidon nor I get along very well but we know that we can't step between our children's happiness" Athena said. "I don't know Percy very well but he seems like a good young man, he is going to one of the top colleges after one. The same one I assume you are going to be attending as well" Athena said with a slight smirk.

Annabeth blushed "Yes both of us are going to attend UCLA, but I didn't choose it because of Percy, I choose it because I think it's the best fit for me. I care a lot about Percy but I'm not about to let a guy dictate what I do with my life. You taught me that mom".

Athena smiled wrapping her shoulder around her daughters shoulder "I am so proud of you Annabeth".

Annabeth smiled resting her head on her mother's shoulder after a couple moments she spoke again "I'm scared mom, I know everyone's telling us that Percy's alright but I don't think I can believe it until I actually see him for myself".

"I know and no one can blame you for that sweetie. But in a couple of hours you'll see for yourself that he's perfectly fine" Athena said comfortingly.

Annabeth closed her eyes relishing in the comfort that her mother provided her as she flew across country to see her injured boyfriend.
