So I'm back for another update! And before we get started, I just need to apologize about this story because lately there's been a lot of OOCness with the characters and I realize that there's been a serious lack of humor/Percabeth. I promise you that in this chapter I'm really going to try to bring some more humor and finally (and hopefully) please those are still feeling a little disappointed with the whole lack of Percabeth thing.
I know that this story is a little bit different than the others and I'm sorry if that upsets you. Hopefully this chapter will start making people feel a little bit better.
On the positive side of the spectrum, we broke 550 reviews! Thank you so much! That is so fantastic! Do you think in the next couple of chapters could we make it to 600? That would seriously make my day!
Anyway, I'll shut up now.
Chapter 27
Junior year seemed to pass in the blink of an eye for Percy and his friends. He was glad to say that after many bumpy roads, he and Annabeth's relationship were finally starting to come round. Percy was still dating Rachel and Annabeth was still dating Mark, but they didn't hate each other. In fact, they were starting to talk to each other and get along with each other the same way that they acted BEFORE all this drama. Percy also seemed to be getting along with Thalia and Luke better as well. Although, after a couple of months, Annabeth and Luke still weren't talking, despite Luke constantly trying to apologize. Luke pretended to think that Annabeth was going to forgive him at one point, but Luke was starting to get worried. It was weird for Annabeth to be mad at Luke, considering everything that they've gone through together.
"She hates me," Luke once said to Percy as they were walking to the cafeteria.
"No she doesn't. She's just...," Percy trailed off, unable to find an excuse for Percy.
"She wants me dead," Luke muttered again.
"Oh come on! Annabeth loves you to death! She would never want that," Percy argued, although to be completely honest, after all these awful arguements between the two and the weeks of silence, Percy wasn't so sure but come on. Annabeth forgave Percy for what
But did Annabeth really hate him permanently?
On the last day of junior year, Percy was in his last class of the year: Marine Biology, which was an elective that he was taking with his friends and it was his favorite class since he didn't have to worry about any girl drama. He sat next to Connor, and in front of him was Katie and Travis, the two of them holding hands. Behind him was Thalia and Nico. The marine biology teacher was handing out a t-shirt that all the juniors were getting. It was gray with big purple letters that said, 'SENIORS: 2014.' Percy grinned, looking over at Connor, who gave Percy his same signature smirk.
Connor tucked the shirt into his pocket. "What are we going to do after school?"
"How about we raid a couple of junior highs?" Travis said, grinning. "I think those eighth graders need some initiation for high school. We should give them a little glimpse of what seniors like!"
"You mean stupid?" Katie offered.
Travis rolled his eyes. "Whatever Katie Kat."
Katie let go of Travis' hand glared at him. "I thought I told you not to call me that," Katie scowled, narrowing her eyes.
Travis smirked. "You told me not to call you Kitty Kat. There's a difference," he challenged and Travis grabbed a hold of his girlfriend's hand.
"Seriously, though," Thalia said, "What are we going to do? I don't want to just hang out at somebody's house. Let's do something fun!"
"I think raiding the junior high sounds like a pretty good idea," Connor said, grinning. "Travis and I could run down the hallway and cause a huge ruckus. It would totally piss off the teachers, but it would be a great way for those eighth graders to end the year."
Katie rolled her eyes. "You two are so immature."
"Katie, Katie, we aren't being immature. We're being very generous. We're giving those eighth graders a very memorable end to their junior high experience," Travis reasoned.
Katie rolled her eyes, but decided that it would be altogether pointless to argue with the two Stolls. Once they thought up an idea like this one, there was no way that they weren't going to do it. "Whatever," she muttered. "You two have fun with that."
"Hey! How come only you and Travis get to do it?" Nico protested.
Travis raised his eyebrows. "Nico? Do you really want to do what Connor and I are planning on doing? Are you really willing to risk that kind of embarrassment, which could potentially ruin your social life?"
Nico sighed, "I guess not."
"Oh come on, Nico," Thalia said, smirking, "Your social life can't be destroyed. You don't even have one to start off with."
Nico glowered at Thalia. "Thanks, Thals. I guess now I'm just going to have to leak that video of you and Luke making out in boy's locker room during one of Percy's swim meets on YouTube. I wonder what your dad would think after he gets emailed a link to underage porn. I can only imagine the punishments."
Thalia glared at Nico. "You wouldn't."
Nico smirked. "I would."
For the rest of the class period, Percy and his friends spent the time making fun of each other. As Percy listened to Connor and Travis debate about who would in a fight (between Silena or Thalia, and surprisingly Silena seemed to winning), Percy began to reminisce in his junior year. Sure, it had been a struggle lately with this whole Annabeth thing and besides that the fact that Percy and Annabeth were dating someone other than each other, Percy didn't find anything wrong with junior year. It was his first year at New York and he wouldn't have had it go any other way.
He had great friends: friends who made him laugh like Travis and Connor; friends who were always there for him like Grover and Nico; friends who would defend him when Percy couldn't defend himself...like Luke and Thalia. Although Percy had had his rough patches with those two, he knew that they were just protective and were just defending the person that they thought needed help. And finally, there was Annabeth. He had found someone who he could count on and could always turn to. Sure. There was still that awkward, 'I caught you kissing someone else' thing but hey, every relationship has problems.
This was just an obstacle that Percy managed to overcome. Sure, he didn't win Annabeth back that he was originally intending to do, but hey, it's just the end of junior year. And a lot can happen in just a couple of months. You never know. Annabeth and Percy might end up together, and Thalia might end up with Nico.
Percy shuddered at the thought of that. Seriously, Thalia and Nico. No. Just no. (A/N Sorry guys. Not a Thalico shipper).
And then, as Travis and Connor decided that Silena and Thalia were both definitely two girls that should not be messed up, they realized that there was just a minute left. A minute left of junior year. They spent the time counting down. "Ten...nine...eight...," Percy muttered under his breath as he anxiously watched the clock, his lips curving into a smile. "Three...two..."
"ONE!" The entire class shouted. The now graduated juniors jumped up, grabbing their backpacks and sprinted out of the Goode High School doors, briskly meeting up with their friends and running toward their cars. Percy and his friends were clumped together as they made their way to Percy and Luke's car. Rachel was already waiting there, along with Annabeth and Mark.
Did Percy forget to mention that Annabeth, Rachel and Mark were finally starting to get along? It was like magic. It was like this fight with Luke worked to Percy's advantage. Annabeth stopped hating everyone so much and the animosity between Rachel and Annabeth, although there was still tension, was finally starting to thaw.
"Come on!" Percy shouted as his friends leaped into their cars. Nico, Grover and Rachel jumped into Percy's truck and Percy skilfully pulled out of the Goode High School parking lot. He sent one last look at the high school that he knew he belonged in before he pulled out and didn't look back, ready to start the summer.
"GOODBYE JUNIOR HIGH AND WELCOME TO HIGH SCHOOL BITCHES!" Percy heard Travis and Connor shout as they sprinted down the junior high school. Percy and his friends were clumped in the parking by their cars, waiting by the back doors. Percy erupted in laughter, still shocked that Travis and Connor were actually doing this.
When the Stolls ran outside, they were laughing, their faces red and breathless. They ran over to Katie who seemed to have troubles breathing she was laughing so hard. Katie steadied Travis, who had been running so fast he could hardly stop. "I can't believe you would do something so immature!" Katie said, grinning.
"Are you kidding me?" Luke said, laughing, "This is Travis and Connor fricking Stoll we're talking about. They've been this way since they were in second grade."
"Stupid and obnoxious," Clarisse pointed out.
"Whatever, Meat Head," Travis retorted, wrapping his arm around Katie.
"Okay, wrecking havoc in junior high? Check!" Annabeth said, grinning. Mark had his arm around her waist, but Percy was trying to ignore that as he listened to her. "Where to next?"
"I was thinking the mall," Silena said. She and Beckendorf had been waiting for the graduated juniors outside of Goode High School. They're school had finished a few days before Goode, so it wasn't like they were missing anything.
Beckendorf groaned, "Silena, I love you sweetie, but shopping?! We were shopping all day yesterday AND all day today! How do you still have any money?"
"I've been saving up for the last five months! Trust me, I have plently of money to spend! And yes, I did go shopping with you but I didn't get to go shopping with Thalia or Annabeth or Katie or Juniper or even Clarisse."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Clarisse said, "Look, Silena, I love you girl but no. I don't shop."
"Why don't we split up?" Annabeth offered. "The girls could go shopping. Clarisse and the guys could go...do guy stuff and we could meet back at some place for dinner?"
The friends all seemed to look around at each other and they didn't see anything wrong with that. "Sounds like a plan," Percy agreed.
"How about we meet up at La Ritz for dinner?" Silena said.
Annabeth and Travis both shuddered and thought about the last time they were at La Ritz. Apparently, Luke and Thalia had thought of the same thing because they both chuckled. "God, not that place again," Travis muttered. He gave Annabeth a look and then quickly looked back at the ground.
"It's settled then," Thalia said. "We'll meet you guys there?"
"Sounds good," Luke said.
The guys and the girls said their goodbyes and parted separate ways.
(PAGE BREAK)
"Silena, goodness gracious!" Annabeth shouted as she, Katie, Thalia and Rachel sprinted after their friend. "Would you slow down?!" Silena had just heard about a huge sale at her favorite makeup store MAC and she was terrified that they would run out of Silena's favorite foundation, so she, of course, had to sprint to the nearest MAC, leaving Annabeth and the others scrambling after her.
"You know, for a girl that barely works out, she seems to be awfully fit," Thalia muttered.
"Tell me about," Katie added.
"I'm telling you, shopping everyday really keeps a person in shop," Rachel pointed out matter-a-factly. Thalia and Katie rolled their eyes. Unlike Annabeth, they still hadn't gotten over what Rachel had done to their best friend.
Annabeth was still having a pretty hard adjusting to all of these crazy social changes with Percy and Mark. Her relationship with Mark wasn't as strong as her former relationship with Percy, but Annabeth knew that she had to move on, although it was difficult considering that she had Percy in tons of her classes and they were slowly starting to become friends again.
Annabeth wasn't complaining, though. She had missed Percy more than she would like to admit to anybody, especially her friends. Annabeth wished that she and Percy had stayed as close friends so that she could at least have someone to talk to about Luke. She didn't want to talk to Thalia, since she would just defend Luke and leave Annabeth feeling worse. Katie would go on and on about how this was all Rachel's fault and seriously, could you imagine Annabeth trying to have a heart to heart chat about how she feels with Clarisse?
Percy was the best option when it comes to talking about feelings. He always seemed to say the right things, always knew what work the best. And right now, after everything she's been feeling, it wouldn't hurt to get some advice like that.
She was gladly distracted from her thoughts as they walked into MAC, trying to catch their breath. Annabeth set down her bags, and she had plenty. It was six o'clock and they had spent the last three and a half hours at the mall. She had bought just about enough clothes to last her the entire senior year. She got dresses, pants, blouses, necklaces, shoes, blazers...literally everything. They hit up stores like American Eagle, Forever 21, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Hollister, Nordstroms and a lot of other stores.
"These bags are like weights!" Thalia groaned. She set down a black plastic bag that had two boxes of shoes.
"Of course that one is heavy!" Katie said, laughing. "You bought the two biggest pairs of boots in that store."
"They were just so cute," Thalia defended. "You know black boots are my weakness Gardner!"
"I thought that was Luke," Rachel said. Annabeth, Thalia and Katie could tell that she was trying to be funny, but all she received was nothing but a fake smirk from Thalia.
"Right...," Thalia said, before looking away and starting to examine some of the makeup from MAC.
"I thought it was funny," Annabeth said to Rachel. Rachel just glowered.
Annabeth sighed and walked over to Thalia, who was examining some black eyeliner. "Thalia, you should really be nicer to Rachel. She's trying to get along with us."
Thalia rolled her eyes. "If she's trying to be friendly, she can leave my boyfriend out of it."
"What's wrong with her talking about Luke?!"
"What's wrong is the fact that she is talking to and about Luke when your not!" Thalia shouted.
Annabeth groaned. "Your not upset because of Rachel, are you?"
Thalia sighed. "I'm sorry, Annabeth. I shouldn't have said that."
"It's fine, Thalia," Annabeth muttered. "I get that your mad at me because of what's going on between Luke and I."
Thalia sighed. Shet set down the eyeliner she was looking at and put it back on the display. "I still don't like how you just suddenly forgiven Rachel for the third time. It's understandable for get a second chance, but third. That's just plain stupid."
"I didn't forgive her Thalia. I just stopped caring about her."
"So you decided to 'stop caring' about Rachel's mistake when you don't stop caring about Luke's?"
"Thalia, can we not talk about this?"
"Annabeth, we have to talk about this!" Thalia argued. She sighed. "Look, I get why you were angry at Luke, but honestly, staying this mad at him is just...stupid. He feels awful about what happened and he wishes that you could forgive him. He's tried apologizing to you, but you can be so stubborn sometimes."
"Look, Thalia-."
"Thalia, why don't you just say out of it?" Rachel said, appearing out of nowhere and standing beside.
Thalia looked up and gave Rachel her most intimidating death glare. "Why don't you just say out of this Dare?"
"What's going on between Annabeth and Luke isn't any of your business," Rachel said. Annabeth looked at Rachel, her eyes wide. Annabeth wasn't sure if she should be glad that Rachel was trying to defend Annabeth and do something nice for her. "Annabeth doesn't need you to fix her problems for her."
"Shut up Dare," Thalia scoffed.
"Thalia, if Annabeth doesn't want forgive Luke for what he did, then that's her choice. Some people just can't be forgiven."
"Trust me, your one of those people," Thalia said.
Rachel rolled her eyes, "Of course Annabeth has forgiven me. Right Annabeth?"
"Uh..." Annabeth look at Rachel and then at Thalia. She tried to send Katie and Silena a look of distress, but they were too busy waiting in the long line to pay for their makeup. She was on her own. "Look, technically you guys are both wrong."
Wrong thing to say.
Rachel glared at Annabeth. "Wait a second, you haven't forgiven me?"
"That's not what I said!" Annabeth said, defensively. "I can forgive you...about certain things."
"Certain things?!"
"Oh, come on Rachel. You stole my boyfriend. I would never forgive anyone for doing something like that!"
Rachel stiffened. "Oh. I see."
Annabeth groaned. "Come on Rachel, don't be like this. We were just starting to get along. Try not to ruin it."
"Ruin it?! Annabeth, your the one that's ruining it. Your the idiot that can't figure what's right and wrong. For example, dating Mark: wrong. Another example, giving up Percy and practically handing him to me: wrong...for you at least."
Annabeth glared at Rachel and she suddenly had the overwhelming urge to punch her in the face. "Really Rachel?! It's the end of junior year and you actually have to go and ruin the fun for everyone?!" Annabeth picked up her shopping bags and rushed out of MAC, leaving Thalia and Rachel glaring at each other.
As Annabeth ran out, she could almost imagine the argument that were her friends were about to get into.
Well, wasn't that just a great shopping trip?!
Percy was already at La Ritz with his friends. They were lucky enough to beat the dinner rush and got seated before they had to wait for about an hour, like some people. He and the other guys (plus Clarisse) where seated and had finished ordering drinks by the time that the girls had arrived, and believe Percy when he says that he really wished that girls decided to just not show up at all.
Boy, did they put on a good show for the people at the restaurant.
Thalia and Katie were the first to show up and they did not look happy. They threw their purses down onto the table with frustration, causing Luke, Grover and the Stolls to jump.
"Everything alright?" Luke asked, his eyebrows knit together in confusion.
Thalia and Katie looked up at glared. "Of course everything's not alright!" Thalia shouted. "Why would you even think that anything would ever be alright when that stupid bitch decides to come along on a shopping trip that was strictly reserved for friends and friends only!"
Then, stormed in Silena, Juniper and last but not least, Rachel. Rachel was muttering something under her breath and she went to pull out a chair, but Thalia pushed her out of the way.
"What do you think you're doing?" Rachel snapped. "I was going to sit there!"
"No you aren't," Thalia challenged. "This table is for our friends and you clearly don't belong her."
"Percy," Luke muttered. "I think now it's time to step in and work your magic."
"Right," Percy replied. He jumped up and stepped in between Thalia and Rachel. "Okay ladies, let's tell Percy what happened."
"Your stupid girlfriend is the most nosy stupid girl that I have ever met! She tried to tell Annabeth what was wrong and what was right and totally insulted her! Long story short Percy, your dating a bitch."
"Oh please, I could say to the same to Luke." Rachel snapped.
"Guys, stop!" Travis shouted. The angry girls turned to Travis, expecting to hear him say some kind of moving thing that'll get them to shut up. Then again, it's Travis. All he did was just piss everyone off even more. "If anything," he started, "Thalia's dating a bitch because Luke got his sorry ass kicked during our video game war."
"Travis!" Katie shouted.
"Sorry, honey," Travis said quickly and sat down beside his brother, looking down at his feet.
"Look, guys, guys!" Percy pushed Rachel and Thalia away from each other, who looked like they were about to rip each other's throats out. "Thalia, go sit down by Luke. Let me handle this."
"Oh, so know your taking Thalia's side?!" Rachel shouted.
Percy spun around. "What?! I was just telling her to sit down."
"Which really means that you want her to sit so that you can yell at me instead. You just want the satisfaction of knowing that you got yell at me and no one else did. God, you are such a jerk!" Rachel shouted.
Percy stared at her blankly. "I just said for her to sit..."
"Girls are so confusing...," Nico muttered.
"They've been confusing me since I was born," Connor mumbled, "Starting with my mother."
"Would you two shut up?" Rachel shouted. "God, Percy, you hang out with the most immature people ever."
"They were your friends too," Percy argued.
"Yeah, but I never actually liked these losers."
"She did not just call me a loser!" Nico shouted.
"She wasn't too far off," Connor muttered.
"CONNOR!" Katie, Thalia and Nico shouted.
"Guys, just let me handle this." Percy turned to look at his girlfriend. "Rachel," Percy sighed. He looked into her eyes and tried to look for any sign of regret, but all he saw was downright anger. "Look, I don't think this is working."
Those words shocked everyone at the dinner table and they let out an over dramatic gasp. Rachel's eyes widened and for a second, she actually looked hurt. But then her evil, malicious narrowed and she looked as if she was about to punch Percy. "What?" She said, flabbergasted. "What do you mean this isn't working? Of course it's working! I love you! You love me! No matter what."
"Rachel," Percy persisted, "When we first started dating, it was because I was confused. I was hurt by Annabeth and I thought that you were making things better, but after finding out what happened with Annabeth..." Percy sighed. "I'm sorry, but I never cared about you the same way that I cared about Annabeth. I'll never love anybody as much as I loved her, and to be honest, I don't think I ever actually felt like I loved you. I felt like it was just...a thing."
"Are you calling a rebound?" Rachel spat.
"No, not exactly but-."
"You just said that I was a rebound!" Rachel argued.
Percy looked around to notice that the other couples in the restaurant had directed their attention at Rachel and Percy. He cleared his throat, uncomfortably. "Look, Rachel, let's not make scene or anything."
"Make a scene?! You already made one, Percy Jackson!"
"Rachel don't-."
"I HATE YOU, PERSEUS JACKSON!" Rachel shouted. She shoved Percy and he stumbled onto the ground. She glared at him and raced out of the La Ritz, slamming the door behind her.
Percy stood up, his face bright red and looking around the restaurant. He uncomfortably cleared his throat and walked over to his friends. He looked up at them, and examined their face. He could tell that they were all surprising fits of laughter.
"That was-," Luke started.
Travis grinned, "The most."
"Badass," Thalia choked out.
Connor joined in, "Thing."
"Ever!" Katie said, beaming.
Percy shrugged, "I was just saying what was on my mind."
Nico couldn't keeping calm anymore. He jumped up and slapped Percy on the back, grinning. "Congrats, bro!" He shouted. "Your free!"
Percy grinned. "At last."
WELL ABOUT FRICKING TIME PERCY! Isn't that such a happy ending for this chapter?
Anyway, I'm sorry if it annoyed you that I totally skipped ahead to the end of the school year but I felt like doing that. So, it wasn't my best written chapter but I feel like it's a nice chapter to have since it creates some separation from all that girl drama (for the most) and just nice to finally write some humor
And seriously? That ending? I think yes.
Hopefully some of you guys went, 'Thank God' and smiled because that's exactly how I felt while writing this.
Anyway, how about you guys leave a little review telling me how you feel about that ending :)
