Chapter VI - The Fall

Alyssa POV

Every morning, Alyssa would always take a ride around Winterfell. She had to get use to riding a horse, because it could prove to be useful at some times. Septa Mordane tried to dissuade her, claiming it is not lady-like, but Alyssa refused to listen to the Septa. She is thirteen already and hell even her mother can ride a horse as well as any knight in the realm.

She spent her time learning about King's Landing from the books in the library. She could've asked Joffrey or anyone in court, but she didn't want to speak with them now. Alyssa wasn't sure if she was nervous or not, but the thought of going to King's Landing, living in the Red Keep with the Royal Family seemed to be daunting and exciting. King's Landing was established as the capital of the Seven Kingdoms by Aegon the Conqueror and the Red Keep was built by Queen Visenya and Maegor the Cruel after Aegon decided that Aegonfort was not large enough for a King to live in.

Her father often said that Winter is Coming. Alyssa knew from eavesdropping from her brothers' lessons, when there is a long summer, winter will come. This summer has lasted for nine years, they could expect a cold winter soon. Alyssa would be glad to get away from Winter for a while, even though she was a Northerner, cold winters would always bother them. Just being they are descended from the First Men didn't mean they were immune from cold. Besides, Alyssa was born during summer and has spent most of her life in Winterfell which was one of the warmest castles in Winterfell.

Alyssa watched seeing Rhae walking in the same speed as her horse, she smiled at Rhae. She was glad that her father allowed, Sansa, Arya, Bran and her to bring their direwolves. The direwolves are more than pets to them, they are one of the last direwolves in the realm and also the sigil of House Stark. Therefore, the Stark children and their direwolves holds a special bond.

She frowned seeing Rhae suddenly stopped and started to run, Alyssa rode after her and then saw another wolf howling. It was Bran's wolf, and beside him was Bran.

"BRAN!" Alyssa screamt as she quickly dismounted from her horse and shook Bran's body. She moved her hands towards his neck, trying to see if she could feel a beat, but she couldn't. Alyssa was panicking and yelled, "HELP!"

Alyssa looked up, Bran fell from the abandoned tower in Winterfell, at the First Keep. Alyssa frowned, she remembered once Bran told her that the First Keep is always empty. She would've gone there to investigate, but Bran needs her help more. Several minutes later, Robb's wolf Grey Wind came in and join the howl, Robb was shocked to see Bran fall from the First Keep.

"Call mother!" Robb ordered her and Alyssa rushed into her mother's room without hesitation.

"Alyssa, what's wrong?" Catelyn asked concerned. Alyssa saw her mother talking with Septa Mordane.

"It's Bran, mother!" Alyssa said gasping for breath. "He fell."

oOoOo

Godswood

Alyssa along with the rest of her family was praying at the Godswood. Except for Sansa of course who decided to go to the Sept. However, Alyssa wasn't sure if the Seven Gods would listen to her at the Godswood. Her father was sharpening their family's Valyrian Sword, Ice., But Alyssa saw that in her father's face, there was worried and fury. Alyssa walked towards her father worried and said, "Will Bran be alright?"

Ned began to speak but suddenly Maester Luwin came in and said, "My Lord, Bran will live."

Alyssa immediately felt relieved and quickly rushed into Bran's room, with Rhae following her from behind. She was surprised to see Queen Cersei excited the room, but quickly ignore that and went to Bran's room. Her mother has been sitting next to Bran all day, trying to nurse him back. Alyssa smiled and kissed Bran's forehead. She knew with Bran's condition, it meant that he cannot go to King's Landing. Maester Luwin had sadly confirmed that Bran will be a cripple for the rest of his life.

A tear dropped from Alyssa's eyes knowing that not only Bran's spine and legs being shattered, but also his dreams. Bran has always dreamt of riding a horse, being a knight like Barristan the Bold and Aemon the Dragonknight, now all this dream would have to come to an end.
