As soon as the eerie thoughts ended, Izuku's vision faded and turned into the familiar radiation one.
Melissa who was standing exhausted in front of her friend paled as she saw his eyes turned black.
"Hello Melissa Shield, remember me?"
Izuku's intimidating voice rang throughout the stadium, everyone present were shell-shocked to hear such a chilling voice coming from a seemingly harmless teenager. After being addressed the blonde watched in horror as the whitette extended his arm in an attempt to touch her face.
And
Before it could make contact, something exploded from Melissa's body...
Two stages earlier
Izuku and Melissa were standing way behind the crowd, they had agreed on working together up until the one-on-one matches.
"So what's our strategy?"
Izuku formed a smirk and chuckled, "You'll see, just remember what I told you, 'kay?"
"You mean pick you up and run?", Melissa was a little nervous about the whole thing, but she had made a promise to her uncle and she'll keep her word, not to mention she trusted the greenette implicitly.
'I'll make the world acknowledge my presence and proudly say I AM HER-'
"GO!"
Present Mic's voice sprung the whole flock of children in action, they were gathered in a small area through which there was only one exit, a narrow tunnel awaited them.
"SO ERASER WHICH PART WOULD BE CRUCIAL TO THE RACE!?", Mic asked his fellow announcer.
"Right there, watch this."
Melissa was about to run behind the crowd and follow through the tunnel when Izuku grabbed her arm and nudged her towards himself.
"May I~"
"You may~"
"DO YOU FUCKERS THINK THIS IS THE TIME TO GET ALL LOVEY DOVEY!", The explosive teen spat as he blasted his way through the crowd. Katsuki had an advantage in this obstacle as multiple participants ducked or got out of his way in the fear of getting burnt.
On the other hand Todoroki decided to freeze his way out of that tunnel to get ahead of the other students and a certain 'whirlwind' user had decided to employ a technique where he pushed air out of the base of his palms and propelled himself forward, the wind and the ice user were going neck to neck and were almost out of the tunnel competing for the lead as Katsuki was doing his best to catch up to them.
"ERASER! WHY ISN'T IZUKU DOING SOMETHING!", Mic pouted as he gazed upon the greenette-blonde duo standing in each other's arms right back at the starting point.
"Maybe he got some strategy, but you have to be more impartial Mic."
"Yeah, yeah, alright. wooo! Todorki made some ice, Inasa made some air, Bakugo made some firecrackers, woooo..." Yamada spoke in a lazy-exhaustive voice.
"Not what I was going for. Todoroki utilized an efficient strategy to slow down his competition, but some of the members of his class and his sister-class seemed to have evaded it, only the ones with less 'physical' quirks have fallen in his trap."
Izuku took notice of the fact that the tunnel was almost empty and then he signaled his partner.
"Whenever you start to feel pressure, run for it."
"O-Okay!"
Izuku calmly joined his hands and closed his eyes, he had been practising this move for quite a while and now he was confident that he could pull this off, though this might put a damper for the second round…
Melissa and the whole audience noticed the clouds shifting, the sky became dark grey, black clouds replaced the white ones and the wind pressure increased immensely.
"WHAT IS HAPPENING ERASER, WHY DO I FEEL LIGHTER!? I MEAN I AM HAPPY THAT IZUKU FINALLY MADE HIS MOVE BUT I AM FREAKING OUT IN THE AIR WITH MOST OF THE AUDIENCE!"
Aizawa who was calmly strapped to his chair formed a smirk under his bandages, "I guess now we know why Nedzu provided these seatbelts, attention everyone in the audience, for your own safety, fasten your seatbelts."
"LITERALLY!", Mic shouted as he tried to get back on his seat..
Melissa had grabbed onto her comrade but wasn't feeling a thing, it's like she was shielded from the changes in her surroundings, 'So that's what he meant, when he said that his altered weather doesn't affect him.'
Todoroki, Inasa and Katsuki who were fighting neck to neck for the lead noticed that they were losing their footing, the explosive and wind user knew they could turn this around for their own advantage while the candy cane boy realised this could be bad for him.
Momo quickly took note of her friend's plan and decided to go for jetpack, rather than the bike she was preparing at first, the ravenette took hold of the 'chart' user and exclaimed. "Wanna work together vice-rep!?"
"Yes!" Sekigai responded instantly.
The 'creation' user strapped herself on Kashiko's back and questioned. "Where is our weather-maniac?"
Sekigai activated her quirk and noticed the figure of two of her friends still standing behind the tunnel. "They haven't crossed the tunnel yet!"
"Oh no."
Izuku was still in his 'meditative' state, quiet as ever concentrating and continuously increasing the air pressure of his surroundings.
After another minute or so the blue-eyed blonde noticed faint screams coming their way, she gazed upon the sky and noticed that all of the participants were now... afloat!?
"WOAH, LOOK AT THAT! OUR LITTLE IZU-CHAN HAD GIVEN A TASTE OF HIS POWER, DRIVE IT HOME NEPHEW! BUT I THINK THE AUDIENCE WOULD BE WONDERING HOW'S HE DOING IT", the loud english teacher turned to his partner for answers. "CARE TO ENLIGHTEN US ERASERHEAD?!"
"Midoriya's quirk is 'Weather Manipulation', he can bend the weather as he sees fit. Currently he is increasing the air pressure and directing it to lift up his surroundings, thereby making all the participants fly, however this can be a double-edged sword."
Just as Shouta's words escaped his mouth, Izuku nudged his partner and whispered. "Go."
The Ninth user grabbed a hold of Izuku and picked him up bridal style, the part whitette was still focused on increasing the air pressure,while Melissa charged upto 8% of her power and ran, she was fast, she made out of the tunnel and within a moment she was on-par with Inasa and the other two teenagers.
"WOW! THE POWER COUPLE SEEM TO BE WORKING TOGETHER FOR THIS RACE! WHAT AN AMAZING SHOW OF SPEED FROM 1-A'S RESIDENT SHIELD"
"They are not a couple yet and it was pretty evident when they didn't separate during the beginning."
"THAT'S FAIR!"
The 'Whirlwind' user noticed a blonde and green tea from his sister-class taking the lead, he took advantage of the increased air pressure and thrust himself forward at a much greater speed then before and quickly caught up to them.
A certain heterochromatic teen was having trouble with the current ordeal, while he was satisfied that almost all of the participants were having way more trouble than him, he knew that using the preferred part of his quirk would be next to impossible, the 'perfect creation' also knew that if he were to employ his left side, he could be in the lead… but he won't, Shoto calmly closed his eyes and thought of a way out this situation. After a second it came to him, he touched his abdomen and let the power of chilling ice continue to course through his veins.
"WAIT! DO MY EYES DECEIVE ME OR TODOROKI JUST FROZE HIMSELF TO STAY ON THE GROUND!"
Mic's co-commentator was too baffled to see his student risk his health rather than using an extension of his own quirk "I'll have to look into this." he thought while announcing. "Yes, he added weight to counter the air-pressure that was keeping him afloat."
As the half-and-half teen reached the ground he formed an icy path and merged his feet into the ice-path to keep him stuck to the ground, he formed a firm space between the path and his feet and went swiftly sliding through the empty field.
If Katsuki was being honest, he was having fun, the wind kept him levitating while he just had to blast and propel himself forward, but unfortunately his explosions while were outpacing Todoroki's speed, they were not holding a candle as to the almost bald guy and the two idiots of his class.
Melissa noticed they were in the lead, her happiness was short-lived as she saw a muscular fellow who seemed to be controlling the winds as he flung himself through the sky. The ninth user of One for All knew she'd regret this later but to uphold her promise it was a small price to pay, she upped her limit to 20% and drove through the field, she was moving so fast that she didn't even notice the large hunk of robots that were in their path.
"WOW THE GIRL'S ON A RUN! I DON'T THINK SHE PROCESSED THAT SHE CROSSED THE "ROBO INFERNO"! WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING THESE KIDS ERASERHEAD!"
"She, like everyone here is fueled with their own drive, I didn't teach them this. They all got each other fired-up to win."
"WOAH LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, LOOK HOW OUR DEAR ERASERHEAD CONFESSES THAT HE IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER!"
*THWAP!*
"OW! IT WAS A JOKE!"
Eraserhead noted that Izuku had made another move, "It seems the weather had turned for the worse, along with the floating effect, there have been the addition of several Tornadoes along the way."
"WAIT, TELL ME ISN'T THIS AGAINST THE RULES!?"
The R-Rated hero who had been cheering and wore a T-shirt with Izuku's face printed on it took it off to complete her duties,. "Technically he is using his quirk on the surroundings and not directly on his participants so it's not against the rules."
"IT SEEMS OUR WONDER COUPLE AND YOARASHI ARE IN THE COMPETITION FOR THE LEAD! HERE COMES THE SECOND OBSTACLE, 'THE FALL'! BUT I GUESS WITH OUR GREENETEE'S GENEROUS GIFT THIS OBSTACLE DOESN'T HOLD ANY DIFFICULTY RIGHT ERASER!?", Mic said, trying to rile up the crowd.
Aizawa hummed, "While it will provide advantage to cross the fall, you have to remember that Izuku can cancel his quirk at any moment…"
"OH!"
Melissa could feel her bones aching and groaning as pain was slowly and steadily spreading throughout her body while she jumped to make it pass the obstacle. She was about to reach for the other end when her foot slipped, much to her horror.
"Oh no!"
"Don't worry."
The whitette repositioned himself and held Melissa on his shoulders and activated his quirk, purple veins slithered through his skin and he slowly levitated above and positioned himself onto the solid ground.
"OH NO! IZU-CHAN LOST THE LEAD!"
Aizawa had given up on the thought where Mic will be impartial so he took the other part of the commentary.
"We lost it, that guy is freakishly fast! How are we going to win now!?", the blonde asked as picked up her partner and again powered up to run.
"You don't worry about it."
Melissa hopped through The Fall and made her way through while carrying the whitette. Once again, she gave a tiny burst of 20% to gain a boost as she came in view of her final obstacle.
"THE MINEFIELD! OUR LAST OBSTACLE FOR THIS ROUND, THESE LANDMINES AREN'T LETHAL BUT FLASHY ENOUGH TO GIVE A GOOD SHOW! SO WATCH YOUR STEP!"
Izuku formed a wicked grin as he glanced towards a floating Inasa, "This is where we gain our edge." as he said these words, he cancelled out the pressurized air.
"This is what I meant when I said about the 'double-edged sword'." Aizawa's voice rang throughout the stadium as every participant came back to the ground, several of them were unlucky enough to land directly in The Fall while others tried their best to keep their composure and keep running.
Bakugo and Todoroki sensed the decreasing pressure, the former increased the intensity of his blasts to gain his lost speed while the latter un-encased his iced-foot.
Yoarashi on the other hand, using his quirk weaker than normal, forgot that he was exactly above a bunch of land mines. The boy lost his balance and fell directly on the detonator.
"OOH, LOOKS LIKE INASA HAD AN EXPLOSIVE LANDING!"
Taking advantage of his pit-fall, the wonder couple made their way through the mines swiftly, thanks to Izuku's levitation and Melissa's 'Air-force' which the girl has been learning for quite a while now.
They were almost through the end of the tunnel when the 'Weather-manic' as his uncle had dubbed him, hopped off his partner's arms.
"Melissa, thank you for carrying me this far, but I would like to cross the finish-line myself!"
"Nonsense! The Wind guy will be here in a second, come with me!"
"Please, I have to do this."
Melissa saw the determination in his eyes and nodded, she reluctantly re-powered down to 5% to give her body some comfort and ran through the end of the tunnel.
"IT LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE A WINNER FOLKS! MELISSA SHIELD HAD WON THE OBSTACLE COURSE WITH A STUNNING PERFORMANCE THROUGHOUT HER WAY!", Mic announced the result, while he was sad that Izuku didn't win, he knew this just wasn't his forte.
"Congratulations Melissa Shield, now let's cut back to the rest of the pack.", Aizawa spoke as the screen changed to Bakugou and Todoroki.
"AARRGH!" Bakugo yelled as he tried to one up Todoroki, both boys were fighting to at least pass the other. But when they heard about Melissa's win, they yelled as they powered up their quirks to the max in a desperate attempt.
"THOSE TWO BOYS SURE ARE HAVING A BLAST!", Mic said as he watched with total amusement while Aizawa shook his head.
"Wow, look at them go.", Sekigai said as she clung to Momo.
Momo sighed as she was glad that they weren't like that. "Mhmm, I'm glad that they ignored us and didn't destroy us on their path."
"Mmmm, this is nice."
"Sure is."
They felt a strong gust of wind push forward from behind them, startled, they screamed. Inasa had enough and was doing his best to cross the line that would mark his victory, well, as high as he can get besides 1st place.
Sekigai, out of her shock, desperately left Momo, "Sorry! But I gotta do this!"
The creation user on the other hand, deadpanned, "I can drop you off you know"
"No, you go on!"
Momo relented and re-activated her jetpack as she sprinted in an attempt to secure the next highest rank, she passed the ash-blonde and heterochromatic teen and went for the finish line.
Izuku panted as he tried to run, even if his body wouldn't let him, at the same time, he used his quirk to levitate himself from the ground while pushing forwards. He could see it, the end and the finish line!
'Almost there! Come on!', The whitette begged.
Just as he was about to feel relieved from almost passing the line, a sudden flash appeared at his side, it was the bald wind user!
'Dammit no!'
After passing, he could hear the two obvious powerhouses fighting for dominance and a certain 'Creation' user getting ahead of them.
Sekigai followed the said powerhouses and gained a position for herself.
"THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS! THE END OF THE OBSTACLE COURSE! THE LEADERBOARD WILL UPDATE AS A STUDENT PASSES THE FINISH LINE!
