(a/n: After a short Valentine break, we're back folks!)
In a Shady bar, Kamino Ward
"Sensei, I don't want to watch these hero-brats show off their quirks in this sick event!" Tomura whined as he stood across a T.V screen that was live broadcasting the event in session.
"Listen Tomura, this event is a gold mine for us. It is a chance for you to learn about your future enemies, their shortcomings, their strengths and believe me you wouldn't want to miss this." The words of utter horror came from a side-placed screen that read 'Audio-only' on a plain lilac background.
"Y-Yes Sensei."
"I believe he isn't using his 'Blue-dragon' quirk, is it by any chance that you lied to me Tomura?
The man-child paled. "N-No Sensei, I swear he used that quirk on me, I have bite-marks of that brat's abomination."
"Haha, I was kidding my child, it's obvious they don't want me knowing the existence of such a rare quirk. Though our moles should've reported it, I'll have to pay them a visit…"
As if on cue they witnessed the power of a certain greenette as he rose the whole stadium worth of audience and participants afloat.
"That quirk is really something…" The supposedly free-willed butler voiced his opinion as he stood idly by.
"Oh yes, it is."
Shigaraki grumbled in his shirt, he didn't know what in the world Sensei saw in that spoiled brat. 'It just makes me kill him even more!', he also didn't know why the dark lord adored him so much, it was as if they were related…
'But that couldn't be it, right?'
In the VIP section
"MELISSA MY BABY WON! OH TOSHI I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW! I AM GONNA GOOOOOOO CONGRATULATE HER!" David cheered while continuously shaking the no. 1 hero.
"Now now David, calm down. She will get a break, so we can meet her after this round." The deflated All Might assured his overly excited friend as he tried to shake off the eyes upon them, 'Apparently VIP's tend to be quiet and DadShield isn't helping…'
"Aww, come on, can't you squeeze in a little meetup before that!?"
"She will not be allowed to leave the stadium, I am afraid you're gonna have to wait."
"Okay…" He grumbled but as if on cue, his eyes landed on his baby blonde hugging the life out of a certain greenette in front of hundreds of audience. "Wait, is Melissa and Midoriya kind of a thing now?"
"A-uhh-uhh-uhh"
"Toshinori…explain..."
Everyone had finally crossed the finish line so Midnight moved on to announce the next event.
"The top 42 from the obstacle course will be advancing to the next event!" Midnight announced as the screen behind her flared up with the top participants. "For the people who didn't make the cut, don't worry, we got more events to show off your talents!"
Mic took his cue and began. "ALRIGHT EVERYONE! LET US BEGIN FOR OUR MAIN SECTION OF THE FESTIVAL! THE NEXT EVENT IS..."
Midnight picked up where her fellow hero trailed off. "THE CAVALRY BATTLE!" While the screen switched to the title of the said event.
"Cavalry?", "Hey is it like what we used to play as kids?", "Maybe."
Nemuri whipped her weapon and gathered the teenagers' attention. "Participants will form teams of 2 -4 on their own, they will form a horse-and-rider position. The rules are fundamentally the same as that of a classic cavalry battle: Snag your enemy's headbands and gather points. But there's a twist, each 42 of you will be wearing a headband that represents the total score of your team combined. At the end of 15 minutes the groups with the highest scores will advance onto the next round. Starting at 5 points and increasing by 5 points for every rank above that. The exception? First place is worth ... TEN MILLION POINTS!" Midnight snapped her whip again. "This is a chance for those at the bottom to climb back up to the top!"
Melissa felt all of the eyes upon her. "I should've thrown you towards the finish line, eh Izuku?"
The R-rated heroine took her time for the announcement to sink in and then completed. "With that, you have 15 minutes to form teams, good luck!"
Izuku took a deep breath and relieved that he wasn't brought up in the announcements this time around, he turned his attention towards the blonde beside him and spoke up. "So, you wanna work together in this one too?"
"Y-Yeah, let's do it!" A certain ravenette chimed in.
Melissa took a deep breath, it was evident that having both of her best-friends with her was helping with her anxiety. "Yeah! The three of us are gonna rule this competition."
"So what's our strategy?"
Kashiko was about to ask her new friends if she could join in, but seeing as the trio were all set up, she felt the presence of a certain ash-blonde behind her.
"HEY HIGHCLASS! Want to join?"
"Sure?"
While the other students were quite offended that Bakugo chose her over them who were crowding him for a while now.
"Hey Bakubro, you still got a place open?" Kirishima perked up as he approached his buddy.
"Hell yeah! Raccoon eyes you're in too!" Katsuki had noticed the looks two teens give each other and the pinkette's quirk could really turn out to be a game-changer in this round.
"Nice!" Both the said 1-A hero-hopefuls cheered.
Quite similar to the above interaction several people formed groups and started discussing strategies.
A maniac inventor was a little disappointed when she was rejected by the winner of the first round. "Oooh, being in the team of Endeavour's son will definitely bring me and my babies some attention!"
Izuku felt a little bad to turn down the pinkette with weird goggles but it was a team decision and seeing that he was pretty much spent out he decided not to raise his voice. "So what's our strategy?"
Melissa knew it would be somewhat insensitive but she decided to address the elephant in the room. "I-Izuku I think you should be the rider."
"Ride her? I hardly know her.."
"…"
"My bad, binged the Office last night"
"..."
"I am sorry, please continue."
Momo fake coughed and began. "So, you'll be on top."
"That's what sh-"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence!" Melissa screamed, intercepting Izuku's remark. "And who's she!?"
"N-No one, please continue!"
"Okay, so as I was saying before the rude interruption." The ravenette continued while glaring at her friend. "Since Izuku here can't run, we'll be doing the mobility part, I read the rulebook and there are none against taking the skies, Izuku can levitate us, I'll be incharge of propulsion using the jetpack and you will be on the lookout for any troublemakers."
"Sounds good to me." The blonde agreed while still a bit mad at the greenette. 'What is up with him today?'
"Y-Yeah, it's fine." Izuku muttered.
Roughly 15 minutes later Midnight announced the ending of the planning phase.
Izuku took a look around from his position, he could see Todoroki having a team of 4 like majority of the teams, what was interesting was that the insomniac teen had a jetpack on his back, 'Must be because he teamed up with a support student.' There was however a team of two sporting their rival from the first stage, Inasa and a guy who had a purple mask on with a single tube going from his back towards his finger. 'Was everyone allowed to bring gear!?'
"Izuku!" The 9th holder yelled in an attempt to boost their morals.
"Yep!"
"Momo!"
"All set!"
The said blonde formed a maniac grin "Let's do this!"
"READY, START!"
The greenette's team was arranged as him as the rider, Melissa in front for defence and Momo in the back for support, as soon as the heard the cry for the battle, Izuku activated his quirk, his eyes turned blood-red and minor purple veins begin forming on his skin, he was already exhausted from the round before so he won't be able to use the lightning part of his quirk. The two girls held onto the whitette and began to rise up in the sky, the 'creation' user took her cue and activated her jetpack all the while Melissa powered up her quirk to 8%.
"WHOA, NO SURPRISE THERE, THE POWER DUO FROM FIRST ROUND HAVE TEAMED UP AGAIN WITH ANOTHER OF THEIR FRIEND! I BELIEVE A PERSON'S RELATIONS ARE QUITE CRUCIAL FOR THIS ROUND HUH ERASER?" Mic asked his co-commentator.
"Yes, as much as it pains me to say it, friendship out-ranks points in this round." Eraser spoke with a sense of grief in his mind as a mental picture of a certain 'cloudy' person flashed in his mind.
Mic caught on quick on the sudden change of mood and decided to change the topic. "SO WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL BE THE STRATEGY OF OUR DEAR IZU-CHAN!"
"Impartial Mic, but it is interesting to see that they have decided to take it to the skies."
"ISN'T THAT AGAINST THE RULES!?" Mic questioned the referee.
"There is no rule against it, so I will allow it!"
Hazashi turned off his mic and snickered. "Now who isn't being impartial, haha!"
Melissa took in the view from up above, all the teams rumbling against each other. Apparently they were not being attacked at the moment so there was a clam before the storm in her mind.
"Give me that…" The plain words came from a Lilac haired tired teen as he shot off with his jetpack towards them.
Izuku was still too focused on keeping them afloat so the blonde took charge and flicked one of her fingers and blasted a couple of 20% air shots towards the flying teen.
Taking evasive action, Shinso pushed a button on his gear and he was back with his team in no time with the help of Todoroki creating an icy landing.
"That was a close one." The ninth whispered it to herself.
Unfortunately for them, the hell wasn't over as the explosive blonde bolted from his team and propelled himself towards the team using power-packed explosions.
"DIE!" He exclaimed as he created a smokescreen and ripped off a band from Izuku's head and got caught by Kirishima's hardened self.
"No!" Melissa screamed, panicked by the sudden move.
"OH! BAKUGO SHOWING OFF HIS IMPRESSIVE SKILLS, BUT DID HE GET THE TEN MILLION BAND!?"
The said teen looked over at the stolen band that read '195' in bold red numbers. "DAMMIT!"
"It would appear he had taken the band of Yaoyorozu, it isn't a deep step down for team Midoriya, but Team Bakugo is now in 2nd place…" Shouta announced.
"Okay, buckle up both of you, we're not staying in one place!" Momo roared while activating her jetpack, thrusting them forward.
"Now that I have recuperated some of my cells, I can do this" The weather-maniac spoke as he formed a concentrated hurricane all around them acting as a defensive layer for them.
"IT SEEMS TEAM IZU-CHAN ARE ON THE MOVE NOW! LOOK AT THAT TORNADO, IT SEEMS THEY'RE STILL PLAYING ON THE DEFENCE HUH ERASER!?"
"It would appear so Mic." Aizawa approved. 'What are you planning Izuku!?'
Due to the texture of the jet-streams it was virtually impossible to see within the gust of winds, they were safe for the next 9 mins, as Shinso's jetpack wasn't viable enough to cross through it neither were Bakugo's explosions. Both of the teens decided to go against each other and the other participants present in the area, however the former was still trying his best to make his explosion viable enough to power through it.
But after the said time period, suddenly a certain 'whirlwind' user from 1-B who had the masked guy on his shoulders broke through the windy barrier into the hurricane.
"OH! IT SEEMS YOARASHI AND FUJIMI HAVE A CHANCE TO GO AT THE TEN MILLION POINTS!?"
"Evidently so, it seems that his team could have easily gone through Izuku's defence, but they chose to clear out the other teams first." Aizawa mentioned.
Momo took note of the disturbance around them and yelled at the top of her lunges. "NOW!"
Several gun-shots were heard and within a moment almost all the rider-participants surrounding them fell into dream land
"WHAT'S THIS! TEAM IZUKU HAVE FINALLY MADE A MOVE, Thank god I was getting bored… "
Shouta sighed, he knew that Izuku might still have something up his sleeve and what better than to knock out your opponents. "At the risk of being wrong, are tranq darts approved?"
Midnight snapped her whip and plastered the biggest-shit-eating grin. "Yes! By Principal Nedzu himself!"
"I MEAN IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT… IT MAKES SENSE, SHE'D USE THEM IF SHE WERE IN A VILLAIN SITUATION SO WHY HOLD THEM BACK! JUST FOR THE SAKE OF AUDIENCE AND HERO SAFETY COMMISSION, YAOYOROZU HAVE THE JUNIOR LICENCE TO KEEP AND USE GUNS AND SHE HAS BEEN TRAINED IN THE SAID ART BY OUR OWN MR….. SNIPE!"
The audience's screen shifted from the battle arena to the said hero waving at them from the stands.
Melissa instantly gave herself a quick burst of 20% and bolted from her position to gather all the head-bands while the greenette slowly landed them and neatly placed the headbands across his neck.
Inasa was about to dive through the eye of the tornado when he saw they weren't there and then he took note of the announcements. "These guys are AMAZING!" He roared and blasted out of the gusty environment to search for them.
"TWO MINUTES REMAINING!"
Todorki had a substantial amount of points, thanks to Shinso's brainwashing, Tenya and Hatsume's speed and his ice.
He was about to be hit with a dart when the piece of weapon was hit by the crazy's backpack. "Aren't my babies amazing!"
"Sure." Normally he'd be a rider but seeing as he couldn't use the preferred part of his quirk without being in contact with the ground and the fact that keeping Shinso with the two speedsters wasn't a good idea in the slightest, he had kept himself as the side horse.
As if on cue he noticed that the wonder trio had come back to the ground, he took action and instantly froze his surroundings, effectively entrapping them with himself in the area.
"Guys, can we still go to the skies?" Melissa asked her comrades.
"N-No- can't do- no more." The greenette who was in crippling pain, murmured.
"Yeah, I am afraid I am almost out of usable lipids, the fuel took a lot out of me." 'Creation' user spoke up but not loud enough to be heard by the opponent's team.
"DIE!" The words of utter frustration came from an explosive blond whose team blasted through the ice-cage and dashed towards the lead team.
"HEYY! Don't leave us outta the fun!" Inasa and his partner dropped right behind Izuku's team.
"OH! LOOK THE TURN OF EVENTS, TEAM MIDORIYA IS COMPLETELY SURROUNDED! A COMPLETE FACE-OFF BETWEEN THE TOP 4 TEAMS!"
"10 seconds remaining!"
Bakugo exploded out of his team and bulleted himself in an attempt to grab the band, Todoroki, will all his might completely froze the surrounding so they were immovable encasing both Melissa and Momo's lower half, Inasa THREW!? His partner in the sky and thrusted himself towards the greenette.
Izuku and his comrades could only look in horror as all the contenders made their way towards victory while they stood helpless.
"5!"
Tenya saw the opportunity as either do or die. "Leave it to me!" He exclaimed and powered up for his 'Recipro-burn!' and grabbed the Ten Million band within a second.
"OOOH TEAM TODOROKI GOT THE LEAD!"
"3!"
Inasa's demeanour changed in a second he thrusted winds so fast that could give Iida a run for his money and grabbed the newly placed band from Shinso's neck.
"NOW IT'S TEAM FUJIMI, WHERE DID HE GO BY THE WAY!?"
"2!"
Fortunately the explosion from Bakugo's team had melted the ice so Melissa was gathering the bands from the preoccupied opponents, that's when Bakugo launched the mother of all explosions and took the Ten Million band for himself and as he was about to place it on his neck he watched in horror as there was no other points there.
No none, noticed that during the smokescreen that was caused due to Bekugo's attack, Izuku had activated Hydra and snatched all of Bakugo's points right off his nape
"AND THAT'S IT!" Mic announced the completion of the second round of the continued "LET'S SEE WHO'S IN THE TOP 5!"
The screen switched to the ash-blonde standing exhausted and angry beside his overjoyed teammates "TEAM BAKUGO ARE THE WINNERS!"
Next the view was focused on an almost faint Izuku, a very hungry Momo and Melissa who was helping both of them stood tall for the announcements "IN SECOND WE HAVE, TEAM MIDORIYA! Hoooooray!"
"THIRD PLACE IS SECURED BY TEAM SHINSO! FOLLOWED BY TEAM FUJIMI" Mic announced as the latter was caught by his teammate moments ago.
"AND FINALLY THE SILENT KILLERS, TEAM TOKAGE!"
"We did it Melissa!" The ravenette exclaimed while high-fiving her teammates, she knew that the event was of grave importance for the girl.
"Yeah…" She whispered
"Oh, I am sorry Mel, I know you wanted to ace every event. I shouldn't have saved my juice for the end there", Izuku murmured while looking down at his feet
The blonde noticed the sudden change of mood due to her expression, she wrapped her arms around both of them and cheered, "It's fine! Besides I am gonna win in the end!"
"Oh, we'll see!" Both said in unison
Just as they were asked to move out of the field for the break, Mic's voice flared up on the speakers "What an explosive round everybody. Let's put our hands together for all the competitors, and don't worry if you didn't pass we have events for all the competitors to do while we construct the arena for the final event. With that we're taking an hour long lunch break, we'll be back in no time flat audience!"
In the VIP area,
"IT'S TIME, I AM GOING TO MEET HER AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME!" David exclaimed while running through the corridors,
Toshinori had transformed into his hero-form to make public appearances and to meet his successor "David you're going the wrong way!"
'I hope she isn't beating herself up for this second place… it is more than I could've asked of her', He thought while chasing down his friend.
