"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BAKUGO ADVANCES! AFTER AN EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE HE WINS BY KNOCKOUT!"
The ash-blonde stood in the middle of the stadium while his redhead opponent was lying unconscious at one-end of the arena. He sported a grin with a minor gash on his left cheek. He was about to walk out of the area after the announcement of his victory when he remembered the words of his therapist.
'Always be humble when you're victorious. Victory is remembered at most two decades, but an act of sportsmanship is remembered for a lifetime.'
As the quote hit him, he wasn't seeing Kirishima as his opponent or a pebble in his path, he saw his friend, a peer who needed medical attention as soon as possible. The 'Explosion' user stopped in his tracks, ran over to the redhead and picked him up over his shoulders as he went for the tunnel-corridor that led to Recovery Girl's infirmary.
The Eraser hero noticed his actions and decided that they are worth praising. "You all should learn the importance of sportsmanship, outside of those white lines of the arena, you all are colleagues, friends and fellow heroes. Act that way."
The next match was of Shinso's, the lilac-haired teen stood up from his seat on the stands and started walking towards the field, as he entered the corridor connecting the arena, he heard a couple of "Good Luck!" from his classmates.
If the giddy smirk on his face was anything to go by, the students of 1-A would say that he was confident. Mostly because he hadn't used much of his quirk during the festival and the fact that his opponent would be oblivious of it, was more than enough for him to have an edge over his her.
He approached the arena from one side while his rival, from the other. She looked gorgeous, Hitoshi knew he had promised himself to not have warm feelings towards anybody but he couldn't help but admire the beauty in front of him.
Ibara Shiozaki, he remembered the name, the girl was gracious as ever, he had seen her around the campus a couple of times, but couldn't muster up enough courage to talk to her and when he thought about it, in a way both of them were polar opposites.
'Hey, opposites attract right?'
The insomniac teen reached the arena and prepared his strategy, he knew little to nothing about his rival, so it would be a chore to think what might infuriate her to utter a response.
"IT'S THE SECOND LAST BATTLE OF THE FIRST ROUND! IN ONE CORNER WE HAVE THE UNDERDOG OF CAVALRY BATTLE, THE ASSASSIN OF 1-B IBARA SHIOZAKI!"
"Excuse me, I have simply come to achieve victory in battle, implying I wish to take the life of my opponent is simply offensive to my very being."
"RIGHT….sorry."
'Well, this certainly calms one of my worries.' Shinso chuckled internally.
"Ahemm… MOVING ON, ON THE OTHER CORNER WE HAVE THE MYSTERIOUS STUDENT FROM 1-A WHO IS MISTAKEN ON BEING SHOUTA'S SECRET CHILD ON A DAILY BASIS, LOOK OUT IZU-CHAN YOU GOT COMPETITION IN THAT DEPARTMENT, IT'S HITOSHI SHINSO!"
"BEGIN!"
Without a moment of deliberation, before the insomniac could even say the pleasantries, Ibara turned on her feet, closed her eyes, joined her hands and in an instant the vines from her head penetrated the ground and captured the lilac-haired teen in their grasp.
"WOW, THAT WAS QUICK!?"
Midnight was about to announce the result when the Shinso grumbled from his position.
"Y-You..." Hitoshi wanted to say something offensive, but… 'I am sorry Shiozaki-san, but I am here to win.' The teen pushed past his emotions and spoke.
"YOU'RE GONNA KILL ME YOU LIGHTHEADED IDIOT!"
The girl felt offended by his words and turned around to face him. "I would neve-"
And with that she was in full-control of him. "Untwine your vines and walk out of the arena."
Ibara complied with his commands and did as told…
"WHAT IS THIS? IBARA SHIOZAKI WALKS HERSELF OUT OF THE RING VOLUNTARILY? HAS THE COMPETITOR SHINSO DONE SOMETHING TO HER!? WELL, THE FIGHT IS OVER FOLKS AND A QUICK ONE AT THAT."
Once his opponent had stepped over the edge of the arena Shinso released his control. "Thank you for the good match Shiozaki-San." Before the girl could regain her senses he walked off.
"HITOSHI SHINSO WINS!"
The 'Vine' user was let out of Lilac's control and she was baffled to hear the announcement and the fact that she had just forfeited? What had taken over her? Was it the quirk of her opponent? Controlling others? If yes, then he shouldn't have any trouble sweeping through this competition… but something told her it was not that formidable.
Ibara marched up to her class's viewing section and she was instantly surrounded with her classmates, a certain ginger questioned.
"Hey Shiozaki, is everything alright? What happened out there?"
The girl looked at her hands and calmly responded. "I-I don't know, for one moment I was grasping him in my vines waiting for him to concede but when I regained control over my senses, I was already out of the arena. I must apologize profusely for my poor performance for my class."
Itsuka gave her a warm smile and pulled her into a hug. "It's fine Shiozaki, we had no idea what his quirk was, so there was no way you could've avoided this outcome!"
"Of course the detestable class of 1-A would have such a villainous quirk amongst themselves." The 'copy' user snarled from his seat.
Monoma gazed upon the next match-up and grunted. 'Izuku Midoriya, so he made his way into UA… Let's see what his quirk is.' The school staff had claimed that his quirk was 'Weather Manipulation' as listed under the official records, but he knew what he saw, it was exactly the same thing that happened when he tried to copy Yaoyorozu's quirk, but the only difference was with Izuku doing it she couldn't.
'And also she didn't slap him either, what kind of justice is that!'
"Good luck Kodai! We're rooting for you!" The class cheered on the silent girl as she made her way out of the viewing stands, even though she knew the class didn't have much confidence in her, she'll do her best.
"Hm..."
The greenette approached the end of the tunnel, he was accompanied by the blonde girl, it was as he said earlier, he was a nervous wreck and he was grateful Melissa remembered and came with him.
"Good luck out there~" She stated and saw the greenette turn towards her with a warm smile.
"Thanks, see you in a bit!" He replied and was about to go out of the corridor when he was engulfed in the arms of the said blonde.
"If going to battle will get me hugs from you, I should make this a regular habit~" He snickered with his head on her shoulders, inhaling the sweet lavender smell of her silky hair.
"You win out there and you'd get much more than a hug~"
Izuku felt blood coursing through the basement when he gazed at the sultry look on her face, the girl separated from the hug, squeezed his hand once and began walking away from him, again leaving him wide eyed with a goofy grin on his face.
"Alright, let's do this!"
"WELCOME BACK TO UA SPORTS FESTIVAL! IT'S TIME FOR THE LAST BATTLE OF OUR FIRST ROUND! And ohh boyyy it's gonna be my favourite one yet! ON ONE CORNER WE HAVE THE LITERAL SILENT KILLER, literally silent part not the killer, she just likes to stay quiet, which is quite nice, 1-B'S FINAL CONTENDER FOR THE QUALIFIERS, WE HAVEN'T SEEN HER QUIRK IN ACTION YET, BUT I AM HOPING WE WILL! IT'S YUI KODAI!"
The said ravenette stepped forward on the arena and gave a silent "Hm" at the audience.
"AND ON THIS CORNER, Shouta you can't stop me! THE SWEETEST, CUTEST GREEN BEAN OF 1-A AND THE APPLE OF OUR EYE, THE ONE WHO HAD SHOWN INCREDIBLE DISPLAY OF POWER, SINCE THE VERY FIRST ROUND AND BEEN OFFICIALLY DUBBED AS 'WEATHER MANIAC' ALL OVER THE INTERNET, A BOY WHO MADE EVERY MAN WATCHING THIS FESTIVAL JEALOUS, THE POWERHOUSE OF THE POWERHOUSES, MY NEPHEW! IZU-CHAN! OR AS YOU PEOPLE KNOW HIM, IZUKU MIDORIYA!"
The 'Weather Manipulator' face palmed at the introduction and gave a grateful smile to his uncle. He realised people might call him the teacher's pet or the favourite kid but he knew from over the years that with UncleYama it's to be expected.
"GOOD LUCK IZU-CHAN! And you too Kodai!" The R-rated hero exclaimed.
"BEGIN!"
What no one noticed during his brief face-palm was that the greenette had activated 'Scanning' and caught a glimpse of his opponent's quirk.
-Touch based, Size altering, Close ranged-
Izuku was standing in front of the emotionless girl and devised a strategy to end this quickly without causing any harm to both of them.
'Touch based and size alteration, so she can change the size of objects that she touches, makes sense, but if she can do it to a human… that'd be scary.' He concentrated on the ravenette and followed suit. 'I wasn't paying much attention, but UncleYama said she hasn't used it yet, maybe she's limited to inorganic substances like Momo? Well, I can always ask her back at the dorms.'
The boy was done waiting for her to make a move and started to increase the surrounding air pressure, he began slowly as he wanted her to have a chance to show-off her capabilities against him.
Kodai's hair were swirling with the wind, but she wasn't bulging a bit, watching as the silent-girl was still not making a move, he increased the winds slightly higher and prepared to take off to the skies.
At the moment when his feet left the ground and were only an inch above, he glanced at the girl and instantly regretted it.
To his shock, the ravenette took off her gym jacket and started making a ball of it in her hands, Izuku's concentration faltered watching Kodai standing there with nothing but her track -pants and a firm charcoal black sports-bra.
"ERASER, ISN'T THAT AGAINST THE RULES?"
Aizawa sighed, the girl seemed to have cracked the boy's weak spot. "No, as you might remember, there were instances where Yaoyorozu did the same to use her quirk efficiently, this is just her creatIvely using the resources at hand and utilizing the element of surprise against her opponent. While I do not condone it, this might be a well-thought out strategy. Our teacher Midnight would be a prime example on what could've been her inspiration."
Melissa's eyes widened when she gazed upon the situation, she felt her angry-jealous side taking over. 'That's two, TWO TIMES!' She gave the 'Creation' user a glare then the whitette's opponent.
The said teen shoved his hands in front of his eyes and turned away, that's when his opponent pounced, she didn't move per say, but she threw the jacket upon her foe, the quirk-stealer noticed her actions and was quite confused, that's when it hit him. 'Touch based… Size alteration…'
To prove his point, the girl connected her hands and the jacket grew multifold in size and engulfed Izuku entirely.
Mic really didn't wanted to be impartial, but he had received several glares from his co-announcer and a message from the principal to tone it down a notch, so he went with it. 'I CAN ALWAYS CHEER EXTRA HARD FOR IZU-CHAN RIGHT!'
"WOAH! AN IMPRESSIVE USE OF HER QUIRK, FOR PEOPLE WHO'RE WONDERING, HER QUIRK IS CALLED 'SIZE', SHE CAN ALTER THE SIZE OF NON-LIVING THINGS THAT SHE HAS CAME IN CONTACT WITH."
Izuku heard the announcements and while he was glad that Mic was doing some impartial commentary, it was getting a little hard for him to breathe. He pushed past his suffocation and activated his quirk again, trying to lift off with the jacket, that's when it happened, something large and heavy hit him right in the head and he fell onto the ground, back first, holding his skull in pain.
"DID MY EYES JUST DECEIVE ME OR DID KODAI JUST THREW HER ENLARGED SHOE AT IZUKU!? "
While Aizawa kept his cool exterior, he was internally hoping and wishing that Izuku could still get past this.
After some rustling from under the parachute of a jacket, it seemed that he was standing up, the girl took note of it and took off her other shoe, flung it at him and touched her fingertips together right before the impact, leaving the boy knocked on the ground, yet again. However this time a smashing sound was followed after the impact, indicating that the boy might've fell face-first and probably broke his nose.
People would assume that if their classmate was winning they would be excited and cheering them on, but apparently 1-B was sitting eyes wide and mouths agape at the scene in front of them. With a single word on everyone's minds
'How!?'
The scene on 1-A's side wasn't much different, but rather than surprised, people were worried, they knew due to the lack of Izuku's physical mobility, he couldn't thrash his way outta the trap, the blonde and the ravenette where chewing out their nails in anticipation and worry for their friend.
"Come on, Izuku… This can't be how you lose!" They exclaimed from their position in an attempt to motivate him, but they doubted that their voices reached him.
The crowd was conflicted, they knew they should be cheering but the unexpectedness of the event had them as silent as the girl in the arena.
Midnight, grew worried when there was no sign of movement for a couple of moments, that last shoe must have hit pretty darn hard and it wouldn't be a long shot to consider that he might have fainted from the suffocation as well. Even though she was worried sick about her nephew, she wanted him to win this, to show the world what he's capable of, but reluctantly she went down the arena and asked her basic question
"Izuku Midoriya, can you continue!?"
There was no reply, a wave of horror flashed over her and she was about to raise the flag towards the girl when the clouds shifted.
And it rained…
Each and every person on the field released a pent up sigh they didn't even know they were holding.
Within a second a lightning struck near his opponent and due to her being without any shoes and wet.
"AAAAAAAA!" Kodai screamed at the top of her lungs, her cry shook each spectator to their very core, they saw her rag-doll body collapse at the position with fumes still rising from it. She experienced the shock which effectively knocked her out of commission.
Izuku mustered up the strength and stood up, he swirled his arms around himself from under the jacket which resulted in a gust of winds which freed him from the suffocating piece of clothing.
The rain was still happening and the crowd was still silent, he glanced over with a plain face and bloody nose to Midnight and she announced the result.
"IZUKU MIDORIYA WINS!"
The boy didn't even wait for Mic to announce further and he approached his opponent, took off his jacket and carefully wrapped it around the unconscious girl, fortunately she only received minor burns, so he picked her up in his arms, and levitated away from the arena towards the infirmary.
The crowd was silent and it was still raining…
The greenette was now laying in a bed beside his ex-opponent under Recovery Girl's care, while the youthful heroine was prepared to scold him for doing too far, she held it back after noticing the pained expression on his face.
"H-Hey, Izuku?" Came the voice of the blonde as she slowly approached her friend with the ravenette in tow.
The boy glanced at his friends and turned his head away in shame, he was not uttering a word ever since he heard that painful cry, he was supposed to help and protect people from such incidents, not be the cause of it.
Both of the girls calmly sat at the chairs beside his bed, they looked over to the still unconscious girl and was about to ask Chiyo about it when a couple of 1-B students rushed in.
Melissa noticed the Vine-haired girl, but she didn't recognize her ginger and 'Metal' quirked partner.
The ginger spoke as she approached Kodai and sat on her bed "Recovery Girl..." The school nurse gave her attention to the girl. "I-Is she going to be a-alright?"
"Yes dear, the burns are almost healed and she should wake up at the end of the day"
"AT THE END OF THE DAY!" All the occupants except Izuku shouted.
"I am afraid so, it would've been much quicker but she was exhausted as it is."
After hearing her response and Chiyo telling them to leave the girl be, they were about to go back to their viewing section, when the 'Metal' user approached Izuku.
The two girls were a bit alarmed as they assumed that he might attack him or speak something foul about his quirk, but rather the boy offered him his hand.
"Hey Midoriya, are you alright?" He did not get any response so he continued. "Just so you know, we don't blame you man" This got him the attention of the greenette. "I mean, she went a little overboard too, those attacks were downright brutal, but this isn't the point… there are many of us too who have trouble controlling our quirks and isn't that why we're here?"
He had held his hand but getting the hint that he might not get his shake at the moment, he pulled it back. "I just wanted to say that, infact, no one blames anyone, it's just one of the steps on the way to become a hero, right?" He completed and began walking away, as he reached the door he took a second and said one last thing before exiting. "I hope we can be friends, man, there aren't many people out there who are pained this much at their unfortunate actions, I admire that… that was manly, Midoriya."
"He was nice." Momo noted as she grabbed the greenette' hand and made him turn. "Exactly Izuku, I know you're chewing yourself out, but it's not your fault, if you were allowed to use Hydra, I think we could've avoided this."
Izuku and Melissa's eyes widened as they remembered that the 'Creation' user wasn't yet acquainted with the story of All For One, so they kept quiet and hummed.
"Yeah Izuku, I know this is exactly why you refrain from using your lightning on another human being, but you have to see that even in your panic state you made sure that she wouldn't be struck directly."
He rose from his position and sat quietly. "I-I guess, but I am still not comfortable doing that, you heard how she screamed, even now it's haunting..."
"I know." Both of them said in unison and embraced the teary eyed teen in a loving hug.
"W-Wait, Melissa isn't your match next?"
"Well, this was another reason why we came here, apparently you haven't stopped your quirk and it's still pouring out there…" The blonde chuckled.
"O-Oh, well… there that should stop it. They'd still need me to heat, I better go..." He spoke and was about to get up when his hand was grabbed by Melissa and he sat back down, both of them staring into each other's eyes.
"Well, I'll give you two some privacy. Meet you at the stands Izuku!" Momo teased and left the two-lovebirds as she called them, alone.
Back at 1-A's viewing stands
A retractable shed grew over them and they knew that the principal might've suspected something similar to occur, but the stadium was still wet as ever and it was raining cats and dogs. At the moment, they were confused if this was Midoriya's rain or the natural one.
That's when the skies cleared, bright sun shone and the shed's retracted back and light flashed all over them.
They were still silent until Mina decided to raise something that had been making her blush for over 20 minutes now,
"Is it just me or in the end when Midori took off his jacket and picked up Kodai, that was HOT AS HELL!"
"I know right! I mean I would love to be picked up by a well-built shirtless boy in the rain!" The invisible girl made a couple of girls from the class blush with her, while the boys just scoffed a little or made a mental note to ask Midoriya for a rainy day.
"But seriously though, I now Midoriya could always do the lightning thingy, but now that I saw it in person, it's so… terrifying." Sero spoke out loud.
"Yeah, it's no wonder he never used it during training, I saw it during the USJ too, but most of that was attracted by the Noumu, so I doubt the villains would've gotten badly hurt. Ribbit"
"I don't think I could download a direct strike without injuring myself, but with 'Insulator' maybe I can help him out!" Kaminari stated excitedly on the prospect of having a 'shocking buddy'. *Wink wink, nudge nudge.
"WELCOME BACK AGAIN! THE LAST FIGHT WAS TENSE! THE FIELD WOULD BE DRIED IN A MINUTE, PLEASE THE NEXT CONTENDERS REACH THEIR ARRIVAL TUNNELS!"
At that moment Momo arrived among them and the heterochromatic teen left the area.
