Chapter Five:

After finding the metallic arm, which Maria eventually remembered was actually formally referred to as a Vileblood Prosthetic, remembering having seen a similar one (possibly the very same one) in her youth in Cainhurst, Elizabeth and Maria returned to the old storage room in search for various items that could be proven useful. While the young Blood Mage was mostly just looking for stuff that caught her attention and curiosity, Maria had more of a goal in mind. Trying to find a more wieldable weapon than the Church Pick for Elizabeth, which was not only too heavy for the girl to wield properly but also required the use of two hands in its transformed state of a warpick, believing that a weapon that could be wielded with a single hand would be better, as she remembered the person who also had a Vileblood Prosthetic in her youth complained quite often about how annoyed they were about the fact that the prosthetic lacked a sense of touch and relied heavily on hand to eye coordination.

Maria sent Elizabeth a glance over her shoulder when the young Blood Mage exclaimed that she had found something interesting, only to raise an eyebrow when it was revealed that the interesting thing Elizabeth had found appeared to be a case of sorts. After coming over, while making sure that a rather large pile of stuff that Elizabeth had made didn't collapse on top of them, Maria opened the case which contained a weapon from Yharnam, more specifically a Trick Weapon of Cainhurst. A Reiterpallasch. A side-sword, the sort of middle child between a broadsword and a rapier, that could transform, revealing a concealed firearm. While not the most used weapon from Cainhurst, it was still a versatile weapon. With the old rumor mill claiming that the first Reiterpallasch was used in a political assassination in a free-style competition in swordsmanship, though that was never confirmed.

"A Reiterpallasch." Muttered Maria to herself, her tone conveying a slight sense of awe.

"A what?" Asked Elizabeth, who clearly heard what the Hunter muttered.

"Reiterpallasch."

"Eh? Bless you?"

"No no. That's what this weapon is called. Reiterpallasch. I think it'll be perfect for you."

"Okay? Cool name. But why would it be perfect for me?"

"It's a Trick Weapon that's wielded in a single hand in both modes. One of which unlocks the concealed pistol in the hilt."

"Okay but you haven't technically told me the reason why."

"I thought it'd be obvious, and that isn't a jab at your intelligence. You're my apprentice."

"… should I be prepared for the training from hell?"

"Eventually."

"Fuck."
