Dan recalls that day like he does with his favorite movies. He remembers the way he fought so hard to get himself free and when he fell after he's peppered with bullets. He knew in his gut then that he was done for.

He shouldn't have gone alone.

He should've pulled someone else to go with him. It would have been an entirely different story.

His life flashed before his eyes —

The day he and Chloe got married;

When they had Trixie;

When he chose to shoot Malcolm and inadvertently condemned his wife;

To their separation and then divorce;

To new beginnings with Charlotte; to her death;

To his impending doom.

It sucks, but it is what it is. Except he promised Trixie another game…

— and sees wings. Maybe he's hallucinating as he's struggling to suck in another breath. Until this angel called his name and he just felt like letting go…

"Daniel!"

It's Lucifer. Definitely. But Dan knows he's barely holding on. He needs to get the words out.

"Ca-caleb,"

Lucifer doesn't seem to be listening though. His head is bowed down, and his palms pressed together in a prayer.

Detective Espinoza sees Amenadiel land beside the devil. He attempts to get the words out again, "Caleb,"

But the brothers weren't listening at all.

The next thing Dan sees is Lucifer's face in the hospital.

"I was telling you about Caleb,"

"Yes, yes. We figured that one out while you were taking your sweet time recovering." Lucifer teases.

"But how did I survive that?"

"Amenadiel froze time and I shared a little of myself so that you'll stay tethered to Earth until those doctors fix you. Don't overthink it."

"Easy for you to say. Wait," Dan pauses, anxious to ask, "when you say you shared a part of yourself..." then trails off,

"Oh, wouldn't you like to know." Lucifer grins and waggle his brows, teasing him again. "I can assure you, no bodily fluids were involved. I take being in a relationship with the Detective very seriously."

Dan sighs, "On second thought, I don't want to know."

"Well! Have no fear my dear Detective Douche. Everything's fine. Did I mention I'm God now?"

"What?"

"You've been in that bloody ICU for three weeks. You've definitely missed out."

"Oh, then congratulations are in order."

"Hmm!"

"Thank you again, uhh, God..?"

"Ugh! The monicker sounds terrible when it's coming from you."

"Well, you are God."

"I am. But I'd prefer if you would still call me Lucifer. That is my name after all."

"Alright. Lucifer."

Lucifer looks away for a second, "They're here. In the parking lot, as we speak."

"How did you…?"

"The Detective texted me, of course! I've yet to get all the omnis."

"What?"

"Just... get better Daniel. I'll see you again soon."
