I'm sorry for taking a few days longer than I intended, but family and getting over the Thanksgiving holiday took longer than I hoped. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this chapter!
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT! I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU ALL!
Please remember to review at the end! :)
The rod's power coursed through his veins as Klaus held it in his right hand. The other remained in his left as a symbol or a reminder, he couldn't really tell, of the one he was hoping to find.
Klaus lifted the rod in his left hand, and felt the pulling of its power. It was reaching out to her. Closing his eyes, he envisioned her the way she was before everything had happened. He saw her smiling, laughing, and loving. Things which made her light shine brighter than he had ever seen. The image in his mind faded as a new one replaced it.
Caroline was screaming, calling out his name, as fire burned through her skin right through to her soul. She was in pain, and he wasn't there. Opening his eyes, they flashed with anger, hatred, and pain. Anger that his precious Caroline was hurt, hatred because it Mikael who was doing this, and pain because he felt her pain.
He lowered his head, and closed his eyes once more. He needed to find her. He had to find her. He couldn't lose her, not to anyone and certainly not to Mikael. He lifted his head once he heard footsteps come out into the balcony where he stood.
He didn't turn around to greet whoever was coming up, because technically he wasn't in the mood.
"Niklaus."
Klaus finally turned around, and sighed. "What are you two doing here?" He asked, solemnly.
Elijah glanced at his younger brother, Kol, who was standing beside him, before looking at Klaus. "We came to help." He answered, firmly.
Klaus shook his head. "I don't need any help." He replied, turning with his back to them.
Kol stepped up, his gray tunic and jeans gave him the look of a mortal instead of a god. He stared at Klaus' back for a moment. "Yes, Nik, you do, and whether or not you will accept it is up to you." He stated, with little warmth.
Klaus whirled around. "No, I don't. This is my problem, Kol, and mine alone!" He shouted, his eyes glaring.
Kol frowned. "No, this is not just your problem. Mikael is all of ours." He stated, folding his arms over his chest.
Klaus shook his head. "Don't you have some love matters to tend too? Or some prophesies you need to hand out?" He mocked, stepping around his brother.
Kol frowned deeper. "You know that the Bennetts took away my gift of prophesy, but…" He trailed off, turning towards his halted brother. "My duty to my family comes first, Nik, even you know that." He stated, softening his gaze slightly.
Elijah nodded in agreement. "He's right, Niklaus. Family always comes first, and Caroline is family. She is your wife, is she not?" He asked, though he already knew the answer.
Klaus sighed, and nodded. "She is." He answered, lowly.
"Then that makes this even more precedent." Elijah stated, firmly.
Kol nodded with his brother. "We understand it is your right and we even respect it, but going up against Mikael? Alone?" He asked, with a shake of his head. "That is lunacy." He added, sternly.
Klaus frowned. "I have no choice, Kol. I can't leave her to suffer or even die at the hands of that bastard!" He shouted, though his voice cracked at 'die'.
Kol bowed his head. After a moment, he looked up at Elijah, and shook his head, to which Elijah nodded in understanding.
"Then follow your heart, Niklaus." Elijah whispered, with a slight smile. "We will be right here if you should need us." He added, clasping Klaus' shoulder.
Kol copied the gesture and nodded. "Damn straight." He stated, with a sly wink.
Klaus only nodded his head, and turned to leave the balcony.
"Do you think he will find her?" Kol asked, glancing at Elijah.
"Yes." Elijah answered, stiffly.
"Alive?" Kol asked, worriedly.
Elijah was silent for only a moment, before he glanced at Kol. "For all our sakes, I certainly hope so." He stated, vehemently.
Kol nodded slowly. "So do I." He whispered, solemnly.
~X~
Klaus held out Caroline's bident, and slowly closed his eyes. For the third time in his life, he allowed his heart to speak. He felt the bident pull him, and a small wave of relief flowed through him.
He began to follow the pull, and noticed the bident was stronger in a certain direction and weaker in others. Following the strength and his heart, he walked all the way towards his destination.
He glanced down, to find Caroline's wolf walking beside him. His first thought was to tell him to head back, but he could use the wolf's help. Nodding in acceptance, he continued onward.
He paused, finding himself at the edge of Oblivion, or as some refer to it was Hell. It was the place where the worst of the worst were sent to relive their crimes in their life, and taste their victims' pain to the point of insanity; however, for others it was the place of imprisonment, cut off from everyone and everything. It was the place he and his brothers had placed Mikael all those eons ago. Though his punishment was much worse than others who were placed here, his punishment was an eternity of isolation and with no power.
Klaus' anger festered as he stepped into the realm. The pull from the bident was strong, and it was then he felt the pain and strength of Caroline. Though, he could tell it was waning. He needed to hurry.
Glancing down at the wolf, he paused. "Keep alert." He stated, simply.
The wolf seemed to bow his head, and his stance straightened as if he was became attentive.
They walked through Oblivion, with no sound coming from either of them, and stopped when they reached a small cave. Klaus' eyes narrowed as he recognized the cave.
"Stay." He stated to the wolf. "Howl if you see anyone approaching." He added, glancing with a hard gaze at the wolf. The wolf sat firmly down at the mouth of the cave, though Klaus could see the sadness in his eyes before he entered.
Placing Caroline's bident in the belt of his pants, he pulled out his own. His eyes remained vigilant and searching through the semi-dark cave.
"Stop right there, Klaus."
Klaus halted, and straightened his back. "Well, if it isn't Alexander." He remarked, coldly, turning his head. "Tell me, how is your personal hell?" He asked, mockingly.
Alexander glared at him. "You should know. You sent me down here." He stated, with ice in his tone.
Klaus smirked for a moment. "You deserved it, after you played my sister." He returned, firmly.
The tanned man shrugged coldly. "She deserved it after she played with so many lives." He remarked, with a sneer.
Klaus clenched his jaw in anger, but kept his cool on the exterior.
"What no defense for your sister? I'm sure she will be so disappointed." Alexander mocked.
Klaus' fist clenched around the bident, and he felt the power surge. With a cold smile, he jerked the rod and the metal made a grating sound as the bident slide into place.
Alexander's face froze, and his eyes widened. "That's impossible." He stated, backing up with a step.
Klaus chuckled darkly. "Oh, it's possible." He stated, stepping out with his right leg, and turning his body quickly. With a swing overhead, he plunged the forks of the bident into Alexander's chest. "You should have left my sister out of this." He whispered, leaning forward, watching Alexander cough with blood coming out of his mouth. "And for the record, I always defend my family." He added in a whisper, feeling the power surge in his hands. "I hope you enjoy eternity in silence." He concluded, watching Alexander's eyes hold fear and skin glowing bright.
Another second, Alexander burned from the inside out, and his body fell to ashes on the ground.
Klaus sneered at the ashes, and jerked the bident. He turned around, and sighed as the bident became a rod once again.
Focusing on Caroline, he felt her presence further into the cave. He walked quickly down the twists and turns, and paused when he saw two men standing guard at the last entrance.
"Well, well, if isn't Alaric and Connor." Klaus stated, with a sneer. "Doing Mikael's dirty work are you?" He asked, tilting his head to the side.
Alaric swallowed, and shifted his gaze between Connor and Klaus. "Klaus…" He began, but it was too late.
In a flash, Klaus activated the bident, and jabbed the end of it in Alaric's stomach. Alaric bent over in pain, and felt his insides burning.
Connor grabbed Klaus and pushed him into the wall. Klaus groaned as he felt the cold stones cutting into his back. He lifted his right hand, and the bident flew out of Alaric's stomach and into Connor's back. Connor bent backward, and tried to grasp the object in his back, while letting go of Klaus.
Klaus scowled as he kicked Connor down, and the bident pushed through Connor's body. In a moment, Connor turned to ash in a fiery blaze.
Klaus yanked the bident from the ground and lifted his gaze to Alaric, who was moaning on the ground. Klaus smiled with devilish intent. "You should have stayed away from my wife." He growled, kneeling beside Alaric.
Alaric looked at Klaus, and swallowed. "I had no choice." He choked.
Klaus tilted his head to the side. "We all have choices. You just chose the devil's side." He stated, coldly.
"I just wanted to be reunited with my wife." He whispered, brokenly.
Klaus' features softened only a fraction. "She was not your wife, Alaric." He whispered, firmly.
Alaric smiled sadly, as his insides burned. "She would have been if not for that Cyclops." He whispered, harshly.
Klaus smiled. "All the same, you should have left Caroline alone." He stated in a cold tone.
"I never would have touched her, if Mikael hadn't controlled us with promises." Alaric remarked as he coughed.
"Well, now you will never see her again." Klaus stated with satisfaction.
Alaric closed his eyes. "Am I now doomed to spend eternity as you would have if not for Caroline?" He asked, opening his eyes with sadness in them.
Klaus studied the man, and clenched his jaw. "You were once a god, Alaric. You made the decision that led you here. You must pay the price." He answered, with slight emotion.
Alaric nodded, and gasped as the fire began to spread through him. "All I did was love a nymph." He whispered, as the fire lit his veins from the inside. "Tell Jenna I never stopped loving her, and that I'm sorry." He whispered, glancing at Klaus.
Klaus lowered his gaze for a brief moment. With a quick nod of his head, he watched as Alaric's body burned.
He sighed as the body was reduced to ashes. The river god Alaric, who was banished to Oblivion because of his love for the river nymph Jenna who had also gained the affection of a Cyclops, was now dead. Klaus felt a small twinge of sympathy for the once god, for he knew what it was like to love and lose or almost lose. Alaric did not know that Jenna had committed suicide because of her love for him, and that action had caused her to end up not in Oblivion but in silence.
Klaus smiled in knowing that they were to be reunited after all.
He turned on his heel, and entered a dark room. He heard the rattling of chains, and his heart clenched in his chest at the sound. He rounded the corner, and hid behind a rock wall. He glanced around the edge, and clenched his jaw tightly. The sight before him was heartbreaking.
Caroline was chained up against the wall, bound in shackles, which were glowing like fire. Her head hung low, and her skin was pale. She slowly lifted her head, and their eyes connected. He saw them brightened at the sight of him, and that gave him hope.
"Nik" She whispered her voice cracking.
He looked around the edge, trying to see if anyone was around. He edged around the corner, and placed his rod in his belt. He approached her with a quickness he thought he might trip.
With tears in his eyes, he stopped in front of her.
She smiled at him, and tears glistened in her blue-green eyes. "Is it really you?" She asked, searching his eyes.
Klaus smiled through his tears. "It's me, love." He whispered, touching her face.
She hummed and leaned her face into his hand. "I knew you'd come for me." She whispered, lowly.
He smiled and nodded. "Always" He returned, moving his eyes over her body, and frowned as he saw the shape she was in. "What has he done to you?" He asked in a dark tone.
Her brows frowned as she bit her bottom lip. "He's trying to take my power and my light from me." She answered after a moment. "You should not have come, Klaus." She stated, firmly with the little strength she had.
Klaus glared at her. "I wasn't going to leave you here, Caroline." He stated, moving his eyes to the shackles around her wrists. "I've got to get you out of here." He whispered, trying to find a weakness in the shackles.
Caroline shook her head. "No, Klaus, you have to get out of here." She began in a pleading tone. "He intends to take your power too, and make you suffer." She added, franticly.
He shook his head. "I don't care, Caroline. I'm not going to leave you. You are too important." He stated, in an unmoving tone.
Tears threatened to leave her eyes as she shook her head. "No, Klaus, leave me here. You're too important." She cried, her body shaking.
Klaus glared at her, and grasped her face in-between his hands. "I'm not going to leave you, Caroline. You're my wife and my heart. I won't lose you, no matter what the cost." He stated, tears brimming in his eyes.
Tears fell down her face. "And if the cost is your life?" She asked, shaking her head. "I don't care. I won't lose you either." She stated, through her tears. She groaned as the shackles tightened through her pain.
Klaus glanced at the shackles, and frowned. He moved towards them, but they burned his hand as he tried to touch them.
"You have to go, Klaus." She replied, watching him grasp the shackles with his hands, which were burning his hands.
"I'm not leaving you!" He growled, stepping back from the shackles. "I just found you, Caroline. I won't lose you again." He stated, grasping her face once more.
With fierce passion, he kissed her. He pulled back, and nodded. Reaching for the rod in his belt, his eyes never left hers as he activated the bident. Her eyes moved to the bident, and widened.
"Klaus…" She whispered, moving her gaze back to him.
He nodded. "I'll explain later, love." He whispered, stepping toward her again. "I'm sorry. This may hurt." He added, looking at her with slight sadness.
She nodded, and moved slightly to her right. She watched Klaus place the bident on the shackles, and the bident began to burn the shackles.
She moved her wrist slightly, and smiled. "I can move my wrist." She whispered, watching him nod.
She felt the shackle around her left wrist weaken, until finally it fell from her wrist. She exclaimed, and let her hand drop to her side. She smiled softly at Klaus, and nodded as he moved to her right wrist.
She winched as the shackle around her right tightened slightly at the intrusion, but finally began to weaken.
She moaned as the right shackle gave way, and her arms fell to her side. However, after a few days standing up, her legs were weak. She fell forward, and into the safe arms of her husband.
The bident felt to the floor, forgotten for the moment, as they held onto each other.
"Oh, my love, my love." He whispered in her ear, and she couldn't help but laugh with joy as she held him as tight as she could.
She was with her husband. She was safe.
"Well, isn't that touching?"
Klaus and Caroline stiffened in each other's arms at the voice behind them.
Klaus turned around, and kept Caroline at his back. "Mikael" He replied, with a voice that was dark and cold.
Mikael sneered as he stepped out of the shadows. "Hello, boy, did you miss me?" He asked, tilting his head in a cocky way.
Klaus narrowed his eyes. "How could I?" He stated, through clenched teeth.
Mikael chuckled, coming within a foot of him. "I see you found your wench." He replied, glancing toward Caroline.
Klaus stiffened. "She is my wife, and a Queen, not a common wench." He stated, coldly.
Mikael nodded. "I see. Well, it doesn't matter what she is, because neither one of you will get out of here alive. Not when I get through with you." He stated with satisfaction.
Caroline gripped Klaus' upper right arm with her right hand. Her left was drawn to his belt in the back. She moved her eyes casually down, and found a rod sticking out of his belt. She glanced back up at Klaus, and saw him give her a subtle nod.
She was about to reach for the rod, when Klaus was thrown across the cave, and was held against the rocky wall. She screamed, and tried to run towards him, but found that she couldn't move.
She glared at Mikael, and tried to move once more. Her legs were being held by the same darkness that had taken her once before.
"There is nothing you can do, my dear." Mikael said with a sneer. "You are both powerless, or at least you will be."
She felt her anger build up at the cockiness she was hearing. With a stiff glare at Klaus, who was struggling to lift his arms, she knew what she had to do.
Lifting her right hand, she concentrated on the rod.
What did you think? PLEASE NO HARSH COMMENTS!
I know I left the cliffhanger, but...that's just the way I am at times! Good news is, this story is extended to at least two more chapters, which means it will end on the 26th chapter, though truthfully I would hate to see it end!
SPECIAL NOTE TO THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY: The Alaric story came from the story Acis and Galatea. Acis was a minor river god who fell in love with Galatea, a nymph, though a Cyclops fell in love with her too. Acis was caught singing a love song to Galatea, and the Cyclops threw rocks at the two. Galatea turned Acis into a river. It's just a little tale I thought would fit Alaric and Jenna.
Next Chapter will be up very soon!
Until Next Time...
