My head hurts…
With both hands clutching the sides of my head as I looked down, still trying to sort everything out and come to terms with everything that's happened, a pulsing pain ringing out through my head as I internally hoped this was some strange fever dream.
I wasn't even bothered by the fact I was basically genderbent, I could get over being inserted into the body of a fictional character, but the alien device strapped to my wrist came with insane implications!
"...Th-This isn't the Omnitrix, r-right?" I stammered, eyes still closed, "Why are you giving me this and how the hell did you do this?"
"Of course it's not the original, in fact, your device is different in a number of ways."
"How?"
"I would rather not spoil things for you, but I will tell you that while you can scan alien DNA, there are no other aliens in your Omnitrix than what exists in your starting Playlist."
Okay, this calmed me down a little, knowing that I at least wasn't stealing an opportunity away from some Ben. Opening my eyes and gazing up, I was greeted by her careless smile, as if all this was just a casual thing for her, and given everything that's happened, I was inclined to believe it was.
"O-Okay. So… what now?" the question escaped me slower than I anticipated, but for good reason. I was still mad that I was tricked into this, but at the same time, this was kind of exciting…
Her smile grew as she slowly began to walk back to my computer desk, "Well, you simply go about your new life as you please, you will remain here for either ten years, or until the point of your death, at which point you will harmlessly return to your world." she stated, preempting any questions or concerns I was about to raise, "Speaking of which, time in your world has ceased flowing, so you need not worry about your family and friends, they will be fine."
Breathing a sigh of relief, hearing that actually did wonders for my mental state, as she'd breezed through basically every concern I had with this arrangement. But I did spare her a shifty glance before looking back at the Omnitrix on my wrist, "So what's the catch?" when she got confused I shook my head, looking back at her, "Nobody just gives this sort of power away, and some god-like thing doesn't just make and mess with a whole universe because some random person wanted a little excitement in their life, what do you get out of this?"
Her blank smile was honestly pretty terrifying.
"Akeru, you aren't the first and only person I've done this with, at this very moment I'm managing an infinite number of random folks, human and not, and guiding them on similar journeys." her matter-of-fact tone made it all too clear that she wasn't kidding, "You aren't even the first version of yourself that I've made a Jumper of, but if you need a motive, one reason is entertainment, creating a story from the various adventures people given power undergo, another is because this is how my kind reproduce, so to speak."
"Excuse me?"
I was genuinely at a loss for words, how does one go from hyping themselves up to saying that!?
"Simply put, some Benefactors are born into their power, but for the most part it is frowned on. So instead there was a system put in place to test others, to see if they were worthy of ascending to our station." she hummed, tone slowly returning to a more friendly one.
Shaking my head, I frowned at the implication, "What if I don't want to be a Benefactor, or whatever you are?"
"You needn't be, but I will guide you on your journey to unlock your Planeswalker Spark regardless."
"You seriously need to stop dropping new terms and lore on me without building up to it…" exasperated, I couldn't help but find the additional info bombs a bit annoying, it was like bad writing 101, "Okay, so from what I'm getting, you basically want to let me loose and just see what I do with it? No arbitrary objective about collecting some lost artifact, no time limit to beat some crazy boss monster…?"
Smiling vibrantly, she nodded, "Indeed, be it a heroic or villainous path, I merely wish to observe."
"And if I royally screw up, you're not gonna help, are you?"
"No, technically speaking I shouldn't even be here right now, but given how sudden and intrusive your Jump was, I felt a tad guilty and decided to greet you to sort things out."
Oh, well that's reassuring…
Returning my attention to the Omnitrix, I couldn't help but feel a bit misplaced here. I only really saw the first series, back when Ben was a ten year old. I know there were more, then a reboot, but I only really knew about aliens from the first… Playlist she called it?
"Alright, so Upgrade's probably going to be my favorite, and…"
Unfortunately, as I pressed the button and the faceplate rose, I was greeted by a silhouette I couldn't recall being in Ben's arsenal. Twisting the dial, it began to swap through different aliens, and by the end only three, maybe four, looked sort of familiar, but different possibly due to sexual dimorphism.
"Um, Dustukhia, we have a problem."
"On the contrary, I have faith you will come to learn the tools you've been provided."
"No, seriously, why don't I know any of these aliens?"
"Because they're from Alien Force, Ultimate Alien, and Omniverse."
"So I'm completely blind, thank you." I blurted out as I caught my forehead with my hand.
The amused being chuckled, "Well, there are two aliens in that Playlist you should know, but I wouldn't advise transforming here. It's honestly a miracle that your parents didn't hear your fall, transform and they're bound to hear something."
She then began to get up, brushing herself off.
"Well, it's been fun, but I really must be going now." she started, dismissing the hand I was raising for her to wait a second, "Also, there is one more thing you should know about, so be sure to find the clues I've left for you.~"
And without another word she was gone, vanishing, like she simply ceased to exist…
"...God dammit-"
It's a good thing that Akeru had already been to school for the day, because I was honestly not having it right after having what I thought was reality crash down on me.
Looking in the mirror as I finished putting my hair up in a ponytail, I paused, taking in my features once again, "...It's going to take a sec to get used to this." I muttered to myself before I pulled up my socks, packed a handbag with some junk, in particular a notebook to record what I figure out, my phone for obvious reasons, some snacks, and a couple drinks.
Opening the door, I practically jogged down the stairs and quickly realized basically nobody was home. Deja vu…
Writing a note for who were basically my new parents, I even decided to leave a location and time I figured I would return, just in case. It was a hero society, but that didn't mean there were creeps of all types, and god knows what manner of dark Quirks were never revealed to us.
And with that I was off.
It was honestly odd how familiar I was with the people and the location, and it took everything I had not to shoot a glance at what I swore was a member of Four Arm's species, but given I had an Omnitrix I wouldn't be shocked if this was some crossover world, that or it was just a really, elaborate Quirk…
Frowning as a rumble shook the street, I found myself and other civilians looking at some smoke rising in the distance, coming from what seemed like a busy part of the city.
What are the odds that it's Bakugou and the Slime Villain?
Shaking my head, I decided it best to ignore this and keep going, deciding it best to let Midoriya sort this out, especially since I would prefer him getting the Quirk he rightfully deserved.
Sitting on a log in the middle of a wooded area, similar to the one Midoriya, Bakugou, and his friends had played in when King Ego fell into the water, I set up a small area for my notebook as I scrolled through my playlist once again, slower this time as to hopefully get the details.
"Okay, so none of this is really helping… The only one I think I know looks like Heatblast."
Stopping for just a moment, I got up and away from the log and stood in the middle of the clearing I'd found, as to hopefully not set the forest on fire if I did turn into the alien.
"But then I'd just be copying Ben's first transformation, that's no fun…"
Closing my eyes, I blindly turned the dial, deciding to leave my first up to a random result!
"And… Now!"
Pushing down on the faceplate with two fingers, not slamming on it because I thought I recalled that being an issue, I instantly felt a weird surge pulsing through my body. It was difficult, if not impossible, to describe, like I felt every part of me just...swapped out.
Everything felt stiff and rigid, yet my movements didn't seem impaired, "Judging by the feeling… D-Diamondhead?"
My voice was a different tone, but it was also a lower pitch, it seemed to have some kind of reverb or distortion on it as well, like it was echoing or something.
Opening my now singular eye, which was already a bit freaky, I looked at my hands, which were slim, looking as though they were made of magenta crystals, eventually leading into the purple, rock-like mass that seemed to comprise most of my body, black, waving lines spread across it in a manner similar to sedimentary layers, possessing a slim, roughly feminine shape… However, that wasn't the end, there were a number of crystals, the same magenta coloring, that seemed to poke out of my collar, shoulders, knees, my forehead, and I presume my back, something I roughly imagined due to my shadow.
"Okay, so same vein, but different species?" I asked myself, clenching my hand. Ignoring the mineral pun I'd made, I tried flexing and squeezing my hand in various ways, but it seemed this alien was different from Diamondhead in more than just looks, unless I needed some kind of feeling to do the whole crystal manipulation thing, "Not sure what I expected, I already knew you weren't the same since I've seen Gwen with that alien."
In a geeky display of trying to discern the form's powers and how to use it, I had wished I remembered to set a timer so I could see how long it takes to time out.
Taking a break after I punched a tree hard enough it almost fell, I looked to my crystalline hands again, "Alright, enhanced strength and probably durability is a given, but even aliens like Four Arms have more than just being strong… What am I missing?"
As I tried to figure it out, I looked down, a bit on the nose for a crystalline being to hit the Thinker pose, but it was what I was used to. At least until I noticed something, a beam of light hitting the crystal on my knee in a way that refracted it, creating a prismic pattern across the forest floor.
Alright, so this alien works like a prism… Maybe I needed to focus? Not quite the same as refracting, but if this had something to do with light, that's how lasers worked, right?
Raising my hands, which I assumed would work since they were the same material, I focused, and after enough psyching myself up, exerting some energy and pressure, a prismatic light erupted from my hands in a beam that blasted clean through a few of the trees in its path.
Gasping, I quickly stopped firing, worried what might happen if I accidently caused too much damage to the place, "Cr-Crap! H-Hero Society, right…"
Doing my best to get used to this alien in the time I had, I managed to find out I could roughly control the power output of the light beams this alien shot. I decided to call her Prismbreak simply because of the prism elements and not having anything else catchy to mix with it. Speaking of, I also learned the alien came with a limited energy supply, and burning through it left me pretty exhausted, forcing me to recharge overtime, unsure if sitting in the light was helping that process.
Eventually the dreaded beeping could be heard, and to be frank I was shocked it took this long, it had to be at least forty minutes since I transformed…
"I guess that's to make up for not having additional aliens to unlock…" I muttered to myself in thought as I recorded this into my notebook, saving a section for what I learned about my Omnitrix and giving my playlist their own entries, hoping this would keep everything sorted in case I started forgetting some things, "Now to wait until it recharges."
As I waited, it dawned on me that I wasn't getting through all the aliens in my Playlist, I counted at least twelve in total, and if I was going to spend forty minutes on all of them, assuming that this was the day of the first episode, that explosion being caused by the Slime Villain and Bakugou, I didn't have long before the sun would start to go down, considering the sun was setting after the pros lectured Midoriya.
"As much as it's a pain in the ass, I should make this next one the last one for the day and head home, it's not like I won't have plenty of time between school and the entrance exams."
Shaking my head, I was already trying to figure out a schedule. My success depended on figuring out how to use these aliens, and despite being fairly caught up with the manga, I still wanted to help people… Generic as it may seem, I wanted to be a hero…
But the more I considered it the more it dawned on me that in order to get into 1-A, or any of the other classes even, I was going to have to replace someone, and that made me sick to my stomach. Everyone in 1-A and 1-B deserved to be there, and the fact was I didn't really think support class, business class, or general studies fit me, nor did they seem that appealing.
"Man this sucks…" the hiss escaped my mouth as I tried my best not to think about it, focusing on keeping an eye on the alien device, "...Unless I handle things like the original Ben. This extended time limitation would make it viable to be a vigilante. Possibilities to explore later."
On that note, a thought crossed my mind. Ben Tennyson traditionally gets his Omnitrix at ten years old during Summer, which raised a few questions I could look into in the meantime, assuming nothing I was seeking out was hidden by the Plumbers or some other group.
Searching my phone for any incidents relating to Mount Rushmore, I was thinking that if anything had already happened then there had to be at least an obscure theory out there, anything that could hint at Vilgax's big attack, and his ship flying directly overhead. But this wasn't the only event I looked into, looking up any strange sightings of purple lightning, or Kevin causing trouble, trying to frame Ben.
I still don't know if this is a true crossover, and that things from Ben 10 other than this Omnitrix are present, but if I can find any hint that says Ben's around, it'd be nice to have a solid timeline on both the My Hero Academia and Ben 10 side of things. Even if I'm in Japan, and even if I don't interfere, it would be nice to have a frame of reference for when the actually dangerous things begin to happen on both sides of this wacky world.
As I searched, I was shocked to find nothing, meaning either it wasn't a full on crossover, or he wouldn't be starting his journey until Summer, or at least a Summer, and the closest one was the Training Camp Arc.
"Well, that's kind of a bummer… It might've been cool to visit some time if I have an alien fast enough for that sort of thing."
Throughout my searching, I discovered my Omnitrix still took around ten minutes to perform a full recharge, logging this down, I was about to select another alien but figured that this time I should select manually, just so I don't risk getting Prismbreak again.
Still not sure I'm sold on that name.
As I turned the dial, there was a couple that drew my attention, and despite my best efforts I could only really assume the identity of two of them, "Alright, what about this one?"
Pressing the faceplate, there was a burst of green light, and I had instantly changed yet again. In a way I was thankful for it, cool as the transformation animations looked, they also honestly looked kind of painful.
Slowly though, as the transformation set in, I felt something change in my head. I couldn't put my finger on it, but my center of gravity felt lower, it felt like my arms were a bit longer and my legs shorter, and my body seemed wider to compensate, and as if all that weren't enough, I was bald, I could tell by a lack of feeling something other than a couple openings up top.
Looking down, the first thing I saw, to my shock, was a rounded, square window where my stomach should be, green gases swirling about on the other side. My frame had widened, no longer looking that much like a slim schoolgirl, a theme that carried over to my larger arms and hands, which now were much closer to my feet when hanging than a human's would be, which was probably helped by my legs seeming shorter to me. The last few things I could note about this alien were the numerous nozzles protruding from my body, as well as the purple coloration of my skin, some black spots seemingly present at least on my shoulders. The main reason I couldn't tell if there were more was because my shoulders were about the only parts of exposed skin I could see, everything else was hidden by a grey, almost nurse-like dress that fell so far that one wouldn't be able to tell my black boots with white soles were affixed to some kind of jumpsuit underneath, which was green, with a black line running up the sides, I could tell by parting the dress a little. My hands were inside of some thick-looking gloves, cuffed away by a pair of vambraces that extended to just under my shoulders with a black, rubbery band from underneath cutting being the stopping point, the vambraces themselves possessing holes for the pair of nozzles that poked through. The last few details of note were a 'belt' of sorts that wrapped around my waist, still having a way to see my stomach window, but it also looked like it had nozzles lining the side, the same could be said with my collar and neck, almost entirely contained in some neck brace-like gizmo, my mouth was covered in some kind of medical mask, something I could tell by feeling it.
The Omnitrix seemed to have shifted locations to the thing on my neck I almost considered a respirator, and lastly, I could speculate there were more nozzles on my back, and at least two on my head, around where twintails would be worn.
"The hell're you 'sposed to be?" strangely enough, the alien had some kind of Brooklyn accent, or something I equated to it, with a deeper voice than mine, "Well, least your power should be obvious…"
Given the gas and the nozzles, I figured it had to be either gas powers or fire powers, but it seemed it would take more than just exerting some pressure, it vented some gas from the nozzles but I wasn't sure it really did anything, and I seemed to be able to absorb and diffuse it. How did I know this? Good question.
The next part was just as confusing as I thought about it a bit more, figuring I could create something to disorient attackers, it was as if some kind of chemical template was installed in my brain and resulted in some kind of change. Venting this new gas into the air, I could only watch as wind carried it off, "Ah, sulphur dioxide, good thing these transformations weren't in reverse order or I coulda started a fire or somethin'... How the hell do I know that?"
It was a good question considering I didn't pay attention to chemistry in school.
"I should probably do somethin' about that." I shook my head as I breathed the gas back in, most of it anyway, "Should stop some kinda accident from happenin'... Probably."
As I continued with experimenting, I figured out a few different gases I could use… And one I would try to avoid using, considering it basically melted through a tree. I also managed to figure out that this alien seemed to have enhanced jumping despite its stout appearance, something I admittedly had a little too much fun with as I jumped from a few branches.
"Holy hell, if I wasn't scared heights this would be awesome! Maybe it still is though, I could use this as a chance to get over all those things that kept me painfully average!" I blurted in a victorious manner, honestly starting to get pretty excited about this Jumpchain deal, "Fear of heights, fear of drowning cause my dumbass never learned to swim, maybe I could even start bein' more social or somethin'."
As I was saying this, however, I looked down and realized I was pretty high up, my head starting to swim and run wild with the thought of a bad fall as my knees buckled a bit and I held the branch, with my arms included this time.
"B-But… o-one step at a time, y-yeah?" I muttered to myself as I considered how to get down.
It took longer than I would like to admit, mostly because I kept psyching myself out even when the answer should be obvious, if I could get up here then getting down should be just as easy. It took closing my eyes and really convincing myself there wasn't that much distance to trick my brain into letting me hop down, and by the time everything was said and done, mostly trekking back to my starting position, I timed out, reverting to my Human form.
"Straightforward, I like it, makes things easier on my end.~"
Humming to myself, I wrote down everything I learned about the last alien, took note of the sky, the sun starting to get kind of low, and named the form Gas Leak. Again, probably not that creative, but it worked for me.
Checking the time, however, I quickly realized it was about seven, my theory about not having much time left confirmed as I quickly gathered everything I brought and made my way back home.
"Yo."
"H-Huh?"
Upon opening the door, I was greeted by my mother, well, Akeru's mother… This was still going to take some getting used to.
She was tall to say the least, about six feet if I had to guess, and her athletic physique made me wonder how she was just a barkeep, unless bar fights were a common nuisance to her. Her skin, lightly tanned, seemed tattered in a way that I suspected she either was a hero, villain, or delinquent at some point in her life, though the scars honestly just made her look cooler. Her long, brown hair had a few sandy blonde streaks, it also fell to about her hips despite being pulled back in a ponytail. Her stern, yet gentle eyes, however, were a murky green color, a turquoise glint rounding her pupil. She wore a grey shirt, black jacket, blue jeans, a black, leather belt, and some brown shoes, though they were currently shelved at the entrance, as per culture.
From Akeru's memories I could tell this wasn't what she wore at work, and that she likely got off at five. Still though, wouldn't it make more sense to run a bar at later hours? Running one during the day didn't seem as effective to me, but I guess when you need a drink the time doesn't really matter.
"I heard there was a villain attack, so I was pretty worried when you were out there considering you don't get out much." she started, investigating me with her eyes, but she seemed relieved that I didn't look roughed up, "Also, you didn't answer my texts, so I was thinking about sending your dad looking for you."
Oh shit, did I mute my phone?
Rubbing the back of my head sheepishly, I bowed, "Sorry mom, there was something I needed to do."
"I noticed." before I could ask what she meant, she grabbed my left arm and held it up just under my Omnitrix as she eyed it curiously, "Were you saving up for this? It doesn't look cheap…" she then looked a little worried, "This wasn't to stand out, right? You know… you don't have to…"
She trailed off before looking away, seemingly ashamed of herself for making the conclusion.
Honestly, the Akeru side of me hurt a little. Gulping, I tried to calm this inner turmoil by thinking up what to do.
Is there a point not telling her? Or even dad? If I'm going to try for the UA Entrance Exam at some point then everyone's going to find out anyway.
"A-Actually, it's not an object… see for yourself." I stammered, giving her a confident smile.
I watched as she looked to me with a confused expression before focusing on the Omnitrix, at first she gentle gave it a onceover, she then tried to gently slip it off, and much to her shock it wouldn't budge, leading her to pull a bit more forcibly, but she stopped the second she realized that my skin rose with the thing she thought was a watch.
Releasing my arm, she looked to my face with a dropped jaw, her eyes shimmering as they shook, "A-Akeru… What is this…?"
Her tone honestly made me feel bad, it was confused, but there was a hopefulness to it that made the prospect of just passing it off as a Quirk seem unappealing, in case she ever found out the truth… But what else was I supposed to say? That some extra multiversal goddess just randomly strapped an alien device to my wrist that lets me transform into twelve different aliens?
Gulping, I decided to leave it up to her as I walked to a more spacious part of the house, hoping there was enough space for this.
"Wh-What are you-?" she asked as I started fiddling with the faceplate.
Without answering, I transformed right in front of her, her arm raising to block the green light. I had decided to use one of the aliens that I haven't turned into yet, which admittedly was a dumb idea, but I needed to also get the point across that I still needed some training, which would hopefully give her knowledge of my situation, and some space to develop my powers without needing to hide anything.
Turning to face her, I raised a hand so I myself could get a good idea what I was dealing with before she lowered her arm, and this was honestly the best way this scenario could go, because for once I recognized the species I had become.
My hand was a bit bigger than my arm, rather similar to Gas Leak's actually, if it weren't for how muscled the arms looked, clad in fingerless, leather gloves that were a mix of a brown material with black cuffs, the dark, bluish skin of my hands complimenting the light blue sin I presumed the rest of my arm was past the stitch that was halfway down my forearm. Clenching my fist, I could see bolt-like devices of some brass-like metal wedged into the back of my hand, a green glow flickering from the black line that ran across their center, already knowing that was the electricity probably coursing through my body.
This was that Frankenstein alien that Ben scanned, the one that was working for Ghostfreak!
I struggled to contain my excitement, doing my best to simply smile for mom to show her everything was okay, but considering this was one of my favorite aliens from what I recalled, it was a little tough. Matters were made worse by my Akerus side, who was probably fangirling as her memories of her father asserted themselves on me.
Our father, Chikata Rai, had a Quirk known as Storm Trooper, though he later called it Surge Soldier. He had the ability to draw in electricity, ambient or direct, and absorb it to enhance his muscles and release electrical blasts, though if he absorbed more than his body could handle it could burn and paralyze him, so he had to be careful with his intake.
Okay, so we're both in agreement then, this is our favorite alien so far.~
I would have to learn how to use my powers, and see what I look like, later. For now, mom was lowering her arm, eyes widening as she instinctively got into a stance like she was looking at an intruder, but I quickly raised my hands, noting that my left hand was different, starting greenish, stitched to a blue arm, and my right glove was a bit more defined, the devices from before, and a larger, fourth one, still present and in an oddly paw-like formation.
"Mom, I know this is shocking, but it's me… Akeru… that thing on my arm let me do this." I stated, my voice honestly reminding me of hers.
It took her a moment to realize I was being genuine, and I couldn't really blame her, she'd spent her whole life thinking her daughter couldn't have a Quirk, so this must have looked like someone with a shapeshifting Quirk impersonating her daughter and dropping the disguise when they were caught.
"...A-Akeru…?" she murmured, "B-But how!? You don't have a Quirk, it's n-not possible!"
As much as it hurt to see my mother against me like this, it was also understandable, or that's what I was trying to say to calm down half of myself.
"If I'm not Akeru, how do I know that your favorite flowers are sunflowers? And that you go out of your way to not look girly around your friends, and that you only show that side around dad and me?" I asked, lowering my hands.
It seems I lowered hers too, as they immediately fell to her sides. There was silence, I wasn't really sure what to say or do, but thankfully it seems I wouldn't need to do anything, mom suddenly hugging me, her chin on my shoulder now that we were roughly the same height. She was silent, she probably still wanted to keep up her rough persona, but after a moment I could feel a tear drip onto me as I hugged her back.
"...We have a lot to talk about." I hummed as I rubbed her back, her grip around me increasing.
