The next day, after the four of them arrived at Ultron's hideout. They spent most of the night having a stake out with both Pietro and Wanda going in to "help" Ultron get ready to leave for Sokovia. Darcy and Loki camped out in some park that was nearby the lair taking turns of keeping watch and communicating with one or both of the twins of what current status. But they soon discovered that Ultron is just as crafty and sneaky as any super villain that the Avengers could face in any moment. In case of anything, both Darcy and Loki felt like that they shouldn't underestimate Ultron because he seems to be type that will be ready for anything with a back up plan on his mind. They were waiting for both Wanda and Pietro to come back and give them the cue to start their plan.
"So Loki is this what it's like? To go out of your comfort zone and try to fight off and maybe even having to defeat and fight something that you probley don't even want to fight." said Darcy "Since as much as I think that fighting evil robots is cool, but I don't think I want to fight this fight because despite him wanting to destroy humanity. Ultron is just someone who needs to be fixed and maybe even teach to do the right thing rather than be destroyed. Since Iron man did created him and he's probley a couple days to a week old. I just wish that there was another way because you were a villain and you turned out alright.
"First of all Ultron is a monster that shouldn't have been built in the first place. I was different because I saw the errors of my ways and later made a good friend that caused me to change. Ultron is something that doesn't think or feel or even deserve our symphony." said Loki almost immediately "Secondly facing that machine is the least of my worries, there's something I still haven't told you about the battle I had with his drones before the scepter got stolen..." With one quick glance, Darcy could see something is wrong and it's bothering Loki. She knew that she had to help him and she's willing to hear him out even if she somehow has to force it out of him.
"Well what happened? Did someone else discovered that you are Mysto and they haven't told anyone yet? Did Thanos send one of goons after you and did something so horrible that makes you so upset or something?" asked Darcy "I want to help you, but I can't help you if you don't tell me what's going on." At that moment, Loki felt like that he could trust Darcy or at least tell her this.
"While I was fighting off the robots, the battle ended a lot sooner than I expected. It was because I had some unexpected help and thus with that help I was able to win the battle victoriously. The worse part is that even though I was under the mask, I had to lie to him again in order to keep my secret and now protect him from Thanos." explained Loki "He bought into the lie and even gave me a gesture of friendship and to join the Avengers. But now he's living some illusion that I conjured up and I can't even take off the mask to tell him the truth." At that moment, Darcy immediately figured out what must have happened and she noticed how quickly unusually blunt Loki was being.
"Don't tell me that..." began Darcy. But she stopped herself because not only Loki said it first and she also did not want him to feel any more guilt than he must have been feeling.
"Yes I saw Thor and talked to him. I had to say something because he just helped me without even knowing it's me." said Loki almost immediately "I know that I insisted that I should keep my identity a secret, but being in that position, being so close to him and undoing my wrongs and the pain I have caused. Not to mention, I also helped to not only destroyed a city but to put everyone in not just this planet but the entire universe in danger. I not only missed my chance, I have also lied to his face about being a total stranger and have to protect him from a threat that I helped created."
"Loki what's going on with Thanos was never your fault." said Darcy "I mean I am sure he was looking for the Infinity stones even without your help."
"But I helped speed things up and I am also going to hurt my brother even more if he ever finds out Mysto's secret identity. Maybe it would have been better if I had never left Asgard or at least returned to Midgard. I also dragged you into this so-called 'mess' and put you even more danger and you could be living a normal life, a life that you clearly deserve more than the one that you are currently living because of me."
Darcy can't help but feel sorry for him because even though she didn't have a brother or helped a power hungry alien that is now after you for failing to take over a planet. But she can imagine what he must be feeling and went through after seeing and talking to Thor again after so determined to avoid any contact or even try to avoid seeing him again. Now seeing him again and being so close on doing what he always wanted at the moment and having to refuse the chance to fulfil his heart's desire. But having to refuse it in order to continue his mission to collect all of the Infinity Stones and to continue keeping his secret in order to remain free and probably to protect Thor from both Thanos and the truth.
"You know I really like my new life, I mean I wanted some more excitement and didn't have this much until you came along." said Darcy trying to lighten the mood and to make some light shine through the darkness "Even if you haven't done the big reveal, that doesn't mean that you can't start your relationship again as Mysto and maybe when the time is right then you can tell Thor that you are Mysto and repair that broken relationship that you have left off."
"There's no point Darcy, even if I did tell Thor then he will not only be really angry that he probably won't leave us alone until he calms down." said Loki "Not too mention, Thanos already knows about you and if Thor ever finds out then he'll use the both of you against me in any means necessary. He'll just do it to get to me and I don't know how I would live with myself if I not only let my mother die because of me, but my brother and friend as well. Especially living with the fact that everything was my fault to begin with and this wouldn't be happening if I-" Before Loki could continue on, the next thing that he knew was that... Darcy just threw her arms right over him and began to hug him. That immiediatly caught Loki by surprise and he didn't even know what to do at that very moment and was grateful that his arms were out of Darcy's grasp. So that way he can find a way to escape without hurting her if it was absolutely necessary.
"It's going to be ok, Loki. Even though things may not seem like that right now, but it will be ok and will turn out all right in the end. I promise." said Darcy reassuring and even began to rub his back comfortly.
Loki didn't know what to do because he never had anyone that was able to listen to him and give him the comfort that he may need. The only ones that was willing to listen and give him the same comfort was Thor and his mother, Frigga. They were able to listen, something that neither Odin, Sif or the Warrior Three was able to do or it result the later two to mock him. Loki does not know what to make of this or what to say, but for now all he could was hug her back. Loki does not know why he now cares that much for Darcy and why she considers him as a friend. For now, he was glad that he had someone like her by his side. They continued to hug like this for quite a while until...
"Well I did not see that coming." said a very familiar male voice and with that the two of them turned around and saw both Wanda and Pietro starring at both them hugging. That made the two immediately break away from the hug and turned their focus back on the Ultron situation.
"So did you two find anything?" asked Darcy almost immediately and awkwardly "Did Ultron revealed anything important that we should know about?" Both of the twins exchanged a knowing glance, believing that the two of them were more than just friends and they continued to focus at the two before they turned their attention back to the situation at hand.
"Ultron destroyed the scepter and put some kind gem into his machinery." Said Wanda "We believe that it could be the energy source could be the gem that he put into that monstrosity that he is making."
"Well at least we know that he destroyed the scepter and if this invention of his is really so dangerous then it would wiped out the planet before we could even try to save it." Said Loki "I think it might be best if we take the invention and later destroy it. But before we do anything of the sort, we'll have to remove the stone from it first and then I will pick it up and put it with the other stones and then we'll destroy it before anything else happens."
"That's pretty much our goal." pointed out Pietro "What is the plan to even get to his machine and maybe even stop Ultron altogether." The two immiediatly noticed how awkward both of them were, that Loki who was always so calm and collected is having trouble keeping his posture together after being seen by both of the twins hugging. He's trying so hard to regain his focus and to make sure that they still see that he's seen as a strong minded individual who doesn't get distracted by social relationships or any petty excuse that he may be the last person in the whole universe that would fall under that category.
"Well I think it might be best if Wanda sneaks into the truck and once it begins to move then she use her magic to break the door open, afterwards you can race up to help Wanda get the machinery out of the truck." said Loki trying hard to explain his plan and try to break out of his awkward state and regain some of his composure "Darcy will borrow one of these Midgaurd vehicles to drive me close enough to stop Ultron in his place." To his surprise, he managed to come up with a good plan that could work despite his unexpected distraction, but there was still one missing piece of the puzzle that Loki still have yet to answer.
"How do I know when to break open the door?" asked Wanda the most obvious question "Plus you do also realize that there is more than one droid right?" That made Loki quickly think of something that could make up for him accidentally forgetting a crucial part of the plan.
"I was thinking that once the vehicle begins to move and Darcy begins to drive the one that we will be in and then when the moment is right then I will break open it's door and destroy Ultron or at least catch his attention to come right at us so we can lure him right to us." said Loki briefly "Now we all should get to our places or else we are going to be stuck here watching them leave without any plan of attack working." With that he began to head over to the headquarters, trying to set his plan to action and to try to regain the dignity that he just lost and trying to keep up with the plan before they let Ultron continue on his evil scheme. Darcy began to quickly follow Loki, but stopped for a brief moment when she realize that they were not following her. Darcy quickly turned around and before she said anything, Wanda already has something to say about the two and it something that was going to surprise Darcy.
"Are you two together?' asked Wanda "Since you and Loki seem to be really close and I feel like that closeness is going to someday end up more than friends." For some reason it made Darcy feel really awkward and more upfront about being asked about her relationship with Loki and she was hoping that she would magically disappear when they asked. But all of the sudden became really defensive and awkward at the same time.
"What?! No way we're not together and we're just friends that's all." said Darcy almost immediately "He's not my boyfriend or anything, Loki's just a guy who happens to be my friend who also happens to be a guy that's all." But from that explanation it made both of them still unconvinced that could entirely be the answer. Darcy then realize that she's probley not going to be able to answer this without a huge argument in the end. Before Darcy could say another word on the subject...
"Can we get a move on? I do not want to continue risking my live voluntarily no longer than I have to." called out Loki from the front of the three of them "We are not going to stop anyone if we're just standing here chatting and it most defiantly not going to help us retrieve this machinery, destroy it and take the stone." At that moment, Darcy was really grateful that Loki was more focused on getting the stones so he won't have to play Mysto anymore. Since it did save her from this really awkward conversation that she would give anything to get out of in anyway she could possibly can.
"Well you guys heard him, let's get going." said Darcy. With that she began to follow Loki as fast as she could possibly could. With both Wanda and Pietro sharing a knowing glance that it's really more than friendship between the two. But knowing that they need to focus on their mission and they have to stop Ultron before it's too late and he does more than send a couple of his minions to go after innocent people and help make Thanos's job easier when it comes to destroying the world rather than saving it especially on Earth. But that doesn't mean that they can't continue to focus on finding out what's going on between the two and help them in anyway they can.
A Half an hour later
Both Pietro and Wanda got into position and got ready to do Loki's brief and not so well thought out plan. Meanwhile Darcy manages to rent a car from a nearby rental car place that was willing to let them rent a car despite it being a really busy day with a ton of people wanting a car to drive around the city that day and Darcy drove as fast as she could back to Ultron's lair. But due to traffic and the fact that they were also on the highway and they need to keep their eyes out in case Ultron decides to do his deliveries earlier then he originally planned and make their jobs so much harder and they have to fast track their plan. But before Darcy could realize what's going on, both of them notice a familiar truck passing by and then notices some blur of a person running after it. They didn't need to say anything to figure what might be going on. Almost immediatly Darcy quickly make a U turn and began to chase after the truck and Quicksilver. Darcy was speeding the car as fast as she could, it was so fast that Loki was even worried that they might crash into something or Darcy might accidentally drive them off the road. But fortunately for both of their sakes, they didn't have to worry about it and managed to catch up with the truck and was able to do so without crashing into anything or accidentally running over Pietro. Once they made it, Darcy tried to keep the car steady and from one look, she could tell that one of the Ultron droids were driving it and doesn't seem to be aware of what's going on.
"Well I guess this is the part where you try to get out of this car to escape in order to get to the truck like if this was an action movie." said Darcy as she was trying to keep it steady "I hope that you are ready for this because not only this is dangerous, but it's also really something I'd probley wouldn't recommend anyone to do unless they are absolutely crazy, Asgardian/Frost giant or not. So are you sure that this is a good idea?" Once Darcy said that, Loki then realize that this must be the most stupidist thing that he will ever do in his life and would have rather just stayed in the Dark World if he knew that he was possibly going to die again for real. Loki just wished that instead of letting his emotions take control and make him think of a very horrible and dangerous that it might not even work and could get the four of them severely injured or worse killed.
"I honestly think that this is the worse idea that I ever had in my entire life." said Loki "Well it's too late to change it right now, I have to do this." With that he gave a gulp and opened the car door slowly. Once it was open enough for him to get out of the car and to at least try to climb onto the truck. Then Loki began to carefully stand up and reached for the handle of the truck and then begin to step on the steps of the truck. Darcy began to worry about her roommate and even began to think that she should have said something about this plan before Loki even considered doing this and wondered if they should have spend more time developing this plan before they even try to initialize it. But fortunatly to both of their surprise, Loki was able to have a strong hold of the door handle and was able to make a punch through the window and to grab the Ultron drone and then quickly beat it up. Once Loki was able to do so then he move away from the door to the right. He quickly opened the door and hopped right in.
Fortunately things were going great and according to Loki's not so perfect and well thought out plan. But there's also one detail that Loki didn't looked at and is really important for him to even consider. He was in a truck and he doesn't know how to drive it! Despite the fact that they have to worry about having to stop a truck that Loki's behind the wheel. But he figured that maybe it wouldn't be so different from a space ship right? Even though Loki could keep it steady for a little while, there's still a major problem that they have to worry about and that is how he could safely stop the truck without getting both someone on the highway or anyone of the four hurt or worse killed ( even though the chances for Loki to get killed is rather small, they still have to worry about saving themselves along with whoever else that may be out in the road that probley didn't expect an Asgardian/Frost giant that has never had any driving experience to be on the road.
Luckilly Darcy manages to notice that Loki is having trouble on the road and knew that she needs to somehow get into that truck without getting herself killed and try to help him in anyway she can possibly can. So she quickly spotted Pietro and quickly try to make some kind of indication that she needs someone to take the wheel. But he couldn't see because he raced over to the back of the truck to try to help his sister, leaving Darcy still having to get on the truck and take the wheel before something happens and she have to pay for more damages that hurted more rather than help everyone. Though it doesn't look like if Darcy have that much of a choice on the matter.
So she slowly try to get on the truck without getting herself killed in the process. It was a struggle as Darcy originally anticipated and she now starting to think that this must be one of the craziest and worst decisions that she has ever made in her entire life. Plus Darcy doesn't even blame Loki if he gives her a "What were you thinking and don't you know that you could have gotten yourself killed?" speech. Along with maybe not letting her live this down until this whole Infinity stone chase that is as crazy as it sounds. But for now her main focus is to try to get on that truck without loosing her grip and getting herself killed. Fortunately Loki noticed what was going on and tries to help her by opening the door of the truck. Once Darcy has the door opened then she tried to climb on to the truck and managed to do so successfully. Once she was doing it, Loki made some space and moved away from the driver's seat in order to make some room for Darcy. Once he got to the other seat, he tries his best to help Darcy on the truck and fortunately Darcy managed to get on to the truck without even breaking a bone. They both gave a sigh relief as Darcy took the wheel and both were entirely speechless of what just occurred right now. Once they had a moment to actually breath, Loki began the conversation.
"You do know that what you just did was extremely dangerous and-" began Loki before he was entirely cut off by Darcy completely.
"Yeah I know what I just did was dangerous." said Darcy annoyed and did not want a lecture because she not only knew, but they had bigger fish to fry "But let's just agree to never ever speak of this again!"
"Well as your friend, I believe this isn't something that we should just let this go the first moment of when the situation itself has ended." said Loki with the indication that he's not going to let this go.
"But we don't have to focus on this like right now." pointed out Darcy "Especially now that we're in the middle of trying to take back the Infinity stone in this thing and there are probley a ton of Ultron droids probley going to chase after us or something." Before Loki could come up with another excuse why he's not going to let this go, he noticed something in the rear view mirror. He noticed that there's a mortercycle that was trying to get in the truck. Loki try to take a careful look of who was driving the motorcycle, then he realize that it was a woman with red hair and after quickly putting two and two together, Loki realized who it must have been.
"I think we have bigger problems to worry about than your act of recklessness, which we will continue upon discussing later." said Loki hastily "Since right now I believe that the Avengers might be here to save the day." With that Darcy looked through the mirror and saw that it was Black widow trying to get into the truck.
"Now this is cool!" said Darcy excitedly "We are about to team up with the Avengers and possibly going to stop a huge evil villain with them. I don't know how today could possibly get better."
"Maybe if we didn't have to deal with the Avengers once they realize how much we tried to help take care of that Ultron monstrostity it would have been better." said Loki "In case you have forgotten, I am currently on the run and my own brother believes that I have recently passed on. I wouldn't be surprise that all of the Avengers now know of my sudden demise."
"In case you have forgotten, you're not Loki right now. You are Mysto; a soon to be great hero that is now willing to do anything if it means that everyone and the entire universe will be safe and ready to defeat the bad guys no matter what the cost may be." said Darcy "Even though they may not believe our story until Thor backs us up because he knows us or if they ever do find out who you are or if Thanos comes along and ruin things for you then I just want to let you know that I have your back. I'm not going to just sit back and see you in trouble when you really need my help then makes things a hundred times worse." That immediately made Loki surprised, he never knew someone as loyal as Darcy and now beginning to see why Thor is good friends with Darcy. Since everything about Darcy is so admirable and she wasn't some annoying overexcited girl that he originally assumed she was.
"Aw... thank you I believe is the correct term of gratitude." said Loki briefly as he remain focus on the road and try to figure out two things. One is how to avoid the Avengers and two is to try to figure out why he's feeling some confusing feelings towards Darcy. Since it was confusing and he never felt that way towards anyone ever before in his entire life and Loki doesn't know if he wants to continue feeling this feeling or try to find a way to get rid of it before it drives him insane. Fortunaly Darcy took charge of the situation and she knew what to do and say when it comes to dealing with the Ultron droids and the fact that they might possibly meet up with the Avengers.
"Well now that we got the whole, we're good friends and we'll be there for each other no matter what." said Darcy "But right now we need to focus on trying to get that Infinty stone, defeating Ultron before he gets his wired invention thing and keeping up with your secret identity without everything getting really awkward." With that Darcy began to try to out maneuver Black Widow from getting into the truck as Wanda focuses on trying to get Ultron's secret weapon out of the truck without hurting anyone and someone sees it and tries to take it back from them. It may be a huge challenge at the moment, but the two of them are determined to succeed and they need to think of something quick before they loose control of the truck because it was almost out of gas and they later loose control and they drive it off the highway. But other then that they still have a chance on winning, but at the moment they are unsure how this will end if it's even going to end well. But it's hard to tell at the moment, but that won't stop them from trying to do everything in their power to make sure that they will succeed no matter what could happen to them or the consequences they might later face.
The wait is finally over! Well until the next chapter comes out and there's a huge delay that neither of us expect or wanted. There are two things that I want to address. For starters, I want to apologies yet again for another delay and due to being really busy and having two other fanfics that I have still yet to update. Plus it also doesn't help that I was trying to figure out how to end this chapter without a cliffhanger to eventually knowing that I had to. Since I didn't want to make it unresolved in case there is another delay and it is practically impossible to do so if your trying to add Loki and Darcy to Age Of Ultron that could potentially cause a change of events to both the arc and the main storyline. But that's no excuse and I am still committed to this story and will continue it no matter what delays may later occur. But the second thing that I feel like I need to address is the major elephant in the room, which is not other than Infinity war. If any of you still haven't seen the movie then I suggest that you skip the next paragraph if you want to avoid any spoilers. Since I am going to mention a couple of things that happened in the movie that could either annoy you or disappoint you like it did to me. Ok I'm going to start don't say that I didn't war you
No I haven't seen the movie, but I have heard what happened and read the spoilers that it made me not want to see the movie because I do not think I like the idea of watching almost everyone especially some of my favorites die. I even tried to watch some clips that got filmed or leaked online but from even watching them. I don't think that I could sit in a dark theater and watch Thanos walking around ruining all of these characters lives or see them fade from existence. I know that Avengers 4 is coming out next year and that everyone will be brought back in someway especially with a couple of conformed and rumored sequels and movies coming out and it's completely fictional. But it doesn't make things easier and changes the facts, plus do I really need to get started on Loki and Gamora. Since from just thinking about it makes me feel uncomfortable to the point that I am pretending that it was bad fan fiction and they all lived happily ever after and they defeated Thanos once and for all. I'm sorry if I offended anyone that liked the movie and I am just happy to know that there's people out there that like something that I couldn't. But the point that I am trying to make is that none of the things that happened in Infiinty war will happen in Redemption. One thing I will say is that Loki is going to live and survive whatever wrath Thanos may have in store. I'm not going to kill off my favorite Marvel character of all time in my fanfic, in fact I never even thought about it until now. But you can imagine how against I am with the idea and I defiantly do not want to think such a thing again. I'm not promising that everyone will be completely safe, but there will be some that will get exactly what they deserve that I see fit...
But before I close this, I am still going to need all of your help. Due to the fact that I haven't seen Infinity war, one of the main concerns is trying to get Thanos in character. Sure this could be a golden opportuninty to make Thanos look like a clown after what he did in Infinty war. In a perfect world I would do that, but as a Marvel fan and an aspiring author I need to make him stay in character and make sure that I do this right. So if you all have any ideas on how to do that or have a favorite scene from the movie that does not involve Thanos killing any marvel character (especially Gamora or Loki) and showing his true character. Then you are more than welcome to comment or pm me with any of your ideas and I will make them work somehow.
I would like to apologize again for the delay and I am defiantly going to try to make the next update and put it up as soon as I can possibly can. So will they escape the Ultron droids? Will they get the secret weapon that Ultron made and get away with it? Will they meet up with the Avengers? Will Loki pull off his new Mysto persona without anyone suspecting a thing? It wouldn't exactly surprise me if he manages to do so successfully. But anyway you will find out what happens next in the next update. See ya in the next update :).
