Chapter 59- Specks of Silver and Gray
Luna woke up with a big grin shimmering upon her face.
Today is the day. That grand day inside her calendar that was filled with doodles, hearts and exclamation points. She misses him. Oh dear Merlin's beard and all his silky robes, she misses him so badly she could possibly rip the Ravenclaw table out of desperation.
She misses him so badly she's afraid she will jump right at him on the spot and snog away the times they've missed and longed for each other.
She brought her fingertips on her lips, a smile formed itself automatically. Yes, definitely going to snog the desperation away.
"Well, someone's overly excited this early morning" Blaise teased her, his deep brown eyes sparkling with mischief and secret knowledge. Upon Luna's line of vision, Ginny was grinning from ear to ear, her own brown orbs communicating with her lover's.
"Ofcourse she is! She even probably has her knickers on a twist!"
Luna paid no mind with the sneakiness of her friends. She grew used to their antics-always watching them scheme for new ideas regarding pranks or extreme Quidditch tricks. Even though she is not much of a fan of the said sport, she loves listening to the two of her friends talk and do what they love best. She can clearly see how Ginny finally found her own match. Their feisty and romantic nature boil happiness to the redhead's life, and Luna couldn't be more happy for her.
Sighing dreamily, her own heart swells, thanking the Heavens for how everything turned out.
In the end, all was worth it.
The owls sweep through the open surfaces of the tall walls, each of them crisscrossing the other. Upon Luna's finished plate fell a package. Seemingly alarmed, she angled her face to the creature and was thrown aback because she has not seen it before, not even in the owlery when she sometimes visit her own.
"Are you certain?" the owl narrowed it's eyes on her, as if insulted by her harmless question. "Ofcourse you are, thank you"
When all of their flying friends have finally left, Luna tore the outer wrap of the package, her eyes never leaving the unfolding silver wrapper underneath. Her heart didn't cease to stop, she immediately thought it was from Draco, with all the elegant wrappings and silvery stuff, it was no doubt, from him.
And yes, it was. As she tore the remaining barrier between the package and the wrappings, upon the middle was a card with five words written upon it.
'Wear this later. DM'
"Masks, sultry pumps and a shimmery pretty dress? Well, someone is certainly going to be busy tonight" Luna blushed with Ginny's vulgar tongue. With her commentary, she is then reminded that she is now just a few hours away from Draco. Just a small distance of time and she will be reunited with her little family. She hopes and believes that this time, there is no Azkaban, or war, or even Voldemort to separate them.
"It would be a long night, wouldn't it Ginny?"
Luna gasps as she stares at her reflection infront of her mirror. The long shimmering skirt of her dress shines in all it's silvery glory, popping the blue hue of her wide set of eyes. If one should look closely, her pale skin almost blends in with the gray flowery laces upon her chest and torso, dipping elegantly down to the valleys of her spine, the skin of her back covered with a transparent net that binds the arching lace. She was beautiful, like a swan moving with sophisticated grace underneath the soft moonlight.
Her hand went up to the space between her collarbones, reaching for a pendant she no longer has. Draco's gift could have been perfect with it, yet, due to the destruction the war had caused, it vanished. Much like the crashed plants her and her father worked hard to sustain for. Her poor father, off alone to tend the half wrecked house.
Despite the sad aftermath of the war and the tear that almost fall, she found herself smiling. The pain is a reminder that they are still breathing, a promise that says they could overcome such big leap. That they're alive. They're going to rise from these.
Shrugging her thoughts, she held all the tresses of her hair and piled them to the crown of her head, arranging it to a bun with a flick of her wand- whilst leaving thin strands to crown the sides of her face.
"Luna, he's here"
Puffing a huge intake of exhale, she bunches the long silk of her dress, eager to leave the dorm that made her long for the family she left behind.
'He's here'
Thomas stood at the archway of the castle's gate, his golden shoes shimmering, reflecting to the shiny space of his smooth forehead. What pushed him to wear such constricted and bright clothing, he does not know. Yet, maybe that was the Malfoy influence, plus his own love with prestige rubbing on him. He simply loves being the center of attraction.
Thanks to the Malfoys, they help the whole wizardling world see the talent he has. They gave him the biggest break of his life and he will always treasure that.
From dresses then to decors, name them and he would design your dreams to reality. He designed all of the Malfoys extravagant robes and gowns. He is the well known element and the walking art of all the masterpieces of their parties.
He have watched them all move and live with such grace and power, every pureblood would want to associate with them. If there is one word he could describe them, it would definitely be 'flawless'. Especially Narcissa Malfoy, bless her heart.
Therefor, he is certain their son would follow lead with the legacy of having a sophisticated woman to be partnered with him. He just hopes it would be like darling Narcissa, who is charming and kinder than expected.
"She's here Mr. Greener sir" the elf popped up with a yellow trunk with him, signaling the arrival of a certain Ms. Lovegood.
With a heartbeat and silent thumps of heels he did not hear, the girl appeared right behind him. He had already gathered information with how she might be like, but he did not expect that much of a surprise. Well, far from what he is currently encountering atleast.
"Oh Darling, it is so nice to finally meet you! Oh dear Merlin's beard, you look ravishing! Oh that fits you oh so well, perfect! Simply splendid! " he engulfed her to a hug, his eyes not showing the surprise he felt.
She is different.. Way past the trained pureblooded witches he knew people speculate to have the Malfoy heir end up with. Her delicate chaste face looks at him with curiosity and beauty only nature could provide. Clearly, this woman infront of him is not one for heavy jewelry or imported silks, they're itchy upon her sun kissed pale skin.
And at once he understood why Draco wanted him to design her a dress simpler than the usual- yet still elegant and eye catching.
"It is so nice to meet you too sir. Do pardon me, but I missed your name. The evuwompus must've infected me somehow" Her voice was light and close to being a whisper from one's dream. She held one finger up to her lower lip, considering the creatures he has never heard before. The innocence radiating from her was effortless, seemingly natural with her wide eyes. Perhaps she is.
Perhaps that is her charm.
Ah, to be young and innocent.
But then, those are not the things he should describe her. Life and war affected the girl. More so when she suffered much. She is not naive, not even barely at all. She is far from young, for age is not the measurement of how old one's thoughts are. To overcome life's battles with having such child like innocence is her wisdom.
She is special. A wallflower who chose to live her life the way she wants to.
"Thomas Greener at your service, darling. Do not worry, I've been sent to apparate you home"
"Have you met Lucius and Narcissa?" He asked, out of curiosity.
They were strolling to the hills of St. Ottery Catchpole, the girl completely unaware of the gift waiting for her in the manor.
"I first met Lucius in the Ministry of Magic, we were dueling and he cut my lip. Then, I met Narcissa when I was imprisoned in their manor, she made sure we were being fed right. She was really really brave and motherly, she reminds me of my Mum sometimes. Many have said I truly lost it when they found out I am inlove with Draco, or with a self righteous Malfoy as they deem him, especially their family, but I don't know, I cannot despise them- just because they are constantly judging us doesn't mean I have to judge back-"
There was a dreamy smile plastered almost permanently upon her face. She talked about her imprisonment as if it was just a long stroll that she took a week ago.
"-But all is well in the end. We are happy and safe, that is what matters. I've always knew, deep down, despite their arrogance and association with Tom Riddle, they only wanted to guard Draco's safety and I admire them for that. Afterall, they are both nothing but tremendously kind to me, especially to Clementine" She was right. He could not deny that the family he has been serving for are not that easy to cope with. But somehow, in someway, with a clean heart and open mind, you could meet them halfway.
"Ah, Malfoys! They may look distrusting but you and I both know they value loyalty. I am positive that the young Malfoy will always protect you. He will always have your back" She was perfect, unorthodoxly. He felt her tone rise and fall calmly, as if she does not blame them for the atrocious past she had experienced in their cellar. She, with the heart and grace, is the embodiment forgiveness and redemption the Malfoys have luckily been blessed with. She may not be the exact pureblooded witch the Malfoy ancestors would want to have, but she is more of a witch than all of them combined.
Draco Malfoy really is a surprise, he always strive to be the headlines don't he?
"It is sublime, isn't it? how two separate paths meet halfway no matter how far they are from each other. At some point, the constellations would always make way for the dragon and the moon to reunite"
Luna looked at her right then to her left. Although she was sure the directions were not the path to the Malfoy Manor, she lets the man guide her, putting her trust to him as she feels like she could. This was the man Draco entrusted with her safety, so she might as well do too. She has a lot of faith in her system for Draco Malfoy.
"Do not fret, not all those who wander are lost, remember Ms Lovegood?" the man next to him raised his red lips, showing her a bemused smile filled with wonder and secrecy.
"Where are we?"
"Home" he said, opening the silver gate from an estate she was not familiar of.
"Home? Where are we exactly? Where is Draco? Clementine? Lucius, Narcissa?" The pathway to the manor was short, but it was such a marvelous sight to behold. Sycamore trees were lined, cut even with sprouting green and yellow leaves. The grass underneath was surrounded with different colors of different kinds of little flowers, fragile yet so beautiful.
Tipping her head, she was even more mesmerized by the beauty of the manor itself. It was not as huge as the manor the Malfoy has, even more so when it could be only a half of it, yet, it was big enough to have almost fifteen people live in it. For her, it looked like a castle, ones that she always thought the muggle princesses have.
"Where is exactly your darling dragon, moon goddess?"
As if it was the signal, Thomas climbed the marble staircase, his hand opening the two large pale doors of the manor. Immediately, the sound of a classical piano piece bombard her ears, witches and wizards with masks beneath their noses looked at them with red lips stretching into a grin.
"Just follow the pathway given by the lights and you'll do just fine. Now, I'll see you later Ms. Lovegood" Thomas waved his wand to a circular motion upon her face, immediately, the silver and gray mask Draco gave her appeared beneath her nose. When he saw that his service was temporarily done, he apparated out of sight, leaving her alone at the entrance of the ball.
The inside was painted pale yellow as well, but was much more homely and smaller than Malfoy Manor.
She passed the hallway, nodding a few hellos to the people who seem to know and greet her. Inside the arch, she guesses it was a dance floor, for the music seemed to have came from there.
Once arriving the room, she spots a certain red haired witch who looked all too familiar coming to her way.
"Ginny where are we? What are we doing here?" Her bestfriend took her inside her arms and giggled knowingly. They waltzed a few steps afar from the archway, moving vertically to the dance floor "He is filled of symbolisms, isn't he? That Thomas Greener"
But before she could comprehend what Ginny is babbling about, her bestfriend lets go of her and turned to dance with the man next to them.
"Ginny I-"
"Love is such a mysterious, powerful reason. One must face giant barriers, dwell into labyrinths, and get lost in order to just be found. But in the end, it is all worth it isn't it?" She was then passed to a witch with wavy chestnut hair.
"Hermione?"
"You'll do well Luna" the music rises to a high note, the masked witches and wizards crisscrossed to find new partners to dance with. Unfortunately, Hermione was one of them. Luna stood at the center like an unmoving pillar, stuck with not knowing what to do. Everybody seemed to know their roles except her.
"Adjust your focus" One of the moving wizards, which she guesses was Blaise, whisper through the spun of chaos.
She spun around, only to find a wizard she does not know.
"Look a little closer" Again, another voice lingered behind her, this time, it belonged perhaps a little too close with Pansy's.
Frustration bubbled up inside her. Moving silks and faces pass her by like a blur. She could not focus, the music was too loud and the room was too crowded. Merlin knows how much Draco and her hate crowded places-
"Draco" she pushed herself to fit right to the space between one dancing wizard and one dancing witch. Just a meter away came a silhouette with light hair and dark green suit. She knows too well who that might be.
"Closer Luna" she was startled as Harry's voice whispered to her. "Harry, Draco's over-" The next was a blur. Bodies of gowns and suits mingled and swayed, pulling her in the rush of energy and waltz.
"Excuse me, excuse me" she climbed her way out, only to find out Draco was no longer standing a meter away.
"Where is exactly your darling dragon, moon goddess?" Thomas Greener's voice echoed inside her head, she wishes she knew what is happening, but she feels as if she is the one being trapped instead.
She halted and took her heels off of her feet. She could not possibly do well in a run and chase if she keeps falling off don't she?
Draco's silhouette passed through the crowd and entered another room, which she eagerly followed. Inside it was a human free kitchen. She sighed for the relief of getting out from the crowd and for the thrill of the adventure Draco is leading her to.
Leaning onto a counter, she placed her heels upon it. Inside her heels, one of them has a message written upon it. She lit up a lumos and read the message out loud. At once, as soon as she read the inscriptive in it, the golden letters vanished and a small bottle went flying to where she is.
Catching it with her hand, it also has a message upon her clasp that says:
Drink Me
Luna smiled at the creativity her lover did. She once told him about a muggle book and film she saw as a child called Alice in Wonderland, and she knew that was the reason behind this sorcery.
The sweet liquid pour down her throat, enveloping her to an unexplainable warmth. Slowly, her form decreases, the tables, utensils, her heels and the whole kitchen enlarged around her-or she just unceremoniously shrunk.
There was a rush of hot air around her, making her hair and dress-which thank the Heavens, did shrunk too, wave around like a hurricane. Soon, the cause of such air stood infront of her with the figure of a moving stuffed toy.
"Hello there Nargle, I have missed you too!" the hand made creature bowed down to her, purring as she scratches it's rabbit ear. "Now where shall we go?"
Upon her question, the toy inched just for her to climb upon their back without difficulty. As the sun was about set, so did the enchanted toy began to move.
Luna laid upon it's fur, closing her eyes as she inhales the scent of Clementine and Draco's essence upon them. Soon, she found herself smiling, the warm joy circulating around her heart like halo.
"Look at you Nargle!" the toy jumped and float upon the ground. Luna held firmly upon it's fur, grasping upon it as she watches the ceiling go by. She had always wanted to learn how to fly, yet her dreams were crashed when she found out brooms and her weren't much of a match destined to go together.
But if she ever ponder what it might feel like to navigate and fly so freely, she guesses she already have felt it numerous of times now.
Draco makes her feel so cut off breath in the nicest way as possible. As if she floats around upon waters, only that it is being replaced with air, gravity and emotions. Being with him makes her feel free. Even if the whole world might've gotten used to falling, she will never get tired of flying.
The ceiling was being replaced with a soft dark blue light. The harsh run of the toy suddenly stopped midway to the air, falling slowly like a paper swaying back and forth down to the safety of the ground. For her, she felt like a fallen leaf herself. Breakable, human, finite. There is nothing permanent in life, yet that is the beauty of it. Even for just a small period of time, those worth remembering are worth fussing over. Those short spun of time up in the air; at peace, calm, joyous, tranquil are the ones people should remember when that fall comes. The worthwhile moments people would watch for their last sight of this earth.
The stuffed toy halted and it's rising and falling chest stopped responding. It's mission was over.
Looking back and forth, Luna only sees high green shrubs and dirty brown ground. She lurks around the wide canvas of dirty brown, whisking shiny silvers upon the dark earth.
Underneath the Nargles' beak was a necklace with a red bean hanging strapped onto it. She grabbed the large sweet and bit onto it without hesitation.
The bean leaves minty trail in her throat. Once, twice, she lets out harsh coughs, the mint leaving a harsh burning sensation. She thrashes wildly, trying to ease the tension inside her system, whatever it is, it is irritating her whole body.
Her body grows back again, but the silver around her skirt jumps out from their confines. The specks of light floats around her- staying, waiting for her to stop her coughing fit.
The fiery sensation stopped all at once, leaving her standing upon the dark brown ground with bare feet and a shorter dress. The specks moved at her side, dancing to one another as they group themselves into blue hues.
'"Hullo, you must be Draco, you are quite famous" ' the blue specks morphed her form, looking back at her as she heard her younger voice speak.
She felt confusion, curiosity, anger and irritation inside her system. Which ever those came from, she did not know.
"Who are you to call me by my first name? Are you one of them? These bloody hormonal stalkers, getting creepier each day!" Suddenly, Draco's voice echoed out of nowhere, but she was certain it came from where she is standing.
"Well, I must be going now Draco. Oh, and it's Luna by the way. Some call me Loony- funny, they seem to always mistake the 'a' to a 'y'but that's alright, it must be the wrackspurts right? Anyway goodbye now!"
She felt confusion, amusement, intrigue and humor inside her system. The anger evaporated as her blue misty version hang a cork necklace around her neck.
Immediately, the blue version of herself turned and ran to the opened hedge of the maze. Speculating what was happening, she then realize the emotions she has been feeling were from Draco's perspective.
'Perhaps, Loon with a 'y' isn't that bad. She's a lot smarter and mature-in some parts, compare to the others'
She followed the mists' trail, seeing herself in her Ravenclaw uniform, kneeling outside the second floor loo.
"Hullo there Draco!" Luna blushed scarlet with the emotions Draco had been experience at that exact moment.
"Have you been crying?" Her blue mist leaned upon her, it's hand lingering upon her skin. Her heart thump extremely fast and the skin where she once touched Draco was burning with realization and something she cannot-or rather, he cannot name.
She remembered that exact moment when her fingers connected with his skin. She felt that rush of emotion she cannot also name. The rush of gravity between two people slowly inching closer and closer to one another.
It was the first act how fate approved the group of Slytherins' bet
'Nothing. This is nothing'
The next swerve from the labyrinth of a maze, the mist version of herself was hugging an invisible Draco. "Draco, your heart is infected with wrackspurts. It beats too fast than how it normally should" her muffled voice came from the confines of Draco's chest. The real Luna gasps as a pang of deep realization came across her.
In that moment, she understood the sentence he had answered her with. He wasn't actually talking about the creature, he was talking about her. That was the moment he found out he was actually inlove with her. That was the moment he wanted everything to be real.
'Merlin's beard, I think-no. You can't Malfoy!'
The next scene felt heavy, too heavy her heart felt like it could be possibly ripped apart.
"Just stay away from me" her crying face looked at her with accusation, disappointment, blankness and unfamiliarity.
Luna felt a tear fall from her eye. Her heart ached for what Draco had felt. Sure, he hurt her real bad but then, she remembers loving him still, more so even more now. To feel him suffer like this, especially because of her own doing, hurt her heart.
'Luna, please'
"I'm yours, I'm yours Draco"
"I love you Luna Lovegood"
She watches herself asleep, naked, vulnerable with a small smile upon her face.
That was the time when he left her wondering if he does love her. She spent waiting, asking for answers she knew he was the only one who could answer. That time, she felt her heart crash into pieces. To see him so lost, his eyes full of fear he cannot leave from. She cried for them, for the fate they did not had any control over.
'Luna, I'm sorry. I love you, I'm sorry'
"Why? What happen to her? Luna? Luna!"
'Can you hear me love? Please-Please don't-"
"Hi there mini Draco and Luna, I'm your daddy"
'I will always try to keep you safe. Even if it was from me'
"You don't deserve these. I don't deserve you"
'Luna, what have I done? Oh Merlin, what have I made you become?'
"Clementine. Clementine Larissa Lovegood Malfoy"
"Draco, she had your eyes"
"Did I hurt her?"
"No, nonsense Draco"
'As long as you're still alive, you have a chance'
"Please Draco, I don't want to lose the both of you"
"Promise me you won't die on me"
'I won't. I promise'
"No, Draco! Draco! Expecto- Expecto Patro-"
'Please watch over her. Please, please keep her safe. Oh please watch over them for me'
'Luna-'
"And this-This woman is driving me mad! Why do I have to hurt her so much? I don't deserve her do I? I can't-I can't remember!"
"But she loves you despite the dark mark. She loves you despite your arrogant, narcissistic, vain crap. She is your morphine. She is your shelter. You never reveal anything to anyone besides your mask if indifference, yet... well, believe me Draco, she sees way past that. She knows you too well, and yet she stayed. She accepted you and have gotten to know you more easily than we, your friends have"
'My morphine? My shelter? Luna.. Loony? Loony Lovegood? Luna with an a, you idiot!'
"Did you missed me?"
"You're beautiful"
'Luna Lovegood-
"Thank you, thank you, thank you"
-I love you'
Luna's heart swelled up, tugging with so much appreciation for the Heavens for blessing her a man like Draco Malfoy. She has always known he would love her. Even for the very first time his eyes met hers, she knew he already did, he just haven't realize it yet. There was something inside his eyes, much like a lost universe that looked a lot like hers. The familiarity had always been there, a reincarnation of an unfinished love story of a medieval star-crossed lovers.
The mists break into tiny specks, floating above her head as they made her venture to a new venue. Luna ran with them, her legs bear and feet clumsy with nerves. She turns to rights and lefts, the specks shining with blue dazzles. As they grow nearer, the tiny sparkles disappear one by one. Luna continued to follow their directions, until only one of them exists. As it stood floating still to one particular spot, Luna found herself staring face to face into a dead end. The hedges no longer have any turns to accelerate forward, it only faces a curving edge.
Luna bobs her head up to the sky, on where it has fully consumed the sun and moved the clouds for the moon to appear. It was evening then, and she no longer looked like the sophisticated pureblood she saw right infront of her vanity that morning.
She was sweating all over and her once long and wrinkle free dress turned into a cocktail one with smudges of soil and adventure.
"Oh, I'm lost aren't I?" she laughs tiredly. Despite the clumpy feeling, she was happy and proud of Draco's efforts.
"Nonsense child! How could the moon lost it's way?" Thomas Greener apparated infront of her, his lips smiling and poise straight and confident.
"You're talking symbolistic again Thomas"
Instead of replying, he again apparated from his place.
"Where is exactly your darling dragon, moon goddess?"
Luna sits upon the ground, her eyes focusing to the strands of her messy bun
"Now if I were Thomas Greener, what would I want to say?"
'Symbolism, moon? dragon? path?
Close, look. Closer, adjust a little bit.
Light, pathway. Night?
moon, dragon. Luna, Draco?
Luna bobbed her head upon the sky, looking at the moon surrounded with dazzling stars.
'Closer Luna'
She squinted her eyes as if she could see the answers if she does so. The moon was shining, mocking her as if-
Seemingly seeing the answers, she stood up, turning around to face the hedge once more.
'Follow the pathway of the lights'
The constellations were spread next to the moon, making a bee line up across the hedge that was a dead end. She hesitantly came closer, her hand was raised to touch the intertwined ivies
Slowly, as her fingertips were about to make connection with the ivies, they untie themselves from each other, clearing a path Draco have obviously schemed for her to solve.
Behind the entrance, Luna saw Draco and Clementine staring at her, waiting for her to emerge from the archway. Immediately, she rushes with feet tugging but seemingly floating from the ground. Her lips forming the widest grin she could ever muster.
Blue and green mists revolved around them, floating and swimming through the air as the dragon and moon finally reunites.
Draco reached out his fingertips to her cheek, touching her skin and inhaling her earthly smell. His eyes were wide with trying to devour her in, and hers were dark blue in deep glow, her heart raising and thumping inside her chest. She was relieved. The ache she felt flung from the confines of her ribcage.
"Draco-" he gently pulled her jaw, his lips touching hers, drinking her in.
The blue and green mists went up to the skies and exploded with different colors with different forms.
Luna wrapped her arms around his waist, one hand curling behind his neck. The explosions upon the sky and the ones inside her system dances in a united symphony. If she could describe what her heart was feeling, it might be like fireworks. Exploding with finally fulfilling the loneliness they have had endured.
"Draco, I'm sorry I look like a wreck. It just happened"
"You are most definitely have always been a wreck Luna. But that's your thing"
He leaned his forehead against hers, his eyes closed and mouth heaving heavy breaths. Once twice, she had heard herself giggle, relinquishing the lingering joy for having the three of them finally together once again.
"Luna I-" Draco stopped his harsh breaths, his nerves suddenly became intact. Seeing him onto something, Luna grabbed Clementine who did not want anything but to attach herself to her mother's arms.
Slowly, with the loud explosions upon the sky and inside her ribcage, Draco kneeled on one knee, his eyes serious and determined, lurking into hers as if he was about to read her whole soul.
"Luna, if it's not much of a burden, will you accept spending the rest of your life managing to live it with me?"
"Draco, is it not much of a burden if I'll say yes?"
Sorry for the grammatical errors, I must confess, I did not read it after writing it. I'm so sorry. I hope it is well! I also hope it wasn't as boring as I think it is.
