Chapter 34: The Visit
Once the train pulled into King's Cross, Draco got up quickly and disembarked. He walked toward the group of Death Eaters waiting in the corner for him. They promptly shoved him out of the station and Disapparated him to Malfoy Manor.
"Hello, Draco," Narcissa said quietly as she gave Draco a hug. There's food in the kitchen for you.
Draco gladly followed his mother into the kitchen, eager to get away from the dark and scary group of Death Eaters. He wasn't scared, exactly, just uncomfortable in their presence.
Once in the kitchen, Draco stopped dead in his tracks.
"Hello, Draco," cackled Bellatrix Lestrange.
Draco swallowed. "Er, what're you doing here?"
"Is that any way to talk to your Aunt?" Bellatrix asked, pretending to pout.
Draco didn't reply. He instead walked briskly toward the chair in front of which his mother had placed his meal.
"How was school?" Narcissa asked quietly.
"Wonderful," Draco replied sarcastically. "How do you think it was, Mother?"
"It should be lovely with all that Mudblood filth gone," interrupted Bellatrix. "I, for one, would be thrilled, if the Carrows were my teachers."
"That's because they're your friends," Draco muttered under his breath. He got up and placed his empty plate in the sink. "Thank you, Mother," he whispered, giving her a peck on the cheek before practically running to his bedroom.
Upon opening his door, Draco came across a surprise. A burly, dark-haired Death Eater was laying on his bed, fast asleep.
"Excuse me," Draco said, trying to keep his voice level. "But who exactly are you?"
The Death Eater turned over and grunted. "Your new roommate."
"Sorry, but I don't recall having a roommate in my own bloody house. Get out." Draco was very irritated.
"Nah," the Death Eater replied.
"Get. Out. Now!"
The Death Eater sat up, breathing heavily. "Why?"
"Get out!" Draco bellowed.
"The Dark Lord'll hear about this," the Death Eater muttered darkly.
"See if I care!" Draco cried, positively enraged now, not caring what he said. He slammed his door shut behind the Death Eater. He had barely been home for an hour.
"Happy Easter," Draco whispered.
Draco spent the next two days locked up in his room, refusing to leave. His mother forced him to eat, shoving a plate and a spoon into his hands three times a day.
Draco listened to Potterwatch once in those two days, hungry for news. Nothing. He had had to listen in the dead of night, under his bed. He also cast three Silencing Spells around his room.
A few days into the holidays, Draco was bored out of his mind. He spent two hours picking at the rug on his bedroom floor, having exhausted the supply of non-Dark Magic books in the library. He was just about to fall asleep when someone called from him.
"Draco!" Lucius Malfoy bellowed. "Come here!"
Draco rolled over. "Why?" He yelled back."
"Draco! Hurry up!" Was the reply.
Draco sat up quickly. Lucius sounded positively gleeful. Curious, Draco stood up and headed to the front room.
"Look!" Lucius shouted excitedly, pointing to a mop of black hair attached to a balloon-like head and a normal-sized body.
"What?" Draco asked, suddenly very scared.
"Look who it is!"
"Who?" Draco asked, afraid to tell the truth. He knew exactly who it was.
"Isn't it Harry Potter?!" Lucius practically squealed.
Draco flinched. "Er, maybe? I'm really not sure."
"Look closer!" Lucius said, shoving Draco forward.
Draco stared into Harry Potter's swollen green eyes. "I don't think so."
Lucius frowned, then his face contorted with rage. "Draco, it is!" Lucius snarled in Draco's ear.
Draco breathed out slowly, knowing what would come if he denied Potter's identity again. "Yeah, I guess..."
Lucius cried out with glee. "We've got him! Bring in the others!"
Two more people were brought forward. Draco's knees almost gave out.
Hermione. And Weasley. Both bloody, scarred, weak, and frightened.
"That's the Mudblood, isn't it?!" Lucius cheered. "And a Weasley!"
"And my sword!" Bellatrix snarled.
Draco didn't say a word; he just moved his head slightly. He clenched his fists. Hermione refused to make eye contact with him. "I guess," Draco whispered.
"Yes!" Lucius yelled. "Draco, now everything will be okay!"
Draco nodded, his face turned downward.
Bellatrix stepped in. "Take the others to the cellar!" She commanded a group of Death Eaters. They grabbed the two boys and dragged them into the kitchen. Bellatrix turned to Hermione. "Now, I'll have some fun with you."
Bellatrix grabbed Hermione by the hair and threw her onto the dining room floor. Lucius ushered Draco and Narcissa, who had been standing silently, into the dining room as well. Blood was dripping from Hermione's mouth.
Bellatrix stood over Hermione. "Where did you get that sword?"
"We found it in the forest," Hermione said, her voice trembling.
"Liar!" Bellatrix shrieked, bringing a knife to Hermione's throat. "I repeat, where. Did. You. Get. The. Sword?"
"I just told you!" Hermione insisted, her eyes squeezed shut.
Bellatrix hissed, jabbing the knife into Hermione's arm, then bringing it back to her throat.
"You took it from my vault, didn't you, you filthy little Mudblood!" Bellatrix screeched. Hermione screamed as Draco cringed, remembering when he had called Hermione that so many years ago.
Hermione's blood ran down her arm. A tear spilled down her cheek
"I'll ask you one more time," Bellatrix whispered menacingly. "Where did that sword come from?"
Hermione shook her head, sobs racking through her body. She bit her lip, trying to stop the blood from running down her chin. Then she screamed as Bellatrix dug into her arm.
Hermione's blood spilled onto the carpet. Something inside Draco broke.
"Stop!" He cried just as a loud noise came from the cellar. Lucius grabbed Draco's arm. Bellatrix turned to Draco slowly.
"What did you say?"
"Stop it!" Draco yelled, wrenching his arm from his father's grip. "What are you doing?!"
Bellatrix's upper lip curled. "I told you not to speak to me like that!" She cried. Pulling out her wand. There was a bright light, and a huge gash opened on Draco's left cheek.
"Don't do this!" Draco whispered, blood flowing into his mouth. The metallic taste was getting stronger. Bellatrix flicked her wand once more, sending Draco flying into the wall. He fell in a crumpled heap.
Just then, Dobby and a few others appeared in the room with a loud crack.
"What-? Dobby!" Bellatrix cried.
Draco was losing consciousness. The next thing he knew, Potter and Weasley appeared, sending spells flying. One barely missed Draco. Everything was growing black. Draco saw Bellatrix throwing her knife at the Disapparating Dobby. Once the knife had vanished, Bellatrix turned on Draco.
"What are you Draco, a blood-traitor?" Bellatrix screamed. "Do you know what I'm going to do to you?!"
"Bellatrix stop!" Lucius bellowed, grabbing Bellatrix and pulling her away from Draco. Narcissa hurried over and helped Draco up.
"Stay away from my son," she whispered, helping Draco into the kitchen. Bellatrix lashed out at Narcissa until another Death Eater hit her with a Full-Body Bind, afraid she would turn on him next.
Draco's head was slick with blood. The last thing he remembered before blacking out was Wormtail's dead body at the cellar door.
