Hermione's POV

I wake up to the sound of loud pounding on what must have been my front door.

"One moment, I'm coming!" I call out. Who could be knocking on my door this early on a Friday morning? That's right! It's Friday! I glance at my alarm clock, as I throw off my covers, and see that I was supposed to meet Ginny, Harry, and Ron at the Burrow half an hour ago.

I sprint down the stairs to open the door while throwing on a cardigan to remain decent, leading me to half trip down the last three steps. My arm hits the railing while I bump my head on the wall.

I groan as I stumble towards the door and open it to the smiling faces of my friends.

"There you are! We've been waiting for you for the past 45 minutes!" says Ginny.

"Sorry everyone, I was up late last night making sure I had everything on my list and making space in my trunk," I say as I invite them inside and lead them to the living room. "Honestly, it was like a game of Tetris!" Ginny and Ron look very confused as I realize that they don't know what I'm talking about. It's so easy to get my life as a muggle and my life as a witch confused. "Tetris is a puzzle game where you have to fit these weirdly shaped pieces into a grid as they fall if that makes any sense. Maybe I'll show you guys someday."

"We should probably leave as soon as possible to beat the rush, so why don't you go and get changed? Don't worry, we'll wait for you down here," says Harry.

"Thank you, Harry, I'll be down in a second."

I run upstairs and quickly change into a tank top and cardigan, and a pair of jeans. I grab my shopping list, my beaded purse, and wand before I run down again to meet my friends. Harry is sitting on my couch while Ginny and Ron are exploring the tech in the room and trying to figure it out. Ron seems particularly invested in figuring out the function of the dials on the radio next to the TV.

"Sorry about that guys, I'm ready to go now! Should we floo there or apparate?" I ask as I sling my purse over my shoulder and adjust it.

"Flooing would probably be the best. It'll be easier since there's only four of us," says Ron. Of course he and Ginny would know what it's like trying to floo with too many people.

"Alright, let's go then." We all line up and floo there, one after the other, arriving in Diagon Alley.

Draco's POV

Every day, I awake at 6 am. The first thing I do is open my curtains to let the early morning sunlight to my room. After that I take a quick shower and brush my teeth. Once I'm finished and dressed, I towel dry my hair and leave my towel next to the fireplace. Grabbing my satchel and reviewing my shopping list mentally, I make my way downstairs to grab my breakfast.

My parents are nowhere to be found in the dining room, but they must be awake as my mother has made pancakes and one stack is considerably shorter than the rest. I take a seat and quickly wolf down a couple of them with strawberries, fresh cream, and a cup of Earl Grey. When I finish, I carry my dishes to the kitchen and soak them in the sink.

Walking down the hall, I grab my cloak and open the atrium door to the gardens. It's beautiful at this time of day out here. Many things help me wake up in the morning: sunlight, tea, and in Hogwarts, coffee as the Slytherin dormitories don't let in much light. However, I find that taking a walk in the crisp morning air makes me feel fresh and ready to seize the day. I walk around for 20 minutes, taking in the smells and sounds of the nature around me, appreciating the beauty of it. Most people would laugh at me now. Draco Malfoy, the ex-Death Eater, spending his time appreciating the wonders of nature. I would be the laughing stock of Slytherin if any of them ever found out, though I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this.

When I feel more alert, I head back to the Manor. I arrive to find my mother getting the last of her stuff ready in the traveller's room.

"There you are darling! Thank you for helping to clean up breakfast," she says as she finishes putting on a set of black gloves and hooks a black, lacey parasol on her right wrist.

"You're welcome mother, it's the least I could do."

"Well, we'd best be going now. It's a shame the ministry rejected your father's request to come with us, but let's make the most out of this trip." I hadn't expected the Ministry to say yes, but at least we tried. It would have been nice to go to Diagon Alley one last time with the whole family, and it would have been nice to go with a father who wouldn't berate me the whole time.

We set off down the front pathway, past the wards protecting the manor, and apparate. We appear just outside the entrance to Diagon Alley and my mother uses her parasol to tap the bricks for us to enter. Just as we walk through, I spot the Golden Trio and the Weaselette coming out of the Leaky Cauldron. Could this day have taken a more drastic turn? I was hoping to avoid them until the beginning of the school year. I attempt to keep my head down and guide my mother away from them, in the hopes that they don't notice us.

"Oi Malfoy! Is that you? You dare to show your face after everything your family did in the war?"

Trust the Weasel to turn everything sour. My mother tenses up next to me, but I reassure her by resting my hand on her arm.

I turn to meet the eyes of one, very red, Ronald Weasley. Granger and Potter are almost flanking him, while the Weaslette already has one hand on her wand. Here I thought we might have been able to keep things civil.
