CHAPTER NINE: HALF MEANT TRUTH

A loud shrill rang inside the silent office of Director Kazahana, She let it ring for a few seconds before she took it off the cradle. "Hello?"

After a few beats, she said. "Okay. Be sure to follow her, call me where it'll be and I'll follow you in a few minutes." She hanged up. The lavender-haired woman released a long sigh and she looked outside of her window. City lights gleamed peacefully outside. After months of undercover work of her agents, she hoped that this time, it'll be the end. She loves their city, and every man under her felt the same. They will fulfill their sworn duty to protect and serve every citizen under their jurisdiction. Many girls have been kidnapped and family had been torn because of it and she'll do everything in her power to see this sorrowful case come to an end.

Kazahana walked towards her drawer and opened it, pulling out a shoulder harness containing a rather deadly looking Glock. With precise movements, she removed the clip from the gun and checked it; her expression still preoccupied, then replaced it and shrugged into the harness. With a shrug, she wore it and secured the harness around her body.

She knew that she was being protective of her daughters but something, in this case, doesn't fit, and she wanted to make sure that if worse comes to worst she'll be there when it blows. Slowly adrenaline flowed through her veins. She rolled her head and she could feel her shoulder cracking. She released a determined breath and she said to herself, "Let's end this."

Will I turn left after Suzaku Street?" Natsuki asked Kanzaki quietly. She could feel her blood running wild through her head but she remained composed. Her guts were screaming that this is it that finally, he will take them to the missing children.

After Kanzaki's frantic announcement, Shizuru calmed him. It took Shizuru a few minutes to calm the man down. Natsuki was perplexed at Kanzaki's reaction. Why was he so hysterical? Damn it. Natsuki cursed to herself. Something is not right, she thought. For someone who's gonna score big bucks, he's not acting happy about it.

"Shit," Natsuki muttered. Shizuru glance at her questioningly. "Something is not right." She whispered to herself but the woman beside her heard it.

"When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." Shizuru quietly said.

"Truth huh?" Natsuki replied to her. It's clear that Shizuru knew something but it seems that her ex-girlfriend wanted her to figure this out on her own. Natsuki didn't have any choice but to follow them. She could hear Nao relaying their whereabouts. They were five meters behind them, silently tailing their car.

"Natsuki," Kanzaki called her attention. Natsuki glanced at him through the rearview mirror. She could see that he's tensed and Kanzaki's struggling for control. He looked at Natsuki's eyes intently.

"You're fired." Both women were surprised at his words. "Wait, let me explain it first." The man paused and inhaled deeply.

"From now on, you are free to do what you want to do. Do what you think is right." She could see that Kanzaki was serious about this, so she only nodded to him. He thanked Natsuki and continued to stare ahead of them. "Go to Port Fuuka, and park directly to the last warehouse near the sea. That's our destination." Kanzaki said to her.

"Loud and clear, Natsuki. We'll go ahead of you to find a spot where we could park. Well, run a thermal scan if someone is there before us. By the way, Sensei is coming." Nao said to her but she didn't say anything. Natsuki's heart drummed to her chest. So Sensei also sensed that something is wrong.

Natsuki's emerald eyes took a quick look at the woman beside her. She knew that the woman has an army following her. Heck, the woman doesn't look perturbed at the idea that finally, they're going to nab him on the spot. Her eyes furrowed, concentrated at their destination but her mind is wheeling with questions.

Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains must be the truth. Natsuki's grip tightened on the stirring wheel. Reito Kanzaki kidnapped those kids for white slavery. Isn't that the truth? She swore silently and she continued to drive towards their destination with the nagging feeling that she'll eventually know the truth in a few minutes.

A sweat rolled to her temple, and Nao wiped it with her bare hands while she and the rest of the team waited for the result of the thermal scan. Like the rest of the team, they were wearing Kevlar vest. She hated wearing it because it was bulky and uncomfortable but Natsuki said that the real reason why Nao hated wearing it was because she looked fat in it. Nao smiled at the memory.

Natsuki. For some reason, Nao was worried for her sister. Maybe because of Natsuki's attachment to one of the key players in this case. This was the first time that Natsuki let her emotions meddle their profession. She was rarely ruffled by her emotions, so seeing her bewildered was foreign to Nao.

"We've got hit. Three bodies in the middle of the warehouse and two from an adjacent room." The agent beside her said.

"No small bodies?" Nao stared at the monitor. There's no other heat detected at the screen. "Shit. Run another scan, and concentrate at the basement. We need to find those kids."

"Yes, sir." The agent nodded to her and restarted the thermal scan.

"Dammit, Natsuki. We've got five people in the warehouse. All of them are adults based on the size of the body heat but the kids are still missing." Nao frustratingly combed her hair.

"Team Charlie, what's your status?" Nao contacted the other team.

A static came to her ear and one of her agents answered. "Sir, we've surrounded the area. Two agents were posted near the room where we found the two body heats. One of the snipers is currently climbing up the warehouse for a clearer shot."

"Place three of our agents near the exit of the warehouse and the rest of you will follow us once we entered the vicinity. Proceed with care agents, wait for my signal and," Nao swallowed. "Stay alive."

"Copy that, sir. Over and out." The static vanished.

"Sir we've got another hit!" Her heart jumped to her throat and she rushed to the monitor to see for herself.

"Five small body heats. This is fucking awesome!" Nao said excitingly. She contacted the team for the instruction.

"Team Bravo and Charlie, the five subjects are in the basement. Both of teams should disarm anyone who will fight back. Your top priority is to stop them. Natsuki and Team Alpha's priority is to secure the subject. I repeat, the priority is to secure the subjects." A series of "copy" echoed around their communication.

She looked at her two back up. "Get ready, once Natsuki went inside, we'll follow them." Both agents nodded.

Nao contacted her sister. "Natsuki, the five missing kids are in the warehouse. They are in the basement. Every agent now is in place, it's now in your hands." She knew that her sister and every other man under their command were listening to the other line, but despite being embarrassed Nao expressed her worries to her sister.

"Be safe Natsuki. If anything happens to you, Sensei will kill me for sure." Nao tried to joke but the worry in her voice was obvious.

"Stupid." That single reply from her sister made Nao choke with emotion. She swallowed the sudden emotion that came from her chest. Natsuki wasn't wearing anything under her clothes, and her sister will be in the middle of the shootout. Nao might be one of the best special agents around FBI but she won't let anything happen to one of her family. She won't let that happen again to her. Even if it means compromising their subjects, she said to herself while she checks her own gun for the battle ahead.

"What is the current situation there?" The person to the other line asked the man inside the car near the warehouse. Three persons were inside the car but the only one that can be seen through the tinted glass.

"It seems they got it all under control." The man quietly replied.

The man at the other lined hummed. "They sure were lucky that they got that tip."

He chuckled at the man's humor. "We got enough information to nab the guy. Let's see if they will manage to stick theirs to him."

"I did not say that." They both chuckled in spite of the seriousness of the situation. "Will she be alright?"

The man in the car glanced outside and smiled. "I think she got the whole feebs with her."

"Well, you know what to do. Call me again for an update." And the man at the other line hung up. He took a momentary look again outside, seeing that the agents outside had settled down, he smiled at the two persons behind him. "It's time guys. Let's ruin his day."

Natsuki looked around when she halted their car. She knew beforehand that her team was in place, but seeing that the place was deserted, goose bumps ran through her arms. Beside her, Kanzaki fidgeted.

The bluenette's eyebrows furrowed but her training held her from asking the man. Kanzaki took a ragged breath before squaring his shoulders and got out of the car. Without wasting any more time, Shizuru opened the passenger door and got out.

Shizuru's hair swayed a little when a breeze blew and for a second, Natsuki remembered the first time she saw the older woman. Her heart lurched painfully to her chest, and she gasped at the intensity of her feelings for Shizuru. Natsuki knew that whatever she do, she'll never get over her feelings for the tawny haired woman.

Her breath whooshed out of her as if she was holding her breath; reality sank as she stared at the woman outside the car. This could be the last time Natsuki could tell her feelings for Shizuru. After this op, it's either they'll be back into their own lives as if nothing happened or one of them will die during the mission.

Natsuki gritted her teeth, her mind racing at the thought of Shizuru dying. If someone is going to die, Natsuki will gladly give up her life for the woman she only loved. The sound of a closing door caught her attention, and Natsuki saw Kanzaki walked towards Shizuru. Natsuki saw a fleeting emotion passed through those crimson orbs when Shizuru looked at the man beside her. A moan escaped her when Shizuru gathered the man into her arms, jealousy and pain surged through her veins as she watched the older woman murmured words to Kanzaki.

She squeezed her eyes to shut off the scene in front of her. Natsuki gripped the steering wheel tightly to the point she can no longer feel her hands because of the numbness. It doesn't matter, Natsuki told to herself. She could care less if Shizuru doesn't return her feelings. Right now, Natsuki wanted, no, she needed to tell Shizuru exactly her feelings. With renewed determination, she opened her eyes.

Shizuru was about to call Natsuki when the younger woman opened her eyes and she staggered at the burning fire behind her emerald eyes. The complete determination swirling around those dark emerald orbs scared her. Shizuru could almost swear that she could hear her heart beating fast when the younger woman opened the door and walked towards her. In a way, Shizuru knew what the younger woman will say and that alone made her panic. She can't handle this now; she needed her head clear before going to a dangerous mission. She glanced back to see if Reito was still beside her and Shizuru stood still when Natsuki caught her right hand.

Electricity ran through her their joined hands and both of them struggle for breath. "Shizuru," That quiet muster of her name stopped Shizuru from escaping Natsuki. It was a part, command, and plea. Shizuru completely stood still while she waited for the other woman to voice out her reasons for stopping her.

A soft tug caught her unaware, and Shizuru stumbled towards Natsuki's arms. Everything clicked into place, Shizuru's hand was at Natsuki's wildly thumping heart. "I need to tell you something," She whispered to Shizuru's ear. Natsuki could feel the older woman trembling in her arms.

"I love you," Shizuru clenched her shirt and the other woman protested but she stopped her with a gentle kiss. Their body molded into one and everything vanished. Blood gushed through Natsuki's head and Shizuru's throat released a primal sound that neither of them was prepared for.

Without thinking, Shizuru wrapped her arms around Natsuki's neck to taste more of her mouth. It's been years, since the last time her heart soared like this. It was like she was drowning and she needed Natsuki's lips for her to survive. She almost fainted when Natsuki sweetly suck her lower lips, and butterflies erupted in her stomach when Natsuki licked it softly.

Natsuki knew that she's losing it; she could feel her head spinning with so much sensation. Her chest heaved because she knew that she needed to say the words that she wanted to say ever since the day that they reunited but the other woman was making it hard to stop herself from kissing Shizuru. Just like the old times, Shizuru was so responsive. Those soft sweet lips that always lulled her into temptation, her body that was molded only for hers only and those burning crimson eyes that always see right through her walls.

Dark emerald eyes stared deeply into crimson burning eyes, they were both panting when they pulled apart. Shizuru's lips still tingling, the woman in front of her stroked it softly as if she was memorizing it for the last time.

"After all these years," Natsuki spoke with a strangled voice. "It was always been you." Unshed tears brimmed to Shizuru's crimson eyes. "I tried so hard to forget you," Natsuki brushed her hair away from her eyes. "But when I saw you again, I knew it was useless."

"I'm so sorry for messing things up, Shizuru." A tear rolled from Shizuru's eyes and Natsuki wiped it away gently. "I won't make any excuses anymore. I should have trusted you more, I should have told you and—,"

Shizuru silenced her with her index finger, after pausing; Shizuru's finger traced her lips slowly. "We will talk later," Shizuru murmured softly. Acceptance came through her heart; she knew that it was only her pride stopping her from accepting the younger woman's explanation. Shizuru gripped Natsuki's shirt to stop herself from further distraction. They needed to separate their personal problems from their operation today. Releasing a relieved sigh, she softened her grip from the younger woman's shirt and she smoothened it.

Natsuki nodded while she watched her ex-girlfriend with an intense look. She needed to make this right for them, Natsuki grasped Shizuru's waist and she nuzzled her neck. Shizuru gasped at the sudden display of affection, she blushed when she felt the younger woman's breath to her neck.

"Ara," Her breath rapidly rose, and she tried to tease Natsuki. "I didn't know that Natsuki could be this clingy." To her surprise, Natsuki chuckled before she released her to look straight to her eyes.

"After this op, I'll do everything in my power to make you stay with me," Natsuki said huskily. Pleasure ran through Shizuru's body at Natsuki's promise. She didn't know that the younger woman could be this confident and this self-assured woman in front of her was making her REALLY bothered.

Shizuru cleared her throat. "Natsuki really needs to stop saying charming things," The woman gave her a questioning look.

"We wouldn't want us to get distracted in op right?" She reminded Natsuki.

"Oh," Natsuki gave her a bashful grin before releasing her fully.

A sound of clearing throat caught their attention and Natsuki grimace, she completely forgot Kanzaki. Natsuki mentally cursed herself, talk about being an idiot. I actually kissed her supposed to be girlfriend around him. She whimpered in embarrassment.

"I think, I'm gonna puke." Nao gagged into their communication and Natsuki groaned in horror. She completely forgot that she was wearing a fucking wire. A full blown blush spread through her face and into her neck, and her sister from the other com was laughing hysterically. Natsuki could hear some of the agents chuckling, and she growled dangerously, but that doesn't stop her sister from laughing.

"What's wrong?" Shizuru asked him.

"We need to go," Kanzaki said coldly. Natsuki growled as if she was baring her fangs to him; however Shizuru held her in place.

The man turned his back on them and walked briskly towards the warehouse. Shizuru took her attention, and she said. "It's show time."

Natsuki blinked, she was astonished at Shizuru's underlying enthusiasm. Slowly, she grinned towards her. "Let's get 'em."

"Team Charlie, what's the status?" Nao whispered to her com. She watched her sister disappear inside the warehouse. Before they follow the group, she needed to check if they are the only ones in the area.

A static sound ran through the communication, and one of her agents answered her. "Agent Yuuki, someone's in here. They are walking towards your area!"

Adrenaline rushed through her veins, she whispered vehemently to her team to spread out. Before any of them was able to get away, a man shouted.

"No need to pull your guns out agents. We are with Fujino." Ten meters away from them, the bush moved but instead of trusting the man, Nao signaled them to leave her. All of her men vanished and she positioned her gun towards the shadow moving towards her.

Three people appeared, and the moonlight illuminated them. Without flinching, Nao trained her gun towards the man's forehead. "How can we be sure?" Nao said void with emotion.

The hands of the man in front of her were raised and he chuckled before answering. "As you can see, I'm not armed."

"You are, but not her." Nao motioned towards the girl beside the man.

He sighed heavily before he talked to the child-like woman beside him. "Mikoto, please don't antagonize them more."

"But you are defenseless." The woman called Mikoto, answered the man without breaking eye contact from Nao. She was holding her gun but she's not pointing it to Nao.

"They're not going to shoot us Mikoto; it would be a shame if one of the best agents from FBI will be jailed because she shot an innocent man." The woman with the same shade of Fujino's eyes reasoned out with Mikoto.

"Miyu is right, please drop your weapon Mikoto-chan." The man commanded Mikoto gently one more time.

For a few beats, Mikoto nodded to him and pocketed her gun to her holster. Nao studied the trio before she asked them again. "Give me your full name," She said to the man.

"Masashi Takeda," The man answered without any hesitation.

"Run his name," Nao commanded to one of her agents. After a few minutes of silence, the agent answered her inquiry.

"He's in the database sir," one of the agents murmured to her. She studied them once more before moving her gun out of the man's forehead.

"Where are you back up?" she glanced at them as if expecting a battalion.

"None." The man gave her a smile.

"What? Why?" Nao looked at them incredulously.

"Does it matter? I think you have the whole bureau with you." Miyu answered her.

"Great, are you in the recession?" Nao countered sarcastically.

The man chuckled at her which irked Nao. "We kind of anticipated your extent of the operation."

"Are you saying that you expected that we'll bring chivalry for you?" Nao glared at them.

"Well, Shizuru did." The man answered her cheekily.

Nao rolled her eyes and turned her back on them. "Your salary is bigger than mine and you guys didn't even have to call for backup. Well, whatever. Just don't bother us." She whispered to her com.

A static caught Nao's attention, her sister cursed from the other line and Nao stiffed. "Shit! Move agents! Follow me!" Within seconds a group of agents suddenly appeared around them and ran towards the warehouse.

"Something happened, we need to follow them." Mikoto eagerly said and all of them dashed towards the group.

It took Natsuki every ounce of self-restraint to stop herself from killing spree when she saw the children being guided towards them. Shizuru whispered to her to wait for her signal to announce the presence of FBI. She was furious; they have everything to convict the bastard. So why wait? What's the purpose? Shizuru's cold voice took her attention.

"Two guards? They are just children." Shizuru acted her part. The tawny-haired woman walked towards the group of children who huddled together because of fear. Fury almost consumed her; these girls are only nine to twelve years old. So innocent, young and fragile, just like Natsuki. She almost lost her control when she remembered Natsuki's past.

Shizuru swallowed the bile in her throat that suddenly rose, and forced her alter ego to take over her personality. "Healthy?"

One of the guards nodded. Shizuru walked around them as if she was studying them. "Virgin?" Natsuki clenched her fist and she almost growled when the children sobbed. Dammit, she cursed under her breath and Shizuru threw her a subtle look of warning.

"Where is he?" Shizuru snapped at one of the guards.

"He's on his way." The bulky man replied.

"Is this a joke? We're supposed to talk about my commission but he's not here?" Shizuru said flatly.

Beside Natsuki, Kanzaki fidgeted. Why isn't he in authority here? Slowly, Natsuki looked around them. Clearly, Shizuru played the part as a pimp but where is the supplier? Kanzaki was supposed to be the supplier of girls but why isn't he saying anything?

Something moved behind the back of her mind. There's something wrong, with questioning eyes, she glanced at Shizuru and she remembered what Shizuru said. Someone's missing. Her breath hitched and before he could react, someone chuckled evilly to them.

A sophisticated man was walking towards them and he is not alone. He was almost dragging a woman behind him, and her arms are tied. "My, my, someone's cranky."

Beside her, Kanzaki released a strangled cry. "Mai! Goddammit, Nagi! Don't hurt her!" When he started to run towards the silver-haired man, the two guards suddenly fixed their gun towards Kanzaki and Natsuki instinctively took out her gun.

"Enough!" Shizuru's freezing voice boomed around the warehouse and all of the girls are suddenly crying.

"What?" Nagi grinned at them as if he's not perturbed by the scene around him."He started it." and he chuckled which made Natsuki twitched.

"And who's that?" He asked Shizuru. "Oh," He smiled at Natsuki. "You're the bodyguard that I tried to mow over right?" Natsuki ignored his question and that made the man laugh like a mad man.

"She's definitely taking her duty seriously." Nagi studied her. "You want to work for me?"

Natsuki gritted her teeth, the man is seriously nuts. "That is if you can afford me." Nagi threw his head laughing; it seemed that he liked her answer.

"I like this woman!" The man beamed.

Shizuru sneered at Nagi. "Really? I thought you can only jerk off around young girls."

With a flash, Nagi tried to slap Shizuru but the woman caught his wrist before it connected to her face. Flushed with rage, he pulled back his hand. "Like you are no different with me, pimp!" Nagi shouted.

Shizuru snorted at his insult. "Whatever." She gestured at the woman tied behind Nagi. "Give Reito her slut so we can talk about the price. My clients are getting impatient."

"Hah! Who could have thought that the mighty Fujino Shizuru would stoop this low? Your family was one of the richest and powerful personalities back then and look at you today," Nagi mocked her. "Waiting for her commission for selling girls?" Nagi pushed Mai towards Kanzaki.

With open arms, Kanzaki gathered the sobbing woman in his arms. "Can you please move out of the way Kanzaki?" Shizuru said to them and the man nodded. He carried Mai towards the adjacent room where the remaining two guards gestured them inside.

"What? No smart ass comeback?" Nagi opened her arms as if daring her to oppose him.

Shizuru flicked a glance towards Natsuki, and slowly she faced the man. "None, but I have this." Without thinking twice, Shizuru pivoted and she threw a solid punch towards Nagi's face. Blood sprayed out his nose, and in the corner of her eyes, she saw Natsuki dashed and with precise movements, she shot one of the guards in front of her in the shoulder.

Chaos erupted and all Natsuki can think about is how to save the girls. The remaining guard suddenly realized their situation and he tried to drag the nearest girl to shield him from bullets but before he could fully drag the girl he recoiled suddenly at the impact of the bullet when Nao shot him in the leg.

"FBI! Drop your weapons or we'll fucking blow you heads!" She shouted. Agents poured everywhere, and some of the agents circled around the fallen guards to arrest them. Gunshots were heard in the adjacent room, and all of a sudden Kanzaki and Mai got out of it.

Nao ran towards the room, and she took cover at the side of the door. Natsuki followed her, and she nodded to her sister. With so much nimbleness, Natsuki docked and rolled inside of it. She saw the two guards shooting the agents outside of the window. She shot one of them in the shoulder and a bullet flew past her and the remaining guard fell to his feet whimpering.

"Clear!" Nao shouted. Adrenaline pumped through her body, she could almost feel her blood gushing through her head and Natsuki ran back outside to check the girls and Shizuru. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Shizuru walking towards their place.

Then Shizuru smiled to her and everything around her slowed down, it started gradually and then a fluttering of warm emotion ran through her belly to chest. Natsuki felt her breath hitched, everything seems so right whenever she looked at the woman walking towards her. Just looking at her crimson bright eyes makes her quiver, as if Shizuru knew everything about her, her heart and her soul.

How on earth did I ever manage to leave her? To live without her all this time? She opened her mouth to say something but she felt her chest tightened at the abrupt awareness. She wanted this woman, this insane thumping of her heart every time she laid her eyes of Shizuru. Natsuki wanted to wake up each day with Shizuru by her side. To touch her without getting terrified that anytime Shizuru will vanish, to laugh with every little thing that she'll find funny. Natsuki drew a deep lungful of air, how can she make me feel like I'm losing my mind and fulfilled at the same time?

Tears stung her eyes, all of a sudden she wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. Finally, it's finished. Natsuki opened her mouth to call Shizuru when a glitter of light caught her attention. A horrified sound escaped her lips when Natsuki saw it; Nagi was aiming his gun at Shizuru's back and before she knew it she jumped at the woman she love hoping that in time, she'll save her.

A loud bang echoed, and someone shouted. Natsuki didn't feel anything painful in her body, she howled when she realized that if she was not the one who got shot, it would be—

"Shizuru?!" Numb, Natsuki shouted.

A painful moan ricochet around the warehouse and Natsuki's heart stopped. Natsuki sobbed; all of a sudden her heart felt like it's going to burst out of her chest. "No, No, No, NO! Shizuru! Please don't die on me!"

Her emerald eyes widen at the realization and Natsuki bawled like a child.

** To be continued… **

OMAKE!

A soft tug caught her unaware, and Shizuru stumbled towards Natsuki's arms. Everything clicked into place, Shizuru's hand was at Natsuki's wildly thumping heart.

Natsuki: I need to tell you something.

She whispered to Shizuru's ear. Natsuki could feel the older woman trembling in her arms.

Natsuki: I love you. *blushing*

Shizuru clenched her shirt and the other woman protested but she stopped her with a gentle kiss.

Kanzaki: Seriously? They are making out in front of me? *blushing*

Both women ignored his whining but a red dot caught Natsuki's eye, without hesitating, Natsuki aimed at it and shot it.

Someone fell from the tree in front of them and silence engulfed the area. The trio jumped when the woman who was shot suddenly stood up and ran towards them.

Rebelionheart: You have some nerve to shoot me! Asdfghjkl! *cursing*

Natsuki: What the fuck? I saw a laser rangefinder! What do you expect me to do? To be a sitting duck!

Rebelionheart: Huh? I was just trying to see you make out clearly in the sniper scope?! What's wrong with that!?

Natsuki: you're still a freaking pervert! *growl*

Shizuru: Uhm, ano, Rebelionheart something is oozing out of your shirt... *grimace*

Kanzaki: Holy mother of god! It's blood! *shrieks*

Rebelionheart: *fainted*

Natsuki: I can't believe you shrieked like a girl! *laughing*

Kanzaki: *blushing* oi! Aren't you worried at her!

A/N:
