At first it's disturbing, the way he seems to pop up everywhere she goes. After the fifth time, it's simply annoying.
"I've noticed that Raito-kun and Eden-chan seem to be spending less time together." He declares nonchalantly, with a shrug of his shoulders – but his gaze is piercing, anticipating, contradicting his overall demeanor.
"Really?" She's eying rows of frozen dumpling bags, wondering if she should get the spicy ones with meat or the spicy ones with vegetables. "Strange, I could have sworn it was him in my bed this morning."
She decides on both, opening the freezer to reach for two bags and dumping them in her cart. She catches sight of the detective sending her an unamused frown.
He obviously wants to ask about Light's other girlfriends or maybe he thinks she's not aware that her boyfriend's been spending time with a model and the most popular girl at his university. Either way, she's not one for mind games and if he wants to know something, he should just ask.
For a minute, he's quiet as he follows her around the supermarket. The silence is nice, but it's still odd to have someone following so close behind her (first, a mass murderer and now a stalker, she really can't seem to catch a break).
"Does Eden-chan trust Raito-kun?" There's a two for one sale on packs of Korean instant ramen.
She hums, actually considering the question for a second, and then turns her attention back to her groceries.
"Yes." She picks the kimchi flavoured ones and thinks it would go well with the pickled radishes her mother gave her. "He's never given me a reason to doubt him."
And he hasn't. Light is a mass murderer and sometimes he's too trigger happy, but he has never lied to her like she's never lied to him. Their relationship wouldn't work if he thought she was stupid enough to not see through his lies and she simply does not see the point in lying.
"Is Eden-chan in love with him?" She snorts at that and wonders when exactly they started playing twenty questions in a supermarket. He's a famous detective, doesn't he have better things to do?
"I mean… I don't dislike him." It's not like she has a choice, anyways. He won't allow her to leave, he made that very clear.
"And does Eden-chan actually believe that Raito-kun is in love with her?" It's the way he says it, condescending, as if he's better than her and has figured out things that she couldn't possibly fathom.
It makes her laugh. A bubble of mirth erupts from her throat and she can't help the surprised chuckles that escape.
"Gosh." She pities him. "You must really think I'm stupid."
And with that she continues to push her cart around the aisles.
