Nobody's perfect. We're all just one step up from the beasts and one step down from the angels." - Jeannette Walls, Half Broke Horses
Hey guys, sorry for taking so long to update but I have very limited time to write this chapter.
Firstly, there was some confusion about people telling me that I shouldn't over power Bella. HOWEVER, if you read Edward's point of view again you will see that I have dropped in a hint that maybe it wasn't Bella who vanished Lauent and Riley.
Secondly, this will be the last chapter of this Fanfiction but there will be a second one. I will put inform you all went I have began to publish it.
Bella's POV
Back at Sam and Emily's house, I waited anxiously for Edward and the rest of the Cullen's to return (since Sam had allowed them on their lands this one time). However I couldn't help the possibilities that came to mind: what if the Volturi found out they were lying? What if Aro read on of their minds? Would he kill them? Or push them aside and start hunting me or the wolves?
I didn't realize I was holding my breath until Jared came up behind me and said, "Breathe, Bella. They will be okay."
As I sucked in a much needed lungful of air, I turned and gave the werewolf a small smile.
In the field where the battle with the newborn vampires took place four red-eyed vampires smiled animalistically at the veterinarian vampire family in front of them.
"Carlisle, it is nice to see you again, my old friend." The vampire that walked slightly ahead of all the other said, opening his arm in a gesture that would have been seen as friendly if it wasn't for the tease atmosphere around them.
"Indeed, Aro, it has been a while." Carlisle smiled, almost unaffected by the darkly cloaked figures.
"I see you took care of our problem."
"Yes..." Carlisle agree, "They were attracting unwanted attention and my family and I are living in a residence nearby."
"On your own?" Jane prodded accusingly. "No one could have don't that."
"Yes, on our own." The head of the Cullen family nodded leaving no room for objections or disagreements.
Edward watched the exchange silently, they had to be careful, if not they Aro would want to read on of their minds. If he did that and they refuse that would no doubt result in his and his family's quick and swift execution. If they didn't refuse and Aro looked into their minds then Bella and the wolves will be exposed. The Volturi will hunt them down and kill them. They had to play their cards right, if not it would be more than just one existence at stake.
Ten more minutes passed and I had started pacing the front door: My worse case scenario playing in my mind. Suddenly I heard laughter from outside and, not caring if I looked like a complete idiot, I pulled open the door with so much force it slammed against the wall behind it. However I didn't take any notice of that and ran to the object of my worry and anxiety.
Grabbing Edward into what would have been a bone crushing hug if he was human, I was determined to never let go.
Feeling ice cold arms wrap gently around, I put my chin on him chest and looked up at him. He had a lazy smile on his face and glee washed over me. "They don't know anything?" I finally asked.
"Well the know about the newborns, but they believe that we were the ones to get rid of them." Edward explained.
"Which increased their fear and caution of us." Alice quipped.
"So they won't be coming around anytime soon." Smiled Jasper.
"Anyway..." said Edward. "No, they no nothing about you or the wolves. However they will find out eventually."
"I know." I sighed, not really looking forward to facing the vampires which practically radiated cruelty and power. I remember how Aro's blood red eyes glared at me emotionlessly. They held no mercy, pity... there was no humanity in them. And sometimes I couldn't help thinking that it was their thirst not only for blood but for power that drove them into be the psychopathic killers that they are.
"Bella, come on. Lets go inside." Edward gestured to Sam's house where the wolves and some of the imprints stood looking out of the small doorway.
With a nod, I grabbed Edward's hand and followed the rest of my 'family' to the door, but just was I was about to step through the threshold, I froze. The hair on the back of my neck stood on it's end and a chill traveled up and down my spine. I could feel it, someone was watching me.
Slowly I turned around, scanning my surrounds for anything.
There was nothing there. Just the small grassy area that lead to the dark woodland that surround the house. Although, I could feel that they, or maybe it, was still watching me.
"Bella, are you okay?" Edward whispered behind me causing me to jump in fright.
"Yes," my voice cracked. "Yes, i'm fine... I just thought I saw something." Then building up all of my courage, I turned around from my invisible watcher (catching Jasper's frown) and walked into the house, closing the door behind me.
On the outskirts of the woods, a tall, broad shouldered man smirked from within the shadows. When the girl had finally entire the house glowing with light, he turned and began walking deeper into the trees. Then he vanished, leaving even the wind at scared to move.
