Edward's Point of View
This all was getting out of hand. It was obvious these attacks were directed towards my family and I would be the next target. As much as I would love to become human, it wasn't an option. I couldn't protect Bella the way she would need to be the threat of Victoria was dealt with and the person running around Ribbonwood, turning vampires into humans was caught, then I would give some serious consideration to take Brady's blood. And join Bella in old age. I had lived enough lifetimes, as a seventeen year old boy. I was ready to take the next step in my life.
At the moment, I was seated at the police barracks, having a meeting with Charlie, Emmett and Seth. We all had arrived early to deliberate the upcoming trial. After last month's incident, with Emmett getting turned into a human, Charlie decided that it was time to hold a trial against Mila.
We couldn't prove that she was the one involved with this, but we all felt that she would be able to answer some of our questions. In truth, I believed that Mila was innocent, but somehow indirectly involved with this. Perhaps she was under the control of someone else. Her thoughts were clear, she had no malicious intent that I could detect. But she had to know something.
Emmett leaned back in his office seat, chewing loudly as he devoured his third meatball hoagie. His expression was full of solace and joy. It had been a rough start for him, but he has grown to accept his human life. In fact he was embracing this new change to his world. He seemed happy, but at the same time there were moments that he missed his superhuman strength. I could hear the gloom in his thoughts each time he attempted wrestling with Seth or Darius, he no longer was a match for either of them.
"So, when are we holding this trial?" Charlie asked, reading through the report papers that were scattered around his desk.
"Well, Levi and Remey are on their way now to pick her up. Let's put her behind bars for a night, and have the trial in the morning." Emmett suggested, his mouth still full of food.
"And what about Nick, you mentioned that you had some questions for him. Are you bringing him into this trial as well?" I asked, glancing between Charlie and Emmett.
"He agreed to come to the trial in the morning. So as long as he shows up, there is no need to throw him in jail at the moment." Charlie said with a thoughtful look. "I don't honestly know why we are questioning him."
The poor boy has been through enough. I may not have understood his relationship with Embry. I've never really understood same sex relationships. It was just how I was raised. But I hold no ill feelings towards the young man. We should just leave him alone. Charlie's thoughts were quiet. But I could read them clearly. I understood how he felt. Nick has gone through a lot and the new development with Rosalie - I'm sure - was challenging for him as well. Nick was rediscovering himself, he was very confused and angry.
"That night that I got attacked with a needle, the only reason I was taken by surprise was because Nick and Louis were completely distracting me… and everyone. We thought they were going to kill each other. And Rose was there… human and completely drunk. If she would have gotten in between them, she would have gotten hurt." Emmett said, shaking his head slowly.
As much as I hate to admit it, I still care for Rose. She was my first love. I admit, I really didn't know the difference between love and obligation. For the longest time I thought she was my mate. But somewhere along the way, I realized that I only stayed with her because I felt obligated to be. She saved my life. She was my guardian angel. Of course I wanted to stay by her side for the rest of my life. I wanted to repay her for saving me. I wanted to be in love with her. But she made that a challenging feat. It's not the same as how I feel about Jada. With Jada, it's as easy as breathing. Emmett's thoughts were full of guilt, but his expression was completely unreadable. You would have never thought Emmett could be so in touch with his emotions. Jasper would have been proud.
"You believe that Nick was causing the distraction, so the assailant would be able to sneak up on you?" I clarified.
"Exactly." Emmett said with a frown. "And isn't it a bit suspicious that he was the one to give Rosalie the blood to make her human. He claims that he had know idea it was Brady's blood. But can he prove that?"
"I've known the boy for a while. He isn't a malicious person. And it's pretty clear that he deeply cares for Rose." Charlie commented.
"Maybe he does, but maybe it is just an act." Emmett said, wiping the meatball sauce from his lips. "It doesn't hurt to question him. I'm not condemning him. Or making any choices about his innocence, until he speaks in the trial."
Charlie only sighed, turning back to the mess of papers on his desk. He was clearly tired of arguing with Emmett. There was no way to successfully argue with him, I've learned that over the years. Once he got a thought in his head, he holds onto it until he is proven wrong.
"How is Bella doing today? She mentioned last night that she was up in the early mornings, puking. Do you think she has a stomach bug?" Charlie asked, changing the subject.
I sighed, running my hand through my hair. "I don't know for sure, but I do think there is some kind of illness going around. Alice, Bella and Rose all seem to have fallen ill with something."
"That's one thing that I don't miss about being human." Charlie said, chuckling. "Come to mention it, Rene has been pretty sick too and moody."
"I suppose it could be a woman thing, Addison is finally coming home today, I would have sworn Ezra would have relaxed all her worries. But I think she is more worried now, than she was before." I mentioned.
"She always was a nervous girl, even as a child. She was very cautious and jumped to the worst conclusions about everything. I think she may have gotten that from me." Charlie said with an amused laugh. "I was the same way at her age. It wasn't until I found my purpose in life, that I eventually calmed down."
Charlie might be delusional. His thoughts were always full of concerns and worries. If he was human, there was no doubt that he would have perished from a heart attack. That of course made me worry about my daughter. But I also knew that if anyone could calm her down, it was Seth. He just had a way to soothe her frazzled nerves. They were good for each other.
It was nearing two in the afternoon when Darius arrived. None of us had been expecting him. A look of amusement came to his face as he approached us. I searched his thoughts, wanting to know what was so amusing. But he was reciting the ABC's backwards. That's all I could hear from him. He has truly mastered the ability to hide his thoughts from me.
"Hello gentleman, having a good day?" Darius' smile widened.
Now I was very curious. It's been a long time since I've seen Darius in such a good mood. "We are doing pretty well. Care to share what has put you in such high spirits?"
"Well, it's been a pretty crazy day in the clinic, and it's going to be an even busier few months." He responded, laughing lightly.
Emmett and Charlie exchanged looks at each other, completely confused by Darius' responses.
"What do you mean by that?" Emmett wondered.
"Well, I just found out that Alice is expecting." Darius beamed. His eyes danced with excitement.
Wow. That happened quickly.
"Are you serious? That's a great kid. Congratulations!" Emmett said, walking over to pat Darius' on the back. Charlie went to him as well and hugged him tightly.
"How far along is she?" Charlie grinned.
"Only a few weeks. I was going to wait to tell everyone, but I couldn't wait. I had to tell you guys in person… I mean … I was already on my way to see you and dad." Darius' expression changed slightly now.
"Why were you here to see us?" I asked, trying again to slip into my son's mind. But again, his thoughts were focused now on a Robert Frost poem.
"I wasn't sure if you were aware, but grandma stopped by the clinic today. She was having complaints of her constant nausea." Darius said, looking at Charlie.
"I hadn't realized that she made an appointment." Charlie said with a look of confusion.
"Well, she is pregnant as well." Darius' tone revealed concern.
For a second I thought Charlie was going to fall to his knees, instead he landed back at his desk seat. "No way… I mean… she is forty six. That can't be safe…"
"Her pregnancy would be considered high risk, but with close monitoring, this should be a safe and simple pregnancy. But there is nothing predictable about a human giving birth to a half breed. But, we have a lot more knowledge about it." Darius explained. "She requested a female doctor, but with Mila being put on trial, we don't really have any other option. So she will have Dr. Franklin as her doctor, I'll be the baby's doctor when they are born."
"And how far along is she?" Charlie said with a nervous expression on his face. "Damn… I thought we were being careful… I thought menopause was going to hit her, before another baby." He muttered the last part, but we all heard him loud and clear.
I'm sure Charlie wanted to be happy about the baby. But I understood his reservations about the whole thing. Rene was human and has never gone through a vampire pregnancy. With the fact that she was a bit older than most women who got pregnant, that added more stress into the equation.
"She is exactly thirteen weeks along." Darius said with a hopeful look. "And after the examination, she looks to be doing well. Healthy in fact."
"Well… that's a relief. I can't believe we are doing this again." Charlie was laughing. I wasn't sure if it was fully sinking in for him yet. Or if he was just in shock.
"Grandma was really excited and wanted to know the gender right away. It was too early to check the gender of the baby through an ultrasound, however, there was a blood test we could use to find out the gender. Would you like to know what you are having?" Darius asked with a grin.
Charlie peeked up over to Darius with curiosity in his eyes.
Little Greg really wants a younger brother. But I know Rene wants another girl. I'm fine with it either way.
"Sure, go ahead and tell me the gender."
"The blood test determined that the baby is a girl." Darius smiled. "Congratulations."
I'm sure Rene will be pleased with that. I should think about going home early. I wanted to be with my wife and celebrate the good news. We would be having another girl. I can't believe it.
"That's not all," Darius said, gaining all the attention back. "It turns out that my mother is pregnant as well."
At his words, I felt my jaw drop. Shock and panic swirled around inside of me, as I tried to come to terms with what Darius had just said. My Bella was pregnant again. She would be delivering another half vampire. But this time, if the pregnancy ran into any complications, I won't be able to save her with my venom. Now that she was recently turned into a uman, the venom won't work.
"She is at five weeks, the same as Alice." Darius chuckled. "But that wasn't the last pregnancy surprise. Rose is pregnant but isn't sure who the father is. And Kora was admitted, and in active labor."
My first thoughts went to Kora. I wanted to be by her side at once. I would make my way to the clinic as soon as I could. And as for Rosalie, I understood exactly what the problem was. She had a drunken one night stand with Nick; that the both of them are refusing to talk about. And soon after she was imprinted on by Louis and they started dating. The baby could belong to either one of them. It didn't matter to Rose though. She had finally gotten what she wanted most in life. I've never seen her so happy. She was practically glowing. I should have realized that she was pregnant.
Why hadn't she told anyone about it yet?"
"Kora is in labor already? Does she need us to come in and support her?" Charlie asked with a raised brow.
"No, Daniel and my mother are there with her. When she finishes delivering she may want company. But not at this moment."
"I have to go," I said, walking quickly towards the door.
"Text me with any updates on her and twins." Charlie called after me.
I only waved, not wanting to waste another second. I needed to get to Kora and Bella. I didn't want to leave either of their sides. And I wouldn't.
Side Note:
For all the readers that follow most of my new stories, I created a new twilight story that I'm really passionate about and would love to hear your inputs. It's called "Beyond Eternity". Author: x-NeonQueen-x
I wasn't able to come up with a very good plot, but it was inspired by survival challenges.
The characters of Twilight are fooled to travel to an island, for a chance to win one million dollars. But once they all arrive, it is revealed that it was all a ploy. The wealthy man that owned the island sets up an annual hunter vs prey challenge, where all the people he lured to the island are considered they prey. They will be hunt or be hunted by the wealthy man and his associates. (The Volturi) Until there is only one lone survivor. Can Bella and Edward's love still blossom in such a harsh and unforgiving environment? ALL HUMAN.
If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, I completely understand, but from writer to writer, I'm just looking for honest feedback in regards to my writing style. The plot of this story is actually a work of my novel I'm in the process of writing. I've just switched the characters with the characters of the twilight universe to get a new perspective of the story.
I'd like to thank all the readers who have supported my work over these past few years. You are all so wonderful! Thank you for your time and energy.
Thanks for reading! Leave a review if you'd like me to update!
