Chapter 14

Quest of Forgiveness

Right now, another beautiful morning had just started on the Boiling Isles. Birds were chirping, getting eaten by something bigger. In the kitchen of the Owl House humming was heard and the sound of cooking.

At the stove, Luz was wearing an apron she found with a little red heart on the front. She was frying up some bacon on one pan, and cooking eggs on another, while on a metal tray she was flipping over pancakes.

The sound of yawning was heard making Luz smile as she started putting food on some of the plates. Entering the kitchen was Eda with King hitching a ride in her hair.

Upon entering the Owl Lady raised an eyebrow. " Wait a minute, Luz? Your cooking? "

" Yeah, c'mon Eda sit down. I'm almost done. "

" Oooh yes! " King eagerly said as jumped out of Eda's hair and made his way to his seat. " Breakfast served right as you wake up! I think some of my traits of royalty are starting to catch back up! "

" Yeah, I don't think so. " Eda replied back cutting down his confidence as Luz gave them there plates and started digging in. " Mmm, this is pretty good. "

" Yes it is! I should have you be my personal chef! " King agreed as he was happily eating making Luz laugh a little.

" Yeah, that'll be the day. " She said before putting down a plate that was full pancakes, with plenty strands of bacon and a little bit of eggs on the side. Ultimately it was one big plate.

" Whoa..." Eda was surprised at how good it was. But seeing this made her stop eating. " Luz did you like sneak into my mind or something? "

" No why? " Her apprentice asked as she sat down to eat joining them.

" Because, making this many pancakes in the morning is exactly how I always served Evan's breakfast until I taught him how to cook for himself. Which was something I'm glad I did. " She then gained a teasing smirk. " Oh, I get it, your trying to put the moves on my boy huh? "

" What!? No I'm not! " Luz replied back chuckling nervously a bit. " This has a much different...purpose. " After she said this Evan had just entered the kitchen yawning away while stretching out his arms and made his way to the fridge greeting everyone while he walked by.

" Morning Mom. "

" Morning Evie. " Eda greeted back.

" Morning King.

" Morning. " King replied.

" Good morning. " Luz tried to greet him back but he ignored her as he went to the fridge to pour himself a drink. She was getting nervous. " Uh..I made you breakfast. "

" Hm? " Evan turned around and saw the plate. " Oh thanks. " Using his magic, he made the plate float and hover following him to the exit of the kitchen.

" Aren't you gonna join us? " Eda asked with a mouth full.

" Nah, I don't think so. I'm gonna be in my room for a while. There's something I need to check out. " He said before leaving making Luz sigh as she put her right knuckle underneath her chin as she started eating.

After he was gone, Eda and King looked over at Luz. " You two still haven't talked? " The owl lady questioned.

" No he hasn't... " Luz anwsered sadly. " He's only just said those three words alone. "

" Seriously? But's it been like two days now. " King commented in surprise. " Sheesh, he rarely gets that mad. I can't remember the last time he was like this. "

" This is what happened with Owlbert isn't it? "

Eda asked since the day afterwards Luz told her mentor to try and be honest with her while also hoping she'd probably give her a much lighter punishment. But in the end, Eda was fine with it, and gave Luz a list of chores for her to do as a fair punishment which Luz was okay with. But after with what happened, Evan hasn't been talking to Luz at all, he wouldn't acknowledge her, he wouldn't talk to her, nothing.

Luz only nodded her head. " Did you apologize? "

" I did, he forgives me for what happened. But I think with what happened two days ago was probably like the straw or something for him. "

Eda frowned for a minute while gulping down the last of her breakfast. " Luz, hold on a second. " She exited out of the kitchen for a moment and came back in holding a picture in her hand.

" I'm not trying to add more salt into this, but there's a reason why he'd still be mad at you. " Eda gave Luz the photo. In the photo was Evan as an infant wearing little gray pj's hugging Owlbert who had it's eyes closed indicating he was enjoying the attention he was giving him there was something else up against the baby to. Sleeping on his right was little black wolf with wings on it's back.

" Awww...Look at him... " She found the picture to be down right cute. " Huh? " She titled her head in confusion upon seeing the canine. " What's with the wolf? "

Eda leaned over to look. " Oh, that, that's Phil's Palisman, Lobo. "

" Your husband had a Palisman to? "

" Yep, he did. Most of us always had palismans. " Eda confirmed as she took the photo gazing down at it while smiling. " Compared to how I made Owlbert, from an ancient tree, Phil made Lobo from dead oak.

" Dead oak? "

" It's a really rare type of tree that only lives for only five days " She said putting on the table.

" So basically what your saying is I practically hurt something that's like a brother to Evan... " Luz said before laying her face down onto the table. " Oh no... " Her voice muttered. " What am I gonna do? "

Eda put a hand on her shoulder. " Look kid, I'll help you out with this. I'll try to talk to him. "

She raised up her head. " Really? "

" Hmhm. Luz, listen. I know my boy, so when I get to him, and let it sink in. Why don't you go out and clear your head a little before trying to talk to him again? "

Luz pondered in thought for a moment before speaking up. " I guess I could. " She admitted. " Yeah, that might be exactly what I need. Right after breakfast. "

And that's what she did, once breakfast was done and freshening up a little, Luz made her way into town. And

" Evan I know I messed up two days ago. But would you fi- " She paused going back into thought. " No, that's just to rushed...Evan, I am deeply sorry and I understand your worried about me but...but... " Luz groaned in frustration ruffling up her own hair. " Gah! I know Evan's just trying to look out for me and all that, but why does he gotta be so difficult!? It's been two days! " She quickly realized she was drawing in attention from the other inhabitants.

Feeling embarrassed with the little outburst, Luz quickly rushed forward to get out of that situation and started to take deep breaths. " Okay, okay, calm down Luz, calm down...Evan has a right to be mad just like you do... " She then paused going over to a nearby bench to sit down.

" Hmm...What's one thing Evan likes? " She asked herself and brought out a small notebook that was tucked into her pocket and brought out a pencil. " Alright, he likes adventures, movies, manga, food... " The girl listed tapping her chin with the pencil. " Oh yeah, he also likes spicy stuff for some odd reason. " She gasped gaining an idea.

" Maybe I can do that! I'll just find him something super spicy, that ought to help clear things up. " However the self enthusiasm fainted out afterwards realizing something. " Oh wait...I don't even know a thing about the food in this place at all! "

" Hey, long time no see. " A voice said drawing in Luz's attention to see someone she'd never thought she'd again.

" Hey I remember you! Your that fanfic girl! "

" Actually, my name is Gracie. " She corrected chuckling a bit since she got that same reaction from Evan. " But that's alright, I didn't tell you even after I broke out Luz. "

" Wait, how do you know my name? " Luz asked tilting her head in confusion. " Because I don't remember telling you mine at the 'you know what'. "

" Oh that's easy, Evan told me. "

" Wait, you talked to Evan? "

" Yeah, a few weeks ago. " She replied back and sat down. " So what are you doing here? "

" I'm...actually here to clear my head a bit. "

"On what? " Gracie grew curious. " Did something happen? "

" Yeah...something happened... " Luz anwsered back not pleased to admit it.

" Did you and Evan get into a fight or something? "

Luz shook her head. " No...I-I messed up, and I'm trying to make up for it. "

" Do you want to talk about it? " Gracie asked.

" No, I don't wanna trouble you. "

" Are you kiddin? C'mon I insist, plus just let me do this. It's the least I can do for you after you busted me out. " Gracie insisted.

At some local cafe, Gracie and Luz ordered a drink with a small treat on the side. The two of them were sitting in a booth at the very end where they could talk. Just right now, Luz told her exactly what happened two days ago.

Gracie whistled a bit. " Wow...You took on the Bat Queen just get him back? "

" Yeah. I never meant to Owlbert, honest. "

" I believe ya, but that's still kind of irresponsible. No offense. "

" Non taken, your right. "

" But, it's admirable your trying to make up for what you did. " Gracie added making a decent point. " Most of the time, we just can't because our pride gets in the way or something else. So, do you have anything in mind of trying to get back into his good side? "

" Actually I was thinking of maybe try and get him something he likes. "

" Oh yeah? Like what? "

" Well, Evan does love spicy food. So I was thinking maybe I could find something he'd like. "

" Oooh, he's one those huh? " Gracie was absorbing what was just heard and went into thought snapping her fingers. " Well, I think I might know something that can help you out. "

" You do? "

" I said 'I might'. " Gracie repeated. " So I'm not exactly sure. It's up to you though if you wanna hear it. "

" I do. Tell me! " Luz insisted leaning in a bit.

" Okay, now listen closely. Apparently there's an extremely rare fruit called FernoBliss. It's supposed to have a taste so hot some say it rivals that of a dragons flame. The only grow out in the Lava Pond. "

" Where's that? "

" You'll find it about three miles away from the center of the island. Do you got a piece of paper on you? "

" Yeah... " Luz passed Gracie her note book and pencil after a little of doodling and extra measures. Gracie handed back Luz the note book and on one of the pages was a very small yet very easy to readable map. " Will I find it there? What am I supposed to look for? "

" The fruits not hard to miss. The trees growing there are fire proof, the wood itself can't even be burnt by the lava itself. Here let me see that again... " Gracie took back what she just used and drew a round piece of fruit with what was shaped like flames all around it. " That's you'll be looking for. When there red that means there still ripe, when there yellow it means there bad. But what you want, is a orange one. It means there ready to go to be eaten. "

" Before you go exploring the pond, look for a friend of mine name Ottis. He's always hanging out with his pals getting themselves tanned. Just tell him I sent you his way. He'll give you something you'll need. "

" Oh my gosh! Thank you-Thank you-Thank you! " Luz squealed happily as she got up from her seat to hug up on Gracie before running off. Only a second later came running back looking through her pockets.

" Don't worry I got the bill. " Gracie chuckling reassuring the human girl.

" Thank you! " After saying that for a fourth time she left. " Good luck! "

Back at the Owl House King was currently drawing pictures of demons for a possible new book. While doing so, he hummed in thought wondering if they were good enough.

He looked inside to see Eda pouring something inside a rather large mug and started to get more interested seeing that she added whipped cream. Afterwards she added in a gram cracker, cracked pieces of chocolate, and finally added in a marshmallow. When it got in there, Eda made a small spell circle making a small fireball appear. Using the heat, she let the marshmallow melt into the mug.

" Alright...there we go... " As Eda dusted off her hands, she turned around to grab something else. However upon doing so a loud slurp could be heard making her snap her head back around to see King gulping down what she just made. " King! That wasn't for you! "

The canine ignored her and gulped down the rest of the drink. " Whoops! My bad. " He burped loudly. " And wow! Since when you make refreshing delicious beverages? "

" That delicious beverage was my key for helping me talk to my son. " The owl lady retorted back before bringing out another mug. " Great I have to start all over. "

" Eda, I don't get it. I mean, I get that Luz is your first and only apprentice, but what they had is between them both, isn't it? "

Eda gained a worried expression. " Yeah it is...But... "

" But what? " King noticed her change in demeanor making the owl lady sigh rubbing her temples a bit. " I don't want Evan to lose this. "

" Why would Evan lose what he has with Luz? I mean, they've been good friends since they met each other. "

" That's exactly why I'm doing this. " She said firmly. " King, look you and I both know that Evan, isn't exactly a very social with other witch's and warlocks his age. "

" Understatement. " The canine commented agreeing with what she was saying. " He's not very open about trusting others, either. "

" Yeah I know... " Eda said finishing up what King slurped down earlier. " And when he does find someone trust, he starts to doubt. "

" Honestly Eda, I really don't think he's doubting his trust with Luz, if he did, then he'll never be talking to her, much less that other witch and warlock. " King said reffering to Willow and Gus.

" No, I know my boy. " Eda said confidently as she melted another marshmallow. " Evan is only worried about her, and I've never seen that side of him in a long time. He's only like that with those he considers family. "

" You know speaking of family, this reminds me of something. "

" What would that be? " Eda raised an eyebrow.

" When you and Phil argued. "

She waved him off. " Pff, well yeah, that's true we had our disagreements, but it's part of being married, just as long as you can settle things. "

" I already know that. But I heard what Evan said to Luz, he did the same thing Phil would to do ya, if you did something stupid.

" Yeah he did do that...Guess that's another thing he got from his old man. " Eda confirmed before going up the stairs with the sugarfied beverage in her hand. For a moment she gained a solemn look gazing at a photo showing the two as teenagers sitting on a bench with the camera angled snapping a pick at a beautiful sunset smiling a bit remembering that event all to well. " And I really wish he was here right now, to talk to him. "

Meanwhile with Luz.

After much walking and following the map Luz was now making her way through more open part of the island. The way she knew this was because as she started going in a certain direction the area around her started to feel warm. So by using her own body as a locator, she had had found a large clearing, all around her were rocks with glowing orange veins and there was steam shooting out of the ground like fountains.

" Phew... " Luz wiped some sweat off her brow. " I gotta be getting close...Cause it just keeps getting hotter... " She grabbed a canteen and took a sip of water to help out. Sighing in satisfaction she then noticed a large hill in front of her. Carefully watching her step, Luz mad her way up to glance at something she'd only usually see in movies and games.

In front of her was a massive lake of lava, all around it were large patches of rocks, for those brave enough to travel here to walk through. Seeing real lava up close in person like this was beyond crazy, but at the same time amazing as well. Only a few could ever dream of getting the chance to see this.

" Whoa...It's...actual lava...Lot different then I expected since I've only seen them in video games and tv, not to mention books. " Luz noted before taking a deep breath and exhaled out." Alright, Luz. You can do this. Remember, why you're doing this. " The human girl told herself to have a boost of confidence, even if it was only was a small amount.

Despite the heat from this place and how much her hoodie was getting soaked with sweat Luz went down the hill while doing so she spotted a building in the distance. Figuring someone else had to be here, she rushed over to it. Much to her surprise it was a snack shack, and after getting closer she then realized that there were other witches and warlocks, including all sorts of weird demons. All in all, it was like a much more weird version of a beach.

" Wow...This is popular. "

" It's what to expect... " The vendor of the shack said. He resembled a cross mix between a snake and a cat for some odd reason. " Some like water, others like molten lava. "

" Why? "

" Eh, mostly because of the shows that go on. "

" Like what? "

" Volley ball, Rock Chuckin' and rarely if your lucky enough, you get to watch dragons fight over territory. " The vendor raised an eyebrow. " You new around here huh? "

" Uh yes, I am. "

" Heh, well, you look like your about to dry out. " Turning around he brings out two bottles of water. " Here ya go, on the house. "

" Wow, thank you so much. " Taking the offer she opened one up and started to take little sips. " Oh yeah. Um, weird question? I'm trying to look for someone? Could you help me? "

" I'll bite. Who you lookin' for? "

" Someone by the name of...Uh... " She snapped her fingers a couple of times trying to remember what she was told. " What was it? What was it? Otis...Yeah, that's right. Otis, I'm looking for someone named Otis! "

" Oh that guy? Yeah, you'll find him over there at the chairs. " He jabbed his thumb over to the side. " There not to hard to miss. "

" Thank you again. " With the lead given Luz made her way over to the chairs, which were all full of small tanned lizards just relaxing around.

" Um excuse me? " She asked getting in front of them making the reptiles groan in annoyance.

" What do you want? "

" Yeah, get out of the way, your blocking the sun. "

" Sorry... " She stepped aside." Um...I'm looking for someone called Ottis? "

One of the lizards in the middle raised its sunglasses. " Who's asking? " The lizard questioned. " Do I know you? "

" No you don't...But, Gracie told me to find you. "

" Did she now? " The lizard inquired taking off his shades as he sighed. " Okay, spit it out what do you want? "

" Would you mind pointing me in the right direction where FeroBliss is at? "

The lizard chuckled a bit. " Heh, no offense, but I don't think I should. "

" Oh come on! "

He laughed at her reaction. " Relax, relax, I was just messing with you. " Getting up Otis leaned over to a small container brining out six red colored seeds. " Here I f you want to find try and find FernoBliss, then you better take these. "

" What are they? "

" Heat Seeds. As you get further into the lava pond, it'll only get hotter as you go. Which is where the fruit will grow If you go in any further without magic, you'll die from heat exhaustion. As you progress be sure to eat one, it'll help your body tolerate the heat, but only for a certain amount of time. But do be careful, you have to make every seed count. As for where you gotta go, head down that cave... " He said pointing over to a pathway that lead to a cave.

" Yeah, I got it thank you! " With that said Luz ran off and Otis sat back down on his chair.

" You know she's going to die right? " The tanned lizard sitting next to him said. " Eh...we'll see. "

Back at the Owl House Evan was inside of his room. On the young warlocks desk was a map of the the entire island, and right now Eva was trying to decipher something engraved on the Warp Key itself. While doing so, a knock was heard on the door.

" Who is it? "

" It's me. " Eda replied back. " Evan? Can I come in? "

" Go ahead. " Evan sighed now figuring would be a good time to take a break, turning around to face his mother and eyed the mug she had in her hands.

" Was I interrupting something? "

" Nah, I was just taking a break trying to decipher this Warp Key. "

" That's the same one Bat Queen gave you didn't she? "

" Yeah, it is. "

" And your sure she didn't know who left it to her? "

" No. Just only a note, instructed on her giving it to me. Which is...weird, isn't it? "

" It is...Also, here. " She passed him the beverage which he accepted. Before talking, she let her son drink, knowing full well he was easier to talk to now.

" Evan...you already know what I'm going to say right? "

" I do... " He confirmed in a very unenthusiastic letting her continue. " Well I'm going to say it anyways. You know Luz is very sorry for what happened... "

" I know... " Evan continued to drink.

" Then what's the problem? It's been two days. "

He glanced over to his mother for a moment and glanced back down at his reflection. " Mom, tell me how many times has she gotten herself into trouble? "

" Plenty. " Eda anwsered.

" And who's usually there to bust her out of it? "

" You and me. " She anwsered. " But half of the time, you... "

" Exactly! " He exclaimed pointing at her. " It's almost getting to the point where when she screws up she expects me to just use magic to make all of her problems go away! " The young warlock exclaimed in frustration. " I mean you'd think she'd learn her lesson after swapping bodies with you. "

Eda shivered a bit remembering the said event. " Please don't remind me. I just want to forget that ever happened... "

" You know Evan, what you and Luz have is something like what I got with your dad. "

Hearing this caught his attention looking over to his mother. " How so? "

" Well...One thing was we had completely different personalities. And a lot of people didn't think we'd make it for very long. "

Evan thought about it for a moment before commenting and shrugged his shoulders." Eh, I'm not surprised. Most people who have different personalities sometimes isn't a good thing. "

Eda narrowed her eyes at Evan, and smacked him behind the head. " Ow! " The one eyed warlock rubbed where he got hit. " What the hell wa- " Eda smacked him again. " C'mon knock that shi- " Eda smacked him for a third time.

" You gonna stop back talking me? " Eda questioned raising an eyebrow. " I'm trying to make a point. "

" Well, sorry mom, but I ain't seeing it. "

" The point is Evan, being different can be a good thing. And yeah I understand where your coming at with this. Believe me, I've had arguments like this with your dad, it's true. We've both done stupid stuff making each other worry. And don't say what's going on between you is not different, because it ain't. "

" Well what am I supposed to do then? "

" Just try to have a little more faith in her, she puts a lot of faith in you, why can't you do the same? "

" Your trying to tell me put more faith in Luz even if she does something stupid and dangerous? "

" Sometimes it is what it is. " Eda shrugged her shoulders while getting up. " She knows that you look out for her and by knowing that she'll look out for you to. The bottom line is, you know full well when to intervene when it comes down to it. But Evan, your both gonna have to talk it out. Alright? "

" Yes mam'. " Leaning down she pecked her sons head and made her way out taking the drink she made for him.

Back at the Lava Pond Luz had gotten quite a way from where she first started. As she traversed father and farther into the volcano like region, the heat was really starting to get to her. Sweat was drenching down her forehead, and her hoodie was soaked.

" Okay...This is getting a bit much... " Luz said in between breathing and panting before pausing to drink some water. " Better take one of those seeds. " She reached into her pocket and pulled one out. Quickly when she popped it into her mouth, her body started to cool down a bit, and the heat she was feeling rapidly decreased.

" Wow...He wasn't kidding...These things work good. Okay... " She proceeded to bring out the map she was given. " Now let's see where I am... " While she was examining it, a large shadow suddenly casted over including a few drops of water. Making her gasp in shock. " Oh no! Boiling Rain! " As she braced herself for possible pain, she was instead met with a very foul odor. She sniffed the air. " Wait a minute...that's not rain... " Raising her head she looked up to see a very tall large red ogre which was freaking dripping sweat like a waterfall.

Upon seeing it, Luz freaked out screaming, jumping away and desperately wiped away whatever dripped onto her. Luz put a hand against her heart to try and calm herself down. " What are you doing standing behind me like that!? "

" I was just walking by and seeing what you were doing? " The ogre shrugged his shoulders.

" I was just looking for something...Also...why are you sweating so much? "

" Cause I look to. " He replied back making Luz cringe from how really gross that was. Despite this, the monster didn't seem to care. " So what are you looking for? "

" I'm looking for FernoBliss. "

" Oh FernoBliss? Yeah, I know where that is. I'm looking for it to. "

Luz got excited upon hearing this. " Really!? "

We now see the two of them walking up into straight into higher ground. " It's right down there. " He said pointing down passing a pair of binoculars. Quickly wiping off the sweat with her sweat shirt, Luz looked through the binoculars she saw a crimson red fruit with green outlines hanging from a black tree.

" That's it! That's it! That's what I'm looking for. " She said passing them back over to ogre who looked through it humming in thought and grinned.

" You know...since there's only one. Do you know that means?

" Um...We work together to get it? " Luz asked not realizing what was going to happen.

" Nope, we race and the winner takes the fruit! "

" Wait what!? " Luz turned over to him with a surprised expression. " Seriously!? That's not cool! I thought we were friends!? "

" Life's not cool and Ready set go! " He pushed Luz down onto the ground laughing away in the process like a little spoiled child while Luz growled and with determination she sprung back up on her feet.

" You jerk! "

" I'm a humble proud jerk! " The ogre replied confidently.

Back at the Owl House Evan had just finished deciphering the runes of the Warp Key. After much time, he finally pin pointed the location of where it could be used. He couldn't help but wonder where it could take him. But that, just made it more exciting to think about.

" Well, at least now I know where to have some fun before I have to go that dump... " Evan commented both happily and bitterly, the last word referring to Hexside. While doing so, he noticed something out of the corner of his eye, right underneath his bean bag chair. Standing up he went over and saw that it was one of Luz's Azura books, and there was a piece of paper sticking out.

In curiosity, Evan took the paper out and unfolded it. He smiled a bit seeing it was a drawing of Luz herself resembling her favorite character standing alongside a wizard with an eyepatch. He instantly knew she drew him. Evan couldn't help chuckle a bit, before sighing putting the paper back into the book. Leaving his room, he made his way to Luz's room and knocked on the door.

" Luz? You in there? I'm coming in. " He opened the door and she wasn't in there much to his confusion as he placed the book in her collection. " Huh, where is she even at? " He questioned himself and noticed the mess that was in there before making a spell circle to make all the clothes on the floor fold up by themselves floating onto the sleeping bag. " Sheesh, she really could pick up after herself and...maybe get a bed? " He closed the door and went down stairs to find King fast asleep on the couch.

" King, wake up. "

" No... "

" King... "

" Meh? " He opened his eyes. " What? What do you want? "

" Have you seen mom? "

" Nah, Eda's taking a nap. "

" Okay, then could you at least tell me where Luz is at? "

" She went out to town. "

" How long ago was this? "

" I don't know...Now let me go back to sleep! " King said before doing so making Evan groan as he whistled and right on que Eda's staff came flying into his hand. Owlbert awoke hooting as his way of asking a question.

" Mind helping me out a bit bud? " The little owl warbled in response.

Back at the Lava Pond Luz's race against the sweating ogre was intensifying as montage had now started.

First we see Luz carefully jumping from one rock to another while nearby the ogre was humming as he swam through the lava itself much to the girls shock.

Next up she was holding herself up against a cliff while down bellow the ogre whistled gaining her attention and waved mockingly making Luz grit her teeth in anger.

After that we see Luz running across the ground with a river of lava right beside her on the other side, the ogre was right up there next to her, both were neck to neck with one another.

Both were running with all their might, and do to their intense focus, the ogre tripped making Luz go. " Hahaha! " She said before skidding to a halt seeing there was no more path way for her to run.

" Hahaha! To you! " The ogre exclaimed jumping over easily while Luz spotted a nearby rock that was submerged in the lava. Knowing there wasn't going to be another way she jumped getting onto it and quickly dashed off jumping over to a ledge quickly climbing up to try and catch up.

Finally after much effort and running the prize laid out before her. The fruit and the tree it was hanging off of was across the over side of a pool of lava filled with actual abomination made out of lava. Each of them, groaning and moaning as they aimlessly walked around.

" Okay, Luz your almost there. Now you just gotta, make your way across one last death course... " She said chuckling nervously while nearby the ogre dived into the lava and slowly started making his way to the tree. But as he did, he un knowingly drew the attention of the lava abominations that started walking towards him.

The ogre's struggle could be just exactly the break Luz needed! She had to think of something to help her get across. The human girl panicked looking around for anything, and much to her luck, she did find something. It appeared to be some sort of old flag hanging on a rock. Quickly grabbing it, Luz made sure there were no rips much to her relief.

" Alright...Now what? " She asked herself and heard a loud hiss making her turn around to see a large geyser of steam shooting out of the ground. Looking back at what she had and the geyser she gained a very stupid idea, but it was the only thing she could think of. She didn't have Evan, or Eda to help her out with magic, so right now this was her moment.

Luz had just finished trying the corners of the flag together in tight knots. And rushed up to get above the geyser and not to far off she saw the ogre was getting closer to the fruit.

However as she was going to do so, Luz stopped in her tracks. For some reason at that moment, she remembered Evan's words.

" When the last time you did something and not think on ahead? " His voice echoed. " When was the last time you ever considered what if things don't go as planned and the possible end result that could very well possibly effect those that care about you? "

She was utterly frozen in her tracks and even as the ogre grabbed the fruit and ran off with it she didn't even flinch of try to call him out. But instead she just stood there and let the flag fly away. Even if she did, manage to get herself over there, the risk was just to great. One wrong move and she wouldn't make it to see tomorrow. For what was most likely the first time in a long time, Luz was actually going into thought, very serious thought as she dropped on her knees.

" What am I even doing here? " She asked herself. " This is exactly what he was talking about... "

As she was dwelled in thought she was unaware that someone in particular cleared his throat. She turned her head over to the right and saw that it was her best friend flying on Owlbert giving her a stern look.

" Evan... " Even though how mad he was, Luz couldn't be more glad to see him right now. " I... "

" Just get on Luz... " He didn't let her finish talking making it very clear to Luz that he wasn't very pleased on how he found her. So instead of saying anything else, she got onto the staff.

About one hour later, the way back to the Owl House had been very quiet. Neither warlock or human spoke to one another, that was until Evan spoke up, but in a much more calm tone, which was the result of not talking for a while during the ride home.

" What the hell were you doing? "

" I just needed a little time to think...

" And are you satisfied? " The one eyed warlock questioned.

" No...How did you find me? "

" I went looking for you in town, and ran into Gracie. "

" She told you everything didn't she? " Evan only hummed in response giving her anwser. " Look, I'm not the mood right now, but, Luz, what you did was to freakin stupid. "

Luz lowered her head down a bit. " And your right... " She admitted much to his surprise. " You're absolutely right...what I did was stupid...I was even willing to risk flying over molten lava, which... would not have ended well at all...I seriously would've died... "

"..." Evan paused for a moment glancing back at her. " I appreciate that your trying to own up to your mistakes, but, Luz, just stop. Okay, Don't do anything stupid for my sake. "

" I know...and...I'm sorry...I...I just want things to go back to the way they used to be...I never meant to hurt Owlbert, I never meant to betray your trust...I really mean it... "

" Luz, I'm sorry...But, I need a little more time... "

" No, that's okay. You can take as much as time as you need to... " Luz reassured him before sighing. " Evan, your my best friend, and I don't want to do anything else to ruin that...So, from now on, I promise to try and listen to what you said... "

" You mean that? "

" I do. I really do... " Luz anwsered honestly before dozing off which was an obvious result from exhaustion. Even though she was clinging onto him, Evan didn't mind it, not one bit. She earned it.

Even though he'd probably never say this out loud, but on that one day alone, Evan's respect for Luz increased a lot that day. It takes a lot of guts and not very bright thinking to do try and do what she did. Normally, at the end of the day, Luz would be celebrating over her victory of the day. But instead, she threw in the towel, knowing full well she couldn't win. While sometimes it's not good to lose, it's necessarily a bad thing either, especially when you get live to fight and live another day.

While he flew, Evan remembered something, his dad told him when he was little. " Time sometimes just gets away from us, at certain points in our lives. But learning through that life and treasuring precious moments, is just as important. " Evan couldn't help but admit, ' Ain't that the truth? '
