Inspired by Adam Kadmon's Substitute Invasion, similar premise but I'm more neutral, just wanna give credit where credit is due, might make some changes her or there. Might switch tendency of characters, from their Manga version to their Anime versions, I like to mix the too, and I know a lot of you hate the Manga and Rebuilds so I'll shy away from excessively expressing them in that manner, but I personally love the Manga, a bit iffy on the Rebuilds doe.

Once again I Appreciate you for even so much as looking at what I wrote, appreciate every review or comment, thank you and you da man.

Update- Dialogue has been fixed, as much i could with the little time i have, changed some of the grammar but the story is still the same.

19th of August - spacing again, this text editor just doesn't like me. Keep in mind when i first began writing this 3.0+1.0 had not been released but i k ew certain elements that were going to occur, which i guess made some people angry, my apologies.

BEGIN

Morning, another boring day in class with the teacher rambling on and on about second impact.

it's always the same thing. Shinji thought "But I'd rather this then an angel attack though." He spoke in an undertone.

Time passes by and after an extremely long lecture, the bell rang and as they were about to leave, the teacher stopped them

"Apologies everyone." The teacher spoke "this is a bit of a late introduction, but we have new student and she had a bit of trouble getting here. This is-" and as the teacher spoke, SHE walked in through the door. And there in our presence stood the figure of Asuka. The whole class stood in shock.

Here they are seeing an exact replica, a facsimile.

"There are two devils?" Toji said, Asuka would be offended but "what the fu-"

"Asuka?" Shinji asked, "Yes, Idiot Shinji" Asuka(Shikinami) replied.

This is downright horrendous, terrifying, Asuka(Soryu) thought, and whilst she was processing this, Shinji had pointed Shikinami towards the other Asuka(Soryu), "We have another girl, who kinda… well, she looks exactly like you."

Soryu then gave him a conceited look. "You Idiot." She said "SHE looks like ME, not the other way around."

Ending on that note, Soryu moved past her table and confronted her counterpart directly. Face to face, side to side, they could now make out whatever discernible differences there were. The Asuka Shinji knew, up until this point had a darker shade of auburn hair, whereas this new one's hair was lighter, and fair, almost tame, same could be said about the colour of their eyes, but they were somewhat the same height.

"Well." Shikinami said, "I'm Asuka." she emphasized "Asuka Langley Shikinami." She wrote on the board similar to how Soryu did when she first came to the school.

Adding insult to injury, she mimics me perfectly. Soryu thought.

"Shikinami huh, so what-" Toji intervened "you two long lost sisters' or something?"

"As far as I know I don't have a long lost twin sister." Soryu replies "Neither do I." Shikinami says back. Now Soryu and Shikinami were at a stalemate, staring each other down until-

"Well, it's nice to meet you Asuka." Shinji said, casually approaching Shikinami, but neither Asuka were pleased.

Kensuke and Toji, grabbed Shinji by the shirt, "let's get outta here man." Toji whispered, "What?, what I do.",Shinji asked, with which they both reply, "Not now dude, not now."

Some Time passed, and though Shikinami just transferred here, she was somewhat Antisocial, she spoke to a few other students here and there but it seemed she'd rather enjoy the company of her Nintendo Switch, that's weird Asuka thought, she isn't anything like me…but then again, she somehow is. I mean how could there be another me, I am the best after all, wonder if she believes that too.

"Asuka?", a voice said out of the blue, causing Soryu to turn around, "Oh Hikari.", Soryu notices, "Yep that's me." Hikari responds.

However Asuka's gaze was focused on Shikinami, "You know you're strangely fixated with that girl Shikinami.", Hikari said

"I mean wouldn't you be if you saw someone who looked exactly like you.", Soryu replied, "Fair point.", Hikari said as she sat down next to Asuka(Soryu),

"She's somewhat like me, but, not really y'know.", Soryu said after a while.

"Think we should go talk to her?" Hikari asked, "make friends?", Asuka(Soryu) was unsure about that request, but as she contemplated, Shinji had decided to approach Shikinami first, Asuka took notice and just like that, "Yeah let's go", she said "Okay." Hikari replied with a smile.

Shinji in the meantime, had tried to converse with Shikinami, "Hey uhm, Asuka.", Shinji spoke, causing Shikinami to look up from her switch. and by the sight of his eyes, Shinji was somewhat struck, the similarity is indeed almost frightening, if it hadn't been for the existence of the other, you could never tell them apart.

"Oh it's you" Shikinami said, "Yeah." he replied as he put his bag down, unzipping it, but as he was doing so,

Shikinami asked him, in a rather stern manner, "What are you doing?"

"Oh", Shinji said as he looked up "I noticed that you hadn't eaten anything much Today, and if you're anything like my Asuka then-",

"Your Asuka", Shikinami interrupted him, "Oh no." He replies "That's not what I meant, but, she usually forgets to pack her lunch and I thought maybe…" She bore that same conceited look on her face "You're such an idiot, I'm not her y'know." Shikinami said,

"I know but-" before he could finish, Shikinami interrupted him once again "please stop Idiot-Shinji." (baka-shinji)

At this point she had also expected that Shinji would be disheartened, but Instead of dejection, he was smiling, "What?" Shikinami inquired, "Did I say something funny?",

"No nothing" he said, chuckling a bit, "Here's some lunch", he handed the box over to her and she, reluctantly, took it, expressing afterword's a hint of gratitude. Shinji now stood up "Guess I'll head back" He said with a smile "Nice meeting you Asuka."

"Same." Shikinami poutingly replied, chewing food with her mouth.

As Shinji turned back, he was encountered by a rather annoyed Soryu, "Oh, Hey Asuka, I guess you wanna meet...Asuka...to?", He slowed on his words, considering that sentence.

"Maybe" Soryu replied "So what are you gonna eat Idiot?", Now questioning him, but Shinji was quick to respond, "luckily I made some extra food. I still have some if-", Soryu cut him off "I'm fine, nice seeing ya shinji." indicating that he go away.

Shinji didn't know what was going on, but since Asuka was insisting that he leave, he did exactly as she implied, and went off to meet Kensuke and Toji.

Now she had business to get to, "So Asuka-" Soryu confidentially said to her counterpart, "We are quite similar you and I since we have a lot in common, I believe we should be friends." She extended her hand towards her, but Shikinami wasn't for it.

"What exactly do we have in common, except our looks?", Shikinami inquired, "Well don't you believe that you're the best?" Soryu replied, "I do, that's why I'm better off on my own.", Shikinami retorted.

"Whilst that can be true, you can't do everything on your own.", Soryu said to her counterpart, but, "I believe I can," Shikinami once again retorted,

"Well you can't", Soryu insisted, "Yes I can", Shikinami persisted, "No you can't", Soryu was getting annoyed and so was Shikinami

"Who are you to be telling me what I can and can't be?", a frustrated Shikinami questioned.

"I'm Asuka-", but before Soryu could finish, Shikinami interrupted her, "Langley Soryu, I know, you confidently sprout that out to everyone because we all need to know how good you are, we get it, but what are you hiding behind those walls princess, what's beneath all that bravado." Oh no Hikari thought,

Soryu was displeased and now beyond annoyed with Shikinami's ill behaviour, "Yeah, I guess." Soryu said holding back her anger, and looking away from her, but after a quick sigh, Soryu asked her counterpart

"What's like being Alone Asuka," Shikinami looked directly to her, now with both of them facing one another eye to eye, Soryu continued, "I mean, I wouldn't know, I've been very sociable with people, so I'm not some egoist loser who spends all my time playing video games, to escape reality"

"How dare-", but before Shikinami could finish, Soryu cut her off, "How dare I what Asuka? what are you afraid of, why won't you leave your shell, why can't you trust other people?"

"Don't assume to know me!" Shikinami went in for a slap, but Soryu took grasp of her wrist in motion and took hold of her other arm too. "And Don't Assume to know me." Soryu replied.

They were in a struggle of wills until Shikinami forced her way out of Soryu's grip. Now both of them stood there determinedly, another stare down, until Shikinami eventually turned her face away "I'm leaving." she said.

And Asuka(Soryu) watched as her counterpart walked away, she also now stood abjectly, "I don't think we can be near each other, let alone be friends.", Soryu said, but Hikari felt sad for Asuka, "It's a shame really, you two are so alike, you could've bonded.", she sighed

"I think it's because we're both so alike we might have troubling bonding…nobody can hurt you more then yourself." Soryu responded. "But she isn't you Asuka.", Hikari said, but Asuka(Soryu) couldn't reply to that statement, because she herself was unsure, after all strange things can happen when it comes to NERV, and maybe, just maybe… "I'll try again tomorrow." Soryu said, "Let's go."

From a distance the three stooges saw this happen and it affected Shinji the most, would I be able to live with myself he thought, "Two Devils don't make for heaven that's for sure." Toji said, "You might be right there." Kensuke replied.

At the end of the day it was time for them to go back home, Shinji would usually walk home with Asuka, but being that there are two of them he remains unsure, he really wanted to get to the bottom of this Shikinami girl, but couldn't really leave his Asuka on her own, not after today. Shinji doubted it but, he approached Rei, "Hey uhm Rei.", "Pilot Ikari." She so softly responded, "You wouldn't happen to know anything about the New Asuka would you?" Shinji asked, afterwards Rei shook her head,

"This Shikinami character is a mystery even to me." Rei replied "I know not of her origin and she seems to be somewhat different then you or Pilot Soryu.",

"different how?" Shinji asked, "I do not know." She replied.

"Not even you huh.", he said in response, "I'm afraid not." Rei finished.

"Hey Shinji, let's go home already" This was Asuka Langley Soryu speaking, "Yeah I'm coming." He said to Asuka, "pleasure talking to you Rei." as Shinji left, Rei stood there and watched as Shinji walked off with Asuka, and the other Asuka(Shikinami) heading in somewhat similar direction.

"So what do you think off that Asuka Langley Shikinami girl?" saying that out loud Shinji realized how weird that really sounded, especially since he was talking to well, Asuka.

Asuka(Soryu) scoffed, "Nothing more than a monstrosity created to replace me in case I die or get hurt.", she said with anger and disgust, leaving Shinji rather concerned.

"You'd think they'd really do that?", He asked, "You idiot." she replied, she left him on that note,and they didn't talk much after that, until Asuka(Soryu) rather annoyed, finally spoke

"We're expendable, shinji…or rather yet, I'm expandable.", she said, "what do you mean?",Shinji asked,

"the commander is your father and Rei is his favorite, Misato only cares about you and Kaji doesn't even look at me, even he caters to you more then me, compared to you guys I'm-", Shinji had enough hearing this, so "don't say that about yourself Asuka!" He cut her off,

"Just don't." He continued, and this caught Asuka by surprise, "You're strong, not like me, who's weak. You're one of the best I've ever know and you have a will that pushes you forward." What am I even saying, but I have to try something, "I…I don't know about any of that NERV business, but to replace you they'd have to be crazy, at least that's what I believe anyway." What's going on here, "Shikinami is cool and all but nothing can beat the Asuka I know. You're not expendable, you're a great asset, and my…well my friend"

Asuka still surprised by that act of his, remained silent for a while, although it wasn't much and it didn't really alleviate her pain, it did put a tiny smile to her face, "hmph" She said, "you really are an idiot…thanks Shinji." Shinji smiled back at her, "You know this is the longest we've ever held a decent conversation.", He said kinda laughing.

"Don't ruin it." she replied, they walked back home in comfortable Silence.

Upon arrival and entry, they got down to the evening basics, shower, cook, watch tv, homework etc. it was late when they both heard a knock on the door and Misato's sudden entry.

"I'm homeee" she announced as she took off her shoes and walked in

"mmm Shinji what's for dinner?" she asked,

"Nothing much." He replied, "Just rice and miso soup, with some pork and chicken."

"Nice!" she exclaimed whilst patting him on the back, "Hey Misato, I've been meaning to ask you a question." Asuka said coming in from the other room, "oh yeah what is it?", "At school there was this girl that looked like me, like scarily like me, She said her name was-", but Misato interrupted, "Asuka Langley Shikinami. Yeah I know.", she said

"WHAT!?" they both exclaimed, "Why didn't you tell us?" Asuka asked, "or at least me? The person whom she's impersonating.",

"She's not impersonating you." Misato replied,

"What are you talking about?", Asuka asked once more

"Well you see about that…"
