In a section far away from the commotion, Ultra was sitting down reading, his Perfect Link Nihilego reading from his shoulder.
"To summon a familiar is one thing; to form a lasting bond with it is another matter altogether." Ultra read. "As the spirit summoned normally has a much longer lifespan than the summoner, and goes through many of them throughout the centuries, one would have to become special in the eyes of the summoner. How this can be achieved varies from spirit to spirit, but some young summoners encourage trying to be friendly to the spirit. Many older summoners call this idea naive, but have noted that in many cases, this approach does produce greater results."
Ultra closed the book, contemplating the words.
"Hmm… actually, come to think of it, you haven't really told me about your time before we met, Nihilego." Ultra said. "Not that it matters, of course, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
The Ultra Beast lowered its head, in a motion that the trainer recognized as a form of embarrassment.
"Hey, I just said you don't have to tell me." Ultra said. "Sorry for bringing it up, I guess I just want our Ultra Burst to be better. We haven't really been able to do it since the Perfect Link Tournament and… I don't want you to get hurt again."
Nihilego let out a cry of thankfulness, giving Ultra the chance to rub the parasite's head. "You're welcome, Nihilego. It's what friends do, look out for each other."
"Well said." Neville spoke up as she and Klinsy appeared.
"Hello again Ultra." Klinsy added.
"Oh, hi Neville, Klinsy." Ultra waved, standing up. "How are you doing? Did you find Litty?"
"Well yes, but we saw her following after a few Pokémon that were holding bags of books." Klinsy said.
"Pokémon stealing books?" Ultra said in curiosity before he winced. "Oof, they'll be in for it when the golems find them. I wouldn't worry about-" he said before his comm started ringing. "Oh, sorry, let me take this." he said as he opened it up and took the call. "Hey, I'm listening."
"Ultra, we have a problem!" Ethox's voice said on the other side of the call. "Well, Subaru messed with one of the books to try and get a few Pokémon thieves caught, but we didn't know that the whole group takes the fall if one person breaks the rules! The golems are attacking us!"
"What?!" Ultra exclaimed. "Where are you, I'll get there as soon as I can!"
"Don't worry about us, we need to find the librarian of this place!" Ethox said. "Maybe we can explain the situation and get them to call off the golems!"
"And if they don't?" Ultra asked.
"Then we're in for a hard fight." Ethox said. "Quick, try and find them!"
"Okay, I'm on it!" Ultra said as he hung up and turned to the two girls. "Sorry, my friends are in trouble. I hate to ask, but could you help me find the librarian of this place?"
"Yes...we know where they are. We can lead you to them." Neville said.
"Just follow us!" Klinsy said.
They lead the lone trainer through the library before opening a fancy looking door. Behind it were a man and a young girl as they were surrounded with books.
"Seems they've already come to us." the man said.
"I know. It was about time they decided to visit." the girl said.
"Um… good afternoon, both of you." Ultra said. "You must be the librarians of this place, correct?"
"The Librarians and the creators of this place." the man said.
"So you've been told." Neville said.
"Right, of course." Ultra said. "Anyway…" he started before the girl looked him over.
"Hmm...yeah. I see. Mell, this is him. He's one of the guys who took out Eden!" the girl said.
"Are you sure, Mag?" the man asked.
"Definitely!" she said.
"(Eden, from the Sky Universe dungeon. Uh-oh, suddenly I have a bad feeling…) Uh, if I may ask… are Mell and Mag short for something?" Ultra asked.
"We are Mag Mell." they both said.
"One of the planes in the Irish Afterlife." Klinsy said.
"...Let me guess: you two were followers of Eden." Ultra guessed.
"Hardly. Eden was from the first generation. We're from the second." Mag said.
"Oh, so you knew them, but didn't follow him." Ultra corrected himself.
"There's normally only 5 beings in each generation." Mell said. "So far, counting us, there's only one other generation of paradises."
"So there's three generations, and 5 beings in each normally…" Ultra said. "What's the difference between generations?"
"Well...we honestly don't know. All we can tell you about ours is that we tend to blend with you humans in the human world." Mag said.
"Yes that is true, your paradise was often considered an island off the coast of Ireland, or a kingdom beneath the ocean." Klinsy said. "Some people thought it to be similar to Elysium."
"Wait, if I can ask an obvious question… Why are you librarians?" Ultra asked. "Wait… that's not important. Right now, I need to ask you two to call off the golems chasing my friends."
"But your friend ripped out a page from one of our books." Mell said, showing footage of Subaru doing the deed.
"Yeah, but he had a good reason for it." Ultra assured.
The trainer went on to explain the Pokémon stealing books off the shelves, and how Subaru ripped out the page to get the golem to chase after them.
"I think you're the one that doesn't understand." Mag said. "Ripping off the page is vandalization, no matter what the reason is. Rules are rules, no exceptions."
"Plus borrowing books and taking them out is not against the rules." Mell said. "New books can easily be created to replace the ones taken."
"How rude!" Klinsy said, gripping her Syega Orb Staff.
"Whoa, hold on!" Ultra said. "There's no reason to start a fight."
"Think about your friends though, Ultra." Klinsy said.
"We've had a bad feeling about this one." Mag said as two golems arrived and held back Klinsy.
"If you leave now, we will forget about this incident your friend caused and you all can go free." Mell said.
"Hmm. If you can create new books to replace the ones that were taken." Neville said as she read her red book. "Why go to all this trouble with so many rules?" she asked calmly with her constant frown.
"Taking books is one matter. Purposely destroying them is another." Mag said.
"...Just one more question, before I answer your deal." Ultra said. "What happens to people who break the rules when they're caught?"
"They would be ejected from the library and not be allowed back for a period of time." Mell said.
"So, put on a sort of probation, basically." Ultra said. "Okay...how about this? If you lift the golem manhunt, we promise Subaru will never set foot back in here."
"Hmm...yeah...I guess that could work." Mag said.
"Apologies in advance. According to his friends, he's always been known to be a little… dramatic." Ultra said.
10 minutes later, after the deal is explained to the rest of the group…
"So we can still roam but as long as Subaru doesn't come back in...yeah...I think we can work with that." Theo said.
"Sorry about this, the both of you. Subaru has a good heart, but...he can be reckless at times." Sachiko said.
"It's alright." Mell said. "There's no need for you to apologize on his behalf. He knows what he did."
"Still, though… What did those Pokemon even need these books for anyway?" Zacian asked.
"My best guess? They probably wanted to sell them for money." Legolia said.
"That they did." Litty said, walking in, the bags of books that were taken floating behind her.
"Litty! You got the books back from them!" Hope said.
"Well, these two easily could've replaced the ones they stole but…" Ultra said. "I think this works out."
"Come on, let's at least hear them out." Mayumi said.
"She's right. We were planning to sell off those books." Sneasel said.
"We heard the books in here could be worth a lot if sold off." Alolan Meowth said.
"Hmm… Let's see…" Raine said as she started looking through the entries. "If you were going to sell them off, it might at least be worth looking through their contents."
"She's got a point, while I'm not sure about the motive, depending on the material, there might be someone interested in what's written on them." Takeshi said.
"But you really shouldn't be stealing to start with." Pikachu said.
"We're sorry." the thieves said.
"Don't worry about it. Such knowledge from this place tends to be pretty hard to come by. Though, in my opinion, not exactly worth resorting to thievery." Jade C said.
"So you four wanted money huh? Well that's an easy solution. You should join our team then." Riolu said.
"Are you sure about this, Riolu?" Totodile asked.
"Of course...after all...there's no such thing as a truly evil Pokémon." Riolu said.
"Thank you! We'll do our best!" the four said.
"Our team continues to grow and grow with every passing day." Oshawott said.
"At this rate, your guild's gonna become an army." ZS joked.
"Well, now that we got this whole situation cleared up, what should we do now?" Moltar asked.
"Well, since we're good with Mag and Mell and the golems won't attack us, I don't see the harm in staying around and doing a little more reading." Hope said. "Long as we don't break any more rules, we can be here as long as we want."
"It might be worth it. There's so much to discover in this place." Francisca said.
"Yeah, I think the next dungeon can wait a bit." Simon said.
"Still, to think it was a false alarm. I was honestly pretty scared stiff for a moment." Rhatla said.
"Considering the look of those golems, I can't blame you." Scarlet said. "So, who's ready to continue our reading expedition?"
"Sounds like a plan." Jexi said.
