Chapter 1: Green like grass-Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past, creations of forgotten gods. Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. The creatures of Grimm, monsters which feed off of negative emotion, set their sites on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void. However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. Aura, a defensive shield around the body powered by one's soul. Semblances, a power unique to every individual powered by aura. And "Dust", a resource which contained the various forces of nature. With the wrath of nature and soul in hand, mankind lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life. But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone... darkness will return. So you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called "free world" and the "peace" you so love to foster... but take heed... there will be no victory in strength.
But perhaps victory is in the things you've long forgotten. Things that require a smaller, more honest soul.
The bells were ringing, signaling the start of the last class of the day there at Lantern Academy. A teacher walked in and sat at the front of his class. He slapped a slab of papers onto his desk, leveling his students with a disappointed glare.
"Today I'm going to pass out a form for future applications to schools. To see how you want to continue on with your future and whatnot." He ripped the set of papers from his desk and waved them around. "I honestly wonder why I should even giving it to any of you."
His students were starting to get annoyed at this. The two in the front had one elongating his hair and the other one collecting some form of stone around his bald scalp and skin. Which would be odd if they had been at many other schools but the thing about Lantern is...
The teacher threw the papers into the air with a smile on his face while joyfully yelling "Why bother, you're obviously here for the Huntsmen course." That sent the entire classroom in cheers and activating their semblances in a case of showing off. From one girl with a fire hand to another with elongated fingers and the one from earlier with pieces of stone armor on his body.
Lantern Academy was a lower level huntsman academy that worked alongside Signal academy and other combat schools. Their job was to set them up on what style they used, what weapon they made, and how to apply their semblances when they first came out. This goes on until the student is seventeen, from there they go on to another, more well equipped academy for another four years. If all is said and done they are then given their huntsman license to go work on jobs supplied to them by locals and the four kingdoms.
"Yes, yes your semblances are all well and impressive, but let's save them for combat class shall we?" The teacher raised his voice to try and calm down his class.
The boy with green hair raised his hand very timidly, not wanting to attract any attention to himself. He did not show off any semblance to the class, with the only other person not being…
Hey Teach," said the spiky blonde hair and wolf ears kid with his feet up on the desk in a condescending tone, "don't lump me in with the rest of these losers and nobodies. They'll be lucky to last a whole day inside a huntsmen academy but me, I'm the real deal." The boy in question had spiky blonde hair with red eyes. His school uniform has its top button undone, and a cocky smile was present on his face.
The other students in the room did not take kindly to his insult. "WATCH IT KATSUKI, YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN US!" This and a whole slew of retorts were thrown his way.
"Let's go! I'll take you all on" As evidenced by his response, the boy, Katsuki Bakugou, had no fear of his fellow classmates. Their teacher took a look at one of the papers on his desk that he had chosen not to throw.
"Well , you've got very impressive test results. Maybe you will be able to make it into Beacon, Katsuki." This comment caused the entire class to look at Katsuki in shock, whispering to one another over their teacher's words. Everyone in the class knew that Beacon was the hardest Huntsmen Academy to get into. Since the inception of the Huntsmen Academies 80 years ago, Beacon had consistently pumped out the greatest huntsmen of all four of the kingdoms. Its alumni were a veritable who's who of legends. And so, it was by far the most applied to academia in all of Remnant.
The shock only lasted for a second before whispers and tidbits flew about the classroom, all of them petting to grand hunter academy, Beacon. If you wanted to be a hunter and become extremely successful, that was where to go. However, the initiation for the hunter track was extremely difficult, and some of the students had died to try and pass it, though that seldom happened at all.
'Of course, Kacchan would be applying to Beacon, we've wanted to since we were kids,' thought the timid green haired boy. He again placed his head down by his desk, sighing as he did so, barely looking up towards the front of the room. 'I just hope he doesn't mention me.'
"And that's why it's the only academy worthy of me," remarked Katsuki, who, intent on basking in his classmates' shock, leaped up onto his desk. "I aced all the mock tests. I'm the only person from this school who could ever make it as a Huntsman! I'll become more popular than any Huntsman in history, including Toshinori, and my journey to the number one spot starts with Beacon Academy!" He finished with a full tooth smile proudly showing his heritage as a dire wolf faunus, a rare species that was seldom seen anywhere.
"Oh yeah, Izuku, you've also applied to Beacon, haven't you?" This brought Katsuki's boasting to a sudden halt, freezing at this news. The green haired boy, Izuku Midoriya, twitched after hearing this, letting out a slight squeak of fear, knowing what would come next. The entire class, which by this point was all eyes on Izuku, burst out laughing uncontrollably.
"He's kidding, right?" "Good grades alone won't get him in!" "He should just give up, honestly!" "You can't be a Huntsman with no semblance!" The entire class let out their disbelief at Izuku's goal, finding it outright impossible.
Izuku stood up slightly from his desk. "A-Actually, t-there's not a rule stating that someone needs a s-semblance to enroll. I-It's just t-t-t-t-that it's never been done bef-" Izuku didn't get a chance to finish his thought, as Katsuki slammed his right hand down onto his classmate's desk, using his semblance to explode it into pieces. Izuku was thrown back onto the floor, looking up at the ashy haired grenadier.
"Listen up, Deku," Izuku flinched at his insult nickname Katsuki said with a twisted look on his face, the smoke from his explosion lingering in the air around him, "of all the rejects in this damn school, you're by far the worst you Auraless wannabe! You really think any Huntsman Academy would accept you when they could have someone like me instead?!" Bakugo clenched his fist to emphasize his words.
"W-w-wait, I-I'm n-not trying to c-compete against yo-" Izuku says until looking up in total fear, backing as far away as he could until his back was up against the classroom wall. His weak frame was shaking uncontrollably, and he was furiously sweating. He looked down nervously, trying his best to avoid the deathly glare of his longtime tormentor. "I-its just, I-I've always wanted to be a huntsman since I was a little kid." He looked back up nervously, the slightest hope shining in his bright green eyes, "E-even though c-can't produce any aura, t-that doesn't mean I can't try, right?"
Katsuki responded with a full-toothed snarl at Izuku's enthusiasm. "You really think you would ever stand a chance as a Huntsman?! YOU'D GET MAULED DURING INITIATION!" Izuku looked back down, feeling completely dejected at Katsuki's cruel words, the rest of the class still laughing at their freckled peer. "Poor, useless Deku! This place is already a shitty excuse for a school! You really wanna drag its reputation even further through the mud?!"
"That's enough, Katsuki! Keep causing such negativity and you'll only be bringing more Grimm our way." Their teacher ordered, taking his time to actually interject. Katsuki turned around, making sure to give one last menacing glare towards his former childhood friend. Izuku sat there for a moment before slowly getting up, his face devoid of anything resembling happiness. He picked up his yellow backpack and moved to one of the spare seats towards the back of the room, as he no longer had a desk. For the rest of the day, he was quieter than a church mouse, reflecting on one of the saddest days of his life. School had just been released, and the heated topic from earlier had not been forgotten. By now everyone was starting to head home, but Izuku was still there packing up his materials and afterwards heading to grab his weapon from his locker. Huntsmen in training are allowed to carry their weapons on hand in case of emergencies such as Grimm attacks. He was just about to grab his journal about Huntsmen he took notes on but it was taken at the last second by Katsuki.
School had just released with a loud ring of the overhead bell, and the earlier incident from that morning had been all forgotten by almost everybody, including the teachers. By now everyone was staring to head home, but Izuku was currently checking the news on his civilian issue scroll or CIS.
The fight that had minorly impeded him on his way to school had gained a lot of traction with the public, especially with the debut of a new huntress Yu Takeyama her semblance was Gigantification, which allowed her to charge own height at will. She'd been allegedly passing through Vale at the time of the incident, and decided to help out and simultaneously make her debut before she went back to home city of Mistar. For some odd reason, he had a feeling that she and Shinji weren't going to get along very well, considering their personalities and the fact that Shinji was by far one of the most popular huntsman Anima.
"I'd better take some notes so that i don't forget anything later" Izuku said to himself, taking out Huntsman Journal 13 from his backpack, only to have it snatched out of his hands by none other then Katsuki with his uptunder and his ears partially flattened, quite literally looking down on his old childhood friend.
He shook the notebook around in his a little before deciding to speak. "I don't know what the hell you think you're doing, Deku, but don't think you can leave because we aren't done talking yet." He bared maliciously in his gaze.
"Whatcha got there, Katsuki? His diary." His two followers were standing behind him as they tried looking at what Katsuki stole from Izuku. Katsuki held the notebook over his shoulder to show them both the Title and designation of the journal.
They both laughed at Izuku's expense. "Huntsman notes book thirteen, hahaha, wow you must be pretty damn desperate to be taking notes Midoriya."
"H-ha ha, very f-funny guys. C-could you please give it back now, Kacchan" He asked hesitantly, reaching his hand to take it back.
Bakugou let out a small explosion on both sides of the journal leaving it singed and devoid of its former glory.
Izuku was shocked and backed up a little. "Now that's just cruel." Then he let out a panicked yelp when Katsuki turned and tossed it out the window, as if rubbing salt in his already burning wounds.
"Most great huntsmen show potential when they're very young. People look at them and just know that they're destined for something great. When I'm the only student to graduate from this shit show of a high school to Beacon Academy, they'll be talking about me like that. They'll know that I'm the next big thing. That's not ego talking, I'm just that good." He then placed his hand on Izuku's shoulder and activated his semblance to a smaller degree.
Izuku winced as the rising heat from his shoulder began to smoke.
"Here's a little advice from me, you damn nerd." Bakugo felt his face light up in a cruel matter of a smile. "Don't think about Beacon, don't even think about applying, or there will be consequences."
Izuku simply stood there as Katsuki and his unnamed followers started to make their way out of there wondering what he did in some past life to deserve all this.
Katsuki stopped at the door and looked back at the faunas boy and chuckled darkly a little before he started talking. "You know if you really wanna be a huntsman that badly, there actually might be another way. Just pray that you'll find yourself a cool semblance in the next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the academy!"
Izuku felt like he had had enough of this, his tolerance reaching the breaking point. His body shook angrily as he turned around to give Bakugou his mind once and for all.
Activating his semblance, Katsuki to let out steam and small explosions from his hand. "Well, got something to say to me punk?" He asked in a way that rewarded any kind of answer with bodily harm.
Izuku unclenched his fists, the will to fight back quickly dying inside him as he stared back down at the floor.
"That's what I thought." Said Bakugo, turning and leaving with his goons. Leaving
(five minutes later)
Izuku made his way down the stairs and was walking towards the courtyard outside their homeroom. His thoughts abuzz with his latest encounter with his worst tormentor
You can't just tell someone to kill themselves. What if he'd decided to jump? What then? Katsuki would be a motive of suicide and probably charged with an indirect murder.
He saw his journal in the pond by the building in the courtyard. The local Koi fish were closing in on it seeing it as something they could possibly eat. Yep, the world evidently seemed pretty content to piss on him.
"Give that back, it is not for you to eat." He said quickly grabbing it from the water, sending the fish swimming away from him. He let it air out a bit before looking through the pages to see if it was any good. It would still be functional in the future. The notes on the inside were still readable and noteworthy. It wouldn't be dry for a while so he set to carry it in his arm as to let it air out and not let it ruin the other materials in his backpack. "Damn it."
He then proceeded to the barracks to grab his weapons. Having entered he walked down until he was in front of his own locker, #0415. He typed in his pass code on his scroll and held it up to the lock before the door opened up with a pull. The weapon of a huntsman was one of the very few constants in the life of a huntsmen, a line spoken by retired huntsmen and famous weapon builder, Higari Maijima. His weapon was something he had pride in. It was a set of shotgun dust gauntlets They were both stylized in a black and green color scheme. His symbol itself was an Olympic style torch having his own felt sad at the thought. He remembered the day his mother and him were told the news

(Cue- Anguish of the Quirkless)
"Auraless? What do mean Izuku is Auraless?"
Izuku sat in the small doctor's office chair completely frozen, not even realizing he had dropped his treasured Toshinori Action Figure on the office floor. That day, Izuku and his mother, Inko Midoriya, had visited the local doctor's office for a routine checkup on the four-year-old child, only to have a bombshell dropped on them by their doctor.
"There must be some sort of mistake, are you totally sure sir?" Inko asked, her voice becoming slightly panicked. She was a slim woman with short, green hair pulled back into a small bun on the top of her head, letting her bangs and a large portion of the hair on the back of her head flow down around her neck. Her green eyes looked at the doctor with a mixture of confusion and sadness at the news bestowed upon her.
"Pardon my asking Ma'am, but your family has been able to produce aura for generation correct? Able to use semblances?" The doctor sat across from the two Midoriya's in a far nicer chair. He was much older than Inko, being completely bald with a white bushy mustache. He wore a white doctor's coat, a dark grey undershirt, and a black tie with black pants. His stethoscope hung around his neck.
"To my knowledge, yes." Inko responded "I can lift small objects to my hand," she said while using it to pick up Izuku's Toshinori Action Figure, "and my husband can breathe fire. Our auras aren't particularly strong, but they've managed."
"Even at such a young age, your child should still be able to have his aura unlocked, but I was unable to do it. It could be possible my aura just wasn't strong enough, however..." he then grabbed an x-ray off the table and held it in front of Inko. "This x-ray confirmed that your boy's Severed." The x-ray showed Izuku's chest. Right on top of his heart was a green orb.
"That dot there is Izuku's soul. In a healthy person, you would see little branches spreading out to the rest of his body, kinda like veins do from the heart. However, Izuku has no such branches. His soul is effectively severed from the rest of his body, hence the name." Inko's expression only worsened the longer she looked at it. "There have been very few cases that modern science and medicine have been able to study. Nobody has a cure for it, not even Atlas could pull it off. I'm sorry, Ma'am."
All the while, Izuku had hardly been listening. His gaze was still focused on where it had been when the revelation had been dropped on him. He didn't know how to process this information. Just that morning, he had watched his favorite video in the entire world ten times over. It showed his hero on his debut in the Huntsmen scene, saving hundreds of people in less than an hour. How could his day have done a 180 this fast?
That same day, 8:00 P.M., Midoriya Household
Inko passed by her son's room, the news from this morning still running through her head. 'Why did this have to happen to Izuku?', that thought constantly lingering in her thoughts. 'Is it my fault, somehow?'
*Sniff, sniff*. Inko turned into Izuku's room, completely dark except for one source of light. Izuku's scroll, placed on his desk, was projecting a video into the air, one she was very familiar with. Her son was sitting watching the video, his back to his mother.
"HA HA HA!" a deep voice boomed from the scroll. The image showed a man standing seven feet tall with muscles that were nearly too big for his bodysuit, carrying a dozen people on his back, a destroyed building and roaring flames in the background. "Who is this guy?!" a new voice asked, "I don't believe it! He must've saved at least a hundred people and it's barely been ten minutes!" The camera zoomed in on the man, showing his short blonde hair, slicked back except for two bangs sticking up in the front. "Fear not, citizens! Hope has arrived!" The camera showed his face, covered in shadows, with a bright smile appearing on the screen.
"Because I am here!"
"See that, Mom?" Inko brought a hand up to her chest, the pain in her son's voice clearly evident, "No matter what kind of trouble he's in, he's always got a smile on his face. Even when things seem impossible, he never gives up hope." Izuku turned in his chair to face his mother, his eyes welling up with tears. He pointed a shaky finger towards the screen.
"Do you think… do you think that I could be a Huntsman, too?"
Inko, now with tears of her own, ran up to her son, collapsing to her knees as she did so, wrapping him in the tightest possible hug she could. Both let the tears flow from their eyes, but while Inko's were shut, Izuku's remained open, the same thousand-yard stare from the doctor's office present yet again.
"I'm so sorry, Izuku! I wish things could be different!" Those words would linger in Izuku's mind for the rest of his life. The two of them stayed there for what felt like forever.
'Mom, those weren't the words I needed to hear.'
(Music End)
Present time 2:30 P.M., Great Sanus Mountain Range, near Vale
Along the side of one of the smaller mountains in the territory of Vale, two men and one woman sat, scouting out the valley below them. The first of them looked like a walking branch. He wore a blue bodysuit, covering up his legs and torso, exposing his head and everything below his biceps. His arms looked to be made entirely out of wood, along with his face mask which exposed only his brown eyes. He also had a wooden belt, knee pads, and shoes.
The woman sitting next to him had cream-colored hair flowing down her back, with two strands curled in the front to frame her face. She was wearing a purple and cream colored bodysuit, purple gloves, and purple boots. She also had on a purple domino mask with horns coming up from the sides.
Below them, they had spotted a large horde of Grimm, consisting of at least four dozen Creeps, three dozen Beowolves, a dozen Alpha Beowolves, two dozen Ursai, and an Ursa Major leading the pack. Half a dozen Griffins circled around the pack as well.
"That's a lot more Grimm than I was expecting." said the woman, breaking the silence between the three of them.
"The pack appears to have grown since they had the bounty placed on them." responded her wooden companion. "We'll have our work cut out for us. I suggest we split them up, and lead them into an area where we can more effectively deal with them."
"Sounds good," Responded the woman. "Ya know, it seems like no matter how much work we do, they just keep coming back stronger." the woman commented. At this remark, the third member of their party stood up. He wore a white t-shirt, green cargo pants, and a dark grey belt with a silver buckle. He had roaring muscles almost too large for his clothing to maintain. He had short, slicked back blonde hair, with two bangs sticking straight up in the front. "Sometimes it seems like there's no stopping them."
"Yes there is," The third member spoke, walking up to join his companions in looking down at the Grimm. The other two looked back towards the large man, having to look up due to his large figure. "'Why?' you ask…"
"Because I am here!"
It had been a large burden on his family. In outlying villages in Northern Vale, it was common practice to unlock the aura of every citizen so that they would have better chances of surviving a Grimm attack if it were to occur. Izuku's mom had multiple times considered moving to Vale proper, where her son would be safer, but living there would just be far too expensive for the Midoriyas. This was information Izuku was fully aware of, but even so, he never let it keep him down.
'That day…' he thought to himself, 'that's when I decided that I wouldn't care what anyone else said!' he told himself. He clenched his fist in front of his chest in an act of determination, 'I'll Keep Moving Forward, and keep on smiling just like Toshinori, and I will become a Huntsman!' Izuku raised his fist into the air and did his best to laugh just like Toshinori had in his favorite video.
However, Izuku had failed to realize where exactly he had been going. His walk had lead him to a spot along the outskirts of the village, where guards and huntsmen seldom watched over. Usually, he wouldn't have to worry, as Grimm didn't often come this close to the village. However, with the negativity of Izuku's thoughts that day, and the monsters being pushed towards the village from elsewhere, he had become a prime target.
*Grrrrrrrrrr* Izuku's blood went cold when he heard the deep growl coming from the forest near him. He slowly turned his head to the source of the noise, his lower body being paralyzed with fear. Through the shadows of the woods, two menacing red eyes showed through, dead set on its green haired target. With a series of thunderous steps, from the woods emerged a creature straight from humanity's nightmares.
I was a monstrously large creature, closely resembling a wolf. It stood on its hind legs, revealing the large white, bony armor covering its torso, back, arms, legs, and face. The same two blood red eyes never left Izuku as it towered over him. There was no mistaking it. It was an Alpha Beowolf.
The scrawny boy looked up in total dread, he wanted to run, run as fast as he could but 'M-My legs…' he thought, 't-they w-won't move!' All he could do was look up at what would surely be his demise. The Alpha lurked forward, ready to maul its prey into bits. 'P-Please, someone h-help me' The Alpha picked up its pace slightly. 'Anyone!' The Alpha was now within lunging distance, about to strike when…
(Cue- I am here! (All Might's Theme))
"Don't worry, young man, you are safe!" Izuku and the Alpha both turned their attention back to where the Alpha emerged from, rustling coming from the brush. "Now that I am here!" Out from the woods appeared the same, large blonde man from the hunting party and the same man from the video Izuku had watched countless times, an unwavering smile on his face. The Alpha instantly turned to attack the man, but its effort would prove futile. The man brought his hand back, clenching it into a fist. "VALE SMASH!" The man brought his fist forward, punching the air in front of him. Despite it never making direct contact, the Alpha was ripped apart by the wind force the punch created. Even Izuku, a good 20 yards away, was blown completely off his feet, hitting his head on the ground behind him. He was knocked unconscious by the punch, his last thoughts being 'Is that… Toshinori?'
(End Music)
"Hey...hey, you okay kid?". Izuku awoke to the feeling of many light slaps to his face. When he opened his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of his personal hero, the Number 1 Huntsman in all of Remnant, Toshinori, and his signature smile.
Izuku's face was both shocked and excited at the man who saved him. His limbs took over as he backed away from the man at a rapid pace, though he still remained on the ground. The man stood up to his full height of around seven feet tall. The man was wearing green cargo pants and a white shirt that barely contained his muscles that looked ready to pop out of his skin at any moment. His hair was blond and sleeked back except for the two gravity defying bangs that went straight up making them look like rabbit ears. He had a large smile on his face that said everythingIt was Toshinori Yagi, the worlds strongest huntsman and its very own symbol of peace.
Toshinori stood up, saying, "Well, if you can still move around alright, there shouldn't be any lasting damage. Toshnori brought his hand up, placing it on his forehead,Sorry about what happened back there. I didn't mean for any civilians to get caught up in this. That aside, you were a big help Thank you! I've been chasing that Grimm for a good while and you slowed it down enough for me to finally kill it." He said as he showed Izuku two thumbs up as a way of thanks.
'My idol is standing right there in front of me. It's really him! Here! In the flesh!' The man's smile seemed to flash like a character from a cartoon. 'He looks so much cooler in person!'
"Wait, I-I gotta get an autograph!" He said as he searched his person for a pen, before noticing his journal next to him open with the words Toshinori Yagi spread across two blank pages. "He already signed it!" He yelled. "Thank you so much! This will be a family heirloom for generations to come!" Izuku said as he bowed to Toshinori with each and every word he said, the latter responding with another simple, and rather nonchalant, thumbs up.
"HA HA HA! Welp, appreciate your support! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd better get going!. I need to report that there might be another one around here! Please continue to support me and other Huntsmen! See you around!" Toshinori the smiling giant responded as he stretched his legs with a few pre-jump squats. Began to turn around, preparing to launch himself into the air.
'He's leaving… so soon… no, he can't! I have to ask!'
Toshinori took off into the sky, leaving nothing but dust where he leapt from. The dust cleared to show that no one was there anymore.
The blonde man could have sworn he felt something tug at his leg, he turned to see Izuku grabbing onto his leg and his mouth being forced open from all the wind pressure.
"What the- hey, let go of me!I love my fans but this is just too much " Toshinori shouted over the wind, trying to pry Izuku off his leg.
"But if I do, I wouldn't survive the fall and die " Izuku rebutted while holding on for dear life.
Toshinori stopped at the sound of logic "Ah! Fair point!"
Then they landed on the roof of a nearby building, after which Izuku proceeded to practically collapse onto the roof and squeeze out, "My life just flashed before my eyes."
"Bang on the door for a while, someone will let you in eventually." He said as he gestured to the roof's entrance and began walking off to the balcony of the roof. "See you on the flipside!"
"W-wait, , c-could I ask you a question?" Izuku asked, his voice wavering with nervousness. Toshinori turned around, half facing the scrawny boy in front of him.
'Damn it, I need to make sure I have enough time to finish the mission. However, I should be able to answer his question if he makes it quick.' Toshinori turned around and responded. somehow made his already present smile even larger. "Alright, young man. But please make it quick, I'm on a rather tight schedule." Izuku was shaking in his boots now, nervous about to overcome him. But despite his trepidation, he had to ask. He thought of all the people who never believed in him; Kacchan, his neighbors, his teachers, the local huntsmen, even his mother, all of them had said no. But even so, he still hadn't given up hope. So he summoned up all his courage and got it all out in one breath.
"Do you think that I can become a Huntsman, even if I'm Auraless?"
Izuku closed his eyes and tilted his head slightly down, praying to get the answer he so desperately wanted, no, the answer he needed to hear. "I've wanted to be one ever since I was little. But I'm... I'm just a kid. I-I can't produce any aura or semblance. Do you think I could ever know that it'll be really tough to become one without any actual semblance? Maybe... maybe, I could still be a hunter without them. And save someone in need with a smile on my face.
Silence engulfed them as Toshinori tried to look for an answer. "Auraless?" he began. 'So that means he's' His thought process was cut off by a sharp pain emerging from his chest, causing him to slightly double over, steam emerging from his body. "I should've had more time! Not now, damn it!" he said in a hushed tone for Izuku to hear, who continued to explain himself to his hero, still looking at the ground before him.
"All my life people have said that I wouldn't be able to become a Huntsman because I was Auraless. I've even been bullied for thinking I could become one. But honestly, that just makes me want to try harder. I think saving people is the best thing someone can do. That's why I want to do it with a smile on my face, as a Huntsman, just like y-hey... are you okay Toshinori?" by this point. Izuku looked up to see a shocking sight before him. Where Toshinori once stood there was now a cloud of light grey smoke, dissipating to show a skeleton of a man. Though he wore the same clothes Toshinori had on, his blonde hair was disheveled and spiky, with two long bangs framing his angular face. He had no visible eyebrows, and his neck was extremely long. His blue eyes with black sclera were hollow and sunken as they looked at Izuku. Shocked at the sight, the boy did the first thing that came to his mind.
"Wha- AHHHHHHHHHHH?!" Izuku stumbled back a bit at the sight before him. "Y-You can't b-be Toshinori, you're an imposter! Toshinori is a giant of a man who saves people with a smile on his face! You're not him!" All Might looked on blankly, trying to figure out what to do in this situation. He decided there was no point in trying to hide it.
"I can assure you that I am Toshi-" He was cut off from his explanation as he coughed up a ridiculous amount of blood.
"AHHHHHHH! YOU'RE BLEEDING. HOLD ON, I HAVE A FIRST AID" Izuku frantically checked his bag.
"No need, I'm fine." The now deflated Toshinori took out a handkerchief and wiped at his mouth.
"How is that possible? How is any of this possible?!" Izuku frantically asked.
"Ya know those guys at the beach who usually suck in their guts to look buff?" Izuku nodded wordlessly. "It kinda works like that."
This can't be real! Izuku mentally screamed.
"But how is this possible? Toshinori is a giant of a man who always saves people with a fearless smile."
"A fearless smile huh, kid, trust me when I say that there's plenty of fear behind that smile," Toshinori said as he sat down, obviously exhausted from maintaining his form for so long "I'm trusting you to keep this all a secret, alright. Don't even tell your family." Izuku nodded at this, prompting Toshinori to continue, "You know how guys hold their guts in at the pool to look tougher? That's what I do." He then lifted up his shirt, showing a massive scar enveloping the left side of his body, a sight which Izuku was taken aback by. "Pretty disgusting, right? I got this in a fight five years ago. My respiratory system got blown to hell, and I lost my entire stomach, too. Had to go through a bunch of surgeries afterward. Based on the time, it looks like I'm limited to about three hours a day in my huntsman form because of it."
Izuku tried his best to process everything being thrown at him. "W-w-wait,five years ago…Then was it the last Grimm invasion Vale had at the Northern Border? The mission to take back Mountain Glenn? Or was it the fight with that White Fang Lieutenant? Jeddy Krughees"
Toshinori's eyes widened, impressed at the kid's deduction. "Huh, you know your stuff, kid. But, wasn't. Most of those fights most of Remnant doesn't know about this particular fight, and I want it to stay that way and needs to stay that way. I'm supposed to be the guy that's always smiling after all. The poster boy of the Huntsman. They gotta believe that I'm not afraid of anything I can save everyone, no matter what foe stands in front of me. You mentioned that 'fearless smile'. There's plenty of fear behind that smile,I keep bottled up inside of me. but given the nature of Grimm, it's important my smile alleviates the fear of others, as well as my own. A brave face to keep the public's negativity at a low level. This job is extremely dangerous." He said, looking at Izuku with a gaze that seemed to pierce his very soul. "We're always having to risk our lives for others every day. And some things just can't be beaten without a Semblance. So no, I don't think you can become a huntsman and have to face things that are just too strong to be faced without an Aura. So no, I don't think you can be one if you're Auraless."
Izuku world felt his world crack. His idol, the person he'd been looking up to his entire life, was saying in his own way that he shouldn't go through with it. He started to look at his shoes, only letting out;"O-oh…I-I see."
Toshinori then got up from the guardrail and headed towards the roof entrance, saying as he passed the green haired boy, " If you still want to help people, there are plenty of other ways to do it. You could become a police officer. They get a lot of crap from the press and the public because huntsmen capture most of the big-name criminals, but it's a fine profession".He opened the door to the roof and finished his speech to Izuku." It's great to have dreams, young man, just make sure they're attainable." Toshinori Walked out of the clearing leaving Izuku to think to himself.
And the door to the roof shut with a metallic clang of metal against metal, leaving Izuku alone to stew in his own sorrowful, deprecating thoughts.
'Damn it, I hate to have crushed his dreams like that, but it's the sad truth. Did I do the right thing there, Nana?'.
He absolutely loathed himself when he saw the defeated look on his face.
He paused. His face...
Now that he thought about it, the boy looked so familiar. The bushy hair. The freckles. The wide eyed innocence. Everything about him except for the eyes made him look like a picture perfect copy of...
A loud ring went off on his scroll. He pulled and read through the alert that popped up. His eyes widened in horror after he finished it. "Oh no."
Izuku was still as he was when his idol left him, lost in silence.
It had been only a short minute since Toshinori had left, and already there was smoke rising in the distance. Habit and instinct kicked in as he rushed towards the door, eager to see which huntsmen would show up. But then Toshinori's words rang through his head, stopping him in his tracks. His head now hung low, Izuku slowly got off the roof, stewing in self-doubt.
Walking home yet again, Izuku looked through his notes, taking a bit of time to go over each of them. He stopped for a little longer on Toshinori's signature, the man's words ringing through his throughs once again before he shut the journal and looked at the cover, the edges of it still black from Katsuki's Semblance Maybe it was time to change his dreams, his mother would certainly be happy about it. He was more or less worried about disappointing his little...
A series of explosions shook him from his thoughts. He ran to the edge of the roof to see smoke rising from the marketplace six blocks away. Wanting to see what it was he leaped towards the next roof and the next one after that to get to the site.
Even Toshinori said the same thing as all the others. That he couldn't be a huntsman.without an Aura, he thought as his eyes began to tear up. "Don't cry, dammit. Deep down I knew this was the answer. I've just been avoiding the reality of the situation, trying to prove myself wrong.
An explosion shook him from his thoughts, as he found himself at the suit of the smokestack he'd seen earlier. Is it still going? He thought as he observed the situation in front of him. "Why am I even here? Did I just walk this way out of habit?" he mused to himself as approached the gathered crowd, only to glimpse in and see what was happening.
Izuku saw some of the local huntsmen, most of them running back with the civilians, making sure they got back safely. He recognized two of them as Huntsman from Vale, Yu Takeyama and Shinji Nishiya. Yu looked to be unconscious, as Shinji was using his semblance to hold her limp body. He also recognized two huntsmen hired to stay and protect Aldara as permanent defenders. The Huntsman appeared to be struggling to fight back against the Grimm, as there was a lot of fire in the area which impeded their efforts. 'What explosions even created those fires?
'Wait,' Izuku thought, 'Toshinori said that he needed to get back with the rest of his team to finish up a mission. These are probably the same Grimm they were after. Had he gotten there in time, he probably could've stopped them. That means...'
'It's MY fault!'
"Why aren't the other huntsmen doing anything?" A random pedestrian said.
"Well, none of them are used to dealing with this type of Grimm, plus the monster has a kid hostage. Things aren't looking very good for them." Another one answered for him.
That's when Izuku noticed the faint figure of a human inside. Somebody was in there?! How were they still alive?! He thought he would have died after only a few seconds!
"Hey, isn't that the thing Toshinori was chasing earlier?" A woman's voice said.
"Wait, seriously?! This thing got away from the Toshionri?!" A man practically screeched.
"Well, can't someone call him or something?" Someone else inquired.
"Seriously, where the hell is he?" A man shouted.
*RRROOOAAARRR* Izuku looked deeper into the commotion to see a giant Ursa Major, a black bear with bone-like white armor on its entire body, large white spikes on its back, with bright red eyes. It was surrounded by a large radius of smoke, obscuring part of its figure. 'Oh crap, that's even bigger than the Alpha, I have to get ou-'
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" His thoughts stopped instantly when he heard that scream, accompanied by a large explosion. 'Did he create those explosions?' He followed the Major's gaze, seeing it resting on a figure about 25 yards away from it. When the smoke surrounding the figure cleared, Izuku recognized the ashy blonde hair instantly. 'Kacchan?!'
Before he could even register what he was doing, Izuku broke through the crowd and ran towards the two, despite having no power whatsoever. He wasn't going to save his tormentor. Nor was he rushing to save his bully. No, he was trying to help someone whom he knew needed help.
He ran towards the danger, in spite of the hunter's protests, in spite of the fire biting at his heels, and in spite of his own self-doubt, he ran. He ran to save someone who needed to be saved.
(Cue- You Say Run)
Izuku broke out into a full sprint towards Katsuki, ignoring the flames nipping at his heels and the smoke filling his lungs. 'W-what am I doing? My legs… I can't stop them!'
" Bakugou, who prepared to release another explosion. 'What do I do, what do I do, WHAT DO I DO?! Wait, page 25!' Izuku, remembering the page in his notebook on Shinji, grabbed the yellow backpack off his shoulders, throwing it with all his might towards the Ursa Major, a book coming loose and hitting the Ursa square in the eye, staggering it slightly. It roared angrily in response, and both it and Katsuki turned their attention towards the green haired boy.
"Deku?!" The Ursa took a swing at the now approaching Izuku, aiming to take his head clean off. The green haired fanboy ducked below it, running forward and grabbing Bakugou, dragging him away from the monster with a surprising amount of strength. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING DEKU?!"
"I don't know, my body just started moving on its own!" Izuku looked back at Bakugou with tears in his eyes. "I couldn't just stand there and watch you die, Kacchan!" However, the two boys lost their focus during their conversation, as the Ursa Major backhanded the boys, sending them flying towards a large fire, even further away from the safety of the Huntsman. The two looked back up at the beast in total fear as it raised its paw to deliver the killing blow.
Izuku raised his arms to cover his face and closed his eyes, trying his best to avoid the attack. One which would never land.
"I really am pathetic, huh?" Izuku opened up his eyes, seeing that a large, muscular arm had completely stopped the blow from the Ursa, which gave a roar in surprise. Toshinori had saved him yet again. He had steam coming off from his body like before, and one of the biggest smiles he'd ever given on his face. "I tried to give you an important lesson, but I really should start to practice what I preach! A HUNTSMAN IS ALWAYS READY TO RISK HIS LIFE FOR OTHERS!" He declared, blood erupting from his mouth, his smile remaining unphased. The Ursa brought its paw back, ready to give another go at killing its targets. However, Toshinori had no intent on allowing this to happen, as he brought his fist back even faster.
"BEACON SMAAAAAAASH!" The punch Toshinori threw hit Ursa straight in the chest, obliterating it one hit. The shock wave produced was sent in the area around him, clearing all the smoke and flames incidentally produced by Bakugo's explosions. The wind was so strong it killed most of the Creeps in the area and prompted the surviving Beowolves and Griffin to run for their lives. Toshinori had, like so many other times before, saved the day.
He turned his attention down to the two boys he had grabbed before throwing the punch, both totally unconscious. He set them down, knowing the other huntsmen would have to handle the situation, as he was pushing his time limit. He gave one last look to the freckled, green haired boy.
'He's the one.'
(End Music)
After the incident the hunters Izuku got chewed out by a few of the hunters, while Bakugou just sat there, not even paying any attention to the praise he was being given. The only thing on his face was an ears down, fangs bared scowl, directed at Izuku. Conversely, Bakugo was praised for his bravery in the face of an Ursa Major by some of the other local huntsmen. They said that he did have the potential to be a Huntsman, but Katsuki spent most of the time staring at his former childhood friend, contemplating who knows what. The two, along with the rest of the villagers, were later informed on exactly why the village's defenses were so swiftly broken.
Apparently, the Grimm had been drawn towards Aldera incidentally, as they were running away from the pursuing Yu Takeyama and Shniji Nishiya. They and Toshinori had been on their way back from Anima for differing reasons and decided to take up the mission on their way to Vale. The sudden arrival of the Grimm caught the village guards and Huntsman off guard, and their normally strong defenses were broken. Fortunately, there were zero dead by the end of the incident, and Toshinori's appearance would surely bring enough positive emotions to keep the Grimm away long enough for repairs to be made.
Speaking of the Number One Huntsman, he had vanished almost as soon as he'd arrived. Shinji stated that Toshinori needed to get back to Vale on urgent business, and therefore couldn't stick around.
After he was released, Izuku began his walk home, passing by the same woods he had this morning. He'd already called his mom and told her that he was safe, so he wasn't in too much of a hurry. 'I wish I got the chance to apologize to Toshinori, he probably could've gotten there to help faster if I hadn't been there to get in his way.'
(30 minutes later, elsewhere in Vale)
Izuku was far away from the got swarmed by the press, and he didn't want to draw any more attention to himself. He could always apologize at another time.
"DEKU!" Izuku turned around to see the person he'd just helped save, Katsuki Bakugo, behind him, panting and slightly doubled over as he'd had to run to catch up to him. "Listen... I don't owe you squat! Got that?! I would've been fine on my own! Don't ever try to help me again! I never asked for your help back there! Like you even could if you tried! I would've been fine by myself, you got that you pathetic Auraless loser! So don't go around thinking I owe you anything you damned nerd!" He then proceeded to turn around, stomping towards his house.
He then turned around and stormed off, leaving Izuku rather confused.
Izuku sighed, somehow finding that Bakugou wasn't entirely wrong. He hadn't done a whole lot, in the grand scheme of things. He'd nearly died, and Toshinori had to save him again. It was a hollow victory for him.
But... at least I tried.
He turned around and continued walking, ready to finally give up on his dreams-
"Huh?"
"I AM HERE!" Izuku quickly shot around to see who had grabbed him, only to find Toshinori Yagi, yet again in his Huntsman Form.
"What-. Toshinori. I-I thought you h-had to go back to Vale for important business?" he said, shocked to have seen the Number One Huntsman up close three times in the same day.
"HA HA HA! Don't worry, If you can't even shake the press, you'll never be able to outrun a Grimm. I was smart enough to ensure that wouldn't be an issue. After all, I am Toshinori" And then he lost his grip of his from once more, leaving him as Toshinori once again coughed up blood
"Toshinori." Izuku scrambled for his first aid again before Toshionori raised his hand to say he was good.
Once he stopped coughing, he continued. "Young man, I came here to thank you. And to discuss the question you posed to me earlier. If you hadn't done what you had done back there, I likely would've just been a bystander in the midst of the crowd. So thank you."
"Huh? No, don't thank me. I got in the way and I wasted your time limit. I'm sorry." He said it dejectedly, looking down on his shoes.
"If I hadn't heard your story earlier today, I never would've had the motivation to push myself and take on those Grimm. I must thank you!"
"B-but Toshinori, i-its my fault from the start for getting in your way," the boy responded, looking down at the ground as he said this. "Even though I'm Auraless, I dared ask you if-"
(Cue- You Can Become A Hero)
"Exactly!" Toshinori interjected, causing Izuku to look up in surprise. "You, of all the people in your village, all the guards and Huntsmen on the scene, you, a timid, Severed boy, were the only one to run back and attempt to save your friend! You were the one who spurred me to take action!" With every word that left Toshinori's mouth, Izuku's eyes glistened more and more, and his heart began to feel strained. "Most of the greatest Huntsmen in history show signs of their greatness early on in life. Their stories may vary, but there's almost always one connection, their bodies began to move on their own before they could even think." Izuku's heart began to beat more and more, he began to lean over, tears forming in his eyes. "That's what happened to you out there today, didn't it?" Toshinori asked, though he already knew the answer, seeing in himself what a woman had seen in him so long ago.
As Toshinori continued his speech, Izuku began to tear up. He remembered every person that put him down, laughed at him, ridiculed him and his dream. To hear words like this coming from his idol brought about a flood to a dam in his heart.
"Yes…" Izuku responded shakily, now on his hands and knees, gripping the forest floor beneath him, letting his tears flow freely. He was in utter shock at the words he was hearing. After over a decade of being scolded for his dreams, having to be the only person who believed in him, he had finally found someone who saw something in him. His mother's words began to re-emerge in his mind. "I'm so sorry, Izuku! I wish things could be different!" Years after he had been told he was a Severed, he was about to hear the words that he so desperately needed to hear that day…
As Toshinori continued his speech, Izuku began to tear up, and then he began to cry. Not because he was sad, but because he was happy. So, incredibly happy
"Young man, what's your name?"
"Izuku. Izuku Midoriya."
" Young Midoriya, you too can become a Huntsman."
And on that day, Izuku Midoriya's journey to become Remnant's greatest Huntsman truly began.
Opposite side of the city
(Cue- This Will Be The Day)
Through the window to the right of the entrance, a red blur and a man in an all-black suit suddenly shot out, breaking the glass as they did so. Several other men in the same all-black suits, with one in a differing attire, looked through the broken window at where the red blur had ended up Twenty feet away.
From where the red blur stopped stood a girl who looked to be a couple years younger. She was fair skinned with black hair which stopped at her neck that was dyed red at the tips. Her attire consisted of a red cloak, a black long-sleeved dress with a high collar and red trim on the sleeves, a black waist cincher with red lacing up the front, with a red trim around her skirt. She also wore a pair of thick black stockings and black combat boots with red laces and a red trim around the top. Her attire was finished off with a black belt slung around her hips which carried bullets and a pouch and had an emblem in the shape of a rose on it.
(End Music)
Her eyes locked onto the presumed leader of the group, that being the only one who's attire didn't match anyone else present. The man had dark green eyes with bright orange hair which covered his right eye, while his left eye had traces of eyeliner. He wore a red-lined white suit with long black pants and black shoes, a small gray scarf, black gloves with buckled sleeves, and a black bowler hat with a small feather tucked into its red band. In his right hand he carried a cane and a cigar was in his mouth. Said man also had his eyes locked onto the girl before him. "Okayyy… get her!"
On cue, the four black-suited goons ran out the shop's door, three having drawn a single-edged red blade while one carried an SMG, and began to charge at the red-head before them. Just as the first goon approached fighting distance, the girl jumped up and spun around on the handle of her scythe, kicking the first goon in the face with both her feet. She carried her momentum with her and used it to leap further into the air with her scythe in hand, landing with her back facing the goons.
As the final goon began to fire off a volley of shots her way with his SMG, the girl turned into a burst of rose petals, dodging his bullets to the side all while firing her scythe to give extra momentum. She then launched herself at her opponent, knocking him into the air. She planted the blade of her scythe into the ground, swinging on it until she jumped into the air and hit the goon with her scythe yet again, knocking him out cold. She returned to the ground, again looking at the leader of the group.
"You were worth every cent, truly you were." he then turned his attention to the girl in front of him, pulling the cigar out from his mouth. "Well now, Red I think we can all say it's been an eventful evening," The man dropped his cigar and crushed it with his cane, "and as much as I'd love to stick around, I'm afraid this" the man brought his cane up and pointed it at the girl butt end of it popping off to reveal a sight "is where we part ways." The man fired off an incendiary Dust round from the end of his cane. The rosy girl used her scythe's gun to launch herself into the air out of the way of the explosion's blast radius. The girl returned from the air and began to look for where the criminal had gone off to.
The girl looked up to the side of a nearby building where the man in the white coat was climbing up its side with a ladder. "You okay if I go after him?" the girl asked the shopkeeper, who by this point had made his way out the shopkeep nodded to the girl.
The girl then pulled the trigger on her scythe to launch herself. The teen landed, albeit with varying degrees of grace, on the top of the crook already being on the other side of the rooftop.
"Hey!" The rosy girl yelled.
"Persistent…" said the cane-wielding criminal to himself. The girl then began to hear the roar of engines as a Bullhead, a small airship used for commercial and private business, ascended up from the streets, stopping just above the rooftops. It shined a light right into their faces, temporarily blinding them. The criminal climbed into the open side door of the ship before turning around, now holding a sizable red Dust Crystal in his hand. "End of the line" The man then tossed the crystal so it landed right at the feet of the scythe girl gasped in shock as she was about to get away. The round went off, and the sound of the explosions deafened everything around the girl. As she slowly regained her senses, she heard the cheering of the man she was chasing, only for it to stop at the realization that his chaser wasn't dead. She looked up to see who her savior was. She saw a woman who had cast some sort of pink shield which stopped the explosion from reaching her.
The person who'd saved them was a middle-aged woman with very light-blonde hair tied back in a bun with a curl hanging down the right side of her face. She had bright green eyes and thin ovular glasses. She had dangling teal earrings with a hanging pendant on her collar of a matching color. She wore a white long-sleeved, pleated top that had a wide keyhole neckline and gauntlet cuffs that flared in pleats at the wrist. Her lower body was covered by a black high-waisted pencil skirt with bronze buttons and black-brown stockings. She also wore black boots with bronze heels, and a cape that was purple inside and black on the outside, cut into the shapes of flames and arrows on the end, with the symbol of a tiara colored gold on it. In her right hand, she held a riding crop which seemed to serve as her weapon.
The new woman brought her riding crop back before whipping it forward in an arch, sending a volley of bright purple projectiles at the Bullhead, knocking it around a sizable amount. The criminal ran into the cockpit of the ship, attempting to get away. The Huntress before the two teens then cast another "spell", which generated a storm above the Bullhead, bringing down a torrent of ice shards on the ship. A new figure emerged from where the criminal had run off to. It was hard to tell anything about her, but she wore a short red dress, glass high heels, and had glowing orange eyes.
The new combatant ran her left hand along her right arm, causing part of her dress to grow a molten orange. She then flicked her left arm at the Huntress, causing a spray of fire to be sent out, only for it to be blocked by another shield "spell", leaving small remains of the fire on the ground. From the small remains, however, the fiery combatant brought up an explosion of fire, which the Huntress barely managed to flip out of. The Huntress quickly regained her composure, using the debris created by the explosion to telekinetically form a spear which she launched at the bullhead. Her opponent sent for a barrage of fireballs to stop the spear, however, the Huntress simply reassembled anything the attacker broke away, causing the spear to eventually make contact with the bullhead. She then took the spear and split it into three separate ones, only for them to be destroyed by a large shockwave the fire-wielder produced. The rosy girl took this time to switch her weapon into a compact rifle form, firing blasts at the woman in the Bullhead which was simply deflected by her hand. Ruby's realization came too late and the fire wielder created even more explosion from the ground beneath them, forcing the Huntress to telekinetically move the teen out of the way before barely dodging the attack herself. The Bullhead used this time to pull away, the three getting one last look at the woman with glowing eyes before the hull doors closed.
the rosy girl turned their attention to the woman who'd just saved her. "Are you a Huntress?" The girl asked with a wide-eyed smile.
The looked at the huntress looked at the in front of her with a mix of anger and confusion on her face.
"Can I have your autograph?" Ruby shouted with a look of pure glee on her face.
Same Day, 9:45 P.M., Vale Police Department
The Huntress had hastily brought the girl in red down to the Vale Police Department, also making sure that police arrived at the Dust shop which was robbed. Ruby was brought into interrogation where she was with the only light above her.
"I hope you realize that your actions tonight will not be taken lightly. You put yourself and others in great danger." The Huntress said with anger in her voice.
"He started it!" Ruby said
"If it were up to me, you'd be sent home...with a pat on the back…" she paused which excited Ruby. "A slap on the wrist for being reckless." she finished whipping her riding crop in front of her hand causing her to squeak and pull back her hand as the huntress sighed "But, there's someone who would like to see you."
The girl raised an eyebrow but soon turned attention to the door that suddenly opened. At first, she couldn't see who opened it, so she stood up and looked down and gasped silently at who it was. As a man with gray hair in a black and green suit came in with his mug and a plate of cookies. Along with a sort of dog-bear-mouse like Faunas wearing a suit and a small smile on his face, a very sleepy looking man picked up the faunas putting him on the chair and left as Ruby sat back down trying to have proper posture. "Hello there young lady, might I ask what your name is?" The creature asked in a small friendly voice.
The girl cleared her throat a bit before speaking. "Rose, Ruby Rose sir." She answered revealing her name.
"Ruby Rose…" the man said as he leaned closer. "You have silver eyes."
"Um…"
"Well, Miss Rose, we were currently impressed with the footage" said the odd Faunas
"So! Where did you learn to do this?" asked the in the black and green suit as the hunter held a tablet with a video of Ruby fighting on it playing.
"S-Signal Academy." said Ruby
"They taught you to use one of the most dangerous weapons ever designed?" Asked the man
"Well,one teacher in particular"
"Let me guess. A man named Qrow?" said the Faunas
"Mmmm! That'smyuncle!" she responded with her mouth full of cookies. "Sorry, that my uncle, He's a teacher at Signal! I was complete garbage before he took me under his wing and now I'm all like Wooosh and Waah!, how'd you know?"
"Well other than the giant scythe you both are good with them." Said the Faunas
"So I've noticed my friend," the man in the suit said, placing his mug down. "And what is an adorable girl such as yourself doing at a school designed to train warriors?"
"Well… I want to be a huntress."She said sternly
"You want to slay monsters" said the faunas
"Yeah I only have two more years of training left at Signal and then I'm going to apply to Beacon. You see, my sister's starting there this year, and she's trying to become a huntress cause i wanna help people. My parents always and I always thought saving people was so cool and we grew up learning that helping people is the best thing you could do so I thought 'why not make a career out of it' and yeah I could just be a police officer but Huntsman and Huntersses are so much romantic and exciting and, gosh, ya know!" Ruby explained.
After finishing her explanation the rodent-like Faunas leaned forward getting a little closer to Ruby. "Do you know who we are?"He asked.
"You're professor Ozpin headmaster at Beacon so that makes you the old headmaster professor Nezu"Ruby said.
"Hello" said the man now known as Ozpin
"Nice to meet you both" Ruby said
"I'm guessing you want to come to Beacon"
Nezu and Ozpin looked at each other for a moment and then the Huntress as she crossed her arms and rolled headmaster Ozpin actually seemed to notice Nezu nodding. He looked back at Ruby and smiled. "Well,I don't see why not then Opinz will see you at Beacon in ten months" Nezu said.
Ruby walked out of the police station,
"Thank you again, sirs, I'll be sure to give it my all," Ruby said as she bowed before leaving.
"Take care now." Nezu waved goodbye.
As Ruby left the station he looked up toward the night sky and at the full moon. Closing her eyes an image of a woman came into her head. She looked like an older version of Ruby with the same hair color and eyes wearing a white hood.
"I'll do it, mom..."I'll be a huntress just like you."Ruby said
