Chapter 502: A Defender to remember.
(Spellman Estate.)
The whole home of the Spellman family is silent. All of them there are all remaining quiet after what they have all been through, they fought Grimm, and did what they could to save Atlas and all of Mantle. But they didn't get the chance to fully secure all of it, not with the presence of Salem.
Lincoln, Luna, Jordan, Sam and Linka are all gathered at the backyard and are laying down on the grass and looking up into the sky. "So, what the heck do we do now? I mean, I know some of us are trying to get over the fact one of our own is no longer with us" said Jordan.
Lincoln sighs. "Guys, I know things are not gonna be easy with one less Royal Defender. But we've been through this before when Tadashi didn't come to our world much, he has his own path to take and so does Penny."
"The difference between Tadashi and Penny is that Tadashi comes sometimes to see what we're up to and if we need help, but with Penny…. We don't know when she'll be coming back" said Sam.
"True on that, I mean we can still go and see her, but only when the time is right and we're given the word to go and check out what the deal is. We're gonna have to wait for when Gyro says we can go and check on her" replied Luna.
"Which could be for a long while" said Jordan.
Linka sits up. "Guys, Penny chose her path and it is true that we have no clue when we might see her again, but don't lose hope guys. When time and destiny gives it to us, we will see one of our own and we will help her fight off Salem and save all of remnant. The one thing I'm worried about is the folks who didn't make it out of the fight."
"How many casualties were there again?" asked Luna.
"3" replied Sam. "We lost 3 civilians to the Grimm, we weren't fast enough to get to them and they died. An elderly, a mother and a teenager, who is as young as Luan."
"We can't guarantee we can save everyone guys, but we can give it our all and so will Penny" replied Lincoln. "Don't give up hope team. I know the others are doing the same as well, not giving up and looking forward to the fight ahead and that fight is when we go face-to-face with the creator of all Grimm."
"And when we do face her, we will face her together and we will defeat her and stop the dark deed she intends to commit….. Even though we seem bad for what she's been through."
Linka sighs. "Can't blame you bro, Salem isn't a monster. She never was, just a lady who couldn't take the loss of her love and became something….. Something dark."
"Those god's could've just ended her life and maybe she'd be able to join her lover wherever they'd be. But no, they gave her the immortal status and she became a fucking monster" replied Luna. "Pardon my French guys, I just really hate those gods for doing that."
"God's are always less than helpful and more into watching their creations squabble and not stop the madness" replied Sam. "Too many people die, for the amusement of those who made them and all of creation."
"Did Gyro say what his plans are when we do reunite the relics?" asked Jordan.
"No, but chances he'll want to speak to the god's when the time is right. We could speak to Salem about our plan, but will she even listen to reason?" asked Linka.
"Not likely" replied Lincoln. Then they spot a TIE Reaper Advanced and Hollow comes out of it and lands in front of them and he sits as well. "Lord Hollow? What the heck?"
He then lays down onto the grass and turns off his mask. "What a day. So, what's up with you guys?"
They're all a bit confused at what he just said. "Dude, where the heck have you been? We were fighting in Atlas and Mantle and had to go toe-to-toe with a ton of Grimm!"
Hollow then recalls. "Ah right. Yeah, I heard the transmission and I was told about Penny Polendina and her choice in staying in Remnant. Well, I apologize for not being in the fight, but I had my own mission to deal with."
"And that missions is?" asked Jordan.
"The Fairy animal thing and it's all been taken care of. The evil animal lady who wanted the power is gone and so are the Trix, again" replied Hollow.
Hearing that part shocks them. "Wait! The Trix came back?! How?!"
"Fairy animal magic or something, I don't know all of the stuff going on with the Winx is so confusing and we've fought so many times against those two animal shifting folks and then came those three stupid ass witches who I thought I fucking killed!" said Hollow.
"But, all is well and there is no need to worry. Truth be told, I did not think that the first fairy animal was a swan, a really big and really sparkly and shiny swan. I thought she'd be a dinosaur, or a frog, or a germ, but no, turns out it's a swan merged from the other fairy animals the Winx girls have and boy was it huge!"
They're all still confused at what he's saying. "Okay Hollow, calm down and rewind. Tell us, what the hell happened in the world of Magix?" asked Lincoln.
While they all talk, on the roof of the house is Neil and Peter Sharp.
"So, looks like the Sith guy is back, wonder where the hell he was while the rest of us were fighting in Remnant" said Neil.
"Probably busy with whatever shit is going on in his life" replied Peter. "But if he were there, then it wouldn't be much of a fight and he'd even the odds to much, to the point where there aren't gonna be anything for us to battle. He'd steal all the kills."
"True" replied Neil. "But his help would've been more appreciated."
Then Boomer lands down, they didn't know his airship was nearby. "Hey guys, what'd I miss?"
"Not much, mostly just Hollow talking to them about something" said Neil.
"Huh, didn't think that guy would be here. Where the hell was he anyway?" asked Boomer.
"No clue and likewise, he'll tell us later" replied Peter. "Anyway, what's with you man? Anything from Katherine Mulligan and the Royal Woods news?"
Boomer sighs. "Well, she spoke to her colleagues about her condition and even told her boss and I was there to tell them as well and things got kinda unexpected for everyone at that point."
Neil and Peter didn't like the sound of that. "Well, what's the verdict?" asked Neil.
"She'll still be in the news thing, but once January hits, she won't be put back into the news thing until she finally has the kid, which means she might be back at the end of July for the Royal Woods News" replied Boomer. "But it's all cool man, she said she's fine with it. One more month being the same good old news reporter that she always has been and she'll make the most out of it."
"At least that's settled. You planning to take her on a date soon?" asked Neil.
"Soon, soon. Possibly on the second week of next month" replied Boomer.
"And what about tying the knot and asking her the big question mark?" asked Peter, this makes Neil chuckle.
Boomer turns red in embarrassment. "No idea guys, I still have a lot to think about and things haven't been the same ever since I was broken up with the Sam we know as the spy, and I have so much else on my mind before I can fully commit to being a dad, soon. Nine months, nine god damn months before I become Daddy Boomer."
"That a thing now? We gonna call you that from now on?" chuckled Peter. Neil also chuckles.
Boomer also chuckles. "Watch your mouth there dude, don't make me go berserk, but I do have one thing to report and it's about the new folks from Mantle and Atlas."
"And what seems to be the issue?" asked Neil.
"No issues at all" replied Boomer. "Ever since the humans and Faunus of Mantle have arrived, things aren't so bad. They seem okay with their new lives in Great Lakes City, honestly, I thought they'd move to Royal Woods, but I guess they wanna be in a city where it feels like home."
"I talked with Rosa Casagrande and she said that there are several apartment buildings the Mr. Scully owns and the folks from Mantle and Atlas are living there now and all of them have some steady jobs and have to learn to cooperate with the people of the town and the Pokémon wildlife too."
Neil and Peter are amazed by this news. "Wow. That sounds awesome, looks like we got ourselves some non-shell-shocked folks. But chances they might recall they're home and wish to reclaim it" said Peter.
"Not wrong" replied Neil. "The citizens of Mantle and Atlas will wanna go back home and fight for their lands, which means we must be ready for any new recruits who might know how to maneuver a machine or learn how to fire a weapon. The front line in that land is gonna get heavy duty, and soon FutureTech will release the GDI forces to engage the Grimm."
"And I shall bring forth whatever forces I have as well." They see Gyro land down, but he nearly slips and they see he still has some bandages and a cast. "Hello gentlemen. Looks like Hollow is here."
"Guardian? What the hell are you doing here? I thought you were recovering or something?" asked Neil.
"I am, and still am and the thing is, I don't think I'll be around much. After that fight with Salem, I need to go and seek out some way to maintain control of the powers of fel and whatever arcane I have within" said Gyro.
"How long will you be gone?" asked Peter.
"That I do not know, but Pyrrha will take my place and will be the one to aid you all in whatever mission you guys need" replied Gyro. He then walks away, but he stops. "And….. I spoke with Michelle Lewis and she's… Okay with this. She knows I have a job to do, and I shall continue with it."
"We'll hold the line and do what we always do" said Boomer.
Gyro looks to them and smiles. "That's what I'm counting on. I will also look into some information on anything else coming to our world, till we meet again everyone." Gyro morphs into his raven form and he flies through the portal of the Great Gate.
Neil sighs and looks to his kids talking to Hollow. "You guys think Pyrrha is okay after knowing about what happened to Mantle and Atlas?"
"Chances, she cried about it and then sucked up some courage and recalled her mission, she's not ready to go back, not yet" replied Peter. "But when the time comes, then she'll go back."
"And then she'll regain the powers of the Fall maiden" replied Boomer.
"And then we go for the one relic none of us have found yet, the relic of Veil" replied Neil.
Then Boomer realizes. "Hey guys, Ozpin is inside the body of the boy Oscar right? Where the heck was he after the battle of Mantle and Atlas?"
(Royal Fortress, somewhere in the China Sea.)
Carol, Victor and Jack Cyber walk down the halls of the FutureTech base and discuss what the plans are.
"Okay, so the GDI forces will be ready to reinforce the front lines in Mantle and Atlas and we can then deploy our toughest forces to take out any of the Grimm and chances in slowing down or taking down that giant freaky monster that Salem is riding" replied Victor.
"Folks from Mantle and Atlas are either taking refuge on the mainland of Remnant or are headed for our world and seeking a home in Great Lakes City and we got five people who wanna join the fight and reclaim their home" replied Carol.
"Then we'd best get to it. We got tons of supplies ready for takeoff and the forces art the Remnant Naval base will need every last piece of weaponry to make this fight possible to push, alongside their huntsman and huntress allies" said Jack Cyber. "Also, Autobot Hound said he's going into the fight as well."
As they get out of the FutureTech base, a military truck arrives and transforms into the Autobot they were talking about. "I got all my guns locked and loaded guys, just say the word and I'll go back in and tear me some grimm!" replied Hound.
"Before we do that, I have some new weapons for you to look at, please come with me Hound." Jack Cyber then leads Hound to the weapons bay to be given some new gear.
Victor and Carol look around the base and they see tons of forces are being mobilized to move out and begin to transport tons of equipment to Remnant, for the battle of Mantle and Atlas.
"We're sending so much to the front line and we still haven't gotten any word on the Dominion or any of our allies giving aid" said Victor.
"Until that day comes, we're gonna need to handle the crisis ourselves" replied Carol. She then sees some people who aren't looking too good. "Wish I could say about them though."
They both see Martin McKenzie standing by the edge of the Royal Fortress and looking to the horizon, and standing with him is his girlfriend Becky Jill Miller.
Victor sighs. "The guy's not feeling too good after Penny left. She was like a daughter to him, even though they spent not much time in having fun, they respected each other and had each other's backs through hell or high water."
"This is the fifth time I've seen Martin like this, most of the times he feels this way is when his tech has been misused for something stupid, or when he's lost family and I've seen him like this when he found out his mom and four cousins passed away in the dimension of Red Alert. The best way for him to handle this situation, is for him to have those who can support and understand what he's been through."
"He knows we're gonna see Penny again soon, but I know he's worried if she survives" replied Carol. "And I know she will, she was rebuilt by FutureTech and given so many adjustments and that pretty much makes her one of the toughest members of the Royal Defenders and truly a protector to the lands of Mantle, can't say much about Atlas though."
Jack Cyber then goes back to them. "With Atlas still being controlled by that delusional man, James Ironwood. There seems to be no chance for our troops to head up there and provide fire support, also we got word that Ironwood may have lost it again."
"What do you mean?" asked Victor.
"One of my insurgents that I have left behind contacted me and told me that James Ironwood has shot one of the members of the council of Atlas" replied Jack Cyber.
They're all shocked to hear this, and so is Martin and Becky and this makes Martin angry.
"Wow. Ironwood has lost it, and all because Salem got to him. What does you're informant have on the word about the relic?" asked Carol.
"Locked up and sealed away. The forces of Atlas are trying to hack into the barrier, but they can't. The whole thing is made by FutureTech and only one man can bring it down" replied Jack Cyber. They all look to Martin who is looking away still.
"This makes him a priority target and only a matter of time before Ironwood and Arthur Watts figures it out that someone who made the barrier can bring it down" replied Victor. "When the time does come to return to Remnant, then that's when we'll all be ready."
They then hear Martin speak. "Ready to kick some Grimm ass. Those people need our help and so does Atlas. Whether they like it or not, and we still have Ace Operative Clover in our custody and still in critical condition."
"Atlas is reporting him to be deceased" replied Jack Cyber.
"And it's gonna stay that way" replied Martin. They then follow him as he goes back into the FutureTech base. "For now, we help him recover and then when he awakens, then we tell him of what has happened and perhaps he can be able to convince his team that Ironwood has lost it."
They all see the plan that he has. "We exchange one Royal Defender, for another?" said Jack Cyber. "Holy shit!"
"Exactly" replied Martin. They then look to the window of the room and see GLADIS reapplying more healing liquids into Clover who is recovering from his wounds when he was struck down by Tyrian Gallows.
"He can help turn the tide of corruption from Atlas, as well as Winter Shcnee and the rest of the Ace Operatives." Martin looks to all of them. "Jack Cyber, I need you to inform your insurgent to keep tabs on Ironwood from the shadows and to keep the last council member protected."
Jack Cyber nods and he heads to the communications room.
"Victor, Carol. Make sure that every GDI tech we have is ready for launch and provide them some support with the brand new tech we made" replied Martin.
Victor and Carol nod and they head to the weapons bay and the armor facility and the GDI crawler stations.
Martin and Becky look back to Clover. "Are you alright Martin?"
Martin sighs. "Thing are changing and when things change, we have to change and right now our change is to keep an eye on the situation at Remnant. We can be the same people we usually are, but this mission, is something we have to take seriously."
They then walk away from the window. "So, what happens now?" asked Becky.
"Now?" said Martin. "Right now I need a slice of cake." They both head to the break room.
But back with Clover, his hand twitches and his heart rate spikes.
(Nighttime.)
Martin is going down into the secured basement of the base. "GLADIS. How is our recent capture?"
"The creature has been agitated lately, but it's also calming down."
"Good." Martin opens the heavily armored secured door, and in that room is a chained and caged Grimm Mammoth and Martin sees its calm but still pissed off.
"Now, let's see what it takes to control one of Salem's forces." Martin then looks to the folder from the files of Dr. Narud, on how to organize a research on controlling creatures that have a hive mind. "Didn't think I have to do this, but we need to stop Salem, once and for all!"
