Chapter 1
Jon Snow stared at the sky as his own blood was pouring out from the four stab wounds he received. "For the Watch." Those three words still plagued his mind. What had he done wrong? Well… nothing short of believing every Brother of the Watch that ended up stabbing him or just watching as he was assassinated in front of them.
By each passing second, the pain from the wounds and everything in his vision faded more and more, but not the Wall itself. It slowly took over his vision and there was nothing, except white light surrounding him. He was shocked that his left hand finally moved, when he tried to move with it. What?! How is this possible?! he thought and slowly stood up.
Jon looked down at his clothes and found only four holes in places, where the daggers pierced the boiled leather. And to his surprise, Longclaw was in a sheath on his belt too! But I left it in my room! and then it struck him. Someone buried him with his (formerly the Old bear Mormont's) Valyrian steel sword! "Ghost!?" he shouted just to make sure that his companion followed him and a few seconds later, two red eyes stared at him a few feet to the left.
The Bastard of Winterfell rushed towards his trusty and always quiet Direwolf with tears in his eyes. And as he hugged the almost donkey-sized wolf, he felt something on his neck. Jon turned and saw an old man with extremely pale skin and only one eye: red as blood. "Who are you?" Jon asked the man, while slowly sliding his hand towards Longclaw.
The old man just smiled and made a 'no' gesture with his head. Jon got the signal and stopped with reaching towards his sword. "My name, or rather title, is the Three-eyed Raven and I am a Greenseer. It's my pleasure to meet you, Jon Snow."
Jon blinked several times. Three-eyed Raven?! Greenseer?! Is it some kind of joke? he thought. "It is no joke. We Greenseers can see everything, except the far future of both this and alternate universes or other worlds. And yes, I can tell, what you're thinking." Jon stepped back after hearing that. "But, there IS one world, that while much more unforgiving and harder than ours, can provide you a start from Zero. My colleague there seeks help and I chose you to do it."
The youngest Lord commander gulped and gave the old man a really mad look. "Why me? Why not choose my Father, Robb or even King Robert?" he asked the ancient being. "Because your job here ended. Yours was the Song of Ice and Fire, yet some idiots that killed you automatically signed up for the Armageddon called the Long Night to pass and restart the world." Jon looked at the Three-eyed Raven and tried to speak, but the old man shook his head. "No, I can't revive you there. That Blasphemer Melisandre just burned your body with the Direwolf and sword."
"Fuck…" Jon muttered after hearing that. Thanks to that damned fanatic of R'hllor, he can't go back and save Westeros from the Long Night and the Others. "I understand how you feel. I was also a Lord commander of the Watch, but I nearly died, when a Wight surprised me from behind. I survived only thanks to a Brother called Coldhands and the Children."
"Sam spoke something about meeting a Brother that saved him and Gilly from the pursuing Wights. He was riding a Moose…" Jon said as he remembered one of the many talks with his friend. "He met Coldhands. But, enough about the past. Your new world has six types of magic: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light and Dark. And there are also passive defence/offense boosters called Divine Protections."
Jon felt that his head might explode from the information. Magic?! Divine Protections?! What in the Seven Hells?! he thought and tried his best to not laugh. Magic was lost with Old Valyria and neither the Old Gods nor the Seven provided protections. Much less R'hllor. Everyone knew that (except the Septons and Septas). "You have three DPs. Divine Protection of Fire, Divine Protection of Ice and Divine Protection of Illness. The DP of Fire gives you a certain level of resistance against Fire magic and amplifies your one affiliation with it. The DP of Ice works similar to the Fire one, but amplifies resistance and affiliation to Water magic. And the last one gives you a resistance against most of Illnesses that you can get."
"Wait… only Targaryens had fire and illness resistance! How and why do I have them too?!" Jon asked the old man. "That's simple. Your real father was Rhaegar Targaryen and your mother was actually the person you call aunt Lyanna. Eddard Stark protected your real identity a little too much I suppose. Anyway… see you, when the job is done!" the Three-eyed Raven cheered and disappeared.
And the whiteness, surrounding Jon and Ghost faded, revealing a rather clean and warm city around them.
Subaru Natsuki stared in shock at his new surroundings. "I got transported to another world?!" he shouted with surprise in his voice. I wonder, where is the cute girl that summoned me? he thought as he looked around. There were several demi human races, normal humans, strange lizards pulling carriages and a big white wolf with eyes red as blood…
Wait what?! He thought as he realized that the big wolf could act as a horse, if it's needed. Next to it was a man about his age, who was dressed in full black clothes and cloak and had a sword on his belt. He had brown hair and black - no, very dark purple eyes - that shouted experience and sharp mind. What is he? A knight? A lordling? Or a boss that I must beat to win this game? he asked himself and chose to rather explore the city on his own to find the cute summoner.
But, he had no map, so he got lost rather easily. After a few minutes of clueless wandering, he saw a stand with fruit he knew: apples. "I can't read this thing…" he muttered as he noticed the sign. "Hello sir, are these…?" he started as he turned to the seller, but he cut him off. "Appas. The freshest you'll find." Subaru reached down for his wallet and pulled out some ¥ coins.
The seller got instantly mad at that. "What are these?! You won't buy anything with this in Lugnica. That means you're broke! Now, get out of my sight!" he shouted at him and Subaru did the wise thing and retreated. "Welp, back to the old good information gathering…" he muttered as he walked away.
The first building he entered was filled with demi human women and before he could say anything, a cat demi human slapped him out from the building. I should try a pub then… he thought and searched for a building that resembled a pub. He found it, but yet again, there were only demi humans in there.
"You there! This is for demihumans only!" a lizardman with a barrel on his left shoulder shouted at him. After that, a newcomer grabbed his shoulder and pushed the boy out from the pub with enough force to send him several feet back. "My eyes!" Subaru cried out before he fell to a river with a loud SPLASH!
Jon felt unease as everyone he passed by stared at him. He knew that the looks were directed at him thanks to Ghost's overall appearance. He was right about this being another world… the Bastard of Winterfell thought as he remembered, what the strange boy said. No one knew him here and that had both pros and cons. But, one of the cons included no shelter and money. The Three-eyed Raven gave him his sword and Direwolf with those three "protections", but he still got no money from him.
Ugh… I should have asked him for some, when I was there… he reminded himself, but what happened, happened and he can't take it back. Suddenly, he saw a blonde blur running past him to a random dark alley. A Lannister is here?! he thought and shook his head. But, if it were the case, the old man would tell him about the Lannister being there.
He watched the small girl as she stopped for a moment and ran away after a few seconds. And after that, three goons started kicking and stomping on a random boy. "Fuck!" Jon cursed and rushed to the alleyway with Longclaw drawn. But he was beaten there by a silver-haired girl in a strange white and purple dress.
"That's enough!" she said and caught their attention. "Ghost, scare those three goons!" Jon commanded the Direwolf and watched as his trusty companion bared his teeth in a silent growl and slowly crept towards the goons. "W-what is that?! A beast tamer?!" the largest of the trio said with surprise and fear in his voice. "Damn it! Run!" the shortest one shouted and the trio escaped.
"Thank you for the help, but they might be the ones who stole something from me." Jon looked at the girl after he sheathed his sword back. "I saw a small blonde girl running past them, but they didn't give her a single thing." The girl nodded in thanks at the info and looked curiously at Ghost. "Can I…?" she asked, uncertain about whatever she was thinking about. "Sure. Ghost attacks only those who pose danger to either me or someone else. In the latter case, however, he does so on my command."
"And what about me?!" the wounded boy asked/shouted at them. "Don't wander alone or unarmed in these alleys. And if that happens… try to call guards. A city this big might have at least dozens of them." The girl nodded at Jon's tip for the boy, but rather warily. "Lia, he just doesn't know the exact number of the guards here…" a voice said out of nowhere. And soon after that, a cat with a bag showed up. What the…?! What is that? the former 998th Lord commander of the Night's Watch thought and rubbed his eyes.
"Oh, sorry for the confusion. Lia is a Spirit arts user. The name's Puck." Jon fought the urge to pass out like the strange boy in front of him just did. "Sorry, but what are you? In my homeland, we do not have talking cats." Puck and 'Lia' exchanged weird looks. "And have you heard of spirits?" the cat asked him. Jon just nodded at that. "We have a well-known folk tale about Jenny of Oldstones. She was said to be able to talk with them and ghosts too."
"Interesting. I have never heard about a person named like that in my whole life." Jon nodded in acceptance. "And what about him?" he asked and pointed at the boy. "I'll heal him and leave after that. I must get the insignia back." Jon had a feeling that he heard something that could be affiliated with the Royal family of this world.
The girl knelt next to the boy and muttered something. Jon watched as a circle of water conjured out of nothing and made the bruises fade a few seconds after contact with them. "So, can I ask you your name?" Puck asked him. "Jon Snow. Snow is a surname given to a bastard born in the North. It is one of the regions of Westeros, from which I hail." The cat raised an eyebrow at that.
"Westeros? I have never heard about such a country. Also, your clothes are much fancier than a bastard could ever hope of. The same goes with your sword." Jon resisted the urge to sigh. He really didn't want to talk about that, but he had no choice to avoid looking suspicious. Also, he decided to hide the fact that he died.
"I joined a group called the Night's Watch that mans the Wall. The Wall is 800 ft. large and 300 miles long block of ice, located in the northernmost part of the Seven Kingdoms. The sword was a gift of gratitude from the previous Lord commander, when I saved his life against a reanimated corpse. After his death, I became the 998th Lord commander, but some of my subordinates hated one of my decisions and tried to assassinate me, but an old man saved me and transported me here."
The spirit studied his face with a sharp glare for a second as if it was searching for a lie. "I sense no lies in that, but you're also hiding something." Jon sighed. "I di-" he tried to say "died", but everything froze around him. What the…?! he thought and watched as a black hand emerged from an equally black mist and scratched the scar over his heart. It hurt him, but nothing else happened.
Suddenly, everything started moving and Jon put his left hand over the scar that got scratched by the hand. "Are you okay?" the Targaryen look-alike asked him from behind. "Yes, I guess. It seems that someone forbids me from revealing something to you by threatening to open one of my scars…" he trailed off as he explained that, prepared to see the world stop, but nothing happened.
"Hmm… I sense the Miasma on you, but you're not a part of the Cult. Good thing. But, why is the Witch clinging to you?" Puck muttered. Wait what?! Witch?! Cult?! he thought and shook his head to stop the headache he got from thinking about these things. The more he knew, the more questions he had. "Well… I believe only in the Old Gods. Is there any Weirwood tree?" the former Lord commander asked back. "Weirwood tree? I hadn't heard about a tree like this ever existing in Lugnica, Kararagi or any other country on this continent."
"The tree is white with red leaves and a face carved into it." The spirit shook its head in a dismissive manner. That made Jon sigh. "So, they're native only in Westeros…" he muttered and noticed that the spirit flew towards the boy and made itself bigger. And Jon chose to ignore it.
"Are you awake?" a voice got through his unconscious state. Subaru slowly opened his eyes and noticed something strange. "Well… I never expected a girl's lap to be this hairy…" he muttered. "This doesn't seem right!" he muttered with an alarmed tone in his voice. Suddenly, a big cat's head entered his eyesight with something similar to a shit-eating grin visible.
"Are you awake?" it asked in a good imitation of a high-pitched girly voice. Subaru only paled at that. "AAAAAAAAAH!" he screamed as he jumped away to a nearby corner with a very disturbed look on his face. "N-no way that anyone would confuse a cat with the main heroine!" he shouted at the Furry.
"Main heroine? Do you really think that this is some sort of a heroic song or tale with you as the hero?" the guy in black asked him with an annoyed tone. The big wolf stood next to him and was… enjoying pats from the beautiful silver-haired girl! Damn you, mr. Wolf tamer! he thought and glared at his newest nemesis in the fight for her heart. Only to earn a sigh from the guy. "I never thought that I'd meet another Theon Grayjoy…" he muttered and turned towards the exit from the alley.
"Ghost, come here." The wolf came after its master, but the happy wiggling of its tail was gone, due to losing contact with the girl's hand. "We should probably get going, if you ever hope of finding the insignia on time." The girl slowly nodded at that. "Don't worry, Lia. From what he told me, he could be on par with Rem with weapon use." Subaru turned his head to the speaker and saw that the Furry was now smaller.
Who is this Rem person? the boy thought as went back to his dried track jacket and plastic bag with food he bought before he got transported to this new world. Subaru grabbed both the bag and the jacket and noticed that he was left alone in the alley. Are you kidding me?! he internally screamed and rushed out from the alley, only to see the unmistakable white & purple dress walking towards the direction of the main square, where he woke up.
"Hey! Wait up!" he shouted at the girl. She turned around with a surprised stare that changed into an angry one. Suddenly, he saw the man in black and his wolf coming through the crowd, accompanied by… a pink-haired maid?! This world has maid uniforms too?! Subaru had a hard time to stop himself from fainting about that discovery. "Miss Emilia, who is that dirty man?" the maid asked the girl.
"A passing acquaintance that I healed after him being beaten by three goons." The maid suddenly had a dark smirk on her face. "He is weak. A failure of the filthiest of men." The Wolf tamer had a neutral facade, but his eyes showed the hidden annoyance at hearing that. "We still don't know your name. Mister Snowflake had at least the decency to introduce himself."
Subaru stifled a laugh at hearing that and did one of his trained poses. "My name is Subaru Natsuki! Not that I am completely clueless, I'm also broke beyond compare!" he said proudly. The maid broke the resulting silence by sneezing cutely. "Can you at least use magic or have a brain in that thick skull you have?" the man asked him. "I'll check the magic part!" the cat announced as it suddenly appeared out of thin air.
"Do not bother doing that for Barusu. The knights can do it themselves, if they even deem him worthy of their presence." Subaru blinked at hearing that. "You already changed my name into a curse?!" he shouted in disbelief at the maid. "He can be just another shield in between Lia and any danger, Ram." Subaru glared at the cat. "That's all you see me? A shield?!" he nearly screamed at the smug looking spirit.
"Yes." The smug look got even bigger after that on both the cat spirit's and Ram's faces. "Where did you even find her?!" Subaru asked the guy and pointed at him. "Well…" he said and told the whole story.
A few minutes ago, dragon carriage parking place near the Merchant district main square of Lugnica
Ram was slowly getting more and more anxious. Lady Emilia promised to be back about ten minutes ago and she still was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, there was something big and white with a man in black clothes that also had a sword in a scabbard. "Are you Ram?" he asked her. "Yes, mister. My name is Ram. What do you want?" she answered. "I was told to come for you."
Ram raised an eyebrow at that suspicious announcement. "Who told you?" she demanded to know. "Emilia told me. She is currently on the other side of the main square of this district." Ram's suspicions about that man grew stronger, but she chose to follow him to confirm his words. "Very well, I'll go with you, mister…" The man sighed. "Sorry for my incompetence about forgetting to introduce myself. My name is Jon Snow."
I had never heard a family name like this. He might be a liar after all… she thought. "Snow is a surname given to a bastard in my homeland." Ram slightly smirked at that. An offspring of a noble then. I bet that he acted like every filthy man and killed his own family just to get that sword. "...mister Snowflake. Lead the way." The filthy man sighed in annoyance at her own version of his surname.
"Ghost, don't harm her." And after he said that, she remembered that giant of a wolf. Is he a Beast tamer?! she thought at seeing that wolf immediately obeying its master. "Ghost is a Direwolf. Just a bigger, faster and stronger version of its cousins: wolves and dogs. But, his appetite is not bigger than theirs." The maid internally sighed in relief. If she'll ever have to make food for it, she wouldn't need to make too much.
And after that, Jon Snow scratched his beast's ears and walked towards the main square. Ram immediately went after him and slowly prepared herself to cast a Fura spell to kill him, if he was like other men and tried to rape her in a side alley.
Jon looked at a girl that Emilia pointed out. She indeed looked lost and so, he approached her with a smile on his face. But Emilia beat him to it and the girl only started crying harder than before. It might be caused by her looks if nothing else… he realized and he saw Ram only glaring at the other girl for wasting time like that.
"Look. This is a 10¥ coin. Now, I'll clutch it in my hands tight, tight, tight… like that! And look! The coin went missing! But, I know, where it was hiding. Right here!" Jon rolled his eyes at Subaru's cheap trick with a coin that he saw several times already when he was still living in Winterfell. Strangely, it had the desired effect and the girl stopped crying.
"Hey, Snowflake!" the annoying boy shouted at him. "It's Snow. Jon Snow." Subaru smirked a bit at hearing that. "Would you let her ride on your beast until we find her family?" he asked. Jon knew that he had no choice, but to accept that proposal. "Fine. But, I can't guarantee that Ghost won't bite you. After all, even if he was 1 month old, he would still be able to open your neck."
They walked in silence for a while, when they heard the girl shout. "Daddy!" Jon turned his head and saw a bit buffed man with an angry stare all the time on his face. "Hey! It's that broke kid! I told you to fuck off already!" he shouted at Subaru and his expression softened after a while. "But, you brought me my daughter. So, find a job and become a customer next time!"
Jon shook his head at the sudden change. "Here, missy, take this." Jon looked at the small girl as she gave Emilia a flower-like accessory. "Thank you." Jon pulled out a parchment with Subaru's painting of the thief and showed it to the vendor. "Hmm… This looks like Felt. You can find her in a loot house located near the borders with the slums. She stole something from you, didn't she?" Ram nodded at that with a bit annoyed look in her eyes.
She looks like Ygritte with her personality… he finally realized and felt something sting in his chest as he saw some memories of the auburn Wildling girl. She, Tormund, Val and Mance… the only Wildlings he came to like and see more than simple friends. They were like an extension of his own family to him. Jon felt a single tear escape his eyes, so he wiped it down.
"What's the matter?" Emilia asked him. "I just remembered my family and friends. Everyone, but four are all dead. Either backstabbed, killed in battle by enemies or burned by a crazy woman that loves fire…" he trailed off as another wave of pain stung his heart. "And you did nothing, mister Snowflake. How predictable." The Bastard of Winterfell glared at the maid with a really angry stare.
"I wasn't able to help them! My duty as the sworn Brother of the Night's Watch forbade me from leaving my post. And my friends died, when we were defending the Wall from a 100 times bigger army than we had men, so it was inevitable that some of my Brothers would die. One of the dead people was the only woman that I loved…" he said and put his hand on Ghost's head. "Ghost here is my only companion left that followed me here."
"That Night's Watch sounds like a place filled with failures." Jon sighed at hearing that. "And you are partly true. It was filled with unwanted third sons, rapers, thieves, murderers, bastards and old men. I was one of the very few honorable recruits that joined the Watch willingly…" The maid snickered. "Honorable? As if. Men can't be like that." I can name a few. Lord Stark, Robb, Jon Arryn, ser Selmy… he thought
And then, he noticed that Subaru and Emilia were nowhere to be seen. Also, the sun was setting. Suddenly, he felt a cold chill run down his spine. Like there was one of the Others nearby, but that was impossible. He got the same feeling once before. The day of his death. "We should rather hurry." The maid raised an eyebrow at that, but nodded in approval of that one sentence. "Lady Emilia won't be safe for much longer. The spirit she is contracted with can protect her from 9 to 5. And it's almost 5."
Jon knew that she was speaking the truth and quickened his pace. But, the uneasiness he felt was only getting worse by each passing second.
Subaru turned on his flashlight before slowly approaching the loot house. It was a two story building that looked far better than anything else in the slums. Only the wooden planks that replaced glass made it clear that it was no tavern or shop. "I should go in first to scout it." The girl (which called herself Satella, even if the maid called her Emilia) nodded in response. But, before he could say anything else or go inside, he saw the big white wolf and its master running towards them.
The maid was sitting on the wolf and had a hard time with it. Her extraordinary pale skin had a noticeable green undertone. Snow turned to the wolf and helped the maid to stand on the ground. Subaru felt another sting of jealousy forming in his mind. However, he still noticed that the wolf was baring its teeth in a growling manner and stared at the loot house.
"Does he always do that on a building?" Subaru asked. "No. Ghost is sensing danger right now…" Snow answered and sniffled in the air. "Metal? No. That is blood…" the man in black muttered and drew his sword. It had a darker color than he expected. "What metal is that sword made of?" Satella inquired. "Valyrian steel. It was forged in the Old Valyria with the help of magic and dragon fire. There are only about 300 of them in Westeros. And not just swords, but daggers and axes too."
"I see…" Subaru replied and grew even more jealous right now. "Anyway, I and you should go in first. You have that light and I have a sword." This time, Subaru smiled at that. Even if he lacked a weapon or magic, light was crucial for those who wanted to fight in that dark building. And so, he opened the door and entered first. "I have a bad feeling about this…" Snow muttered a few seconds later.
Subaru continued with pointing his flashlight all over the place, when he stepped into something wet. He pointed the light on it and gasped in shock. It was blood! He slowly started with moving the flashlight upwards and saw a rather big old man sitting in a strange way. His neck had a huge hole in it and blood was all over his jaw. "Ah, so you noticed…" a feminine voice stated and after that, he felt pain and warmness forming near the place, where he had his stomach. It burns! he thought and saw Snow dropping on the ground next to him. Even he was holding his stomach.
"Subaru? Jon?" Satella's voice suddenly echoed in the building. "No… run! Go... away!" he tried to shout, but it sounded more like pained gasps than shouts. And a second later, Satella dropped on the ground. Subaru slowly moved his right hand towards her left and tried to think of anything else than the pain. No matter what… his hand reached hers and slowly closed around it. I'll save you! he finished his thought and then, saw nothing more.
