Caught Somewhere In Time

I try to live my life where I end up at a point where I have no regrets. So I try to choose the road that I have the most passion on because then you can never really blame yourself for making the wrong choices. You can always say you're following your passion.

Edward was looking at her with a pained expression, she knew then and there that she was dying. She had chosen to give birth to their child, and she didn't regret it. She slowly exhaled her last breath, and everything went black.

…..

Riiiiiiiiing

Bella woke up with a start. Where was she? She tried to disentangle herself from the sheets of the bed she was lying in, and after much effort she turned on the light.

"Impossible." She whispered. She was in her room back in Phoenix, her luggages ready, it was the day she was going back to Forks.

But how was that possible? It couldn't have been a dream, it was impossible to believe that she had gone through hell and back just to have to start everything all over again. Edward… Jacob… she had lost everything in a moment.

How? How could she go through it all again? Why was she given this chance to go back in time? Was this a curse or a blessing? Had she chosen wrong? Was she destined for something different?

Bella shook her head, she needed time to absorb everything. She was going back to Forks, to Charlie, and she didn't know if everything was going to happen the way it had the first time. Were there instances in which she might have wanted to do things differently? She bit her lip, stood up and went for a shower.

She would have time to think things over on the plane to Forks, now she wanted a shower and to spend time with her mother. She had given her up for Edward, but she had dearly missed her.

After the shower, she enjoyed breakfast with her mum. At the airport Renée hugged her tightly, and she whispered. "May Forks brings you all the joy and happiness you deserve."

Bella's eyes widened. She didn't remember if the first time her mother had uttered those words. But now they were etched in her mind. Joy and happiness, she wondered when was the last time she had felt those emotions. Being with Edward had been a dream come true, but at what price? How many tears had been shed, and how many friends had been hurt?

Now that she had this new opportunity would she still want to be with Edward? Only one way to find out, she was going to meet him again in the cafeteria on her first day of school. She sighed, she was arriving in Forks on Saturday and she would start on Monday, three days free from her Edward. Once upon a time she couldn't fathom to be separated from him for so long, but after he had left her for months on end, she knew she could live without him. At least for a few days.

When she arrived in Forks, Charlie picked her up, and when they arrived at home they met Jake, Billy and her new truck. Bella looked at Jacob, a younger version of her shifter best friend. This young Jacob still had his long hair, his eyes were bright, and he was untouched yet by the mess she had made of both their lives.

She didn't know how it happened, but when her father introduced her to him again, instead of offering her hand she went for a hug. The blush that marred his face mirrored her blush, she then shrugged her shoulders and invited the two Blacks for lunch.

While she was cooking, Billy and Charlie were watching sports in the living room, and Jacob was watching her cooking in the kitchen.

"Hey Bells, I know you might be tired, but I was wondering if tonight you wanted to go to a bonfire down in La Push." Jacob said almost timidly.

Bella turned to look at him, her eyes softened at this sweet and young Jake. She turned away when she felt tears threatening to fall, she would never have her Jake back. The Jacob who had gone through thick and thin for her, who had fought for her until her last breath. "I'm not tired Jake, I will ask Charlie, and if he agrees I will be happy to go with you."

"That's great Bells! I will go and ask him, he never says no to me!" Jacob said happily, and while she watched him bounce out of her kitchen with a smile, she felt again a sadness rise in her heart. In her first attempt at a life in Forks she hadn't gone to the bonfire, was this going to change something? She didn't know, she just hoped that it didn't.

After eating lunch, Charlie took back the Blacks with the promise to let Bella go for the bonfire in the evening. Bella spent the afternoon rearranging her room, and after taking another shower she was ready to go to La Push. When she got down the stairs she saw her father ready to go out as well.

"Where are you going dad?" She asked him.

"I'm coming with you Bella, I will spend time with Billy and we can go back together when the bonfire is over. Don't worry I will let you and Jacob spend the evening without any fussing parents around. I just don't want you to drive alone in the dark on an unknown road." Charlie blushed then.

Bella was gaping at her father, she had never heard him talking like that ever, and he had never expressed his worry for her that way. She was moved by it, he was behaving like a loving father. She smiled at him. "Ok dad, but I will be driving the truck."

Charlie smiled back. "Yes, you need to get used to it."

So the drive to La Push was spent in a companionable silence. For the first time since she had woken up into this different reality Bella felt happy, she was with her father going to see Jake, she couldn't ask for more. The time for worry could be postponed until Monday.

When she arrived, she saw Jacob, Quill and Embry waiting for her. It was strange to see them so young and small, she remembered them tall and buff.

"Hey Bells, you remember Quill and Embry?" Jacob said.

She nodded, and smiled. "Hi everyone."

They guys nodded, and then Bella left with them with a promise to be back by midnight.

Bella and the guys arrived at the bonfire when it was already in full swing. It was full of Quileute kids. Bella saw Embry and Quill move away, while Jacob stuck to her side. The music was loud and she couldn't hear a word of what Jacob was saying, they got into the crowd and somehow she got lost, she decided to try and go back to where she had come from.

A pair of arms grabbed her from behind, and a whisper in her ear got her skin erupt in goosebumps. "Are you lost, baby?" She knew she had heard this voice somewhere else, and the reaction of her body had shocked her enough not to try to get free. She slowly turned her head, and she met the amused eyes of one of the handsomest guys she has ever seen.

"I'm Paul, what's your name beautiful?" He said, and smirked.

Bella was taken aback, this was Paul, pre-wolf Paul, young and handsome and free from his duties to the tribe. In the other life he had never looked at her in that way. She could see admiration, and playfulness in his gaze. She smiled at him. "I'm Bella." She whispered, still letting him hold her.

He turned around. "You wanna dance with me?"

She blushed. "Sorry, I don't dance. I've got two left feet." She joked with him.

The boy who was looking at her with interest was in such stark contrast with the shifter who hated her on site that she couldn't control her reactions.

His smile widened, he took one of her hands and placed it on one of his shoulders. Then he did the same with her other hand. She found herself with her hands around his neck. He started moving slowly. "See, it's not difficult. You just need to follow my lead."

Bella was watching Paul, in her other life she had only been in Jacob and Edward arms. Being in Paul arms, human Paul, was such a different experience that she couldn't tear herself away from him. At the moment she didn't belong to anyone, she wasn't betraying anyone. At least that was what her brain was trying to make her believe.

Paul pulled her closer, and Bella didn't fight him. Surprisingly she wasn't being her usual clumsy self, and she was enjoying dancing with him.

Of all the wolves, Paul had been the scariest, darkest and angrier of them all. She remembered that he had imprinted on Rachel, Jacob's sister, but she didn't know if he had been happy about it. She bit her lip, and looked up at him. He was watching her with his intense eyes, and his hands were caressing her waist.

Bella knew that she needed to get away, but something strange had taken hold of her body. She wasn't able to let him go. She was shook out of her reveries when a hand pulled her away from Paul.

The hand belonged to Jacob. "Bells! I've been looking for you for ages! Sorry that I lost you." He then turned to look at Paul glaring. "Hands off her, Lahote."

Paul pulled his hands away from her, and put them up in surrender. His smirk told another story though. "Easy there baby Chief, we were just dancing. Weren't we Bella?"

The way he said her name brought a new reaction from her body, a warmth that shouldn't be there. She couldn't believe it, her body was betraying her in a way she didn't expect. She nodded. "I got lost, and I met Paul." She said.

Jacob looked annoyed for a moment, then he turned back to his sunny self. "It's okay Bells. Let's go now."

Bella turned to look at Paul, he winked at her, and then turned around and disappeared. She watched his retreating back until she couldn't see him anymore.

"Bella! What were you thinking? Do you know who he is?" Jacob ranted.

Bella looked at Jake. "Paul?"

Jacob pinched his nose. "Don't play dumb Bella, I meant to say, that he's a player, so stay the hell away from him."

Bella nodded, and then spent the rest of the night with Jacob, Quill and Embry.

That night in her new bed, she spent an insane amount of time thinking about Paul, mostly her reaction to him. Sleep arrived at the early hours of the new day, and surprisingly, she dreamt of a dark silver wolf with playful eyes.
