Master Quest

It's been quiet a while since I wrote and luckily I started this chapter as I put the last one out. Though this one won't be as long as the previous chapters. Seeing as I'm trying to get two chapters out a week. So me getting invested into this is a blessing in of itself.

Also about the things I did last chapter. They will hold some significance in the future as right now is more of slow build until we get to that point. So for now enjoy this chapter as we continue our journey into the unknown.

Chapter 41: The Surge

One Week Later

Degas Island

"Alright Sapphire now use Dragon Pulse." Naruto called out as his fast moving dragon type moved through the air at Sonic speeds. Before unleashing a large beam of energy at the moving duo of Natsu and Bobba.

Natsu quickly enveloped himself in red energy. An effect used by his Bulk Up as Bobba dogged under the ground dodging the attack with Natsu taking it full force. Though if he showed any signs of being hurt he hid it well as the area around him shook. Before Bobba unleashed a Dragons Rage breaking open the ground as Sapphire simply coated her hands in blue energy shaping them into claws.

She quickly dived down as Bobba coated her hands in dark purple energy using Shadow Claw that clashed with Sapphire's Dragon Claw. The two attacks clanged like metal as they went at it with Bobba using his smaller frame to jump around, but Sapphire was able to keep track with her superior speed. Which allowed her to turn around using her Iron Tail to block Natsu's Brick Break. The two being in a stalemate. Before Sapphire roared flapping her wings rapidly with the winds forcing both smaller dragons to jump back. As Sapphire used that moment to rushed Bobba slamming her Dragon Claw against her sending her flying into the rock wall. Natsu quickly rushed in as Sapphire turned and unleashed a Dragon Pulse. But Natsu saw it coming as he decided to use one of his new moves. His aura around him becoming more wild as he took one step cracking the ground, before letting out a loud roar as he rushed in having used Outrage.

BOOM!

The two attacks clashed as Natsu was sent flying back and into the water of the ocean. As Naruto sweated drop knowing Natsu had been trying to learn a new move and thanks to his training on the island he had picked up on the basics of Outrage. Though trying to learn it was more troublesome then they had first thought possible. Luckily Sapphire was here to help him and Bobba who at this point was trying to improve her current move set.

"Alright you three I think that's enough for today. Come on let's head back." Naruto grabbed the few things he brought as he used some potions on Natsu and Bobba while Sapphire ate some fruit.

It had been one week since they left the island with their journey across the high seas being calm. Compared to the dangers of going into the island. Going out was a peace of cake and the first place they found was here on degas island. Calm area that was used for pit stops going to Cinabar island. Of course Naruto wanted to continue on he knew his two companions needed the time away as he could tell they had a different experience compared to him.

As they were making their way back he thought back to the professor and how he had been worried about him. Along with Delilah and Ash as the three hadn't been able to contact him for a week. His Pokémon had been particularly worried with Z not able to sense him for a while. Though he calmed them all down when he told them they had just been stranded on a island and they had only been able to leave now. Of course Z knew something was up and once they had landed here she had wanted to be by his side. Which Karin agreed with as Celebi was glad to see her and everyone again.

"Seems your training went okay." Naruto looked up in the trees to find Z standing on a branch looking down on them.

"Shouldn't you be back with the others. I know how Keith gets when he's given to much food." Naruto said as she jumped down next to him.

"Don't worry Bolt and Kurama are their to watch him. And I know that girl Karin will make sure he doesn't eat up all the food."

"How's he been." Naruto asked her as Z looked at him knowing who he was talking about.

"He's been to himself. Though after you disappeared he has started to talk to us more and more. I think he's starting to return back to his normal self. Though the process is slow going."

"I'm amusing Eve and Bolt have been helping."

"Those two care a lot about him. Just as much as you so they have made sure to be with him every now and then."

"At least he has someone their with him."

"What about Natsu. Have you been able to get that power inside of him to come out?"

"No in fact I don't even know what that power is?"

"You didn't ask the dragons on the island."

"Even they didn't know. The power they sensed in him was unlike anything they had seen. Rey said it was a power similar to one of the legendary. Though that is all she could tell me."

"Well hopefully you can find answers later down the road."

"Hey weren't you supposed to be watching the egg to." Naruto asked as Z smirked pulling out a bag that had the egg nestled inside of it.

"Don't worry young Naruto I have this all covered. Though you should head back. I can smell that your food is already prepared."

Naruto laughed as he took the egg from her as she jumped into the trees going off to do what she has been doing since she got here. Which was jeep look out. Though he would call it excessive he understood given what they have been through this journey. Though as he made his way through the leaves did he see his friends setting up the food as Inari was probably in town gathering supplies for when they departed.

"Hey girls sorry I'm late." Naruto walked up to them as his three Pokémon came flying down with Sapphire helping them down from her arms.

"How did the training go." Erica asked.

"Well you can ask these two." Naruto pointed down at the two dirty Pokemon who huffed.

"Haha. Got your butts whooped again." Karin teased as they turned away to embarrassed.

"Now Karin don't tease them. You two go get washed up." Erica said the two going to the small pond they had stayed by.

"Inari still in town." Naruto asked.

"Yeah though he should be back soon." Karin said as she served up the Pokémon's food.

"What was he even gonna get. I mean we have our new boat. It's not like anything is keeping us here longer." Naruto wondered.

"He needed to get some supplies to his home remember. Us being stuck on an island for a week didn't help him his situation. Luckily us staying here while he went and delivered them gives him a little time to relax just like us." Erica spoke up.

"Or as much relaxation as we can get. You on the other hand seen to want to train even harder." Karin said.

"Sorry, but I want to help Natsu here with his power. It will be his first gym battle so I want to make sure he is prepared for it." Naruto said looking over at said Pokemon.

"Well don't push him to hard. You have to give your Pokémon a break every now and then." Erica stated.

"Don't worry you two. We'll take a break every now and then." The three soon getting everything ready as they called all their Pokémon to eat.

Port

"Thanks for this. My family will love it." Inari gave the man running the stand money as he took the bags heading back to where the kids were camping. As they wanted a room, but this island was a busy place and thus no rooms were free for them.

As he was walking away and through the port that many ships were coming and going from. He saw that it truly was a middle point in the ocean. Though he wondered what else this place had he would figure out later as he made his way back to the others.

"Hey what is that." A random person said as many others turned towards the ocean. Inari also looking at what they were seeing many dark shadows underneath the water floating into the port. Until a head popped up it being that of a small blue Pokémon.

"Aaah a Horsea." One of the ladies calls out.

Then another pops out and another. Then a bigger Pokémon one Inari immediately recognized as a Seadra. Came out of the water it's face showing anger as they shot out globs of water scaring the people away and hitting the ships nearby as the crew on board had to jump off once they started to sink.

"What the heck are they doing."

"RUN!"

"Somebody stop them."

Inari was rushing through the crowd of people who were running in all directions as the ships in the port were being attacked by the many water type seahorse Pokemon. With those on the ship trying to fight back with their Pokémon, but being stopped by more Seadra's popping up and attacking.

"I got to the warm the kids." He said.

Back with the Trio

"How you doing Kurama." Naruto sat down next to his Fox like companion who was looking at everyone from under the shade of a tree not to far off.

"You don't have to watch me to closely. I'm not gonna do anything reckless." Kurama said.

"Is that what you call ignoring Gramps when I asked him if he could transfer you to me." Naruto looked down at his fox Pokémon his face turned away from him.

"I had to have time for myself." He simply said.

"I understand a week away. Maybe two, but being away for nearly a month. Kurama I know it was hard and-."

"I almost killed you." His words cut him off as Naruto looked at him with sadden expression. His aura one of regret and as he looked at his good buddy. It brought a tear to his eye as he rubbed his back.

"You and me both know it wasn't you. Whatever Orochimaru did to you it's over. Your back with us."

"Am I though? Because lately I haven't felt myself."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm surprised Bolt and Eve haven't told you. They always watch me each night and each night I'm always releasing this aura. The same one that I had when I was captured and turned against you. They getting fearful I might go on another rampage and I don't blame them. I fear that to."

"You know Kurama sometimes you worry to much."

"Well you weren't controlled by somebody."

"Really. Because I'm pretty sure me almost being controlled by my darker half counts."

"How are you feeling with that."

"Honestly I don't know. Knowing that another half of me is inside me. It scares me and though I'm scared it might take over when I'm around my closet friends. I wake up knowing I'm am still here and as long as I have that. I think we'll be fine."

Kurama smirked at his trainer. Closing his eyes as he continued to rub his back knowing he liked this feeling a lot. And the two watched the people they were afraid they would hurt. The ones they saw as family and the thought that they would lose them by their own hands would always put fear in them.

"But just maybe I can overcome that fear and use this power. To protect them.."

As they sat their in silence it was broken by a loud shout as everyone turned towards the road to town. Seeing Inari running towards them obviously in a hurry and his face showed worry as he stopped just inches from them as he had to bend down and take a breath.

"Inari are you okay?" Erica asked.

"Why were you running?" Karin then asked as she handed him a bottle of water. The cap flying off as he chuffed it down with Naruto and Kurama walking up to them.

"The port it's being attacked." He simply said as everyone had wide eyes.

"WHAT?!"

And with a quick explanation everyone quickly ran into town Naruto leading the charge as he rushed down the path. His friends yelling at him to wait, but Naruto wasn't gonna wait as people were in danger. Sapphire flying above him with Natsu and Bobba in her hands. As down below Keith was riding atop Bolt who was keeping up with Kurama even with the weight on its back. The two got on Naruto's tail.

"Come on guys who knows how many people are in danger." And true to his words a loud explosion was heard as he picked up his pace.

"How is he so fast?" Karin asked breathing hard.

"God damn kids these days." Inari said as they tried to go faster.

As the three tried to catch up to Naruto. He had already arrived as he saw the port in ruins as Seadra's and Horsea were all around shooting their respective attacks into ships and buildings close to the waters. Their he saw the police and their Pokémon trying to subdue the Pokémon.

"We have to stop them from destroying anymore buildings." Officer Jenny called out as her partner Pokemon Flareon fired off flames towards the Pokemon who dived under water. Popping back out to shoot Water Gun at the two causing them to fall back.

"We can't stop them." Another officer said.

"Bolt now use Thunderbolt." Naruto called out as Keith quickly got off with his yellow fox unleashing a torrent of electricity that shocked the whole water as those close immediately were knocked out as others turned their attention to him.

"HEY KID GET BACK!" Officer Jenny called out.

"Now Keith use Icy Wind." Naruto said ignoring the officer. As his Pokemon took a deep breath, before releasing a cold wind that started to freeze the waters and stop those in the water in their tracks.

Kurama was next to him as he shot out Confuse Ray's at each frozen Pokémon who once they were freed from their bindings shot attacks at those around them causing a mass infighting that Naruto quickly took advantage of.

"Now Bolt use Discharge." And with a loud cry all the Pokémon were shocked causing most of them to go unconscious as the others were swimming away.

"Look their retreating. I think the kid did it." One officer said.

"Seems that kid is a well trained trainer." Officer Jenny sighed thanking him for coming when he did as they didn't know if they could stop them.

BOOM!

Everyone's attention was drawn to one of the many sinking ships as they were blown away and the water started to move. As a large shadow made its way to them, before a burst of dark blue energy shot out as Naruto and his Pokemon ducked the attack hitting the building behind them.

"The hell was that." Naruto looked down as the water moved around and a large figure sprouted out its glare set dead on him.

Ding

Kingdra (Water/Dragon) The Dragon Pokemon.

It is said that it usually hides in underwater caves. It can create whirlpools by yawning.

"Well at least we found their leader." Naruto got up as his other Pokémon did as well looking down at the large Pokémon.

"NARUTO!" Karin and the other arrived with wide eyes as they saw the destruction brought about by the Pokemon.

"Stay back we don't need anymore civilians hurt." Officer Jenny got in front of them stopping them from going any further.

"No hes our friend let us help." Erica said only to be stopped by her Pokemon.

"Don't worry guys I got this. Ain't that right y'all." Naruto spoke as his final three Pokemon landed behind him Natsu and Bobba jumping off and preparing for battle.

The Kingdra continued to glare at him as it growled out and more Seadra's popped out from the water beside it. As they numbered the dozens all of whom were staring at him and his Pokemon with battle ready faces.

"I guess I'll make the first move. Now Sapphire use Dragon Pulse." Naruto called out his Pokemon flying into the air and unleashing the purple blast that shaped like a dragon rushed to them with the Seadra scattering. As the Kingdra fired off a similar attack that clashed with her move the two causing an blast.

Bolt jumped onto the debris around the area using Pin Missile to attack the Seadra trying to shoot Water Pulse's at him as his quick movements made it impossible for them. With their distractions on him it allowed Natsu and Bobba to attack them with Natsu jumping from head to head with Dragon Tail while Bobba used Dragons Rage to take them out. As Keith kept them from coming back with Ich Wind.

"Quick Kurama assist him with Dark Pulse." Naruto called out as he saw Sapphire moving away from an Ice Beam that the Kingdra was shooting at her.

Kingdra stopped its attack quickly ducking underwater and moving at fast speeds as it popped up and shot off a Water Pulse. With Kurama quickly jumping into a broken ship and firing off a Flamethrower. The attack almost hitting him, but he was able to dodge. As Sapphire flew above and tried to use Iron Tail. But Kingdra countered with Iron Head. The two attacks clashing as Kingdra went back underwater with the two being on high alert. As his companions were on the sidelines watching it all with intrigue.

"Why are they attacking the port." Inari asked the question that had been on their mind.

"Usually these types of Pokémon wouldn't attack so suddenly." Erica said.

"Not unless they were provoked in some way." Karin stated.

"But what couldve provoked them?" Inari asked.

Erica was about to ask another question till she saw something out of the corner of her eye. As she turned towards the small town. As she saw walked over to an alley and looked down it to only to see a bunch of men in black cloaks loading some cage. But inside the cage was a Pokémon she hadn't seen before as he hummed out a song.

"Hey what are you doing." Erica called out as they turned towards her as she saw what they were wearing. As she gained wide eyes at the big letter R in the shirt.

"Shit a kid saw us." One of them said.

"Forget her and let's get to the other side." Another grunt said as they quickly sped off with Erica running after them.

"STOP!"

"Huh Erica?" Karin turned seeing her friend running away.

"Where is she going?" Inari asked.

"I don't know. But she wouldn't just run off." Karin said.

"We can't let her go by herself then." Inari was already running towards her as Karin looked at Naruto.

"NARUTO! Erica running off somewhere." Karin called out.

"What where is she going." Naruto asked as the Kingdra fired off another attack, before stopping mid swim looking around, before calling out to the others as they all started to retreat confusing him.

"Where the hell are they going."

"Naruto something wasn't right with that Pokemon. It wasn't using its full power." Bolt spoke up as he jumped back to shore along with the others.

"What are you saying?" He asked.

"He means that they weren't in a hurry to destory everything. They were searching for something." Kurama spoke up feeling their emotions. As Naruto looked at them with a raised eyebrow.

"Naruto." Z's voice spoke up in his head as he looked around for her.

"Z? Where are you." He asked.

"I'm on another part of the island. And it seems I found some trouble. Naruto it's Team Rocket." Z was looking through the trees as she saw a few of them preparing their boat and gathering some supplies.

"Damn so that's who they are chasing." Naruto quickly recalled his Pokemon except for Sapphire as he got on her back quickly flying into the air.

"Easy Naruto there is quiet a few of them. Let me deal with them first."

"No I know why they are here. And why the port was attack by that Kingdra."

"What are you talking about?"

"They have one of their own in their hands." Naruto was soon in the air going the path that they were heading.

30 Mins Later

A truck was barely through the trees as the road was bumpy and the ground made the truck go up a lot more then what the people on the inside were used to as they broke through the tree line. As those on the beach looked on in shock as the truck got to a stop in front of them with the grunts quickly getting out.

"Help us with this thing quick. That damn Kingdra followed us and destroyed our boat." One of them said.

"And we got someone talking us." Another one spoke.

"Shit how far were they." Another spoke up.

Though he was given an answer when a blast from above hit in front of them blowing back those close to the shore. As Naruto and Sapphire landed in front of them with both glaring at the grunts carrying the cage as he saw the Pokémon inside of it and the sound of a something akin to singing being blessed to his ears.

"Help me.."

Naruto tightened his fist as he heard the plea from the Pokémon and how hurt it sounded. Which brought him anger as he pulled out one of his Pokeballs.

"Go Kurama." His fox Pokemon appearing beside him as it growled at the grunts.

"Shit quick deal with him." The lead grunt said as the ones not carrying the cage sent out their Pokémon which were Ekans and Zubat. Though if Naruto was worried he didn't show it.

"Kurama use Flamethrower." In a quick burst of flames the Pokémon were knocked right out.

"Oh shit." One of the grunts said, before he was kicked in the face.

Naruto taking action as he spun on his hands kicking the ones beside him into the world of unconscious land. As he got back up and rushed in as two others carrying the cage went in to subdue the kid, but Naruto was faster as he ducked picking up a rock and flinging it into the other grunts face as he cried out in pain. Before Kurama came from above and wrapped the both of them by the necks and slamming their heads together.

"What the hell is this kid." The lead grunt said, before the cage he was holding was lifted off their hands as Sapphire flew up and away from them.

"Now Kurama use Iron Tail." Naruto called out his Pokemon rushing in and knocking the last two out.

"Seems you had it covered." Z jumped down one of the grunts in her shoulder having knocked out the rest of them on the ship.

"The element of surprise always comes in handy. Now Sapphire bring it down gently." Naruto said as she brought the cage down slowly putting it down as she broke the lock. Allowing whatever was inside to get out.

"Come on little one."

Naruto slowly kneeled in front of the cage hand out as he quickly pulled some food from his pocket to try and gain its trust as a fin was seen, before another made it into the light and the Pokémon showed its face along with its round nose.

Ding

Popplio(Water) The Sea Lion Pokemon

This Pokémon snorts body fluids from its nose, blowing balloons to smash into its foes. It's famous for being a hard worker.

"Thank you for saving me." The small little seal said as it tried to move, but it flinched as Naruto saw the many bruises it had.

"Hey it's okay. Don't move to much." He pulled out a small potion spraying it in the more serious ones.

"What happened little one?" Z asked kneeling next to it.

"They caught me when I was wandering away from my family. They hurt me real bad and my singing brought the Kingdra and others to save me." The little Popplio said as Naruto wrapped some bandages around her fins.

"Their that should help until we get you to a Pokemon center." Naruto said picking her up as she snuggled up into his warm embrace.

"We got company." Sapphire said as she and Kurama got in front of them as out of the water came Kingdra and his people. All of whom were glaring at him, but the Kingdra looked at the Pokémon in his hands the two having a staring contest.

"Thank you for everything Kingdra." The Popplio said as the Kingdra bowed looking at Naruto.

"The next time we meet human. Let us do battle."

And with those final words he departed along with the rest of his flock all to a place down the road. Naruto knew they would meet again as he felt their roads might be different, but they all would lead to their reunion.

"Now about you little one."

"Cindy."

"Huh?"

"My name is Cindy."

"Well Cindy. I'm Naruto nice to meet you."

"Seems the others are almost here. I'll meet back up with you later Naruto." Z said, before disappearing into the forest.

"Now let's go and get you healed up." With that Naruto returned his Pokemon before walking to the approaching police.

Next Day

"Alright kiddos hope you got everything. Because we are setting sail." Inari yelled out as he steered the ship away from the docks.

"Ah I'm going to miss our vacation time on that island." Karin was stretching as she looked over the horizon Erica sitting down next to her.

"My first time on an island vacation wasn't so bad if I do say so myself." She said the two enjoying the clear weather and sun rays.

"Don't worry you two. We'll have another time to go back. But right now I think my gym challenge awaits." Naruto said as he leaned on the side of the boat watching as they sailed through the water. As a special seal Pokemon jumped up on his shoulder watching the water passing by.

"You think it was wise for you to take her with us. Officer Jenny said she would find her home with the help from neighboring islands." Erica said.

"True, but I think this little one wanted to come with us."

"And how do you know that?" Karin asked.

"Just a trainers intuition." Naruto smirked as he patted her head with Cindy giving a large smile.

"Thank you for letting me join you on your journey." She said.

"Well you wouldn't be able to find them stuck on that island now would you. Maybe we'll make some memories on our way their huh."

The two laughed as Cindy clapped her fins with Naruto smiling and enjoying her little singing as he looked over the waters. His seventh gym badge ever so close and his goal within sight. As his road now has another companion to join along in this epic adventure.

This chapter became this long because I got inspiration half way through it and thought might as well. Also I added Popplio as a special Pokémon placement for all of you to decide for me. Should she be a permanent part of Naruto's team or should I let her go back with her family. I'll let you all decide that.

Second thing I wanna say is that next chapter will be a kind two partner. Not for the battle that will be after. But more or less we are approaching the mark of 50 chapters. Something I thought I wouldn't get for any of my stories. But this one I did and I'm proud. So I'll try to make the 50th episode special for all of you.
