It was the next morning that Ember and her Pokémon (Tesla and Lucario. Boltund is in his Pokéball) left Viridian City and were walking through the Viridian Forest which was where beginner trainers were able to find a lot of bug Pokémon. They were excited to be in the forest and both hoped to find some more Pokémon for their team. After walking for awhile, they spotted a Pokémon.

"A Caterpie." Ember took out her Rotom Phone:

[Caterpie, the Worm Pokémon. To repel enemies, Caterpie releases an unpleasant odor from its red antenna. It molts several times while growing.]

"How about we catch it?" Ember asked.

"(A Bug Type Pokémon would be a handy one to have.)" Lucario said.

"Rai." Tesla greeted the Bug type Pokémon.

"Catepie!" Caterpie greeted back.

"Well it looks like Tesla just made a new friend." Ember said.

"(It seems like Tesla is able to make any kind of friend.)" Lucario commented.

Ember nodded in agreement.

"(So, will you catch it?)" Lucario asked.

"Sure, that would be great." Ember replied.

She walked up to Tesla and Caterpie. When the two noticed her, she knelt down in front of them, "Caterpie." The said Pokémon looked up at Ember. "Would you like to come with us? We'll help you evolve into a Butterfree before you know it."

Caterpie stared at Ember, Lucario, and Tesla for a moment and smiled, "Caterpie!"

Ember took out a Pokeball and tapped Caterpie on its forehead and soon it was sucked inside. The Pokeball wiggled three times before it dinged.

"Yes, we got a Caterpie!" Ember posed with Lucario and Tesla.

After a few minutes of walking, the trio decided to take a break. They luckily found a good camping place next to a lake. Ember took out the bowls of Pokémon food for her Pokémon and let them out to have some while she took out a few sandwiches from her backpack.

Soon after lunch was finished, Ember and her Pokémon cleaned up and set up camp. The next day, she and her Pokémon decided to train for a week before heading off to Pewter City.

A week had come by and most of Ember's Pokémon evolved. Her Pidgey had evolved into a Pigeotto, Shiny Magikarp into Gyarados (which she named Rory), and Caterpie into a Metapod. During the training days, she managed to capture a Scyther and a Nidoran couple.

When the week of training and relaxing was up, it was time to head to Pewter City. They packed up and Ember healed all of her Pokémon. She returned them to their Pokéballs except Lucario and Tesla before heading out.

Ember, Tesla, and Lucario were walking along the path, but stopped when they noticed that a bush was rustling near them. The trio tensed for a moment until the bush stopped moving for a second. Then a boy wearing a Samurai outfit came out of the bushes. On the side of his hip, he held a katana.

"Who are you?" Ember asked, on guard with Tesla and Lucario.

"I am Samurai. I'm looking for Ember Ketchum of Pallet Town. Are you Ember Ketchum?" 'Samurai' asked.

"I am." Ember replied.

"My search is over then." Samurai pointed at her, "I challenge you to a Pokémon battle!"

"Before we do that pal," Ember started, "Who told you about me?"

"Oh, I challenged another trainer from Pallet Town. The one with many cheerleaders, he had told me that I should have no trouble defeating you." Samurai stated.

"(He must be pretty stupid to believed Gary)." Lucario commented.

"Agreed," Ember whispered to Tesla and Lucario and turned to Samurai, "I accept your challenge."

"Then we shall have a two on two Pokémon battle." Samurai declared.

Ember and Samurai were on opposites of the field. Lucario stood next to Ember while Tesla was on her shoulder.

"Pinsir, I choose you!" Samurai threw a Pokéball in the air and a brown stag beetle-like Pokémon came out.

Ember took out her Rotom Phone and scanned the Pokémon.

[Pinsir, the Stag Beetle Pokémon. This fearsome Pokémon uses its powerful claws to put the squeeze on its opponents.]

"Alright then, Pidgeotto, I choose you!" Ember released her Pidgeotto.

"Pidgeot!" Pidgeotto screeched.

"I will let you make the first move." Samurai said.

"Thank you," Ember smiled, "Pidgeotto, use Tackle!"

Pidgeotto flapped her wings and flew upwards. Then she shot straight towards Pinsir and hit it before it could dodge. Samurai was impressed by Pidgeotto's speed.

"Pinsir, use Bite!" Samurai ordered.

"Dodge with Agility! Then use Steel Wing!" Ember ordered.

Pidgeotto disappeared when Pinsir tried to use its Bite attack which caused it to miss. Then Pidgeotto appeared behind Pinsir as her wings glowed white and struck Pinsir who soon cried out in pain.

"Pinsir!" Samurai yelled.

"Finish it up with Quick Attack, Pidgeotto!" Ember commanded.

Pidgeotto disappeared once more and appeared in front of Pinsir. Then she landed the blow which sent Pinsir off its feet and land near Samurai's feet. It soon passed out in defeat and swirls appeared in its eyes.

"Way to go, Pidgeotto!" Ember cheered.

"Pidgeot!" Pidgeotto chirped happily.

"Good job, Pinsir. Rest well." Samurai returned Pinsir to its Pokéball. Then he released his final Pokémon, "Go Metapod!"

Ember was about to return Pidgeotto when suddenly two large mechanical arms shot out of the clearing only for Tesla and Lucario to jump in the air and use Iron Tail to smash it to pieces. Tesla and Lucario stood protectively in front of Ember growling at the bushes while Tesla's cheeks sparked with electricity.

"Who dares interrupt our battle?!" Samurai yelled as he unsheathed his sword, "Show yourself!"

"With pleasure!" a familiar voice spoke causing Ember, Tesla, and Lucario to flinch. Ember and her Pokémon recognized those voices, and sure enough a familiar trio walked out from the clearing. It was the same trio who broke into the Pokémon Center in Viridian City and failed to steal the Pokémon there.

"Identify yourselves!" Samurai yelled.

"Prepare for trouble," Jessie said.

"Make it double," James said.

"To protect the world from devastation,"

"To unite all people within our nation,"

"To denounce the evils of truth and love,"

"To extend our reach to the stars above,"

"Jessie,"

"James,"

"Team Rocket blasting off at the speed of light,"

"Surrender now and prepare to fight,"

"Meowth that's right!" The Meowth said.

Samurai didn't know how to react so he decided to just stand there and look at them like the idiots that they are.

"Great, you three idiots again." Ember muttered.

Samurai looked at Ember, "You know these fools?" he questioned.

"Unfortunately," Ember nodded, "They're from Team Rocket and they steal people's Pokémon."

"I see." He said turning back to them, "State your business now or suffer the consequences!"

"Ohhh, I'm so scared." Jessie mocked.

"We have no business with you boy," James said, "Our business is with the-''

"You twerp and your Pokémon!" Meowth pointed to Ember and her Pokémon interrupting James.

Tesla and Lucario growled as Ember sighed.

"Why me?" Ember muttered. Then she let out Metapod, "Let's go, Metapod!"

Metapod appeared beside Tesla as Pidgeotto hovered next to them.

"Ekans, let's go!" Jessie called out her Pokémon.

"Let's go, Koffing!" James called out his Pokémon.

"Metapod, String Shot!" Ember ordered.

Metapod was quick to shut them up using the string to cover their mouths, making them shout muffled threats.

"Pidgeotto, use Gust!" Ember ordered and Pidgeotto flapped her wings which blew them away.

"TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" The trio shouted before becoming a twinkle in the sky.

"We did it/Rai/Pidgeot/Meta/(We did it)!" Ember and her Pokémon cheered.

At that moment, Metapod began glow as its cocoon opened and a Pokémon came out. The glow faded away to reveal Caterpie's final form: Butterfree.

"Metapod, you finally evolved!" Ember cheered as she quickly took out her Rotom Phone and scanned the Pokémon.

[Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokémon. Butterfree's love of flower nectar draws it to seek out flowers, even if they don't have much pollen.

Attacks: Gust, Tackle, String Shot, Super Sonic, Whirlwind, Sleep Powder, Stun Spore, Psybeam, Confusion, Bug Bite, Air Slash, Tailwind, Electroweb, Safeguard, Bug Buzz, and Giga Drain]

"Congratulations, Butterfree." Ember congratulated her Bug Type Pokémon.

"(Congrads, Butterfree)." Lucario smiled.

"Raichu! (You're finally a Butterfree!)" Tesla cheered.

Butterfree cheered as he flew around his friends. He was extremely happy at this moment.

Then Ember turned to Samurai, "Do you want to finish our battle?"

Samurai shook his head, "No, it is clear who the real trainer is." He bowed, "You are truly a strong trainer, stronger than the one with many cheerleaders."

"Thank you for the compliment." Ember bowed as well as her Pokémon.

"I take it that you're on your way to challenge the gyms, correct?" Samurai asked.

"Yes, my Pokémon and I are on our way to Pewter City to battle Brock the gym leader who specializes in the rock-type Pokémon." Ember replied, "If it's not too much to ask, but could you help lead us out of this forest?"

"I would be honored." Samurai responded.

Ember returned her Pokémon back into their Pokéballs except Tesla and Lucario. Samurai soon brought them onto the path to Pewter City.

"Thank you, Samurai." Ember thanked him.

"You're welcome and I wish you luck on your future battles, my friend." Samurai said and walked away into the tree line, disappearing from sight.

"Shall we continue?" Ember asked her Pokémon.

They shouted with excitement and continued down the path to Pewter City.
