The gang decided to take a small break before heading to Celadon City. Ember wanted to train her Pokémon before they get there. So they decided to camp for a week before getting there. During their training, four of her Pokémon had evolved. Scorbunny into Raboot, Fennekin into Braixen, and Krabby into Kingler. The three were very happy in their new forms especially Kingler who was small for his size as a Krabby when Ember first caught him and he was also happy with his new form and strangely enough that he was bigger than the regular size Kingler. After their training was done, Ember healed all of her Pokémon, made a good meal for all of them, and she and the gang went to sleep. The next day, the gang headed towards Celadon City.
At the moment, Ember was calling Professor Oak from a telephone booth while her friends were waiting for her nearby. She just wanted to let him know how she was doing so far.
["Yes? Hello?"] Prof. Oak's voice came through.
"Hey there Prof. Oak, its me Ember." Ember greeted.
["Ah Ember my girl! Where are you now?"] he asked.
"We're on our way to Celadon City." Ember replied.
["Oh, so that means that you have four badges now?"] Prof. Oak asked.
"Yup, why do you ask?" Ember asked, dreading the question.
["Well Gary already has five."] Prof. Oak replied.
"So?" Ember shrugged, "Besides, he probably got most of them from no named gyms which are easy to beat."
Prof. Oak's brow arched, ["How do you know that?"]
"When I battled Lt. Surge and Sabrina, they told me that Gary didn't battle them. So he must have heard the rumors about them and avoided them." Ember explained.
["I see. That does make sense."] Prof. Oak agreed.
"Well I have to get going, my friends are waiting for me." Ember said.
["Good luck in your gym battle, Ember."] Prof. Oak wished.
"Thank you, Professor." Then the screen went black.
Ember put the phone back and went back to the rock where her friends were waiting.
Ember and her friends were eating some rice balls that Brock had made.
"(These are so good.)" Lucario smiled.
"Rai!" Tesla agreed.
"Great job as always, Brock." Ember complimented.
"Thanks, Ember." Brock thanked her.
Ember smiled and was about to eat her last rice ball when she saw a Pokémon peeking from a nearby rock, but when and hid back when it saw Ember looking at it.
"What...?" Ember stared at the same spot where the Pokémon decided to hide.
"What's wrong?" Misty asked.
Ember looked at her last remaining rice ball then back to the rock, "I wonder..."
Brock raised a brow, "Wonder about what?"
"Well, I might be wrong but I think there's a Pokémon hiding behind that rock over there." Ember pointed out.
They looked in the direction she directed their attention to and did indeed see a Pokémon peeking from behind the rock.
"It's a Mankey!" Brock said.
Ember blinked a few times and managed to get a good look, "You're right! It is a Mankey!"
Ember remembered when her male counterpart encountered a Mankey. He did the foolish thing by trying to catch it while it was eating. Ember didn't want to make the same mistake.
Ember scanned it.
[Mankey, a Pig Monkey Pokémon of the Fighting type. Known for its superior footwork, it packs a powerful punch.]
Ember saw the Mankey peeking from behind the rock again looking at her last rice ball. Mankey hopped over Brock and looked at Ember for a minute. Ember held out her last rice ball to Mankey who looked at her and then the rice ball. Then it took the rice ball and went back over the rock eating it with a content smile on its face. Ember had to admit that it looked kind of cute as it ate the rice ball.
Suddenly they heard a noise coming from Ember's bag.
"My egg!" Ember gasped.
She went into her bag and the egg was glowing. She put them in her lap as everyone went behind Ember. Surprisingly, the Mankey came over and went behind Ember as well. The egg glowed very brightly and it when it died down, Ember was surprised by the Pokémon that was in her lap: a Dratini!
She quickly took out her phone to scan the two:
[Dratini, the Dragon Pokémon. Dratini sheds its skin as it grows, often doing so while hidden behind large powerful waterfalls.]
Ember smiled at the little dragon, "Hey little one, I'm your trainer."
The baby Dratini looked up at her and then jumped onto her which nearly knocked her over. The little one nuzzled against her cheek as she petted her. Tesla and Lucario appeared in front of the dragon Pokémon.
"She's so adorable." Misty cooed.
"Rai raichu (Definitely cute)." Tesla said.
"(I'm still a big brother.)" Lucario smiled.
At that moment the Mankey appeared in front of them. The baby Pokémon looked up at Mankey who smiled and waved at the baby dragon. The baby Pokémon smiled back the Mankey.
"So you like baby Pokémon, huh?" Ember asked, smiling.
Mankey nodded happily. Ember chuckled at that. Who knew that a Mankey would be a softy around baby Pokémon?
"So Dratini's are really rare Pokémon?" Brock asked.
"Yeah, they are." Ember replied.
"Wow." Brock awed.
"So twerp has a rare Pokémon, huh?" A familiar annoying voice asked.
The gang turned to the voice and saw the Team Rocket trio in front of them. The gang stood up. Tesla and Lucario stood in front of Ember and the baby Pokémon.
"Team Rocket!" Misty yelled.
"To protect the world from devastation."
"To unite all people's within our nation."
"To denounce the evils of truth and love."
"To extended our reaches to the stars above."
"Jessie."
"James."
"Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light."
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
Meowth jumped up, "Meowth! That's right!"
"We should have known that you would show up sooner or later." Brock said.
"Well we chose the sooner." Jessie commented.
"(I wished that you chose later.)" Lucario countered.
"Anyways, hand over that Pokémon!" Jessie demanded.
"No way!" Ember refused.
Mankey jumped in front of the gang, facing Team Rocket.
Ember blinked, "Mankey?"
"Oh you want to fight, huh?" Jessie taunted as she took out a Pokéball, "Come on out, Ekans!"
"You too, Koffing!" James released Koffing.
"Ekans!" Ekans hissed as it stood in front of the trio.
"Koffing!" Koffing stood next to Ekans.
Mankey charged towards Ekans.
"Ekans, use Tail Whip!" Jessie ordered.
"Tackle, Koffing!"
Ekans used its tail to slap Mankey and Koffing used Tackle to bash Mankey who sent it flying and landed in front of the gang.
"Mankey! Are you okay?!" Ember exclaimed.
Mankey shook its head and stood up, facing Team Rocket. Tesla and Lucario jumped to its side.
"(We'll help. We won't let them take this Pokémon.)" Lucario volunteered.
"Raichu rai! (They have to go through us if they want her)!" Tesla growled.
Mankey looked at both Lucario and Tesla. Mankey nodded with determination. Then it glowed, making everyone gasped as Mankey grew bigger. When the light disappeared, it revealed that Mankey had evolved into Primeape!
"Misty, can you take out my phone for me?" Ember asked.
"Sure." Misty took out Ember's phone and scanned the Pokémon.
[Primeape. If you make eye contact with this evolved form of Mankey, it will chase you forever.]
"Chase you forever?!" Misty yelled in horror.
Jessie scoffed, "Ha, this fur ball? That's ridiculous. Now, let's get Lucario and Raichu."
Primeape ran to Jessie and punched her which sent her flying face first into a rock.
Jessie stood up angrily, "How dare you damage my perfection?! Now you'll pay! Ekans! Koffing! Never mind Lucario and Raichu, get that Primeape!" Ekans and Koffing turned to Primeape and went quickly toward it.
"But we came for Raichu and Lucario." Meowth pointed out.
"Team Rocket always put Beauty before duties." James stated and grabbed Meowth before running toward Primeape. Team Rocket and their Pokémon all jumped at Primeape.
"(They're going to lose.)" Lucario commented.
"Rai (definitely)." Tesla agreed.
"They won't have a chance." Ember added with a dry expression.
Primeape, un surprisingly, won fighting Team Rocket. Ember knew that Primeape would easily win.
"Okay, let's send Team Rocket flying. Primeape, move out of the way!" Ember ordered.
Primeape moved out of the way.
"Tesla, Thunder! Lucario, Aura Sphere!" Ashlyn ordered.
Tesla and Lucario launched their attacks and they hit Team Rocket, sending them flying into the sky.
"I can't believe that we were beaten so easily by a Primeape!" Jessie growled.
"It was obviously that we would." James sighed.
"So true." Meowth agreed.
"LOOKS LIKE TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" Team Rocket shouted as they disappeared into the sky.
"Well done you guys." Ember complimented them.
The three Pokémon smiled. Then Primeape walked up to Ember and pointed at her Pokéballs.
"Huh? You want to come with me?" Ember pointed at herself. Primeape nodded happily. Ember smiled and held out a Pokéball, "Welcome to the team, Primeape."
Primeape smiled as it got sucked into the Pokéball. Ember smiled at the Pokéball before it disappeared.
"Looks like you got another fighter to your team." Brock commented.
"Yup. I'm sure that he's going to be a great brother to all of the Pokémon, just like Lucario." Ember stated.
Lucario nodded, "(It would be great to have someone else to help us take care of the baby Pokémon.)"
Tesla nodded. "Rai."
After sending Pidgeot to the corral and getting Dratini into its Pokéballs, the gang headed towards Celadon city.
