After finishing off the Preliminary rounds, Ember, Prof. Oak, her friends and family were having dinner at a restaurant.
"I have to say Ember, you did great during the preliminary rounds." Misty complimented.
"You were awesome, Ember." Brock added.
"Yeah, and its all thanks to my Pokémon. I wouldn't have gotten this far without them." Ember stated.
"You and your Pokémon have come a very long way Ember," Prof. Oak said, "Not only have you and your Pokémon become strong, but your bonds has too."
Delia smiled, "I am very proud of you my dear."
"Too bad that Gary didn't make it passed the preliminary rounds." Brock said.
"Yes," Prof Oak sighed, "But the thing is with Gary is that, he's a good trainer but he got over confident, and that's why he lost in the fourth preliminary battle. So Ember my dear Pallet Town is now giving cheers to you only."
Ember smiled; she felt more proud than ever. She was glad to have such a great family and friends with her.
After dinner, Ember and the gang met up with a trainer named Ritchie who had a Pikachu, nicknamed Sparky. They became great friends as they happily chatted with him. But Ember knew that she would be going against him tomorrow. Whether they win or not, Ritchie would still be her friend.
It was the next day, Ember and Ritchie were at the reception desk so that they could find out who their opponent is for the next round. They did a random draw, by fishing for a random Magikarp with a number on it. If someone else draws the same number, then that person becomes your next opponent. Ritchie did the same...to everyone's surprise (except Ember) the next person Ember would be going up against was...Ritchie.
Ritchie and Ember give each other slightly surprised, yet determined looks.
"Well Ember, as we're friends, let's promise to make this our best battle that we've ever had." Ritchie held his hand out.
"Deal," Ember took his hand and shook it, "See you on the battlefield, Ritchie."
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are now down to the quarterfinals for this year's league! Let's introduce the two who will be facing against each other! In the green corner is Ember Ketchum of Pallet Town!"
The crowd cheered loudly for her.
"And in the red corner is Ritchie of Frodomar City!"
The crowd cheered once more.
"Just because we're friends Ritchie, doesn't mean that I'm going to go easy on you!" Ember declared.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Ritchie grinned.
"Let the battle begin!"
"Come on out, Happy!" Ritchie sent out his Butterfree, nicknamed Happy, to battle.
"Ignado, you're on!" Ember sent out her Alolan Marowak to battle.
"Wak!" Ignado appeares on the field.
Ritchie looked surprised at seeing her Alolan Marowak. He didn't expect her to have one.
"Butterfree versus Marowak battle...begin!"
"Happy, use Sleep Powder!" Ritchie ordered.
Happy flapped his wings and blue powder came out and headed towards Ignado.
"Ignado, Flamethrower!" Ember countered.
Ignado spun his bone around which summoned his flames which blew away the sleep powder.
"Will-O-Wisp!"
Ignado spun his bone, summoning balls of blue fire and shot them towards Happy who got hit by them. The move was really effective to the Bug type who got burned and fainted.
"Butterfree is unable to battle! Marowak wins!" The referee announced.
"Way to go, Ignado!" Ember cheered and Ignado smiled at his trainer.
Ritchie returned Happy, "You did good, Happy," Then he released his next Pokémon, "Go Zippo!"
"Char!" Zippo the Charmander appeared on the field.
"Charmander versus Marowak battle...begin!"
"Zippo, use Flamethrower!" Ritchie ordered.
"Shadow Ball." Ember countered.
Zippo fired a Flamethrower at Ignado who countered it with a Shadow Ball. Both attacks collided against each other.
"Now Swift."
Ignado summoned a ray of stars and they rained down at Zippo who was trying to dodge them. But a few managed to hit him.
"Quick use Rock Tomb!" Ritchie commanded.
Zippo stomped his foot on the ground, summoning rocks from the ground, destroying most of the stars, creating smoke around it.
"Use Ice Beam!"
Ignado summoned a ball of ice and shot of beam at Charmander, who soon was incased in ice.
"Zippo!" Ritchie cried out.
"Now Iron Head!" Ember ordered.
A jagged shiny pattern appeared on Ignado's forehead and he charged at the frozen Charmander with his head. Once Ingado rammed into Zippo, breaking him out of the ice. Then Zippo fainted from the effective ice attack and iron head.
"Charmander is unable to battle! Marowak wins!" The referee called.
"Great job, Ignado." Ember complimented.
Ignado smiled as he rubbed the back of his head.
Ritchie returned Zippo, "You did your best, Zippo." Then he let out his next Pokémon, "Go, Sniper!"
"Spearow!" Sniper the Spearow appeared on the field.
"Take some rest, Ignado." Ember returned her Alolan Marowak and sent out her next Pokémon, "Go Pidgeot!"
"Pidgeot!" Pidgeot appeared on the field.
"Spearow versus Pidgeot battle...begin!"
"Sniper, use Quick Attack!" Ritchie ordered.
"Spear!" Sniper flew straight towards Pidgeot.
"Pidgeot, dodge and use Air Slash!" Pidgeot dodged Sniper's attack and her wings glowed. She pushed her wings forward and crescent shaped blades headed towards Sniper and soon hit him which made him cry out in pain.
"Sniper!" Ritchie called out, "Are you okay?"
"Spearow!" Spearow nodded.
"Alright, then use Peck!" Sniper's beak glowed and headed straight towards Pidgeot.
"Protect and then Swift!" Pidgeot projected a green colored barrier in front of herself which Sniper bounced off. Then she summoned a bunch of stars that hit Sniper which he cried out in pain once more.
"Now Brave Bird!" Pidgeot flew up in the air and shot back towards Sniper, ramming him in the stomach and sending him falling to the ground, creating a dust cloud.
"Sniper!" Ritchie called out.
The dust cloud faded away to reveal a fainted Sniper with swirling eyes.
"Spearow is unable to battle. The victory goes to Pidgeot!"
"Good job, Pidgeot." Ember complimented.
"Pidgeot!" Pidgeot smiled.
Ritchie returned Sniper, "You did your best, Sniper," Then he let out his next Pokémon, "Go Eve!"
"Eevui!" Eve the Eevee appeared on the field.
"Pidgeot return." She returned her bird Pokemon and let out her next Pokémon, "Eevee!"
"Evui!" Ember's Eevee appeared on the field.
"Eevee versus Eevee battle...begin!"
"Eve, use Tackle!" Ritchie ordered.
Eve headed straight towards Eevee.
"Eevee, Double Team!" Eevee quickly made copies of herself. Eevee hit one of the copies, "Now Tackle!"
Eevee slammed into Eve which sent Eve tumbling across the field.
"Eve, you okay?" Ritchie called out.
"Evui!" Eve nodded.
"Okay then, use Swift!" Ritchie ordered.
"Eevee, use Swift as well!" Ember countered.
Both Eevee summoned stars from their tails and swung them forward. Both attacks clashed, causing smoke on the field. Ember decided to take advantage of the smoke.
"Eevee, use Take Down and Double-Edge!" Eevee ran into the smoke and rammed into Eve.
"Eevuuii!" Eve cried out in pain as she was sent tumbling. Once she stopped, she weakly tried to stand up.
"Shadow Ball!" Eevee shot her attack towards Eve. The attack hit the Normal type Pokémon, causing smoke.
When the smoke disappeared, it showed Eve with swirling eyes which meant that she fainted.
"Eevee is unable to battle! The victory goes to Eevee!"
"Alright Eevee!" Ember cheered.
"Eevui!" Eevee smiled as she jumped into Ember's arms. She petted the Normal type's head.
"Eve, return." Ritchie returned Eve to her Pokeball, "You did your best, Eve." Then he took out his next Pokémon, "Go Machop!"
"Machop!" Machop appeared on the field.
Ember returned Eevee, "You did good, Eevee. Get some rest." Then she let out her next Pokemon, "Go Alakazam!"
"Kazam!" Alakazam appeared on the field.
"Machop versus Alakazam battle...begin!"
"Machop, use Bulk Up and then Bullet Punch!" Ritchie commanded.
"Alakazam, use Protect!" Ember countered.
Alakazam projected a green barrier in front of himself. Machop's Bullet Punch bounced off the barrier, "Disable and Confusion!"
Alakazam's eyes glowed blue and Machop was outlined in blue. Once the glow was gone, Machop looked all around itself in confusion.
"Now Psybeam!"
Alakazam places his two spoons together and a rainbow colored energy shot out and hit Machop who cried out in pain.
"Machop!" Ritchie called out, "Are you okay?!"
"M-Machop." Machop got to his feet with determination.
"Alright then, Machop, use Mega Punch!" Ritchie ordered.
Machop's right fist was encased in orange colored energy as he ran towards Alakazam.
"Alakazam, Thunder Punch to block it!" Electricity gathered onto Alakazam's left fist.
Both fists slammed into each other and both skidded back from the power of them.
"Machop, use Focus Energy!" Ritchie ordered.
"Alazakam, Light Screen and then Future Sight." Ember countered.
Alakazam projected a light green colored screen in front of himself. Then his eyes glowed blue for a few seconds.
"Use Rock Tomb!" Ritchie commanded.
Machop stomped on the ground, causing boulders to appear out of the ground and surround Alakazam.
"Quick, Teleport and use Drain Punch!" Ember countered.
Alakazam teleported out of the rock tomb attack and appeared right in front of Machop and punched Machop under the chin, sending him up in the air. Then the Future Sight hit Machop.
"Machop!" Ritchie cried out.
Machop fell to the ground, causing a dust cloud. When the dust cleared, it showed Machop with swirling eyes which meant that he fainted.
"Machop is unable to battle. The victory goes to Alakazam!"
"Way to go, Alakazam!" Ember smiled.
"Kazam." Alakazam smiled.
Ritchie returned Machop, "Well done, Machop. Get some rest." Then he turned to his Pikachu, "Sparky, you're up."
Sparky nodded, "Pikapi!"
"Take some rest, Alakazam." Ember returned her Psychic type and sent out her next Pokémon, "Let's go, Levina!"
Both Pikachu's appeared on the field.
"Pikachu versus Pikachu battle...begin!"
"Levina, use Attract." Ember ordered.
Levina winked at Sparky, causing multiple pink hearts to fly and surround him. The hearts then sank into him, causing him to fall in love with Levina. Sparky's eyes were now heart-shaped.
"Oh no! Sparky snap out it!" Ritchie cried out.
But Sparky was too infatuated with Levina. So he didn't hear his trainer's words.
"Levina, use Quick Attack and then Iron Tail!" Ember ordered.
Levina's glowed a metallic color and then she sped towards the love-struck Sparky and slammed her tail against Sparky which sent him flying across the field.
"Electro Ball!"
Levina's body was surrounded in yellow electricity and multiple yellow sparks came off Levina's body. All the electricity then condensed at Levina's tail and formed into an orange-yellow orb of electricity with sparks of yellow electricity coming off it. Levina then jumped into the air and flung the orb at Sparky.
"Sparky, dodge!" Ritchie called out.
However, Sparky was still affected by Attract. The orb of electricity hit Sparky, which somehow broke him out of Attract. However he was still weak from Levina's earlier attacks. He weakly stood up in front of Levina.
"Sparky, use Thunderbolt!" Ritchie ordered.
Sparky let out his most powerful thunderbolt.
"Lightning Rod!" Ember countered.
Levina held her tail up and all of Sparky's electricity gathered in her tail and soon disappeared.
"Now use Thunder Punch!"
Levina's fist was surrounded by yellow sparks, which grow into a ball of electrical energy. The electric type then punched Sparky who soon fainted.
"Pikachu is unable to battle! Pikachu wins!" The referee called out, "The victory goes to Ember Ketchum of Pallet Town!"
The crowd cheered loudly.
Levina ran all the way to Ember and jumped into her arms, "Well done, Levina."
"Pikapi." Levina smiled.
"And there you go ladies and gentlemen! Ember Ketchum will be moving onto the next round!"
The crowd cheered even louder.
After their battle, both trainers went to the Pokémon Center to heal their Pokémon.
"Hey, congrats on winning, Ember." Ritchie congratulated Ember.
Ember smiled, "Thanks, Ritchie."
"You both did great," Prof. Oak said, "You should be proud, Ritchie."
Ritchie rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, "Thanks, Prof. Oak. It's an honor to hear that from a famous professor." Then he looked to Ember, "I wish you the best of luck with the other matches, Ember." He said.
Ember smiled and nodded.
Ember's second match of the day was now here. She would be going against a trainer named Charlotte Addison. The girl had dirty blonde hair and green eyes. She wore a red tank top and a pair of blue shorts and sneakers. Ember had to admit that she was somewhat nervous, but she knew that she could beat Charlotte.
"Here we are in the second round for the quarter finals for today. Let's introduce the two who will be facing against each other! In the red corner is Charlotte Addison from Fuchsia City."
The crowd cheered for Charlotte.
"And in the green corner is Ember Ketchum from Pallet Town who hasn't lost a single match!"
The crowd cheered even louder for Ember.
"Let the battle begin!"
"Mankey, I choose you!" Charlotte released her first Pokémon.
"Mankey!" Mankey appeared on the field.
"Clefable, let's go!" Ember let out her first Pokémon.
"Clefable!" Clefable appeared on the field
"Mankey versus Clefable battle...begin!"
"Mankey, use Fury Swipes!" Charlotte ordered.
Mankey's hands glowed a white color and he ran towards Clefable.
"Clefable, Light Screen!" Ember countered.
Clefable projected a green colored screen in front of her and Mankey's attack bounced off of it.
"Now Zen Headbutt!"
Clefable's forehead glowed white and she rammed into Mankey who cried out in pain from the attack and was sent tumbling.
"Mankey!" Charlotte cried out, "Are you okay?!"
"Mankey." Mankey managed to stand up.
"Alright then, use Iron Tail!" Mankey's tail glowed a metallic color and he ran towards Clefable.
"Clefable, Fire Punch!" Ember countered.
Clefable's right fist was encased in flames and the two attacks slammed into each other. The two skidded away from each other.
"Mankey, Karate Chop!" Mankey ran towards Clefable again.
"Clefable, Thunderbolt!" Clefable summoned electricity and launched it towards Mankey who was instantly zapped by the electrical attack which caused him to slightly wobble.
"Now Moonblast!" Clefable raised her hands in the air and a light pink orb was forming between them, growing larger and larger, she tossed the sparkling orb towards the Pig Pokémon. Mankey cried out in pain at the attack as the attack caused a dirt cloud. When it died down, it showed Mankey with swirling eyes, which meant that he fainted.
"Mankey is unable to battle. The victory goes to Clefable!"
"Well done, Clefable." Ember complimented the Fairy Pokémon.
"Clefable." Clefable smiled.
Charlotte returned Mankey, "You tried, Mankey." Then she called out her second Pokémon. "Poliwhirl, I choose you!"
"Poliwhirl." Poliwhirl appeared on the field.
Ember returned Clefable back into her Pokeball and she let out her second Pokémon, "Come on out, Leafeon!"
"Leafeon." Leafeon appeared on the field.
"Poliwhirl versus Leafeon battle...begin!"
"Poliwhirl, Water Gun!" Charlotte ordered.
Poliwhirl shot out a beam of water at Leafeon.
"Leafeon, use Protect." Ember countered.
Leafeon projected a green colored barrier in front of herself. Poliwhirl's water attack bounced off of the barrier.
"Now Energy Ball!" Leafeon formed a green colored ball in front of her mouth and released it which hit Poliwhirl and made him cry out in pain.
"Poliwhirl! Are you okay?!" Charlotte exclaimed.
"Poliwhirl." Poliwhirl winced as he stood up.
"Okay then, use Mega Punch!" Charlotte commanded.
"Dodge and then use Double-Kick." Ember countered.
Leafeon dodged Poliwhirl's attack and then double kicked Poliwhirl in the face.
"Now Magical Leaf!" Leafeon pulls her head back, then brings it forward. Her ears then lifted up and they released glowing light green leaves from her ears.
The attack slammed into Poliwhirl, who skidded back by the attack.
"Sunny Day!" Leafeon launched a white colored orb into the sky which made the sky more sunny, "Now Solar Beam!"
Leafeon gathered an orb of light in front of her mouth and then blasted a beam towards Poliwhirl.
"Quick Poliwhirl, Hydro Pump!" Poliwhirl's stomach glowed light purple and it released a powerful stream of water from in the middle of it.
The two attacks slammed into each other. One trying to overpower the other. But Leafeon's Solar Beam pushed past Poliwhirl's Hydro Pump and rammed into Poliwhirl, crying out in pain. He weakly stood up and then collapsed.
"Poliwhirl is unable to battle. The victory goes to Leafeon!"
"Alright Leafeon!" Ember cheered.
"Leafeon." Leafeon smiled.
Charlotte returned Poliwhirl, "You did your best, Poliwhirl." Then she let out her next Pokemon, "Tangela, I choose you!"
"Tangela!" Tangela appeared on the field.
Ember returned Leafeon to her Pokeball and then let out her next Pokemon, "Come on out, Nidoqueen!"
"Nido." Nidoqueen appeared on the field.
"Tangela versus Nidoqueen battle...begin!"
"Nidoqueen, Flamethrower!" Ember ordered.
Flames burst from Nidoqueen's mouth and instantly hit Tangela. The Vine Pokemon cried out in pain. When the flames died down, Tangela was slightly wobbly.
"Tangela, use Vine Whip!" Charlotte commanded.
Tangela summoned his vines and wrapped them around Nidoqueen.
"Now Razor Leaf!"
Tangela summoned a bunch of leaves that flew straight towards Nidoqueen.
"Nidoqueen, Thunderbolt!" Ember countered.
Nidoqueen let out an electrical attack that zapped Tangela. The Vine Pokémon cried out in pain as its vines let go of Nidoqueen and then passed out.
"Tangela is unable to battle. The victory goes to Nidoqueen!"
"Great job, Nidoqueen!" Ember called out.
"Nido." Nidoqueen smiled.
Charlotte returned Tangela and then let out her next Pokemon, "Go Nidoking!"
Ember returned Nidoqueen to her Pokeball and let out her next Pokemon, "Let's go, Dragonite!"
"Roar!" Dragonite appeared on the field.
"Nidoking versus Dragonite battle...begin!"
"Dragonite, use Icy Wind!" Dragonite blew out a cold wind from her mouth.
Nidoking shivered in the cold.
"Now Ice Beam!" Dragonite formed a white colored ball in front of her mouth and a beam shot out and froze Nidoking.
"Nidoking!" Charlotte called out in panic.
"Steel Wing and then Aqua Tail!" Ember ordered.
Dragonite's wings glowed a metallic color and then she flew towards Nidoking, slamming into him and breaking him out of the ice. Then she stuck her tail out and a spiral of water spun around it. She slammed her tail into Nidoking's stomach which caused him to grunt and slid backwards.
"Nido!" Nidoking grunted.
"Quick Nidoking, use Poison Sting!" Charlotte ordered.
Nidoking launched his attack and it headed straight to Dragonite.
"Dodge, Dragonite!" Ember countered.
Dragonite jumped and flew into the air.
"Now Hydro Pump!" Dragonite released a powerful stream of water from her mouth and it slammed into Nidoking's belly who grunted at the attack.
"Poison Jab, Nidoking!" Nidoking's right first glowed purple and ran towards Dragonite.
"Light Screen and then Ice Punch!" Dragonite projected a light green colored screen in front of her which blocked Nidoking's Poison Jab attack. Then Dragonite's right first was coated with ice and she punched Nidoking in the gut and the Poison Ground type was soon encased in ice.
"Nidoking!" Charlotte called out in panic.
"Now Iron Tail!" Ember shouted.
Dragonite's tail glowed a metallic color and she slammed it into Nidoking, shattering the ice, and sent him tumbling, causing a dust cloud. When the cloud disappeared, it showed Nidoking with swirls in his eyes which meant that he fainted.
"Nidoking is unable to battle! The victory goes to Dragonite!"
"Way to go, Dragonite!" Ember cheered.
Dragonite blushed as she rubbed the back of her head.
Charlotte returned Nidoking, "You did your best, Nidoking." Then she let out her next Pokémon, "Go Venusaur!"
"Saur!" Venusaur appeared on the field.
Ashlyn returned Dragonite and let out her next Pokemon, "Let's go, Arcanine!"
Arcanine howled when he appeared on the field.
"Venusaur versus Arcanine battle...begin!"
"Arcanine, Flamethrower!" Arcanine blew a stream of flames from her mouth and Venusaur was hit by the flames which made him cry out in pain.
"Venusaur!" Charlotte called out.
The flames soon disappeared and Venusaur stood still with a lot of burns on him. He flinched at his injuries.
"Venusaur, use Sunny Day!" Charlotte ordered.
Venusaur launched his attack into the sky and the sun was even brighter than before.
"Now use Solar Beam!"
"Arcanine, dodge and use Extreme Speed and Fire Fang!" Ember countered.
Arcanine dodged the attack and headed straight towards Venusaur as flames appeared on Arcanine's fangs. Then Arcanine bit down on Venusaur's arm and Venusaur cried out in pain as it was encased in flames.
"Venusaur!" Charlotte cried out.
Arcanine let go of Venusaur and jumped away. When the flames went out, Venusaur was burned brown and collapsed on his stomach with swirling eyes.
"Venusaur is unable to battle! The victory goes to Arcanine!"
"Yay Arcanine!" Ember shouted as Arcanine howled in victory.
Charlotte returned her Venusaur, "You tried, Venusaur. Get some rest." Then she let out her next Pokémon, "Marowak!"
"Marowak!" Marowak appeared on the field.
Ember returned Arcanine and let out her next Pokémon, "Go Blastoise!"
"Blastoise! (Let's do this!)" Blastoise appeared on the field.
"Marowak versus Blastoise battle...begin!"
"Marowak, use Bonemerang!" Charlotte ordered.
Marowak threw his bone towards Blastoise.
"Blastoise, Withdraw!" Ember countered.
Blastoise withdrew into his head, arms, and legs into his shell which caused Marowak's Bone to bounce off the shell.
"Now Flash Cannon!" Blastoise's cannons fired a metallic colored energy at Marowak.
"Dodge it Marowak!" Marowak quickly dodged the attack.
"Rain Dance!" Blastoise came out of his shell and summoned rain clouds. Rain began to pour down onto the field. Marowak winced as the rain dripped onto its skin.
"Whirlpool!" Blastoise summoned a whirlpool of water above his head and tossed it towards Marowak.
"Marowak dodge it!" Charlotte called out.
However, Marowak couldn't dodge in time because of the pain that was caused by the rain. It was soon sucked into the whirlpool and was going in circles inside the whirlpool.
"Ice Beam!" Blastoise summoned an orb of white energy in front of his mouth and shot it towards the whirlpool that Marowak was stuck in. Soon enough, Marowak was encased in the ice whirlpool.
"Hydro Pump!" Two powerful shots of water blasted out of Blastoise's cannons and hit The frozen Whirlpool And the ice broke apart, Marowak into air, tumbling across the field, Causing a dust cloud. When the dust showed Marowak with swirling eyes, It was unconscious.
"Marowak is unable to battle! Blastoise wins!" The referee announced, "The victory goes to Ember Ketchum of Pallet Town!"
"Alright Blastoise!" Ember cheered.
"Blastoise!" Blastoise smiled.
"And there you go ladies and gentlemen! Another great victory for Ember Ketchum! She'll be going onto the next round!"
The crowd cheered loudly for Ember.
And so that ended the first day of the Indigo League Finals. Ember's next two battles will happen tomorrow.
