AN: This is my very first story. I'm not sure if I'll continue writing it but I would appreciate reviews, for they would likely motivate me.
Italics = Parseltongue
Harry Potter awoke to the sound of a loud bang. Jumping awake, he frantically reached for his glasses. When he looked up he thought about how much he hated his life. He was only eight years old and he already wanted to run away from his relatives, the Dursleys. They never let him eat, even when he had done everything they asked from him. He had to weed the garden, make them breakfast, clean the house, and even check the mail for them.
When he was old enough to learn how to cook his Aunt made him make breakfast for his entire family. Because Harry didn't have a clue of how to make breakfast he burn the bacon, and his Aunt hit him with the frying pan and had his Uncle throw him into the cupboard under the stairs for the next week with only a few pieces of burnt toast and water to eat and drink.
Harry didn't know his name until he went to school. Until then he thought his name was freak or boy, because it was the only thing his relatives called him.
Harry had also notices some strange things had started to happen around him. One time when he was really upset with his teacher her hair had turned blue. Another time when he was weeding the garden a snake came up to him and he could understand it. He remembered the conversation vividly.
*FLASHBACK*
Harry was sitting in the garden pulling weeds from the ground when he suddenly heard a faint grumbling.
Harry swung around startled by the sound. He looked around but saw no one around that could be talking. He looked back down to start weeding again and nearly jumped out of his skin. Sitting directly in front of him was a garden snake. It looked at him with yellow eyes filled with curiosity.
Harry looked at the snake and said,"Hello, are you looking for something to eat?"
The snake had the equivalent of a shocked look before it responded, "You are a speaker?"
Harry looked confused and responded, "Yes of course I am, do you not talk to many people?"
The snake hissed out what sounded like a laugh and said," No hatchling, I have not spoken to a speaker before. You are in fact not even speaking English. You are speaking the language of snakes, it is called parseltongue. Very few wizards have the ability to talk to snake."
Harry looked confused as he tried to understand that he want talking English when something hit him. The snake had said wizards, implying he was a wizard, which meant magic was real. He went to ask the snake but his Aunt came out and the snake had to leave so that the snake wouldn't be killed.
*FLASHBACK END*
Harry stopped reminiscing and got up to go make his relative breakfast. He quickly rushed to the bathroom and got ready for the day, dressing in Dudleys old clothes that hung off him due to them being at least ten sizes too big.
Harry then quickly made breakfast for the Dursleys and thought about trying to steal a piece, but remembered the last time he did that he didn't get any food for the entire week. After he made the food he set the table and started to get ready to clean the house before he heard the sound of the mail slot opening. Knowing that his relatives would be up at any moment he rushed to grab the mail. When he went to get the mail he saw something that shocked him to his core.
He had gotten mail. He never got mail because his cousin would scare anyone who wanted to be his friend. He quickly stuffed it in his pocket because he knew his relatives would take it if they saw it they would take it from him. As he sorted through the rest of the mail he saw some bills and mail for his Aunt. He then placed the mail on the table and then went to do his chores.
Harry spent the entire time he was doing his chores thinking about what was in the letter he received. He was almost done with his chores when he started to imagine what was in the letter. He thought about what the snake had said about wizards. He thought about how it could be a letter from wizards and he would be able to get away from his relatives and never go back. He imagined a world with his parents and having a life full of love. Where he didn't have to try to appease people who were impossible to appease.
Harry finally finished cleaning the house and got ready to make dinner. He then started to make dinner for to Dursleys. He made them mashed potatoes, steak, and peas. His relatives came downstairs and he was sent to his cupboard with only a cup of water and some peas. When he got to his cupboard he pulled out the letter and placed it underneath him as he sat down. He planned on waiting for his relatives to go to bed before he opened it just in case they checked on him for the first time ever.
After waiting for roughly an hour, in which he continued to imagine he what was in the letter, he heard his relatives finally go upstairs for the night. He waited a little while longer just to be sure they were in bed and sleeping before he got up and pulled the letter out from under him. He looked at it and read on the front of it."To: Harry Potter From: Gringotts Bank."
He reached to open it and started to open it. He tore the letter open and pulled out the paper that was inside. It felt more heavy duty than normal paper, almost like parchment. As he opened it his eyes opened in shock as he read what was inside.
