Hello there dear reader! Just some important things I'd like to mention before you start reading so you hopefully aren't disappointed at my writing and such. Anyways this is Re:zero but just a bit different, as in Subaru mainly. He's just a bit MORE (I am so stupid, when I first uploaded this it said less for some reason, mainly because I'm dumb) unforgiving and realistic in situations. I am an anime only fan and such wont be continuing this past season 2 until season 3 is fully released. This is also my first ever work of fiction so please do give me criticism. Again this is just Rezero but just a bit different, if you're looking for something with a major difference like Re:zero hour where Satella herself brings Subaru back to the start or Re: Melancholy where he has the authority of Melancholy (Go check both of em out they're cool) this isn't that type of story. Anywho here begins my poor attempt at a fanfiction. Oh and if some characters seem out of character im really sorry.

The sound of a typical gas station door opening and the bell ringing rung throughout the store as Subaru walked into store. he got a small plastic bag and grabbed some things, mainly cup noodles and two bags of chips. He walked over to the section of the store where they had mangas and other readible items. He muttered something probably unimportant to anyone else while he flipped though the pages of the manga, glancing at a couple of people as they walked outside.

he made his way to the register and paid the man behind the counter, not really paying attention to what he said as he handed him some bills and grabbed his change before walking out of the store, he looked at the contents of his bag, two bags of chips and a cup noodle. Wait he forgot someting what was it?

He turned around to enter the store again, maybe if he went inside and looked around he'd see what he needed and remember that he needed it. But as he entered the store and the noise of the doors opening and chiming set off he was blinded by a very sudden bright flash of light as he entered. He should really get his eyes checked out, maybe his mom was right.

But as he opened his eyes again he would see that he was standing infront of a water fountain, with weird half human half animal people walking around. "What the hell" he muttered to himself holding his plastic bag. Everything was medieval-y and just straight up nothing like real life. Did he get isakei-d to a new world? His eyes widened in sudden realization as he realized the fact that he had no identity here. His existence is a secret to everything and anyone... But is that really a bad thing?

As he walked throughout this weird town he would notice a fruit stand, it had apples bananas your typical common superstore fruit. But he couldn't read the signs? Its shocking really, they speak the same langague but they dont write it. The fruit salesman grabbed an apple and held it in front of Subaru's face with an annoyed look.

"you gonna buy anything kid? Or are you just gonna stare at them for another hour?"

"Oh, no no im just browsing. Unfortunately I'm broke beyond compare." Said subaru with a small chuckle, being cut off by the fruit salesmen.

"Like I thought, get out of here broke kid. If you're not buying any appa's or other fruits you can get the hell outta here!" shouted the salesmen and Subaru quickly got the hell out of there.

"appa's?"

He Muttered to himself as he walked, so they also don't speak the same language. Or at the very least some words are different for whatever reasons. He had entered a bar so he could ask some questions of where he was exactly but the people inside were all half humans, seems like this was half human only. As he turned around to leave some giant lizard guy walked inside and shoved Subaru out with surprising force. Subaru stumbled outside before falling over the edge of the of the railing and into water.

A couple minutes later he was sitting on a step inside an alleyway, his soaked jacket laying on a wooden box. Subaru was hunched over, holding his bag of useless supplies which would be depleted by the end of the first day.

"What the hell is my luck, I get summoned to a new world with nothing to defend myself with and the only supplies I have is dried food and my phone that doesn't even have cell service in this world. Im fucked! I mean what the hell new world why'd you damn bring me here when im just as useless as I was in the real world?! The fuck am I gonna do?! I dont even have an identity in this god forbidden place!"

He shouted at the wall annoyed, before sighing and reaching into his bag to grab that enticing bag of chips, he hadn't eaten for the entire time he was here.

"You've got a couple screws loose dont ya weirdo?"

Said someone In front of the alleyway. They were some brown haired kid with some lanky emo guy and a rather large third guy. The trio of people looked rather shady and the way that short kid spoke to him gave him bad vibes.

"Seeing as you're not within your right mind I'll let you have it the easy way" Spoke the large guy, holding a hand out to Subaru "Just fork up whatever ya got and we'll be on our way, no need to fight a mentally disabled person."

"Im not insane fat ass. Piss off all I've got is dried food and the clothes on my back. Im more broke then the three of you combined."

The trio of Shortie, Lanky and Ugly laughed at Subaru, yeah he definitely wasn't getting out of this ordeal unscathed. He isn't weak, I mean he did promise to work out at least once daily. But he also hasn't hurt anyone before so he was definitely at a disadvantage, a major disadvantage. Seeing as he had basically just screwed himself over by pissing off Shortie, Lanky and Ugly his only real way of getting out of this unscratched was running away. But he'd still have to do something to get past them.

"Someone's eager to get their head lopped off huh? Fine, last chance for your dumbass self to get out of this peacefully."

Said Ugly again, but Subaru had other plans. He got up from the steps, but then something odd had happened. A small orange haired girl came running into the alleyway shouting "Out of the way! Out of the way!" She stopped for a second looking at the odd situation, before jumping on the wall and then up to the ceiling of the building behind Subaru and away. The four stared in a shock as she left, that was just plain selfish but oh well.

Subaru then finally got up, grabbing his jacket and wrapping it around his arm before running to the group and punching Lanky in the side of his face knocking him into the wall of the alleyway before continuing to run before the two to his sides would take action. As he got to the end of the alleyway and turned to the right he would run face first into someone. Both of the two would fall down to the ground, but Subaru couldn't waste time. He quickly got up grabbed the stranger by the wrist and pulled them up to their feet.

"Im really really really sorry about that but I can't stay to apologize longer I need to go befor-"

He was cut off by some weird small floating cat with a purse appearing out of no where straight in front of his face

"Who do you think you are running into my daughter like that and then just trying to get away?"

"Wha-"

Subaru stared dumbfounded at this thing in front of him, but before he could remember to start running he was punched in the back of his head knocking him face first into the ground by Ugly, the two hadn't given up ya know. They just started kicking the utter shit out of Subaru right in front of me the stranger and their floating cat father thing. But before the two could do anymore damage than they had already done they would swiftly be knocked out by two ice crystals shooting into their heads.

An unknown amount of time later Subaru woke up on some soft object. Guess that was some stupid weird fever dream huh? He got up from his pillow, sitting up on his rather rock hard bed and rubbing his eyes.

"Sleep good?"

Said a weird voice, wait who the hell was in his room?! As he turned to look he saw some furry cat humanoid creature. He got up on his legs and took a couple steps back shocked and surprised. So that wasn't some horrible fever dream?!

" FURSUITS EXIST IN THIS WOULD BUT NOT ELECTRICITY?!?!??"

Screamed Subaru looking at the now shrunken down and floating cat thing.. Wait how the hell is it so small now?! How'd it even get that big in the first place?! Subaru calmed down in a matter of seconds and just looked at the floating feline and the silver haired girl which was somehow the feline's duaghter. Wait silver hair? Does that mean hair dye exists in this world too? But Subaru couldnt help but look at the woman, they were really friggin cute and their outfit was adorable.

"Is something the matter? Are my clothes dirty?"

"Hey stop looking at my daughter with your evil eyes!"

Said the silver haired girl while the floating feline chimed in. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all y'know?

"Oh uh, sorry for staring you just look really cu-cool, you look really cool."

Said subaru as he watched the silver haired girl get up from the ground and point their finger at him.

"No point in delaying myself further, let's get on to the questions. Did you see an orange haired girl holding an insignia with a red ruby gem in the middle of it run into this alleyway?"

"Orange haired girl? Yeah, but they just jumped on the ceiling up there and continued running. Didn't see an insignia on them though. Why are you asking anyway?"

"That insignia she has is mine and she stole it, it's very important to me so that's why I was chasing after her."

"Oh, well since you did save my life and all that I guess I am in debt to you. How about I make up that debt by helping you find where that girl ran off to?

"There is no need, you have answered my questions and therefore you no longer have a debt for me to pay off."

"You sure Lia? I don't sense any malice coming off from him. It could always be useful to have someone to get between you and danger that isn't me."

"Hey that's not nice!" chimed in Subaru, the floating cat just sticking out his tongue at him.

"There still is no need Puck, I am sure I am able to handle this on my own."

said The girl as she walked out of the alleyway, her floating cat dad following in suit. guess her name is Lia huh? Well he's still going to help her even if she thinks she can do it on her own. So he grabbed his now dry jacket that was placed on the ground and ran after her getting in front of her.

"Well I don't care if I don't owe you any help, I'll still help you. One good deed per day! Helping this silver haired maiden just happens to be the good deed for me today!"

"A good deed per day? Well alright then, if you still wish to help even though... Nevermind, come on we don't have much time!'

Said the ever so cute silver haired Lia as she started walking quickly, "He-Hey! You gotta wait for me too!" Shouted Subaru caught by surprise at the sprinting Girl. But he followed in pursuit, first quest of the world is help out Lia with her insignia, nice!

Subaru and Lia were on a bridge over a small river. Subaru was sitting on the railing hunched over. Sighing still holding his bag of random supplies.

"We've been asking around for an hour and nothing's happened!"

Complained Subaru as he looked at the silver haired girl again with a smile. She really was super cute. But she had a look of gloom on her face as she faced Subaru with a small frown.

"I've got something to tell you..."

"Hm? Yeah go ahead I'm all ears."

"I'm actually a half elf. I'll completely understand if you want to stay away from me so don't feel guilty when you leave..."

"Leave? Whaddya talking about why would I leave? Also that explains why you look so cute! Elves were always cute in those stories!"

Said Subaru reminiscing over the various fantasy mangas and books he read while still on earth. But as he got on the ground and off the railing and looked at Lia she was crouched down, her back facing him. What? Did he say something wrong? Oh no what if he did say something wrong?! But soon that floating cat thing popped into existence before him, his name was Puck right? Or at least that's what Lia called him.

"Whaddya doing?"

He asked as he watched the floating cat zoom into his face with a punch. Wow so he really must've pissed them off somehow huh?

"Woah I'm sorry if I said something that offensive to make you punch me. But uh, what did I do to make you so angry in the first place?"

"I didn't punch you out of anger, quite the opposite really!"

He watched as the Silver haired half elf Lia stood back up and stared at him with a pouty face.

"You're such a dunderhead... Uh, what is your name anyways?"

"Dunderhead? Who even uses that word in this time and age? Oh and my name, well for introductions!"

Subaru took a step back and got into a pose, pointing his right arm into the air with a smirk.

"My name is Natsuki Subaru, I'm turning eighteen this year, I'm utterly clueless and broke beyond compare! Nice to meet ya! Oh and what yours?"

He said ever so energetically. Was being "Broke beyond compare", and "Utterly clueless" reeeaaallly something to be energetic about?

Puck was going to say something before being cut off by Lia speaking, the wind blowing her hair to the side.

"My name? My name is.. Satella."

Puck looked at her with a shocked expression, Subaru chuckled closing his eyes.

"What's so funny Subaru?"

"You're really bad at lying y'know that right? Judging by the expression on your floating companion there your names not Satella. It's Lia right?"

The both of them looked at Subaru with equally surprised expressions, before Puck looked at Lia and said

"Yeah you should just drop it, it's not nice to lie to people Lia. did you learn nothing from what I taught you?"

"I'm sorry Subaru, you're right my name isn't Satella. But it's not Lia either you know. Puck just likes to call me that, my real name is Emilia."

"There we go, I like your name. It's cute just like everything else about you."

Said Subaru with a chuckle as Emilia's face went red.

"But we don't have any time to waste we should continue looking for the thief. Wait, they're a thief Which would mean they probably don't have a lot of money. By chance Emilia is there some place in this town where poor people live? Like the slums or the bad side of town?"

"Subaru! You're absolutely right! Come one we have to be hasty lets go! You're a genius!"

Said Emilia with a giggle as she started running, Subaru's face going red from the compliment before he followed her in pursuit.

And chapter 1 is complete! I know there isn't much different from the original first part of the first chapter but I put like two hours and a half of effort into this so I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless! And don't worry it will differ more from the main story in a couple chapters! Again this is my first work of fiction so some criticism would go a long way for me! Thanks for reading!
