FOREWORD
Ah, Dark Souls. That masochistic experience that has set a new benchmark in engrossing lore, awesome battles, and ridiculously hard difficulty. Followers of my fics will know that I've been meaning to do a story set in that series for some time, and while I managed a oneshot crossover with the Potterverse, Worth a Thousand Words and More, it was a mere fraction of what I wanted to achieve with a story.
Dark Souls is an almost unrelentingly bleak and dark world, with moments of happiness outweighed by the tragic. One of the greatest examples is that of Crossbreed Priscilla, whose backstory, while vague, can, in one interpretation, hint at a child born by rape, and confined to imprisonment because of her abilities. And yet, she is the only peaceful being in the Painted World of Ariamis, attacking only when you do, though her claims of the Painted World being itself peaceful seem somewhat disingenuous. This story, while taking a different tack from Worth a Thousand Words and More, have the same end: giving Priscilla a second chance. Same with a few other characters from the first game.
In addition, this was also my chance to expand on the notoriously vague lore of the Dark Souls games. I have used as a basis the videos of VaatiVidya, but I've also drawn my own conclusions where needed for the story. My interpretation is not necessarily the definitive one, but I'm sure those familiar with Soulsborne games already know this.
Anyway, time for the usual disclaimers. Firstly, there will be spoilers for both Dark Souls, and the Potterverse.
Secondly, there will be annotations, heavy annotations, and bellyachers will be treated with all due contempt.
Thirdly, for language, violence, horror and sexual references, this is an M-rated work.
