Gift to the Devil
Chloe was annoyed as she pulled into her driveway with her daughter. Trixie was supposed to be spending the night with her dad, but Dan had informed her an hour ago that he was taking an extra shift. Now, Trixie was upset because her father had broken yet another promise to her. Things like this were why Chloe had separated from Dan.
Chloe looked in the backseat at her daughter. "Hey, Monkey, how about we order some pizza. Then we'll go out for ice cream."
"I was supposed to do all that with Daddy," Trixie said in a sullen tone. She loved spending time with her mom too, but she got to do that all the time. She didn't get to spend as much time with her dad. It had only gotten worse when she and her mommy moved into her grandmother's house.
"I know, baby. Listen, I'm sure Daddy will make it up to you soon," Chloe said.
"Mommy, do you think Daddy still loves me?" Trixie asked miserably.
Her daugher's words left Chloe heartbroken, and also made her want to gouge her estranged husband's eyes out. How dare he break their daughter's heart so badly that she didn't even think he loved her anymore? No child should ever think that. "Of course, Daddy loves you. He's just really busy right now, but don't ever think he doesn't love you."
"You have the same job as him, and you always keep your promises," Trixie pointed out. "Sometimes I wish Daddy would just go away. Then it wouldn't hurt so bad because he wouldn't be able to break any promises."
Chloe said. "Come on, baby, let's go inside. We'll talk some more over dinner."
Trixie nodded before unbuckling herself and getting out of the car.
Chloe led the way inside. As soon as she stepped inside, her eyes went incredibly wide, and she immediately pushed her daughter behind her. There was a man in her house. He looked Africa African American and appeared to be in his fifties or sixties. "What the Hell?"
The man chuckled. "Not quite, my dear."
Chloe immediately took out her gun. "I don't know who you are, but you broke into the wrong house. I'm a detective with the LAPD. You need to put your hands in the air now."
"I'm afraid that won't be possible, Detective Decker," the man said unconcerned.
Chloe did a double take. This man knew her name. It wasn't an attempted robbery gone wrong. This was a targeted attack. "Get your hands in air, sir, or I will shoot you."
"Mommy?" Trixie asked in a scared tone as she clung to her mother's leg.
"It's okay, baby. She then looked towards her daughter's room, which the intruder was thankfully not blocking. While her gun was still trained on the man. She moved towards the room while tugging her daughter with her, making sure she remained behind her. When she got there, she pushed Trixie gently inside and shut the door. Whatever happened next, she did not want her daughter seeing.
"I assure you, Detective Decker, I don't mean you or your daughter harm. However, I have a feeling you'll think otherwise when we're finished," the man said.
"Who are you?" Chloe asked, still pointing her gun at him.
"Well, I feel you may be skeptical when I say this, but I am God," he said.
For a second, Chloe wondered if this man was crazy. He could have some sort of mental illness, but he knew her name, and while that didn't rule out mental illness, it did make her believe that he was at least lucid. "Is that supposed to a metaphor, meaning you think you're above the law. If that's the case, sir, let me assure you that you're wrong."
God watched as the human removed her cellphone from her pocket to call for help. "I'm afraid that won't work."
Chloe attempted to dial for help, but her phone wouldn't work at all. She couldn't even get it to light up. It didn't make sense because her phone worked fine just a few minutes ago.
"We need to talk. I don't suppose I can get you to lower the weapon. I assure you, it won't do anything to me," God said.
"No," was all Chloe said.
"I know you don't believe me, but I truly am God."
"Sure, pal. Let me guess. You think you're Godlike because you think no one can hurt you. You think you're untouchable," Chloe said.
"Well, yes, but not for the reasons you're thinking," God said before raising his and motioning towards the gun, which came flying into his hand.
Chloe immediately gasped in shock and looked down at her now empty hand. That was impossible. He was across the room. How could he have gotten her gun?
"I apologize, but I figured it was the best way to prove it to you. I also wouldn't want you to scare your child needlessly by trying to shoot me. As I said, it wouldn't do any good," God said before placing the down on a nearby table.
Chloe positioned herself right in front of Trixie's room. If this man had any intention of getting to her little girl, he'd have to go through her first. "What do you want? If you're looking for money, you won't find much."
God chuckled. "I have no need for that. First, I must tell you some things, which may be hard for you to understand. I have a son, many in fact, but I am speaking of my son, Samael. He and I got into a bit of an argument many eons ago. We both said and did things we shouldn't have. It ended with me sending him to Hell."
"You're talking about the Devil?" Chloe asked in disbelief. She refused to believe any of this was true. Yes, this man had just done the impossible, but she refused to believe that meant he was God. There had to be another explanation.
"I respectfully ask that you not call him that," God said a bit coolly. "Humanity has taken our disagreement way out of proportion. I suppose that's another conversation though. At one point, I decided to try make things up to Samael a little. I fashioned a gift for him. I'd seen a point where he'd come to Earth for more than just his usual sporadic visits. I arranged for him to encounter his gift during that time. Unfortunately, he put a wrench in my plans. He does that at times. He chose not to come to Earth after all. I don't know why, but it hardly matters."
"What is this gift you're talking about, and what does it have to do with me?" Chloe asked. She wasn't even sure how much of this she even believed. She still refused to believe she was actually talking to God, or that his son was the Devil.
"Well, there's no easy way to tell you this, my dear, so I suppose I should just get on with it. You are my son's gift."
Chloe's jaw dropped. "What?"
"Yes. You see, you weren't supposed to exist. You do because I had my son bless your parents, so that they would conceive. You were supposed to meet my son within the coming days. Again, he altered the plan," God explained.
"You're telling me you made me to be your son's girlfriend?" Chloe asked. She was pretty sure this guy was completely insane, but even if he was, this was insulting. He was claiming that her purpose was be a prize for some guy.
"I wouldn't put it that way. I didn't exactly construct you. Who you've become has nothing to do with me, and I don't control your actions, but, yes, you were made for Samael," God answered.
"Okay, that's beyond insulting, but your plan failed, so you can leave now," Chloe said. She figured she may as well humor the guy for now. She'd find out who the hell he was and have him arrested later.
"I'm afraid it's not that simple, child. The circumstances are not how I wished them, but I am determined that Samael will get his gift, even if I must deliver you to him. I don't like it, but my son comes first," God said.
"Wait. You're planning to abduct me?" Chloe asked as she took a step back. She no longer had her gun, and while this man didn't look like a threat, he'd managed to get her gun away from across the room. She had no idea what he was capable of.
"I'd hope you wouldn't see it that way. It may seem terrible now, but I am sure you will find happiness with Samael. I think your daughter will be better off as well. It may take time, but he will love her as his own," God said.
"No, you're not touching my daughter!" Chloe said as she continued to back up.
"I don't relish putting a child in Hell, but you will both be perfectly safe. I will make sure of that," he promised.
"People will look for us. I'm a cop," Chloe pointed out.
"I'm afraid you're not anymore. You both ceased to exist to the world the moment you stepped inside this house. I am sorry this distresses you, but again, my son comes first," God said as he lifted his hand up.
"No, wait…" Chloe stated, but she was cut off by a blinding light, then her vision darkened.
