Chapter 1: I'm sorry
'I'm sorry Mom, Kyoka, looks like I won't be seeing you guys again. Good luck Kyoka, you'll need it.' Izuku closed his eyes for the last time, the last thing he heard was the cool night breeze and a snap.
10 years earlier
Dr. Tsubasa had been a doctor for many years, and due to his experience he had seen many things, but this case was the strangest thing that he had seen. The confused doctor walked back into the room and saw his patient and their mother. He sighed, unable to form the correct way to properly tell them the news. He was brought out of his thoughts by the energetic four-year-old that was bouncing up and down in his seat.
"Well, what is it, Doctor? What's my quirk?" The excitement in his green eyes outshone even the brightest stars, and a smile so bright it could even rival the likes of All Might one day.
"Izuku honey, why don't you calm down and let Dr. Tsubasa tell us okay." The mother, Inko Midoriya rubbed her son's back to try to calm him down as they waited for Dr. Tsubasa to give them the results of the tests. The Doctor gave a sigh, took off his glasses, and rubbed his temple. That immediately put Inko on edge fearing the worst for her son. With one final sigh, Dr. Tsubasa put on his glasses to give them the news.
"I'll start with the good news, your son Izuku has a quirk, we took an x-ray of his foot, and scanned his body to see his quirk levels, and both showed that he does indeed have a quirk." Both Inko and Izuku gave a sigh of relief, but while Izuku revealed in the knowledge that he had a quirk, Inko had other concerns on her mind.
With a shaky voice, Inko asked the Doctor, "Dr. Tsubasa, If that's the good news, then what is the bad news?"
The silence in the room was deafening. No one in the room was moving, even the ever-excited Izuku who was basking in the knowledge that finally he had a quirk, began to grip his All Might toy as if his life depended on it as he began to feel the weight of the situation. "You know," Dr. Tsubasa started "I have been a Doctor for just about 30 years and I thought that I have seen everything. From quirks that can cause people to sprout wood from their body, quirks that allow them to put a target on anything, to things as simple as their quirk has their eyelids close vertically, instead of horizontally, I have even seen a good amount of quirkless people in my time."
With an increased amount of fear, Inko had enough of the Doctor beating around the bush. "Dr. Tsubasa, where are you going with this? What are you trying to tell us?"
Giving one final sigh, Dr. Tsubasa looked Inko dead into her eyes. "I have no idea what your son's quirk is."
Time seemed to freeze as the mother-son duo began to process what he had just told them. Izuku froze in his chair as his mind began to race trying to find some logic to what he had been told. Inko took a glance at Izuku to see the frozen look on his face, as she also tried to make some sense of the situation. "What do you mean you don't know what my son's quirk is?"
He thought for a moment trying to figure out the simplest way to explain it. "You see quirks are based on the parents own quirks, Your quirk is a form of telekinesis, and your husband's quirk is fire breathing, usually we would see a combination of the two quirks, or he would get one of the two quirks, but that is not the case. The more likely situation is that Izuku's DNA mutated and manifested a completely new quirk that he has not used yet and because he hasn't used it yet and his body is the same as someone who is quirkless excluding his pinky toe and quirk level, we have no idea what his quirk is." Dr. Tsubasa finished as he stood up and turned away from the pair.
Inko's voice cracked, "Are you sure? Have you double-checked? Please, There has to be a mistake!" The desperation in her voice was apparent. No parent would want to give their child nothing, but what she feared was not knowing what her son got.
Dr. Tsubasa frowned as he turned back them, "Ms. Midoriya, I checked the results ten times. I had the other doctors at the clinic check as well, we all came to the same answer. I sent the results to some of my other colleagues, including Recovery Girl. But until izuku manages to activate his quirk we still won't know."
Still unable to completely process the information, Izuku managed to push back his tears and gather what little hope, confidence, and nerves he had left to ask the doctor something that had been on his mind since he received the information, "E-e-even though we don't know what my quirk is, d-do you think I can s-still be a hero" Izuku was desperately griping at any hope that was there the All Might toy shaking in his hands.
Dr. Tsubasa could see the pain in Izuku's eyes as the light that was once in them began to dim. "Until we know what your quirk is, I don't think you can become a hero. I'm sorry." Darkness began to invade Izuku's vision as the last thing he heard was the sound of his All Might toy falling onto the floor of the room.
Hey everyone! This is my first fanfic That I have written. I have had this idea for about a week and I hope you like the direction that I take the story. This is going to be a slight One Piece crossover along with some other small things, so don't get your hopes up on any characters appearing, except for maybe a cameo. Please leave a review and I hope you all have a lovely day!
