"Still haven't decided Gedeon?"

The boy named Gedeon looked up. He was of dark skin complexion, showing that he was from the islands or from upper region Unova.

The boy wore a gray sleeveless jacket, along with black pants and black sandals. His raven black hair was long reaching the back of his neck.

"I suppose I haven't."

"Look...you're 15 years old, most kids your age are already out in the world traveling towards their goals...dreams." Gedeon looked at the elderly man next him with a somber gaze.

"I know...that's why I've been studying the gym leaders and champions."

"Still ignoring the dream part, eh?"

"Dreams get you killed...just like my parents." Gedeon sighed as he looked at the sky.

"What's the point of dreams?"

"Then use that for an incentive." Gedeon looked at the aging man with a fixated gaze. "You want to know the point of dreaming? Go out there and find out! I'm old...I've been through a lot, like war. It's over for me, but the beginning for you!"

"But..." Gedeon scratched his eyes. "Fine I'll go, old man..."

"Your dream was to meet Darkrai...the eater of dreams? How ironic..." Gedeon was finishing up filling a hole with dirt. He even made the elderly man a tablet with his name.

It read "Dagan Alexander."

"I will carry on your dream...until I find my own...stupid old man." The kid smiled before turning away. His grandfather passed away a week later. The man was sickly for the last few years and refused help. Gedeon guessed that's where his stubbornness came from.

Unknown to him, he was being watched by a certain shadow dweller. A lone blue eye shined brightly before dying down.

"Oh right! I need a pokemon." Gedeon scratched his head. He was prepared. He packed a ton of pokeballs, potions and even some berries.

"He really didn't leave me with much to go on..." Gedeon stopped as he stared down a rather gloomy trail.

He was in the middle of a rather large forest in Unova called Lostlorn Forest. And as its name suggests, getting lost can easily happen, but Gedeon was practically raised here so he knew his way out.

"What can I do to get out of here? I can try vining." Gedeon gave a heavy leap and gripped a heavy vine and began to swing.

"I wonder who can be my partner, I need-" Gedeon leapt off the current vine and onto another with a lot of speed.

"A partner who's unique and is extremely rare...something no one would expect." Gedeon now brought a hand to his chin.

"Let's see-"

Gedeon halted as he heard a loud boom noise. He spun onto a vine. "What was that?" Gedeon looked to the side, the source of the scream caused Gedeon to narrow his eyes.

"I see. Poachers this deep?"

"I'll get a lot of bucks off this!" One voice practically filled with glee spoke.

"Well obviously! My traps will always work!" Another said.

"Shut it trap freak. We need to get this rare thing out already, this will fetch a high price in the Unovan black market!"

"That's a Zangoose you nimrod!" Said pokemon in question glared daggers at the poachers.

"Don't glare at me like that, you're nothing but a ticket for money."

"You talk too much." A new voice joined.

"Wha-GRH!" The first poacher was smacked with a large vine.

"Who did that!" The goggle wearing man looked around frantically. The sound of leaves rustling was making the man scared.

"Wow, you're peeing yourself." The mystery voice ranged again

"AH!"

"Tch, fools. I hate idiots who act like they're tough but weak." The gruff voice came from a grumpy Gedeon who sat on top of the unconscious poachers.

"Now, A Zangoose in Unova, You look even more ferocious up close." Gedeon noted, getting Zangoose to glare at him, which he returned in kind, not showing weakness. Zangoose was bipedal however they usually walk on all fours. It has clean white fur with a deep red slash mark on its face, torso and claws.

"You can choose to stay here or whatever." Gedeon sat up and picked up his duffle bag, continuing to depart. Before Gedeon could walk he was stopped by the Zangoose, who seemingly challenged him to a stare off.

"Eh. Are you picking a fight?" The Zangoose stared at Gedeon's own brown eyes with a small glare.

"You shouldn't trust a human right away. That's bad for your health. But you're not weak." The Pokemon gave a grunt in response, probably signalling that it accepts Gedeon.

"Very well." Gedeon grabbed a Pokeball and threw it at the Pokemon. After a few shakes, it was successfully captured.

"Well, I guess this will suffice for now. " Muttered the boy as he looked at the white and red pokeball

"Finally out of the house, after a day." Gedeon sighed heavily. He grumbled as he noticed that Zangoose liked being out of its ball, but hey, who was he to keep a pokemon confined?

"Let's get going...Nimbasa is about 10 minutes from here." Gedeon yawned as did his Zangoose. He decided to name it Susanoo.

The inspiration for the name came from the fact that long ago, a legendary trainer named Susanoo who wielded a sword was partnered with a Zangoose. It was the perfect match.

"Let's see, I can get my Pokédex from a professor named Cedric. He lives so far away..."Gedeon felt like screaming his lungs out. He didn't expect the professor to live so far to the east of Unova.

It'll take a few days if not a week on foot, if he can keep up his current speed. He moved his chocolate colored eyes to his Zangoose who stared at him stoically. It was quite sad...the boy can see the lack of trust it has with humans in its eyes, except for him of course.

Gedeon was human, yeah, but he felt very distant, it was like they were a different species to him. Gedeon didn't hate nor like humans, they did excellent things as well as terrible things. Life really was like a coin.

"Hey, watch it!" Gedeon snapped out of his musing to see a red haired girl with a blue duck rushing his way.

Gedeon stepped to the side and let the hasty duo pass him, he snickered as the girl practically fell over a rock. He stared at the girl, and shrugged. He wanted to laugh, but held it in.

"That's what happens when you rush, tomato head." Gedeon taunted as he walked by the fallen girl and her pokemon, which was a species of Ducklett.

They weren't anything special to him and wouldn't be of use on his dream team. A team powerful enough to rattle the world. That was what he wanted. Darkrai would also be a part of that team.

"Hey! You could've helped me at least!" Gedeon didn't even bother to acknowledge the girl walking by his side, much to her and her Ducklett's chagrin and Castforms glee.

"You're of no importance to me, tomato head." Retorted the forest dwelling boy.

"Grrr! It's Skyla! And for your information I'm a pilot!" The girl replied back fuming, only to receive the cold shoulder from Gedeon.

That got Gedeon's interest...a bit.

"Oh? Then where's your plane..."

"In Nimbasa City! You look like you're lost."

"Ha! I know this region well, anyway, say. If you're a pilot, how about giving me a lift to Nuvema Town."

"Why should I Mr. Druddigon!" Gedeon raised a brow curiously, a Druddigon was the perfect addition to his team.

But back to the topic.

"Well for one, I need a lift and two...I'll just pay you back." Skyla hummed, not believing a thing the boy said but sighed.

"Fine, we're going to meet a friend first then I'll help you. By the way...what is that pokemon?" Skyla pointed at the Zangoose who was glaring at her Ducklett, who cowered in fear behind her.

"Zangoose. He's mainly native to Hoenn from what I researched."

"It looks…" Skyla moved her head back and forth between Gedeon and Zangoose and sulked a bit. "You two are very similar….it's scary actually." Skyla chuckled nervously.

"I saved it from poachers near my home, we've been partners since then." Gedeon told, he looked at Skyla to see her eyes were sparkling with lights around her. However that happened….

"You're...a big softie~" Teased Skyla.

"Don't push it."

"Well it looks like we're in Nimbasa city." Nimbasa serves as the heart of leisure and entertainment. It's even known as the 'Battle Central' due to the amount of facilities in the city. This was the perfect place to hone your skills and evolve as a trainer.

"This place is so...cluttered." Gedeon may know Unova like the back of his thumb but that doesn't mean he has to like it. He actually hated how much space these urban areas took away from nature. It seemed to bother his very being.

"You must be a country boy." Skyla retorted, getting a grunt from the boy.

"I was practically raised in the forest, so being in the city feels like a weakness, anyway...who's your friend?" Skyla grinned, which caught the new trainer off guard.

"An amusement...park? Seriously?" Gedeon looked at the shorter teen with a confused gaze.

"She'll be here...now!"

"Sorry I'm late! The crowd wouldn't let me escape." Gedeon turned around to see a blonde haired girl his age or a year older. She wore a yellow puffer jacket with black pants and yellow shoes. She possessed oceanic blue eyes and what seemed to be Electivire vine headphones.

"Who's the shockingly hot guy, Skyla?" The newcomer said which got Gedeon to groan a bit at the obvious pun. Another weird one, how great.

"Elesa this is Gedeon...Gedeon this is Elesa." Introduced Skyla, which Gedeon nodded to.

"The famous upcoming model...you look better in person. " Gedeon chuckled at the expression he received from the model and a jealous glare from Skyla.

"So I assume Skyla bumped into you?"

"No-"

"Yeah she did."

"Yeah-hey wait!" Elesa giggled a bit before noticing the scar on Gedeon's nose.

"How'd you get the scar?" Gedeon gave the slash-like mark a rub before sighing.

"I got into tons of fights back at my village, one day one of the residents thought a blade would make him stronger." Gedeon explained quickly and vaguely. He didn't want to give some sob story to practically strangers, he wasn't that trusting.

"I see...by village you mean."

"Village Of Dragons, at least up in the north village, Unova has a few." Skyla nodded while Elesa was even more intrigued.

"Interesting. You know, you look like a delinquent but you have a soft heart." Gedeon choked on his spit as he heard that. Zangoose merely watched the interaction with minimal interest, only interested in the fact his trainer was practically a victim as well to him.

"I'm not gonna respond to that, this girl owes me a lift to Nuvema Town for my Pokédex." A thumb pointed towards Skyla.

"Aha! I get it, you're a new trainer. Well I look forward to our battle."

"What..."

"I'm also a gym leader here in Nimbasa City."

"And I'm the next one in Mistralton City, so you better get stronger." Skyla warned.

Gedeon felt a rush of excitement bubble. He was already making progress in a sense that he now knows his enemies...not really but his future opponents or possibly rivals, nothing more.

He didn't start this journey to make friends but to go find his dream.

"It's been awhile since I've been here." Gedeon smelled the air, the water from the sea gave it a crisp feel.

"Now to see the professor." Gedeon looked back and forth before making eye contact to a facility up ahead.

"Well this is a rare sight, a Zangoose in Unova!" Gedeon looked to see a gray haired man with a short beard. The man wears a yellow striped shirt, with his sleeves being pulled up a bit and a grey undershirt and brown pants.

"Is it that special?"

"Of course, if I had to guess..." The aged man brought a hand to his chin going into deep thought.

"Illegal methods."

"I see." The old looking man spoke in a low tone.

"You must be Professor Juniper? My name is-"

"Gedeon Alexander...no worries your grandfather was my friend. I have prepared all that you need!" The boy was a bit stumped but was glad that his grandfather did leave something behind for him..even if it was something this small.

In the lab, Gedeon watched as several pokemon ran around happily. They were all innocent and carefree. As they should.

Gedeon simply smiled at the sight and watched as a certain trio of pokemon ran up to him. Cedric, the professor, came from around the corner with a device in hand.

It looked to be a rather clunky phone with a black and red pattern.

"That's a Pokédex...as you already know. And these-" pointing down at the three pokemon. "Are the starter pokemon of the region."

"Oshawott...Tepig and Snivy." Oshawott was a small sea otter-like pokemon with a clam-like scallop attached to its belly. Tepig was a small pig pokemon with a red color in the front and black in the back. Snivy was a small snake-like creature with a leaf tail and small feet and hands.

"Is it possible to take both Snivy and Oshawott? I researched Tepig and it won't fit on my dream team." Cedric gave a light chuckle before nodding.

"Very well. Just be sure to treat them well." Gedeon nodded and took out a green pokeball with yellow lines and a blue pokeball with a purple flower-like design.

Cedric was impressed at the creativity and rubbed his beard.

' How interesting...he possesses a strong drive. And a dream team? I wonder what he'll be like by the time he reaches the league. '

"So Zangoose, Oshawott and Snivy." Gedeon watched his pokemon play about, even Zangoose! And from the time they spent, Zangoose was the most strict.

"Susanoo, Mera and Ivy." Gedeon ate a piece of chocolate. "I'll need to have strict training regimens, I can't face the champion while being weak."

And this was the start of a journey of the ages.

And that's all he wrote. Sorry for this being short, i wanted to establish my OC, how he met Zangoose etc. As you can tell, Gedeon is quite similar to Paul, which will change as time goes by. Now i'll say this, i had this story written before however i am changing a lot of things.

First, is his partner. It was previously Galarian Farfetch'd, now it's Zangoose. Second is that Gedeon is more distant.

Now i read a lot of Pokemon fanfics and the ones I like are never completed, i hope to be different and complete this story. I will also take my time to develop future characters (Even OCs) and have fun writing this. Originally I rushed the story but I would like to slow it down and relax.

Now here's something almost everyone always asks

To be frank, I don't want to add any girls just because I like them, but I will NOT be touching the main ones. Misty, May, Dawn, Iris, Gen 7 girls and Koharu. I want to use unpopular choices like, for instance, Clair, Karen, Phoebe, Roxanne, Gardenia, Kahili etc. With them, I can expand their character, lore etc. but i will leave pairings to you guys, a pairing can dictate how a story flows. I just ask you to take these things into account.

Are they compatible with Gedeon.

Can they help develop his character

Will they do more than just be a love interest
