You would not believe your eyes
If ten million fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep
He stood over them, watching as the child ran around, chasing the little bugs who lite up the night like the stars above them in the heavens. Such simple things pleased her, the only mortal girl he seems to care about. She was growing up but still a child, far more innocent than any other human he knew.
He slowly turned, and his eye met with the woman who had just popped into this mind's eye without permission.
She stood in her Miko clothing, her glossy black hair was long now, unlike the rest, her's was wavy and curled at the ends as the wind blew it wildly.
"You called for me?"
It was at that moment that he realized she was no longer a brash, strong, odd human; she was a calm, strong, beautiful woman.
His stare had her worried; it had been some time since she had last seen him, like her, had grown to, at least in her eyes.
He turned from her and back to the child who had not a care in this cruel world.
"Hn,"
Kagome walked up and stood next to him. Though she was older now, she was still tiny compared to his being.
"How can I help?"
He took a breath in, and they watched Rin play; Kagome smiled. "To be that innocent again."
"You are still pure."
She smiled and snorted at the same time. "Not that I meant, but thanks for reminding me."
She sometimes forgot that her future words didn't make sense to him. He looked at her, finally understanding and then back at Rin. Why would anyone want to stay like that?
"She can not stay a child," He said,
"I know," Her voice sounded sad.
They watched as the fireflies seem to tease her,
"Is what why you called me?" She had a feeling it was coming,
"Hn."
"Are you going to be, ok?" It was silly asking him, she knew, but it was the Miko in her.
"Hn, I will leave her in your care Miko."
"Have you told her?"
"I will leave that to you."
Of course, he would; everyone liked giving her the hard work. She sighed, and he saw her shoulder relaxed, then with a deep breath, she stood tall and walked gracefully to Rin.
He watched as she knelt down to the child. Rin smiled, Kagome smiled, and the fireflies above them dance. It was a shame to him that they were not a demon; no doubt, their looks would have 0 parallel.
Protectiness washed over him, but he remained stotics and impassive.
The wind blew his hair behind him, and he watched his the Miko woman stood and held out her hand, Rin took it. The wind blew her hair, and their eyes met with understanding.
He was intrusting Rin to her; he trusted her. Kagome turned, and he watched as the pair of the only humans he ever thought about walk away.
He walked to where they once stood and looked down at Jaken, who was now crying for the child he pretended to curse left. He did not may him much mind; looking up, the fireflies seem to dance away from him. That was fine with him; unlike the humans, they dance with, he was not innocent.
He closed his eyes; they were gone now.
