Author's note: Here's another non-magical AU, taking place in the summer between Harry's fifth and sixth year.
Fay Dunbar
It was warm Saturday morning of June 15th, and Harry, Neville, Fay (who had brown hair in a low ponytail and brown eyes) and Luna were at a golf course getting ready for a nice day of playing golf after having breakfast at a nearby restaurant. Harry, Neville and Fay finished their fifth year at Graysbound High, while Luna finished her fourth year at the same school. Harry and Fay had been going together for a year, about as long as Neville and Luna being together, and their day of golf was a celebration of passing their respective years. Harry and Fay were avid golf players, with Neville and Luna expressing an interest to learn the sport themselves. After paying for the equipment and a golf cart, Harry, Fay, and their friends hopped into a 4-seat golf cart and Harry drove off towards the first hole. Neville and Luna were smiling enthusiastically, looking forward to learning how to play golf as they went. The four also put on black golf hats over their heads. Harry and Neville were also wearing blue polo shirts and gray golf shorts while Fay and Luna wore purple polo shirts and tan golf shorts, with the four wearing white golf shoes.
'Well, here goes!' thought Harry as he stopped the cart right by the first hole.
Then he and his companions got out, grabbed their golf bags and carried them over to a teeing ground. Fay got out a golfing tee, placed it in the ground and put a golf ball on top of it, since Harry and Neville were always adamant on the ladies first policy. After putting her golf ball on the tee, Fay picked up a club and put it against the golf ball before looking out into the open golf terrain towards the cup (which had a flagstick sticking up to let golfers know where it was) within the putting green, doing whatever she could to make sure her golf ball would be hit towards the flagstick.
"What Fay is doing is looking out towards that flagstick to take aim before swinging the golf club and hitting the golf ball in that direction," Harry explained to Neville and Luna. "The aim is to hit the ball into the cup with as few strokes as possible. A player also must make sure that their golf ball doesn't hit and out-of-bounds patch of grass. Some strokes can be two pointers, like if a golf ball gets hit into the water. Each swing of the club is one stroke, but moving the ball to a better position is a 2-stroke penalty. Unlike basketball or soccer, the scoring system in golf is different, as whoever has the lowest score wins. The scoring method we are using is based on par, with the par number telling you how many strokes it should take to sink the ball. If it take less strokes than the par, you will give yourself negative points. Likewise, if it takes more strokes than the par, you give yourself positive points. Negative points in golf is a good thing since the one with the lowest score wins."
Neville and Luna nodded their heads to show that they understood. At that moment, Fay was raising her club back and swung with all her might. Fay's ball landed in bounds near a sand pit. Harry even told Neville and Luna that they needed to pay extra attention to their ball and where it landed as if they otherwise couldn't find it, it would result in a penalty stroke. Luna was the next to go and her first hit resulted in her ball landing in the sand pit not too far from where Fay's ball landed. Neville went next and hit his ball that landed approximately twelve feet from where Fay's ball landed. Harry's landed in the sand pit, but slightly further from the cup than Luna's. Soon, the four managed to hit their respective balls onto the putting green, with Harry walking over to the flagstick to pull it out and set it off to the side.
"Flagsticks must be removed from the cup before the golf ball can enter," Fay explained as she was getting a golf club with a flat head. "Since that also results in a penalty stroke. Now comes the moment to putt. This club is also called a putter, which is designed for low-speed strokes on the putting green. Putting your golf ball into the cup depends on how far away your ball is and the strength of the swing. If the ball is closer, then it's best to putt with moderate strength to avoid it going past. But the strength of the putting will be up to you to determine, so it's a good idea to look down at the ball and over to the cup several times before you putt."
Neville and Luna nodded their heads again in acknowledgement, then Fay walked up to her golf ball to start putting. After she managed to get her ball in, Luna went until she got it, then Neville, and finally Harry. Then Harry put the flagstick bag in the cup before he, Neville, Fay and Luna returned to their golf cart with their equipment. Once the golf bags were back behind the seats, Harry and his companions got in the golf cart and drove away to the next hole, where Harry and Fay would take turns coaching Neville and Luna if they were to get stuck or confused. The four teens were going to have one heck of a story to tell their respective parents afterwards.
The End!
