This is an AU Undertale fanfiction... once again.
It will be in the POV of Indie, short for Indianne. (the pun is that she's from the state of Indiana).
With this out of the way, let's begin.
Chapter 1:
"Ugh... is this stupid quarantine ever going to be lifted?" I asked in annoyance as I looked at the calendar. It had been upwards of 4 months since the world went into a panic with this stupid virus that had been infecting everyone. And it was really annoying to me how everyone I met had the same mindset. That it was the end of the world and that everyone was going to die. Not helping was the fact that my mom committed suicide shortly after my dad died from this disease and then I was all alone in the house with just me and my cat, Temmie. Why did I name her that? Because she acted like a character in one of my favorite games, Undertale, who was named Temmie. And by that, I mean she was always hyper and did the weirdest shit you can think of. It was hilarious to have the connection.
"Hmm... maybe I should play Undertale again..." I smiled, me then deciding to play the Switch version of the game. I mean, it was available on PC, but I didn't like playing it on the computer, mainly because it allowed players to mess with the codes of the game. And I didn't want to do that, let alone the FUN values. What were FUN values? They were a hidden number in the game that made it possible to see secret events and very creepy Easter eggs, most of the latter being related to a creepy figure called W.D. Gaster, who was intertwined in both Undertale and it's spiritual successor, Deltarune.
"Mm... I don't think I've ever named the character Gaster before, though... at least, not on the Switch version. I wonder what'll happen when I do that?" I asked myself aloud as the screen then turned into the starting portion of the game, where it gave the backstory to the game's narrative... but not five seconds after I said the word Gaster, something very odd happened.
In place of the happy and cheery music in the game, was a very haunting melody that I'd learned to be scared of since I first heard it. Entry 17. Dark, Darker, Yet Darker. It sounded like the game was having a Modem problem and it was very creepy... but that's when something took a turn for the worst. Whenever the game showed Frisk falling down the hole, I felt something happen... out of nowhere, a large hand of black emerged from the television, grabbed onto me, and pulled me into the television, all in less than three seconds! I was so startled that I didn't even realize what was going on and just screamed in fear. "EEEEK! PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP MEEEEE!" I screamed in bloody murder as I saw something else... or rather, I felt it. I had fallen down onto the ground and I felt a bit sore from the fall... and when I opened my eyes, I was surprised. I wasn't in my room anymore. I was in a cave-like area and I was on top of a small patch of... buttercups?
"No... no, no, no! T-This isn't real... I'm dreaming, I just have to be!" I said with a smile as I then tried to pinch myself awake. No dice... and then I heard a voice from behind me that startled me.
"Who are you?" the voice asked, it sounding like it belonged to a teenage girl. I looked behind my back and I was surprised... Right there behind me, looking to be about 14 years old at around 5 feet tall, was a girl that wore a green sweater with a yellow stripe on it, brown hair that looked pretty shaggy on her head, and her eyes had red irises in them. It was Chara... but I could tell that she wasn't really alive when I could see through her slightly.
"U-Uh... I'm uh... I'm Indie... what's your name?" I asked with a gulp.
"My name? It's Chara... you're actually very unique, Indie... you're the first person who's seen me who's fallen down here... all the others could only hear me, but that didn't do much to help them out," Chara said, me looking at her with uncertainty. Sure, I never did any Genocide paths in my previous playthroughs and I always went for Pacifist endings... but I still knew that this could be an AU version of Undertale with this Chara having tons of souls from tons of evil Frisks. "Why are you staring at me?" she asked, me gasping and blushing a bit.
"S-Sorry... it's just... I have something to say..." I said, feeling that I could tell Chara at least, since no one else could see her... hopefully. "I'm what is known as the Player... do you know what that means?" I asked, Chara looking confused before she then gasped.
"Y-You were the one behind the screen? The one who determined the outcome every single time? All of them being good?" Chara asked, me sighing and nodding.
"I did... but for some reason, when I said the name of someone who shall not be named, the game started to glitch out and, just when the opening scene happened, a shadowy hand pulled me into the screen and I fell down onto this bed of flowers in place of the one who usually does so," I said, Chara looking at me in worry.
"Glitching out... a name that shouldn't be mentioned... tell me, did it involve FUN at all?" Chara asked... and I could've sworn I actually heard capital letters when she did so.
"Yes, you could say that FUN is the whole point of the one who's name shouldn't be mentioned..." I said with worry.
"I know who you mean, then... this is very odd, though. This has never happened before, to be quite honest... I don't even know if you'll be able to go back home at all, even if you reach the ending," Chara said with worry as I started to walk forward.
"Well, even if that were the case, my world isn't really in that good of shape right now. A big plague happened and the world's turned into a brick wall. People are forced to stay indoors, they get arrested for going outside, and people are so depressed and upset, there's been a massive spike in suicides and murders... I'd rather stay in a world like this one than my world in it's current state," I admitted bluntly, Chara smiling at that as she then reached out her hand to me and I was shocked by what happened... when she touched me, I could actually feel it and she looked a bit surprised as well.
"I... I can feel your warmth... what does this mean?" Chara asked in surprise.
"I don't know, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough," I said with a frown as I looked forward and went into the next room. And when I did, the flower was already there, waiting for me.
"Howdy! My name's Flowey! Flowey the Flower," the little goat in grass clothing said with a smile, me smirking at him and knowing exactly who he was... but I didn't dare reveal my cards too early.
"Hey there," I said, playing the dumb game.
"You're new down here, ain'tcha? I guess I gotta show ya how things are done down here, huh?" Flowey smirked.
"Don't worry, I can handle myself. I know my way around most scenarios," I said, which was both true and false.
"Oh? Then why don't you try to find your way around this?" Flowey said as his face turned into a wicked grimace, he pulled my soul out of my body, and I saw it and I got surrounded from all sides by white pellets. But that wasn't the weird part. My soul looked like it was actually black with a red outline to it, the complete opposite of Frisk's soul... "In this world, it's kill or be killed! Die!" Flowey exclaimed as he then cackled like a maniac and the petals started to close in on me... but Chara then shielded them by expelling a bit of force, which completely git rid of the pellets as I then was able to see my stats...

"Huh?" was my reaction as well as Flowey's as I then saw a fireball appear from the north and I saw it collide into Flowey, which blasted him over my head and to a wall, where he quickly went under the dirt as she appeared. Toriel.
"What a despicable creature, harming such a poor innocent... um... are you a child or an adult, miss?" Toriel asked me. It was expected, though. I was actually 5'7", very tall for an adult female and I then told Tori how old I was.
"I'm 21 years old, miss. That makes me a young adult in human years," I smiled... though I could tell that Chara looked a bit worried as my soul was still outside of my body and Toriel then noticed it.
"O-Oh my!... Your soul... It's almost as if it's got a FUN value of... a number I cannot even fathom!" she gasped, that making me sweat from worry and surprise.
"Is that why my stats are all unknown?" I asked as Chara held my hand in worry... I didn't dare say anything, considering Tori couldn't see her.
"I think so... please, I must ask that you come with me, young lady. I'm Toriel, the keeper of the Ruins. What's your name?" she said with a caring smile.
"Indie. My name's Indie. It's nice to meet you, Tori," I smiled as I then shook her furry hand... but when I did, Tori looked shocked beyond all compare and let go immediately, her then looking confused soon after.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"I... I could've sworn that I saw... no, they're dead..." Tori said in surprise before I looked at Chara and she simply shrugged.
"Hmm... maybe try holding my hand as we move forward, Tori? I want to get away from this room," I said, Goat Mom nodding as she then took my hand and I saw she looked surprised again and she looked directly at Chara as we moved through the next room and to the first puzzle.
"Chara?... Is that really you, my child?" Toriel asked my ghostly friend, her gasping and looking at Toriel with surprise.
"Y-You can see me?" she asked.
"Only whenever she's in direct contact with my body... it may have to do with my soul having a high FUN value," I said, Chara shaking her head at that.
"Do you even know what FUN stands for?" Chara asked, me shaking my head no at that as Toriel then temporarily removed her hand from mine to solve the first of the puzzles. "It stands for Force of Universal Nothingness. The higher the number of your FUN value, the more unnatural your presence in this world is... it might have to do with you being from outside of this universe... or you-know-who," Chara said, me nodding at that. I knew better than to say his name aloud in a place such as this. Toriel and I then walked forward some more with Toriel intentionally holding onto my hand this time as I saw that my soul was still outside of my body.
"Um... how do I get my soul back in my body?" I asked.
"Just grab it and press it to your chest. That's how it worked for me," Chara said, me nodding and doing just that, seeing that it actually worked.
"Please tell me, Chara... what did you tell Indie while I did that one puzzle? Because I could tell by her expression that she was talking with you," Toriel said, me smiling and looking at Chara. She shook her head no, so I simply nodded. I knew not to tell the truth to everyone I met, let alone Toriel. Besides, learning that I knew everything about this game and all the stuff in it? It'd shock her big time. But I did know I could tell her one thing in particular.
"Chara told me that I may have a high FUN value because of something special about me... I'm not actually from this world," I said, Toriel looking at me in confusion.
"All humans aren't from this world, Indie. They all fell down here from the surface world," Toriel said.
"No, I'm not talking about that... I was teleported here from another reality, one where monsters never existed," I said, Toriel then stopping in place at that and looking at me in surprise.
"Are you truthful?... I'm not one for believing things such as that," Toriel said to me with a frown.
"I am truthful. In fact, most monsters in my world are fairy-tales and nothing more. Most of them depict monsters as being gigantic and terrifying... unlike you, who is very sweet and caring to strangers like me," I said, Toriel smiling at me.
"I wish I could believe you... but I need some kind of solid proof that you say you come from a different reality other than your soul being filled with a high FUN amount," Toriel said with a smile... and I then decided I'd whisper something in her ears.
"You used to be married to someone named Asgore before a tragedy struck your family... and you try to keep the fallen humans at your house in the Ruins to prevent them from seeing Asgore, because he was so grief-stricken from the loss, he declared war on humanity. And to wipe out the human race, he needs 7 human souls in order to do so," I whispered in her ear, Chara looking at me with a sigh and rolling her eyes while Toriel looked a bit taken aback by what I'd just said.
"W-What... how did you know all of that?" she asked in surprise. I then held her hand as Chara then explained it to her for me.
"Indie's reality is different from our own, but she knows everything and every detail about this world... because in her reality, this entire existence is a video game," Chara said, Toriel looking a bit surprised and looking at me with worry.
"So... how did you get sent here from your reality, then? What triggered the transportation from your world to this one?" Toriel asked in confusion. I then went to her ear and whispered in it once again.
"I said the name of someone very mysterious that is correlated to this world and another of similar fashion... one who can only appear with a specific FUN value in a single area in the game... he's a doctor who speaks in hands," I said the last part while wincing, hoping that wouldn't get his attention. But Toriel then gasped at what the last part was.
"Y-You mean... Your FUN value has something to do with... Professor G-" she was about to say before I covered her mouth with my hand and shushed her loudly.
"Just speaking his name was enough for me to be warped to this world in a truly disturbing manner, so saying his name in this place would probably be way worse... he's so well-hidden for a reason. Just meeting him is enough to hurt this world and doing certain things to try and find out more only end up ruining the world altogether," I said, Toriel sighing and nodding at that.
"Okay... I'll try to refrain from saying his name, then... let's just continue on... it's a bit of a walk to my house, after all," Toriel said as she then continued to hold my hand as we arrived at the part of the Ruins that had the spike tile puzzle.
