Beholding the suddenly manifested Liz, Lin Ye was suddenly caught off guard. She might think that he was causing trouble. As he was about to stumble out a precarious reply, he sensed that something was off.
Fuck! I was caught off guard. Obviously I didn't do anything! I'm just a victim. Also I'm not any victim, but a victim who is about to be killed by a vampire! Why did I react like I was cheating and was caught?
So in his haste to reduce the damage he changed his tone and shouted at Liz "Liz! Get a bunch of onions! I need them to ward off a crazed vampire!"
"Huh! Don't talk nonsense!" Warfarin howled back in protest, "I just want a little bit of your blood for research!"
"I'll become a ghost if you take that much of my blood! Are you that stupid to not realize that?!"
Liz looked at the scene in front of her and gently sighed.
Five minutes later, after paying the price of 200CC of his blood, Lin Ye was finally able to leave Warfarin's blood bank. But when he looked into Warfarin's eyes, Lin Ye felt that his encounter with her wouldn't stop there. If Warfarin really liked his blood, then 200CC would not satisfy her obsession. She was definitely bound to come back.
Why is there such a strange person?
Lin Ye judged that his fate was too much for him to handle.
Thinking about that, he couldn't help but sigh heavily.
Liz turned her head and glanced at him, "Why were you in Doctor Warfarin's office?"
Lin Ye continued to sigh, "No, it's not a long story. I was on my way to find you."
"Looking for me?"
"Yes," He nodded.
"Then why did you go to Dr. Warfarin?"
"I didn't find her, she found me. What would I do if I met her? I was also desperate."
After listening to Lin Ye's story in great detail, Liz placed her head in her hands with an exasperated sigh, "That is indeed your bad luck, Dr. Warfarin is indeed such a person. She is a vampire after all."
"Is that typical behaviour of vampires in general?"
Liz shook her head in disagreement, "No, the standard vampire is even worse than Doctor Warfarin. Doctor Warfarin is already regarded as the one with the most self-control among her kind. In most cases, she can normally control her desire... unless it's an extremely rare case like yours..."
"Most of the time? Unless it's an extreme case?"
Liz replied, "It's probably because your blood is different from other people's blood."
"Um... Warfarin also said that it's because I'm a pure human? I don't know what she meant at that time though."
Lin Ye shook his head and then turned to look at Liz as if in thought.
"By the way, I haven't seen you in a few days," He smiled at her, "I presumed that you're still catching up with everything after you know...since you seem to be getting back into the swing of things."
Liz simply responded in a slow and low voice, "Because I've been reading."
"About?"
"A lot, a lot of things," Liz said softly, "Because the R&D department doesn't have enough researchers, it's getting more and more difficult to complete research projects as they just keep piling up. So I've been reading books. Although I've read a lot of books, I still know so little compared to everyone else. I have to read more so that I won't trouble Sister Nearl and Shining any further."
Lin Ye was speechless, "Are you spending all this effort to not be a burden? That's the most insane thing I've ever heard."
"It's not insane at all," Liz denied by shaking her head, "When I was sick, many, many people took care of me. Now that I'm cured, I want to pay them back however I can. Just reading and working isn't enough."
Lin Ye stared at Liz as the moonlight shone and illuminated her pale beautiful face. A couple seconds later Lin Ye felt mixed emotions about this. The little girl who followed him and shouted to eat pineapple buns was gone. No, she had grown up. He didn't know what to think. Lin Ye suddenly felt his chest tighten.
Goddamn it, I feel like a dad.
He just stated, "You don't need to push yourself. Those who cared for you when you were sick didn't do it for any personal gain, they did it because it was the right thing to do."
Liz hummed softly and then asked Lin Ye, "When did you come back?"
Changing the subject, huh?
"Today," Lin Ye just played along with her. If she didn't want to talk about this, he wouldn't force her.
"Is the energy in the amulet already used up?"
Lin Ye gave a hum, and then felt something was wrong, "Why do you ask?"
"You were trying to find me, right? Didn't you come to replenish the energy of the amulets?"
The corners of Lin Ye's mouth twitched slightly "You think I'm looking for you because of that?"
"Why were you looking for me then?" Liz tilted her head.
Lin Ye took a deep breath, then stretched out his hand and rubbed Liz's head vigorously, "Of course not, you're not a tool, why would you think that? I'm not just looking for Sanctuary."
Liz's hair became an instant jungle, but she didn't seem to care at all. She just shook her head and asked "What does being a tool mean?"
"It means exactly what it says."
"Huh?" Liz swayed her head to one side, "It doesn't seem like it's a bad thing to be a tool."
"Ah? Why do you think that?"
Liz responded "Is that strange?"
"Of course it's strange" Lin Ye shook his head.
"But I don't think it is strange. People need help," Liz muttered softly, "Just like I'm helping you now, and when you help me. So I don't think it's strange at all."
Lin Ye slowly stopped moving. He didn't expect that Liz would interpret the obviously derogatory alien term in such a fashion.
If someone else had said that to him, Lin Ye would have definitely thought that the other party was being sarcastic, but Lin Ye knew that Liz was not a sarcastic person. As he looked deeper into her eyes, they further revealed that she was more than willing to become a tool for his sake.
Lin Ye says softly, "I thought you would be better off after being ill, you wouldn't be so slow. I didn't expect to be as slow as you are before."
Liz frowned and rebutted with clear displeasure, "I might not understand what a tool means, but I still understand what a slow person is. If you make me angry, I won't help you replenish Sanctuary and Dogmatic Field energy".
"I said I didn't come to you for that," Lin Ye chuckled at her.
Liz looked up at Lin Ye "What is then?"
Lin Ye took out the pineapple bun bag from his pocket and revealed it to Liz, "Of course I brought you supper".
He smiled at her.
