Chapter 75
Wind Dragon's Wrath
Natsu
Wendelyn stared down at us. Her eyes pierced through the overwhelming magic and shot daggers at Zero. I couldn't believe she was even standing. She fell out of a window! It was a miracle that she was even alive. How she was even able to move was beyond even me. I don't think even Wendy could have saved her from that. Just who exactly was this woman?
"Still kicking, Wendelyn?" Zero shouted to her, "Good, I expected a better fight from you! I'm told you're a very powerful woman."
Zero raised his hand and fired three rays of darkness at Wendelyn. She didn't move a muscle as the rays homed in on her. An explosion rang out, clouding our vision of the blue haired woman. I saw no movement from Wendelyn to suggest she tried to dodge the attack. It looked like she decided to just take the hit head on.
The dust blew away from Wendelyn, revealing her still standing in place. Although she was hunched over in pain, her entire body was covered in white scales. They reminded me of the scales we found mixed with the glass when we found her at the central tower. Seeing them on her reminded me of Dragon Force.
She extended her hand with her palm facing up. She put on a twisted smile as she said, "It's my turn now. This is for throwing me out a window."
A magic circle formed below our feet. It spanned the entire room. This wasn't a small room either, it was actually impressive that it covered as much ground as it did. I noticed that it's design was somewhat similar to Wendy's. This was definitely a wind-based spell.
"Wind Dragon's Tornado."
In an instant, I felt my back crash through the ceiling. Wind rushed by me at an insane speed. It cut against my skin with such ferocity that I thought I would be cut into pieces. I had to shield my eyes as I traveled further and further up. As the force of the wind died down, I opened my eyes. I must have been miles above the ground. I could see all of Nirvana below me. The leg that we were fighting in had a sizeable hole in it, and it cut straight through to the other side. I started to fall.
I screamed out in fear as I plummeted to the ground. I would have to use my magic to break my fall. Luckily, someone grabbed onto my back and stabilized me in the air.
As I tried to catch my breath I said, "Th-thanks Happy."
"A-aye s-sir."
Happy was clearly as shaken up as I was. Between the terror that was Zero and now being launched into the sky, it was no wonder that I was getting worked up. This was like nothing I had ever felt before. I could only think of one other time that I felt this overwhelmed before, and that was during the Tower of Heaven incident.
"Natsu, are you okay?" I heard Siegrain shout to me.
I looked in his direction and caught him flying over to me. He was carrying Lucy bridal style.
"Yeah it's…" I inspected my arm, "Just a couple of scratches."
Truthfully, I expected my injuries to be far worse than they were. It was then that I realized, I was being enchanted. My durability must have been increased, because there was no way I was surviving a spell like that on my own.
"Where's Gray?" I asked.
Lucy pointed away from us, "O-over there."
My eyes bulged. No doubt about it, that was Gray. All he had on was his boxers, which wasn't a surprise. He stripped way earlier. What was surprising was the person holding him upside down by his ankle. There Wendelyn was, body covered in scales, and dragon-like wings protruding from her back. She flew down to the ground and we followed.
"A-are you a…dragon?" I asked.
She glared back at me, "Do I look like a dragon? I'm a dragon slayer."
I couldn't believe it. I met two dragon slayers in one day! I had a feeling this was Dragon Force she was using, but it wasn't anything I'd ever seen before. Her scales were more pronounced than Cobra's were, and she had wings! She looked like a humanoid dragon. All she was missing was the snout and tail.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a demon to put down."
She started walking away when a Dark Capriccio shot at her. With her left hand, she deflected the attack! The spell went soaring through the air and hit a building. The entire building was engulfed in darkness and fell to the ground with a large crash. Wendelyn flapped her wings and expelled all the dust from around us. Far off in the distance, I could sort of make out Zero. The only reason I knew it was him was because I could still feel his magic radiating from over there. Plus I could smell him.
Wendelyn launched herself at Zero. The dark mage dodged out of the way of her initial attack and was forced onto the defensive when Wendelyn went for another. Gusts of wind shot forth from her attacks. Anytime Zero attempted to parry her, his skin was cut, and blood splattered around them. It made for an unpleasant smell.
"Gray!" came the voice of Juvia.
"Juvia? What are you doing here?" Gray asked.
The water mage ran right into Gray and knocked him over. I couldn't tell if she intentionally did that, or if she was genuinely clumsy enough for that to happen. The two picked themselves off the ground, blushing the whole time.
"Juvia heard a commotion in the direction you were fighting. What's going on though?"
We looked over to Zero and Wendelyn. Zero appeared to have finally gotten the opportunity to take the offense. Dark magic slammed into the Dragon woman, pushing her back inch-by-inch. It was also inching closer to us. With the amount of magic power Zero was letting off, it would be bad if it hit us.
"We should probably get somewhere safe." Siegrain suggested.
"Aren't we going to help her?" I asked.
Siegrain looked to Lucy, "Apparently she is much stronger than we thought. She can handle herself."
In that moment, Wendelyn gut punched Zero. He keeled over and she followed through. With a large gust of wind, Zero was lifted into the sky. Wendelyn chased him into the sky and kicked him once more. He was launched further away, but in an instant Wendelyn was behind him. She knocked him in another direction and began to volley him in the air. It was insane how fast she was moving. I'd never seen someone move so fast. I swear she was going faster than Happy at max speed!
I couldn't argue with Siegrain. She was clearly holding her own against Zero. We made our way away from the two fighters. I started to pick up the scent of Jura. He was taking care of the lacrima directly across from mine, Gray's, and Happy's. I imagine he was coming for a similar reason to Juvia.
From up in the air, Zero blasted Wendelyn with his darkness magic. This managed to get her off him and threw her to the ground. He must have used some kind of spell because he managed to land safely on the ground. Perhaps he also used it to survive Wendelyn's Wind Dragon's Tornado?
"That's what I'm talking about! This destruction, I love it!" Zero shouted gleefully, "I'll destroy you, just like everything else in this world!"
Wendelyn picked herself up off the ground. She cracked her neck, causing scales to fly off. She grabbed the side of her neck as if in pain.
"I'll admit, I didn't expect you to put up this much of a fight." Wendelyn conceded, "Better than Siegrain to be honest."
I looked at Siegrain in confusion. He was watching the battle intently. I realized that without Dragon Slayer Senses, he probably couldn't hear them as well as I did.
"You fought Wendelyn?"
"How did you?"
I pointed at my ears, "Enhanced hearing."
"The short version is I was controlled by Nirvana."
Lucy piped in saying, "He's got abandonment issues."
"What?" everyone asked, with Siegrain giving her an annoyed look.
Our conversation was cut short by the massive amount of magic radiating off of Zero. He was once more gathering a large amount of magic in his hands. The darkness magic washed over us and felt every bit as terrifying as it did before. Maybe it was the distance between us and him, but I didn't feel paralyzed like before.
"This time I'm going to finish you!" Zero shouted, "Genesis Zero!"
It was the very same spell that he used on me. It was almost totally unavoidable. No attack seemed to be capable of stopping those phantoms from swallowing you whole. The amount of phantom's he sent at Wendelyn was impossibly large. It was like an entire army was descending upon her. The spell was significantly stronger than when he used it on me. Wendelyn didn't move an inch.
I watched in horror as the phantoms advanced on her, only to watch her put her fists together. She took a deep breath and I watched as a magic circle, which was about as big as she was, take form. I knew well what spell she was about to use, but I questioned whether it would be enough to stop the phantoms.
With her head facing the sky she cried out, "Wind Dragon's Roar!"
She threw her head down as the phantoms were just inches away from her. She let loose her roar. It was no competition. The sheer force of her roar eviscerated the phantoms. I was forced to shield my eyes as the high-powered wind blew across the battlefield. All I could hear was the sound of the roaring winds as I was thrown against a wall of earth. The sound of the wind became muffled and I peeked out from between my fingers. We were surrounded on all sides by rock. Still though, the wind was loud and deafening.
The rock enclosure shook violently. It felt like it would shatter in a matter of moments. Fortunately, when it did shatter, it wasn't due to the wind. The crumbled by the very same magic that erected them: Jura.
When the earth came down, we looked at where Zero once was. All that remained was a massive crater. It was long, deep and heavily serrated. It extended all the way to where one of the legs was situated. It tore through the leg, leaving a massive hole in it. It was like a meteor had crashed into Nirvana and taken out a large chunk of it. Or Nirvana experienced the Wind Dragon's Wrath.
On the other end of the crater, was Wendelyn. Her scales were gone, and she was staring off into the distance. She fell to her knee and clenched her stomach. I could no long pick up Zero's scent. Wendelyn's roar had literally spread it to the winds. With that kind of damage, I had a feeling he was no longer even on Nirvana anymore.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed this chapter. What did you think about Wendelyn's fight with Zero? Let me know in a review!
