Chapter Twelve: In Which Chances Are Deadly
"D'you think he meant you to do it?" said Ron. "Sending you your father's Cloak and everything?"
"Well," Hermione exploded, "If he did - I mean to say - that's terrible - you could have been killed!"
"No it isn't," said Harry thoughtfully. "He's a funny man, Dumbledore. I think he wanted to give me a sort of wanted to give me a chance. I think he knows more or less everything that's going on here, you know. . ." He trailed off when he saw the look on Hermione's face. It was rather scary, in Harry's defense.
"He wanted to give you a chance? To do what? To heroically charge into battle with Voldemort? If he really does know everything that goes on here, then he should have known Quirell was harbouring Voldemort! He just admitted that he did know, but waited until the end of the year to take any action! Quirell had a million chances to kill you until then!"
Harry was speechless.
"Professor Snape's threatening of Quirell was just an act, an act to make up for the incompetency of Headmaster Dumbledore! I think his plan was to make you into some sort of hero, but it backfired in various places! Like when we thought Snape was the one in league with Voldemort! And when we lost Ron in chess! Dumbledore probably put that chessboard there to make Ron feel like he was doing his part in the adventure! That's what this was, another adventure for the Boy-Who-Lived. . ."
Harry didn't interrupt her. He was too shocked to do so anyway. It all made perfect sense, right up to the Mirror. If he hadn't been there, Quirell would have never been able to find the Stone in the first place! He told Hermione that.
"Exactly! Those protections were useless too, because a real Dark Wizard would defeat them in two seconds! A real Dark Wizard like Voldemort would just force his way through like hot knife through butter!"
Ron didn't like the systematic destruction of his hero's character at all, "Dumbledore is a great wizard, you shouldn't be talking about him like this."
"Shut up, Ron." They both said at the same time. He closed his mouth immediately.
"I bet Dumbledore led me to find the Mirror somehow, because he was there to tell me how the Mirror works!"
"Brilliant, Harry!" She jumped onto him and they shared a really passionate kiss. . . Actually, what followed was an awkward brushing of lips, but it was romantic nonetheless.
Ron fainted. They both blushed.
"So - er - anyway, what do we do next? We know Dumbledore planned all this, but what do we do about it? Do we call the police? Is there any such thing as police in this world?" Harry asked.
Hermione replied, "Well I think we should write a letter to the Ministry. I guess magic will help the letter find the right people."
And it did. The letter reached the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Dumbledore and Snape were given seven years and thirty years in Azkaban respectively. Life was much better for everyone at Hogwarts.
AN: Harry was rather gullible, believing that Dumbledore was great in offering him the chance. Hermione reminds him of the value of life and one thing leads to the next.
Also, a cute H/Hr moment! They are just eleven, so they can't be skilled at kissing and whatnot, so awkward brushing it is! It was romantic though, wasn't it? My good friend stevem1 is a H/Hr shipper, and I'm sure he enjoyed it!
