Chapter 2

"Hermione, when are you going to let me set you up? You never date and you're buried in your work all the time." Ginny asked again, for the third time this week.

"Yeah, 'Mione! I can introduce you to someone at the auror office. What about Anthony Taylor? You've seen him, right? A pretty decent bloke." Ron said, looking a little worried for his friend's sake.

"Or, what about your colleague from the Ministry? Was it Caesar? I saw you two having lunch last week. I've asked around...and it seems he's well liked, good at quidditch, a Ravenclaw, only older by two years..." Harry inquired Hermione, somewhat solemnly.

Hermione, though exasperated, understood why her friends were concerned. They could not understand why Hermione refused getting into relationships with any of her admirers over the years. They had found love early on, having already tied the knot and in married bliss for years. At times like this, Hermione felt as if she was behind... as if her time was ticking. But on most days, Hermione knew that that logic was irrational. She knew that love would come when it was ready. She knew what she wanted and was not willing to settle for anything less than everything her heart desired. Maybe she was naive, or maybe too idealistic. Either way, she didn't care. She was already happy on her own and was living a good life. If she were to be with a significant other, it would be for a love that is unconditional, unequivocal, and all-encompassing. It would be with a partner that could match her intellectually and with one that enjoys engaging in philosophical debates. How could she possibly explain all this to her friends? They would think her mad and out of touch with reality.

"You three, there really is no need to worry. It will happen when it happens. I'm not opposed to finding love at all, so let me be in charge of finding someone for myself." Hermione insisted.

"Besides, I have a good feeling about this year." Hermione in part, was trying to placate her friends but at the same time, was convinced herself that this year would bring about change.

"Ooh! Does that mean you are seeing someone Hermione?" Ginny was clearly excited and eager to hear what was happening.

Hermione, not wanting to have to give her a direct answer replied wistfully, "Hmm...it's too early to speak on it. Be patient, will you?"

"Alright, alright! We'll be patient, 'Mione. Make sure you bring this person over for our next get-together." Ron was convinced.

Harry gave Hermione a look that said he wasn't. Regardless, "I'm looking forward to it, 'Mione," he said.
