Chapter 9
Today was the big reveal. It was difficult to contain his excitement, so Draco decided not to. Just yesterday, he found out that he was officially a father to be. He had dinner plans at the Manor today with his parents and was going to announce his pregnancy. He wore his favorite emerald green robe and prepared the small matching emerald green robe that he had bought yesterday on his way home from St. Thomas. No matter how his parents reacted to his news, he was not going to let it affect his happiness.
Malfoy Manor
As Draco arrived at the Manor, he heard voices. As he made his way into the dining room, he was met with unexpected company.
"Ah, Draco! You're here. Take a seat," Lucius said, with a smirk.
His mother greeted him as well. "Draco, darling! Wonderful to see you. You remember the Greengrasses? They have delighted us with their company today."
Although unexpected and unwelcome, Draco said cordially, "Of course. Mr. and Mrs. Greengrass, Miss Greengrass, pleasure to see you here."
"My, my. It's been so long since we've seen you, Draco. You've grown into an exceptionally handsome young man."
"Thank you, Mrs. Greengrass," Draco replied politely.
As he sat down next to Astoria Greengrass, Astoria gave him a smile.
"Hi, Draco. It's wonderful to see you."
"You as well, Astoria."
Draco had surmised that his parents would make their move on securing an alliance soon but he nonetheless, was surprised by how quickly they acted. Good thing he came prepared.
"I have some great news to share today," Draco said with an unaffected smile.
"Oh? What news might that be, darling?" Narcissa, in part curious and in another, uneasy, asked Draco.
Draco looked around the room. With a deep breath, he pulled out the decorated box that contained his first purchase for his baby. He set it on the table in front of his parents.
"Open it," he said.
Lucius, not expecting a jeweled box, "An antique jeweled box, is it? There must be something valuable inside, Draco."
"There is. I can guarantee it will be one of the most valuable gifts I will share with you in my lifetime," Draco said.
Intrigued, Mr. Greengrass asked, "Wow, what could it be?"
All eyes were on the jeweled box as Narcissa slowly opened it. Inside, she found a small, exquisitely made emerald robe. She held it up in front of everyone to see.
"Oh! A beautiful, small robe. What is the meaning of this, Draco?" Narcissa asked.
Taking a deep breath to calm his nerves, Draco announced with a big smile, "I'm pregnant!"
There was silence all around the room.
The Greengrasses, shocked and offended, were at loss for words.
Lucius, equally shocked, furious and embarrassed that Draco would say something so preposterous in front of his potential future wife and parents in law, glared at Draco.
"Draco, explain yourself. I am certain that you are not seeing anyone. How can you be pregnant?"
"It doesn't make sense, Draco. Did you...did you have a casual encounter with someone?" Narcissa looked scandalized.
"No. I decided that I will only wed a witch when I am completely in love with her. Thus far, I have not found anyone. No, mother, I have not been engaged in a casual encounter, as you say. I have been wanting a family of my own for years, so I made the decision to go through with it," Draco concluded, in a firm manner.
Mrs. Greengrass, coming off from her shock, "Did you adopt a child?"
Draco replied, smiling: "No, I did not. I used muggle technology advanced with magic to grow my baby from an artificial womb at a facility. I have received a donation from a kind witch, who was willing to help me."
Now, everyone was truly speechless.
