Chapter 24
After a moment of silence, Narcissa began:
"Draco, we don't feel hatred for muggles anymore. We don't have cause to interact with them much, and we believe that that's all there is to it."
Lucius added,
"Yes. We don't hate them anymore. In fact, we are neutral in our thoughts of them."
"You haven't answered the other two questions. Would you welcome a muggle as your daughter in law and a muggleborn child as the Malfoy heir?"
Draco gave them a moment to let them digest his words. He concluded with a half truth.
"Mother, father, I plan on marrying a muggle and having a muggleborn child. Only contact me again, if and when you're ready to welcome them wholeheartedly."
After Draco left, Lucius and Narcissa sat at their settee to go over what had happened.
They were absolutely boggled. A halfblood, a muggleborn...they had all prepared themselves for before inviting Draco. But, an actual muggle, not even a witch! That was a total and utter shock.
"Lucius, say something. What shall we do?" Narcissa was desperate.
"Narcissa, from what I gather, we have two choices. One will lead us to forever losing our chance to reconcile with our son, and the other, to usurping our ways to change the legacy of our family forever."
It was clear to both Lucius and Narcissa that they were at a moment in time where their choice would irrevocably change the future drastically.
After a brief silence, Narcissa spoke with resolution.
"Well, losing our son is not an option. Without him, everything else is really pointless."
Lucius nodded solemnly.
"Yes. You are right, my dear. There is no future for us without Draco in our lives."
As the Malfoys made their decision, they prepared to contact their son once again. As per his words, they had to wholeheartedly welcome the new addition into their family, and so, for the next few weeks, they took initiative in learning all they could about muggles and muggle culture.
To their shock and utter surprise, they found so many enjoyable elements that spruced up their otherwise familiar and routine lifestyle. Narcissa and Lucius traveled to different parts of the world, sampling decadent cuisine and enjoying the finest hotels. They went to theatres, concerts, and museums that were in abundance.
In the following three months, the Malfoys broke out of their insularity and explored all that life had to offer.
