Full Summary
"Ladies, if a dude spreads a rumor that you slept together, don't deny it. Use that shit. Tell everyone how bad he was. Make up some damn fetishes; say that he called out his mom's name. Destroy him."
That's what Bella does when the office Christmas party turns from rowdy to unfortunate.
The rumor mill at the law firm churns while the sassy marketing manager goes to the mattresses. But a guardian angel lurks in the shadows in one of the partners' offices.
LawyerWard, OlderWard.
Story won by Sharon Fulda at Ashley's Auction.
Alice's White Rabbit and Midnight Cougar wield the red pens. Deh and Yummy pre-read. Emma is the shoulder I cry on and my purveyor of Robp0rn. Pearly Fox made a gorgeous banner for this story - check it out on FB in my group (LaMomo's Lair - just type it in the search bar).
This will be a little different. It's a shorter fic, with shorter chapters in alternating POVs. The story is entirely pre-written, and I'd like to keep updates to twice a week. I'll be traveling and out of state for a week starting tomorrow, so next update will be whenever I can.
Let's meet LawyerWard, shall we?
Chapter 1
Every morning, I watched the same scene with rapt attention.
Every morning, I made sure I was the first to arrive in the office. After all, it wasn't hard to beat my fellow partners on timing. Most of them relished their positions, especially when it came to its intangible perks, such as not having set office hours. They came and went as they pleased. Me, not so much. I worked almost non-stop.
Every morning, I stood at my window, and when the eight o'clock bus rounded the corner, I held my breath.
Every morning, after the bus pulled away from the curb, I breathed free air again. Because there she was—looking each way as she stepped on the crosswalk, tote bag on one shoulder and travel coffee mug in her hand.
Every morning, I followed her progress from the bus stop, across the street, and into our building. When she disappeared into the lobby, which I could spy diagonally from my window, I stepped back to my chair and sat. And watched, again.
Every morning, I watched for that light on my phone to glow red. She was finally in her own office two floors below, and as every other morning, she was already on the phone, working away.
Every morning, I watched out for her because it was all I could do.
I had a glitzy office, two Ivy League degrees, a successful, award-winning corporate law practice, a brass plate with my name on it on this building, and yet … it all meant nothing.
It meant nothing because I couldn't have her.
And yet I wanted her. I craved her. And pined away for her.
But rules were rules, even when they screwed me over.
So I watched over her from afar.
Every morning.
I know, I know ... it's short.
What the heck is Momo doing now, drabbles? Not exactly. It's a ficlette. It's a thing. ;-)
See you soon, people. We meet Bella in the next one.
