A/N : Hey ! First story here, so don't be too harsh, the chapter will get better, I promise.

And just for you infomartion. The characters are older then in the show, but the story is the same until Ember Island.

Katara sighed. There was a play about them and naturally, her brother wanted to go watch it. He had convinced Aang, simply by asking and saying please. He had convinced Toph, saying it would be bad and that she would have ammunition for bad jokes for a lifetime. He had convinced Suki with a kiss and a look towards the door of their bedchamber. Katara preferred not to think what that might mean. Zuko had groaned but had said yes because the theater reminded him of better times.

That had left her. Of course, he had waited to ask her last, so that she could not say no. It was a tactic he had used with their parents, asking their father before their mother, so he could say that Dad already said yes.

"Come on Katara, everyone is going, don't be the partypooper!" he had said, and across the room, Aang had looked at her with his best puppy eyes, so she had said yes under the pressure.

Now, they just finished diner, and everyone would go prepare themselves for the play. Katara was already in her Fire Nation clothes since the afternoon, for she had made a trip to the market. Aang had accompanied, so he didn't need to change either.

"Do you want to do a little waterbending while we wait?" She asked the airbender, who immediately took off towards the ocean just beneath the villa of the Fire Lord. She chuckled when he came back, seaming to have realized she did not have the high speed of an airbender.

At the ocean, they began to do their routine, and after a minute of silence he began to talk.

"You know, I never would have thought that the Fire Nation would make a play about us. It will probably be a lot of propaganda…"

She sighted "Yes I think so, but at least we will know what they think about you, for you know… after the war. We already know that they have changed history to fit to their views, with all that about the 'Air Nation Army' nonsense."

She saw the rapid flash of pain in his eyes before he said "Well, I don't really care what they think of me, as long as they don't ridicule you or the others."

She felt his eyes on her when he said this, and not for the first time, she suspected him of looking at the exposed parts of her body. This kind of dress showed way more than she was used to show, and she had seen that men would look at her often with a kind of hunger.

But each time she caught Aang looking at her, she did not see lust in his eyes, but rather a friendly admiration. This time it was the same. The kind grey eyes that looked at her like she was worth everything in the world. Or at least, she hoped that the look was meant as such.

"Well, Sokka and I will surely be called savages, Toph and Suki will be 'Dirt people' and Zuko will be the traitor to his nation. Nothing that can be done about that, for now at least." She said.

"These insults are still new to me you know? When I was younger, the watertribes were respected for their knowledge about healing and such. The Earth Kingdom was almost feared for their stubbornness but we all admired their resolve to fight for their believes. And the Fire Nation was beloved for the way they made technological advances and tried to share them. Of course, now, they share this technology through warfare. But before, it was shared freely and willingly…" Aang said with such a tone of nostalgia that she almost cried for him.

"And the Air Nomads? Did the other nations respect you for your peaceful ways?" She asked kindly, not having missed that he had not talked about his own people.

There it was again. That look. The look of pure admiration. The look he only used with her she tought.

"Oh Katara… The Air Nomads were loved throughout the nations. We always had a place to sleep in the villages where we stopped on our travels. In whatever nation, even here in the Fire Nation. Nobody turned an Air nomad away. We always paid for the place to sleep with labor, doing some kind of service to the people who welcomed us. I remember a time, I was around seven years old, Gyatso and I stayed with these merchants. We had a place to sleep, a place at their table, and Gyatso helped the merchant with some task, I can't remember. But their son, he and I became friends, we even looked for dragons during our stay with his family" He told her this, and she saw the way he was smiling, thinking of these happy times with his guardian and his friends.

"Dragons Aang? Seriously? You would be the only one crazy enough to go willingly look for dragons" She laughed

"Excuse me, it was Kuzon who wanted to do so, and Gyatso was too preoccupied to talk me out of it!" He defended himself, laughing. But Katara had pieced it together. The fake name he used in that school. He had said he had a friend who was named Kuzon, but he hadn't gone further into detail about him. This personal story, his memories. These he told only when they were waterbending.

"Only when he is waterbending with me" a voice in her head said.

"And did you find them?" She asked

"Yeah, and there were poachers who tried to steal her egg ! Kuzon and I lured them always, and the dragon was very nice after that, she even licked us !" He told her with a goofy smile.

Before she could answer to that piece of information, they heard Sokka yell from the house that they were going.

On their way to the town, Suki came to walk next to Katara. She smiled at the young waterbender and asked "So, how was waterbending?"

"Good, even though Aang was more wiling to talk about dragons and such" Katara laughed.

"So, that's why Aang seems in such a good mood! Toph had another theory however, but that was not for everyone's ears" Suki said, shaking her head toward the earthbender who was grinning next to her.

"Well, sorry for thinking dirty things about the two of them when Aang comes back with a heart beating like a maniac." Toph said casually

"Well Toph, we talked about some nice things, and you know Aang, he is always excited about those kind of things." Katara sputtered, hating the fact that Toph would think so lowly of Aang.

"Yeah, he surely was excited Sugar Queen, that was as clear as day to me, but not about some dragons. He saw them several weeks ago. This reaction was more, well, of a physical nature." Toph laughed.

"Yeah sure Toph, he was just tired from the exercice. You and Zuko have been training him non stop the last weeks. Of course there would be a 'physical" reaction to training." She said, trying to steer the conversation to safer waters.

"No no honey. Aang is always tired after a day of training with Zuko or me, that is true. But he only has this kind of reaction when you train with him, half naked" Toph cackled, feeling the blood rush to Katara's face trough her earthbending. She then made her way towards Zuko, who was leading the group to the theater.

"Don't listen to her Katara, she is just trying to make fun of you." Suki said gently, but she saw a little confusion on Katara's face. She continued "Don't let Toph go to your head, Aang seemed fine when you two came back"

Katara felt confused. On the one hand, she knew that Aang was a monk, a gentle soul and her best friend, who she may have feelings for that she couldn't describe exactly. On the other hand, she also knew he has a teenage boy, and if Sokka was to be believed, they were all pigs when it came to girls.

"But what if she's right Suki? Aang is my best friend, and I couldn't stand it if he thought only about me in a physical way." Katara said, with a little fear in her voice.

"Katara, he doesn't, he is the most respectful guy I ever met. And even if he did, he would never show you that side, only if you wanted him to!" The last part was said laughing.

Katara felt a little better, but still had that nagging feeling. Just then they arrived at the theater, and she saw Aang smile and wink at her, pointing to a poster of him. She smiled back, even if she felt a little shaken by what Toph had said. Suki was right, he would always respect her.
